The opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) and the Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) have paid glowing tribute to late President, Michael Sata, for his contribution to the growth of the country.

UPND Deputy Spokesperson, Edwin Lifwekelo, said the death of President Sata is a big loss to the nation as he had great vision on how to develop the country.

Mr Lifwekelo, who worked with President Sata during the time he served as Patriotic Front Secretary General, said the late President had a great passion for the poor as well as infrastructural development as it can be seen from the boom in construction activities from the time he assumed the Presidency.

He told ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka today that Zambians need to emulate the leadership style of the late former Head of State which he described as practical.

He said Mr Sata was generally a simple but practical person who wanted things to be done as he was aggressive in terms of energy, adding that this is the type of leadership which Zambians must seek.

Mr Lifwekelo further stated that he will remember President Sata for his honesty, courage and determination to make things happen even in the face of adversity.

He hoped Mr Sata’s demise will not leave room for any anarchy in the country or disintegration of the PF itself.

Mr Lifwekelo has since called on all political players and civil society to come together and emulate his leadership in order to harmonise what he stood for.

He further expressed optimism that there will be continuity by whoever will take over from the late former Head of State.
Mr Lifwekelo also called on the people of Zambia regardless of their political affiliation to remain united and foster unity of purpose as the country mourns late President Sata.

And MMD Lusaka Province Chairperson, Watson Mtonga, praised President Sata for the selfless service he provided to the country not only as President but through the various portfolios he held during his time in the public service.

He said President Sata’s contribution to the development of the country cannot be overlooked as he served the nation with honour and dignity.

Mr Mtonga said the late President’s contribution to the enhancement of democratic tenets in the country will remain printed in the annals of Zambia’s history.

He said Mr Sata identified himself with the poor, noting that, this was why he was very eager to work on projects such as the construction of roads, schools and hospitals which would help rise people’s welfare.

President Sata, who died in London at King Edward VII Hospital on October 28, 2014, will be put to rest on November 11, 2014 at Embassy Park in Lusaka.

  1. Ummmm… boza! the truth always comes out by itself. We shall see what your true thoughts are in 90 days.

    • In order for Zambia to leap in growth, we need to get rid of the culture of lies. The saying “Truth shall set you free” has a well founded place. We want to praise a man attributing him with successes which we have been accusing him of having failed? Why? Say it has it is and speak the truth or keep your mouth shut.
Sata was the worst leader Zambia has ever had and he has gone some way to undo any successes that KK did in uniting Zambians together with the $3.4b reserves that the MMD left.

    • This is the time when orphans get confused, when all of sudden their father`s bitter rivals issue sweet and supportive statements about their late father,,,
shuwa today ati `Mr Lifwekelo further stated that he will remember President Sata for his honesty, courage and determination to make things happen even in the face of adversity`.`…
Ati Sata`s honesty,,,,,,,,,are you out of your mind??? Sata was NOT an honest man

    • Unbelievable! I am not sure it makes people look good or better when they praise the dead, but please stop pretending. You will do us, sorry, you will do me a lot of good.

    • @Ndobo, I don’t recall all promises from Sata, so I can’t say if he was honest or not. But what I know is that Lifwekelo is a LIAR. How many times did he insult and “honest” man Sata?
Me I will remember Sata as a LISTENING man, he heard our advise that the worse SIN he can die with is leaving Kabimba in leadership. And for sure he chased the devil… got at peace with Zambians… and DIED peacefully.

  2. There is nothing wrong with having honest views about somebody who has died. Mr. Sata was blatantly against enacting a new constitution and made a lot of riff-raff appointments based on tribe and friendship. One can feel sorry for him and his family, but inwards anyone can revel at the new opportunity created for a new constitution and make amends. MHSRIP.

    • How is Cosmo Mumba doing after fainting… I hope he stays in Comma so he can experience death. Nobody should die in next 90 days, we will be too busy.

National Prayer Mobilization Schedule – Zambia Mourns
      1Thessalonians 5:17 – “Pray without ceasing”
      Members update 1st November 2014
To all the member churches of the Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia and dear friends.I urge you to join the rest of the country in mobilizing on-going prayers for our country following the passing of our President. We must act together to prevent calamity or any acts of evil from disturbing the peace of our great nation. Some of our people may be experiencing fear, anxiety and uncertainty about many things but we can provide hope to the country through our prayers because God is in control.

    • I am sharing the list of prayers for the nation following the demise of our Republican President His Excellency Mr. Michael Chilufya Sata on 28th October 2014 in London, UK this past week. This has been followed by a period of national mourning leading to putting the remains of the President to rest, then the campaign period for the Presidential by-election within the 90 days as required by the constitution. There are a number of very critical issues that require the intervention of God in our country. It is for this reason that I share the need for intensive prayers for our country. God is the only answer to our greatest need at the moment in the life of our country.

    • Let us pray for our country in the following areas:
      i. Pray for the Acting President – His Excellency Dr. Guy Scott as he leads the country during this transition leading to the presidential by-election. Pray also for the cabinet for God’s wisdom as they lead the country (2 Tim.2:1-4)
ii. Pray for the First lady and the entire first family for the Lord’s comfort, strength and encouragement during this difficult time which they are passing through. (Ps.23:4)

    • iii. Pray for unity and peace to prevail during the mourning period to ensure that the burial program goes on well and not disrupted but that the atmosphere is conducive for providing a dignified and respectful send-off befitting the Head of State. Pray against tribalistic talk and tendencies or regionalism that may divide the nation. We must all promote “One Zambia and One Nation” thereby enjoying our co-existence. (Ps. 133:1-3)

    • iv. Pray that we shall remain a God honouring nation and that in these difficult times, the nation will remain united and that those that may incline to causing chaos or violence will fail because “good will always conquer evil”. Let us always honour God in all that happens in our country . (Ps.33:12)

    • v. Pray for peace and stability in the country as we head towards the by-election. In the past, cadres have carried mock coffins depicting their hatred of another person or party or they have brandished machetes to cause chaos. Pray that such backward campaigns will not be tolerated but that there will be civility and maturity in the campaigns to guarantee free, peaceful and fair by-election. (1Timothy 2:1-3)

    • vi. Pray that the political parties that will be participating in the presidential by-elections will guide their cadres to respect the laws of the land and adhere to the electoral code of conduct. Pray for peaceful election campaigns and that all the groups will respect other participants or contenders in the presidential race. Pray that the campaigns will not degenerate into personal attacks but rather that those contesting in the race will discuss their vision for this country and dwell on the critical issues affecting this country in both short term and long term and to leave the decision with the electorate .

    • vii. Pray against anarchy and lawlessness during the campaigns and that the Police and other law enforcement agents will help to effectively provide and maintain peace throughout the republic. Pray that leaders of political parties will guide their cadres and supporters to respect the laws of the land and restrain them from violence whenever they appear to go astray. Politicians should show leadership in this process and come out in the open to condemn and stop violence when it occurs.

    • viii. Pray that there will be law and order in the country and that there will be no disturbance of peace and tranquillity. The campaigns and the day of the elections should be conducive for holding a peaceful election that will guarantee its credibility with indisputable outcome that will be accepted and respected by the majority of the Zambian people.

    • ix. Pray that the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) will carry out its functions effectively and win the respect of the stakeholders (general public and the electorate) by presiding over credible elections. Pray that ECZ will ensure that everyone adheres to the electoral code of conduct and that they (ECZ) are effective in applying the electoral regulations.

    • x. Pray that the Lord will guide the country in electing a suitable person to lead the country between now and the next elections in 2016. Allow the leading of the Holy Spirit so that the choice of a candidate is reflected from our prayers offered to God. Watch and pray. When Moses died, God had appointed Joshua to take over and lead the people of Israel (Joshua 1:16)

    • xi. Pray for a peaceful transition between this time of loss to the next era of our country when we get a new president to succeed Mr. Michael Sata. When Joshua took over the leadership after Moses, the people pledged loyalty and support to his leadership (Joshua 1:17)

    • xii. Pray that the mourning period does not get affected by premature campaigns that would disrupt the grief that people have in mourning our president. (Job 5:11)

xiii. Pray that the Zambian people will understand the painful reality of death that – there is a time for everything under the Sun.
      (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8)

    • xiv. Pray that the media will play an effective role of informing the nation with balanced and fair reporting that will help to strengthen the ideals of our country without heightening hate speech or promoting evil at the expense of good.
xv. Pray that the church will play its role effectively in helping and guiding the nation through this difficult time. It is our God given duty to pursue what is right and help others to walk in it (Matthew 5:14)

  3. HH put together with illusionist nevers will and can never beat PF. 2014 HH will lose.come 2016 HH will lose nafuti nafuti

    • You liar, are you a prophet to know that HH will never be president? Pf is so used to lying. Now tell the truth, is Sata sick or not?

    • @Amake NoNo-PF is no longer what it was before.Don’t live in the past.Zambia has moved forward. No more mediocrity in governing. The Governance we were subjected to by the PF Leadership,is pathetic. We were back to UNIP days. You had to look over your shoulder when speaking.Freedoms were curtailed. No more mbokoshi yalufu PF.

  4. Public order act, the constitution, the barotse agreement, making decisions by decree, appointment of bembas to the cabinet, appointment of relatives in strategic positions, blantatnt practice of nepotism and tribalism, creation of unnecessary by-elections, perpetuation of violence during by-elections, rigging during by-elections, prevention of opposition from assembling freely, use of the police force to intimidate opponents, unnecessary jailing of opposition during by-elections, removal of subsidies, firing of health personnel, increasing own salary twice in a year, persecuting of the chitimukulu, failur to honour barotse agreement, u-turn on the constitution etc

    • …and harassment of university students, firing of nurses, diverting development from North Western\Western to Muchinga. Hijacking of the roads, airports, stadiums construction . Increase in debt and biggest youth unemployment.

  5. I wish someone would be honesty & tell the nation that PF has been a lying government since they assumed power. They lied to the Zambians that Sata was fit & he was discharging his duties until he died & if they would argue with death they would still say he was not died. How does Zambia continue trusting such characters? Opposition was called all sorts of names for wanting pf to tell the nation the truth about the president’s health. Honestly as a Zambian its difficulty to accept that the president is no more bcoz we were not informed of his sickness. He only went for medical check up according to pf liars!

  6. Sata suprises me. The man suprises me. He was good at making commitments especially when he was still in opposition but did the opposite when it came to implementationm. Today it is evident for anyone who wants to be objective, that Sata has heighjtened nepotism, tribalism and regionalism. He has damaged rule of law and the entire civil service by useless cadreism. We have a civil service that need serious cleaning. The man was really an illiterate and indeed a destroyer. Just look at the level of insecurity we have now. Shame . So as we sing praises co’s we want to be political correct let us be factual. Just watch some clips and you will agree the guy was a cheat.

  7. I heard an argument today that Edgsr Lungu should contine acting coz Sata in his wisdom chose him. Sata had no power to choose for us who leads us. The wisdom did not include him choosing for us who was to be President. Your argument that since Sata chose Lungu then we should all vote for Lungu defeats democracy, of course that’s assuming you know what democracy means. Sata appointed Lungu to act in his absence so that he could go to the hospital, he did not appoint Lungu to act in his death. These two are clearly distinct. Therefore with closed eyes in line with the constitution , a right descision was made for Guy Scott to be in charge for 90days. I have tried to make it simple for all to understand how the constitution works. Clear now?

  8. People, why do you pretend?
Sata was a shameless lying triblist nepotistic egoistic dictator. Fortunately, he was dead from day one. Remember how he used to humiliate public servants. Good, he now dead with his hair. Those with pala and pot bellies are still living!

He refused to give us the Constitution, despite being elected on this platform. Same applies for removal of subsidies, refusing to recognise Chitimukulu, wage freeze, over borrowing. God has allowed this man to leave the stage so that the nation can make genuine progress and become united. Sata was a horrible nightmare. I wish him perfect red hot hell for eternity.

  9. I don’t believe this! First he was a brute, a lier, a dictator but lelo mwachinja? He served the nation with integrity. ..hmmm. you even said he failed to govern. Please stop lying, Zambians are not daft.

  10. Sata was the worst leader Zambia ever had becoz-he failed to address the nation through press conference,he u-turned on constitution by saying there is no constitution crisis, had he been in good health,HH and Nevers would be asasinated,he brought tribalism, made cities more dirt, let alone mealie and fuel prices, the man who could even call a radio station just for featuring Nevers, personally I will never miss this longest serving Thug in politics.

  11. sata the worst president? Have you bothered to ask ourselves why most pipo dont suport UPND? we have hatret for Bembas when they have not done any wrong. which part of southern province has not seen sata’s desire to develope this country?Bandas and muteles have joined UPND which Tonga has joined other parties? All tribes are talking about Edgar lungu except Tongas what is wrong with us?

    • Having lived with both the Tongas and Bembas, I know that most Bembas are the worst tribalists. Look even at the voting patterns. When Bembas speak to you they address you in Bemba and when you say that I don’t know Bemba they take it as an insult. If people are honest they will agree that the other tribes speak at least two Zambian languages in order to communicate. Lozis learn Bemba, Tongas learn Bemba if they are among the Bembas not Bembas. I was shocked to note that majority of Bembas have refused to even learn basic Nyanja when they have invaded Lusaka. To many of them tribalism is when a Phiri promotes a Banda and not when a Bwalya promoting a Mulenga. Sata only promoted other tribes who were yes bwana or who could propel his agenda. If only people can open their eyes.

  12. Even if HH stood alone without a contender, he wouldnt win to become a zambian president. Hh gets votes from one tribe which makes 14% of zambian population. 2015 he will lose. Come 2016 he will lose again

  13. Truth be told,Sata had nothing to offer Zed in terms of strategic thinking, transformative vision, focussed leadership or inspiring Zambians to greater heights.

His presidency was more about personal attainment of the highest office in the land even when you bring nothing to the table. Its not a trait just peculiar to Sata its just that 98% of African presidents are like that.

  14. why shud you be worried when you have HH? leave lungu to luapula,Eastern, northern, copperbelt and parts of central and lusaka. you can be with HH with your southern and parts of western, northwestern and lusaka.

  15. Now these empty tins in government have the aduscity to ask us to contribute to Sata’s funeral. ..what cheek they have…when they were flying him at the taxpayer’s expense all over the globe; they lied to us about his health.
    Zambians wake up! !

    • @jay jay, if u have better brains then come back home to develop the country and stop your job of cleaning toilets where you are. you are not developing there, they are just using you to clean their **!! Wake up!!

  16. this Sata issue has nothing to do with hh or bembaz as other tribalists think,Iam from Eastern but still say this man didnt deserve to be president,no wonder upon election he started troting from one continent to another to seek chemotherapy.he never enjoyed his presidency.where is judge Chikopa?Zambia is now saved becoz of Sata’s death.

  17. Sata has no legacy, maybe he made an impact but not a legacy, his personal achievement has nothing to do with Zambia’s progress. It is really not surprising that the prevailing narrative is all about how he created PF and won election but very little on what his government has done for Zambia. You just need to monitor the international media and observe that they are covering a south african goal keeper shot dead more than the demise of a President.

    • I don’t mind people saying good things about him lets just keep it honest. Each one of us has faults but we have done some good and upon our death we would like our good to be highlighted. Death is a reminder that our chances to make good are constantly. Reducing. It’s less about denouncing the dead

  18. Hypocrisy is best served hot! Un-effing-believable. A short while back there was nothing glowing about these two chaps’ comments…

  19. We are soon to see PF burning, If anyone has time to read Mmembe’s editorial today will know where PF is heading to. Very interesting reading indeed. Ignore the “A” team at your peril. The have the government machinery and Scott is acting president of the party with unlimited powers. I can see Edgar Lungu replaced by someone else. Lets wait and see. Sata was not a visionary but a narcist, selfish, egoistic, nepostic, tribalist etc.

  20. Ba HH we told you stick to the pact with PF ba ntamba Lukuta is in bad health you can become president in 2 years kuzimvera kwanu kwa under 5 munachito tabila mu baby cot yanu. Mwaba lomba Lungu azankala President. Imwe nipa sideline for the next 4 terms.chaipa

  21. LUNGU is soon becoming a president. I fill sorry for those who thought their chance will come when sata dies, cause they will never make it.

    • This Lungu chap is he like Prince Charles whom it is written in black and white that if Queen Elizabeth dropped dead he automatically inherits the throne? I have read the Zambian Constitution and I have not seen where it is written that if Sata dies then the Minister of Defence automatically takes over. Am I missing something? I thought people had to vote and the results of a vote is not predicatable. Sata was always very sure that he had won the other elections before the 2011 even when his supporters went to vote in droves. You may be shocked that a Mazumba/Kayenga/Musielela etc wins it.

  22. Please aba Zambians absolutely no sympathy vote for PF during coming presidential election. They have done enough damage and shouldn’t be rewarded just bcoz Sata passed on.

  23. All other parties other than PF will be wasting their time and money by taking part in presidential by elections!Luapula, northern, muchinga,cb,lusaka, eastern and central provinces will vote in large numbers for Sata via Edgar Lungu!so how can your HH become a president by winning only in southern plus few votes in western and n/western?its imposible!

  24. I am saddened by the low level of articulation, of issues on this fora. Why can’t we debate real issues affecting Zambia than talk trash day in day out.

    • And yet you won’t see and raise the same disapproval or question the very low level of articulation and governance by PF the last 3yrs?

Your post reeks of double standards and hypocrisy since these bloggers are mere individuals yet you say nothing of Zambian policy makers who have done far more damage.Direct your ire at public policy makers.

  25. People who claim to be more Zambian and intelligent than late President Sata, who you have called names. Where are you to lead us? We are a nation without a leader. Those of you idiots by nature like ndobo and your hh it’s your time to prove yourselves to the nation that you can take up the mantle. We have heard some people say, before 2016 there will be a presidential bye election. Oh! That is really happening. The question is simple. Are you ready ? The answer is PF will carry the day, why? There is no serious opposition in Zambian politics. Take it or leave it. PF of 3 years in power have done more than mmd 20 yrs. Why Less thieves in than mmd and people are appreciating what pf has done. Anybody standing on pf ticket will get it. Forget hh not now. Sata has done enough.

  26. To tell the nation that Sata & PF have done nothing in 3 years is like forcing people to see the world through your opinions. Sorry, the view is much wider. And people see. The biggest thing I have learnt from Sata’s death is that nothing is as simple as it is assume: KaHH thought (just as at Mazoka) that with Sata out it will be him. Wanya mapuli yobe, there shall be no ‘ONLY A TONGA” lunacy. Yours is an insurmountable race. 86 days & counting.

  27. Politicians are hypocrites, today simply because sata is dead you want say the good he has done, ba upnd sata to you failed before the inarguration…who are you trying to please? with sata dead you thought you are going to win to say the truth state house is nowhere near you…..

  28. If PF wins , three things will be proved right; 1. That Zambia is truly a nation of fools, for allowing a group of liers to carry on exploiting it because it ( PF) assumes that Zambians are genetically foolish.2. That Zambia’s education system does not imbue into learners analytical skills, that is, there are educated people who reason like lunatics. Moreover, this will be a solid reason as to why UNZA is ranked number 44 in Africa.3. That poor and uneducated people do not deserve franchise, because they are vulnerable to bribes. Thanks .

  29. Sata was a great leader and within 3yrs we hav seen a lot of development in our country of wch some past leaders hav failed….Zambian please let us be greatful and mind what we say

  30. i really dont find any sense anywhere to continue with pf after god answered the people,s prayers sata and his pf party his cabinet vp muzungu o pusa were and are still all the same liars pipo are suffering in the villages cos they got cheated farmerswill be paid within two week of maize delivering from july to date no payment students are committing suesade cos they cant continue their education workers have just post poned their strike over wage frees the list can go on and on this is the government we put in power in 2011 and you want us to continue even after god has said start afresh please no no no

  31. Sata had great vision for divisive tribalism, God has saved zambia, he has joined his ancestors, now liars, thieves will never rule zambia. The words from his mouth against the opposition were inspiring hatred only. The manner he attacked Mazoka, Levy, Kunda, HH was diabolically devoid of visionary leadership. This is the last time, zambia will never vote for such arnachist.

  32. let us learn from UPND and HH for showing peace, unity and love. please urge my fellow Zambians to mourn in fear of our lord and our savior Jesus Christ.
    MHSRIP

  33. I feel so sad to see the kind of debate on this site. And more so from people that call themselves educated! That is why education is not synonymous with wisdom. The debate degenerate into personal attacks. I wonder when our politics will change. The politicians will only do what their followers (or cadres, as commonly referred to here) wish or like to hear. If you all insult each other and get personal, the politician will follow suit, knowing that is what his followers want/like to hear. Let us learn to agree to disagree with each other. Let us grow in diversity. Insulting and getting personal will only end at that. Please let the voice of reason and unity prevail.
