Parliament has head that government plans to recruite 1500 new police officers to meet the shortfall of police officers in the country.

Home Affairs Minister, Kalombo Mwansa told Parliament yesterday that the recruitment will start in April this year.

Dr. Mwansa said the government wants to recruit more Police Officers in the country because there was a shortage of manpower in the Police Service.

  1. Please also train them not to should each other!! Also tell them not to throw punches when they are arrested!! :d

  2. Good plan for Zed, but police should be taught good manners especially when dealing with civilians.
Use of weapons on each other and in public places
Hope with good salaries for them too
    :((

  3. Ba Buju are the most underpaid workers in Zambia, yet they deal with very tempting issues everyday. Their living conditions in these Police camps is also deplorable.
No wonder corruption no ubupupu tawakapwe, especially pa ma road blocks.. :o:o

  4. this is good for the most of our school leavers. i hope the govt is considering building them houses as well, it is not good to have these fellas staying in civilian townships. so what is the take on building houses or new police camps?

  5. The current number of police officers is ok. They lack support from their employers. Their working culture would change once the following are done:
    1.0 Decent accommodation.
    2.0 Decent uniforms.
    3.0 Optimum pay.
    4.0 Enough transport.
5.0 Decent police stations with computers where they can be linked online with others.
6.0 Organise refresher public relation workshops.
They lack motivation that is why those manning road blocks are fond on begging.

  6. i hope as more will be recruited salaries will also be increased for our police officers.otherwise, they will not be effective in their work coz they will still remain corupt as they are paid very little to sustain their living.

  7. Don’t just recruit them but make sure you pay them well too. Otherwise you will be recruiting vulnerable accomplices for criminals.

  8. THATS GOOD TO HEAR BUT REMEMBER TO MOTIVATE THEM WITH POINTS ON #17 BECAUSE WITHOUT DOING SO ITS AS GOOD AS NOT RECRUITING THEM.PEOPLE WORK BEST WHEN THEY ARE MOTIVATED AND APPRECIATED

  9. this is a good idea, but does it mean crime will be reduced.

I dont think it is enougth, we need more to reduce crime.

  10. Dont waste all this manpower to line up from Presidents avenue to Internationl Airport ! We need them ku chibloya na kwa chipulukusu. There are better targets than fellow cops out there !

  11. Hello Baby C, there you are! I was beginning to suspect you had changed into Ba Honey.
Nice to see you again. I missed you to! You’re something like a little sunshine on LT! 😡

  12. PF mwaponoka!!.Please if you are PF protest otherwise come 2011 when RB wins re-election,no crying foul as they will keep vigil ready to lynch. Please PF protest!

  13. Recruit more army officers we have a few. Minister of defnce and government do soemthing we dont want shortages anymore.

  14. The police force is one neglected area in Zed. In my opinion, the force has overemployed. I don’t see how employing more cops would help but perhaps for the 2011 tripartite elections. Listen Zambian leaders! Improve the conditions in the force, motivate the cops, provide necessary tools for their operations and improve standards of training (get grade twelve as minimum level). Remember you cannot change the attitudes of cops in Zed today by changing from ‘force’ to ‘service’.

  15. ARITHMETIC:
    1,500 new police officers.
    500 new houses.
Where will the other 1000 officers live? Ah they will occupy the houses left by those who have died, resigned, retired or been fired. So 1000 officers off the system will be replaced by the new recruits.
Total increase in strength is 500.
Correct statement therefore is ‘Govt will increase the police officers numbers by 500 this year.’
    QUESTION:
What is the total strength of police in Zambia?
How many policemen per head of population do we need?
Mrs Esther Banda MP, thanks for your question but ask in this format next time.

  16. Recruitment should not be based on quantity, but the quality of officers underpinned by quality training to enforce the law and safeguard Zambians lives…!! :-w

  17. “Mr. Hichilema wondered why government has allocated K50 billion to the National Constitution Conference (NCC) when it was supposed to be winding up its work.
He said that his party’s position was that the NCC should not be discontinued but wind up its work by June so that Zambia can have a new constitution before the next general elections.
He said that giving the NCC K50 billion is encouraged the members to drag the process until 2010.
He expressed shock at the paltry K5billion given to the Electoral Commission of Zambia for continuous voter registration.
He said that with that little money, the aim is to disenfranchise Zambian especially young people in 2011.”

  18. “Mr. Hichilema also asserted that the main reason the local currency is losing value to other currencies is lack of confidence in national leadership. He said that is why the Kwacha started losing value significantly after the presidential bye-election.

And Mr. Hichilema has bemoned the poor reading culture in Zambia. He said at the same meeting that Zambians don’t read that is why they like following ignorant leaders.

“That is why you follow people who don’t say anything, you should be reading”, advised Mr. Hichilema.

And in apparent reference to PF leader Michael Sata, Mr. Hichilema said that some opposition leaders have not said anything on the budget because they have nothing to say.”

  19. Source to #35 and 36 is ww w.zambianwatchdog. com/ ?p=1071

LT this is the TYPE OF NEWS Zambian across the whole Earth need to know.

Why are you not posting it?

The behaviour of Imagebuilding for the Undereducate and seeking to ridicle the President only, instead of providing useful news to the Zambian community is not good.

  20. I wish they will change and improve the training programme. They should spend more time at lilayi doing a bit of law, physical traning and farming so that they are fit for general duties. Its like the new police graduates are trained in road block making and begging, we are disturbed when they find us in drinking places because of their begging habits, ubwalwa and mineral water.
and GRZ pay them well, they may just concentrate on police duties.

  21. I tell growing up in a police camp is hell no wonder the cops are brutal. Have been to Lilayi Para camp junior section. No wonder the guys behave they way they do given a chance they find themselves on the other side of the law which they are supposed to enforce. At one point my brother then serving as cop discouraged me from joing ZP no matter what. I thought the guy was crazy man out there but now I realise he action was right. The guys from top to bottom, some have acquired wealth by dealing with criminals and the like. The emphasis training element should include human rights and good working conditions by employer GRZ to minimize kolapushoni.

  22. Hmm , interesting, but whose interested in becoming a police officer (educated) with the poor conditions sure? Police officers are corrupt and unfortunatly some retired police officers do not hand in thier guns when they leave just to hold on to something….after working for so long without benefits..these are the same guns that end up in the hands of thieves…
But anyways, its not Zambia yeka, officers here are also so corrupt. Every time iv had alcohol and driving, i just make sure i have a rand in my pocket and am sorted.

  23. 42. VOTE RIGGER, absolutely no, but I am referencing them for using their work!

Please, help donate to them for improved service if you can.

  24. maestro learn to rest,do you have anything else to do apart from blogging and SDA-ing imitate me son.

  25. 44. Miss Daisy
you are the same pipo who encourage the police to be corrupt.

    Dont drink and drive ok.

  26. I hope they are not used as objects to enforce corrupt practices by politicians as is the case in chingola at moment.
