Opposition Movement for Multiparty Director of Communications Raphael Nakacinda has called on people advocating for Rupiah Banda’s come back to remember that “there is posterity after today.”
Reacting to assertions by party Deputy National Secretary Chembe Nyangu that it is not automatic that party President Nevers Mumba is the candidate for the forth coming Presidential elections, Mr. Nakacinda said it was immoral for people to try and use a political argument in solving a (party) constitutional issue just for the sake of immediate personal gratification.
He said the question of Dr. Mumba’s candidature does not arise because there is a constitution in the party which gives him the mandate to represent the MMD as he was not appointed but elected to lead the party.
He observed that there would be confusion if the party had a president and every time there was an election then look for someone else to stand on its ticket.
“In matters of this nature, there is need to read consult and understand the provisions of the party constitution before they opens their mouth.
“Those who are advancing an agenda that there is choosing of a candidate are trying to use a political channel to try and solve a legal issue.
Like we have advised in the past he” continued, those championing RB’s comeback should be aware that there is posterity after to day, there is a future after today. Let’s not abrogate our own constitution conveniently for temporal gratification.”
He further explained that there is no provision in the party constitution that say that party elects some one to stand on its ticket when there is a president.
“There is no provision in the constitution that says when there is a siting president you go through another process to select a person to stand on the party.
“From 1990 Chiluba was elected, that why in MMD we don’t appoint presidents we elect them at a convention that is the provision of the constitution and it says there shell be an election of a president who shell also be the leader of the party,” Mr. Nakacinda explained.
He added: ” it doesn’t suggest in anyway that after the election of the party president then at some point you pick somebody else to become the candidate that is confusion even the writers of the constitution would have been deliberately causing confusion if that was the case.”
Mr. Nakacinda also wondered how a person would go through the ordeal of being elected at a convention, go round the country campaigning only for a few individuals to come and say will have to go through another process to determine who stands on the party ticket.
Mr. Nyangu is quoted in the media saying the party NEC will have to decide a candidate to represent the party in the coming elections.

This is now empirical evidence that Nakachinda is alien to the MMD and blank on the party constitution, history and partisan tempo he should have been familiarizing himself with by now. MMD has a precedence of nominating candidates for the party stamp in national elections. Revisit the case of Mwanawasa and then RB Presidency. In the case of RB, he was just an ordinary member of the MMD that successfully delivered EP to MMD yet NEC nominated him for the national election. In the same vein, today NEC the supreme organ of the party can constitutionally nominate anyone to serve the party interest in a bye-election if they believe a seating party President is a total disaster or political circus in evidence. Every party wants a leadership that can add political dividend to the party.
I advise Nakachinda to reach out to Mr. Enock Kavindele the then Vice President of MMD for a lecture on this issue. EK should have inherited President Chiluba at party level on his retirement. Interestingly you know who the candidate was that won MMD the election. My free advise therefore, is that NEC should immediately convene and decide what they want in the best party interest. They will sincerely audit the political dividend of Dr. Mumba’s leadership to the party and check his practical ability to mobilize and engage the national constituency for a serious bye-election. They have the constitutional right to nominate anyone or even call for a convention by this month-end with funds from the membership. All Dr. Mumba needs to do is put up a pitch to the NEC to win their confidence.
Any normal Zambian serious with good governance of the country can see clearly that MMD and PF are all not serious parties that can move Zambia forward but are just a bunch of thugs competing for position so they can steal more from the tax payer to enrich themselves.
Internal party squabbles are a very clear sign that MMD and PF are parties run by hooligans who do not mean well for Zambia.
UPND is the only party serious about running the country smoothly because HH has managed to hold the part together and has a grand plan for Zambia.
HH is not vying for plot 1 to enrich himself but to help redistribute national wealth to all the poor. He is serious about giving every Zambian a good chance to make it in life.
UPND and HH are the only hope and help Zambia needs right now.

@Senior Citizen-Rupiah came in because MMD had no Party President through the Convention.So NEC is mandated to solve that vacancy.In case of Kavindele,if you recall,Kavindele felt dribbled,by FTJ.As VP of the Party he qualified to take over as President.But FTJ,thought,it would be an anomaly to have a Party President who’s not a Presidential Candidate since he had already picked Levy.Go ask Kavindele,he cried foul.That’s why in the second term,Levy had to go through the convetion and not NEC.NEC comes in if there’s a vacancy of Party President at time of un foreseen Presidential By-Election,like this one.Then NEC,will decide.
The explanation makes a lot of sense. RB can only come back if Nervous Mumba resigns as President of MMD to pave way for the re-election of RB.

Sata was elected at Mulungushi hall. KK used to do the same, and no one opposed him. Chishimba Kambwili, GBM and Saulosi where deprived their basic rights of VOTING.

That’s the easiest way to handle the problem of Ala Bee. Nevers has been going round the country reorganizing the party after it was damaged by one Ala Bee and when we have hope then they want to give us a rejected product. Choosing another person to stand is like advertising chicken and when we want to buy you offer us Nyama Soya. Not that I am that bothered either way, but just what possible justification can anyone have for Rupiah Banda contesting the presidential bye elections ahead of Nevers Mumba who is the bona fide MMD President.This really is shamelessly taking the proverbial. Then again, the people of Zambia are too gullible,and things like this and what is happening in PF in the aftermath of Sata’s death,just do not mean that much in their reckoning.

Nakachinda and Nevers you are spoilers. How much have you been paid? There is about 16 months or so before the next election. Any normal person would say, let me wait for 2016. Nevers needs to build his credentials but if he continues on this self destructive path, he will get Zeppo. Nevers cannot win the elections in January. Nakachinda and Nevers are being stubborn for nothing. Where is the MMD imwe banthu? Why not put order in this whole thing. Nakachinda represents office of Nevers and his position is not recognized in the MMD power structure, so why are they allowing him so much leeway. Where’sMuhabi to guide the party kansi? Old Rupiah can not be trusted.He can still want to stand in 2016.He has a history of lack of integrity and honesty.Remember in 2008,he said,he’ll only complete the 3 remaining years for the late Levy’s term.But there he was standing in 2011 polls,and contributed to the loss.MMD Senior members were annoyed and the Parliamentary Candidates campaigned for themselves as MPs,and for Sata as President.Ask Mutati.Rupiah lost badly even in areas where we had MMD MPs.

HE Michael Sata was able and popular enough to create his own party of mass following, why cant some of these other politicians do likewise. Mulongoti, Magande have formed their own small parties; if you believe you have a following, form your own party rather than take shelter in dead carcass parties. Both Nevers and RB have been in the public eye long enough to form their own parties! Zambians dont reward chancers like Lubinda, Mutati, Namugala who jump from party to party but never dare to setup their own!

It appears politics through democracy is cheapened. Why should people who are expected to keep the fabric of unity in political parties be the same people fanning trouble? Surely should it be a trend that one labours and another comes to reap where he or she did not sow? Elderly people are bringing confusions, Young people are also bringing confusions. Then where are we heading to people? Zambia, let us be careful with people who want to come to politics with personal interests and not really to serve. Dear Senior citizen and all those who oppose the candidature of Nevers Mumba. I personally do not like the way RB abandoned the MMD. It is so abrupt! The party was at the verge of being deregistered. Where was RB and team. Where was Dora and Kanchingwe? Who revived the party? Please give Mumba space to prove himself.

Nevers, just start your campaigns. God knows who the next leader is and were he or she is. Sometimes even people who can give advice can be drunken with obsession of wanting something from someone. Nevers is the president of MMD, let the young stand for the elections and support him, it’s the right thing to do now, old people teach us how to manage ourselves not you old people all the time, we know you a lot of wisdom but just learn to transfer that knowledge to the young people, I really feel bad about RB causing confusion in MMD.
