North MMD backs Never Mumba

Share

The MMD in Northern Province has questioned why former president Rupiah Banda seems in a haste to go back to State House intimating in a comical fashion that he might have left something he intends to collect.

Provincial chairperson Stephen Mukuka accused Mr Banda of weakening party structures and asked: “What did he forget in State House that he is so keen on going back?”

He said Mr Banda’s actions of attempting to stand as presidential candidate following the death of President Michael Sata had polarized the MMD by creating divided loyalties among members.

Mr Mukuka while speaking to the Press in Kasama, pledged that the party structures in Northern and Muchinga provinces would rally behind Nevers Mumba who the provincial executive considered as its bona-fide candidate in the forthcoming presidential election slated for next year.

He said unlike Mr Banda, Dr Mumba had a unifying effect after he was elected as president of the MMD as opposed to the former head of state who he alleged had let the party crumble around its ears.

While Mr Banda has in his possession an adoption certificate from the MMD touting him as the party candidate in 2015 presidential election, Dr Mumba launched his campaign among his kinsmen in Chinsali at event that was broadcast on local community radio stations in surrounding areas.

Dr Mumba who has a strong clerical background has based his campaign on finsihs Mr sata’s projects while Mr Banda is promising a a new constitution and to act as transitional leader till 2016.

To underscore the divisions that have rocked the former ruling party, Mr Mumba has garnered support from within the ranks of the national executive council in national treasure, Mwansa Mbulakulima, National Youth Chairman, Howard Kunda, chairperson for culture chairperson, Elizabeth Chitika and national trustee Peter Machungwa.

Fighting in Mr Banda’s corners are the likes of MMD secretary general Muhabi Lungu and Michael Kaingu.

Other members have seemingly jumped ship and had chosen to endorse UPDN president Hakainde Hichilema.

Mr Mukuka maintained that all these happenings had occurred because of Mr Banda’s actions.

    • Laughable is Never’s manifesto that his Presidency is for finishing late President Sata’s Project in Muchinga and recognize the Chitimukulu only.

Zambians wake up and vote Never so he can go finish the project initiated by MCS in Muchinga.

    • President Mwanawasa was right. Zambian have very short memory.
These MMD people have forgotten that it was the MMD NEC that appointed Levy Mwanawasa as Presidential candidate when Chiluba was still President of MMD.
The MMD constitution does not say that its Presidential candidate shall be its President. Dr Nevers Mumba was not part of the founding of the MMD. He is just a passenger who was picked up in Kasama where he jumped on the MMD train. He walked from Chinsali. He does not understand how the MMD operates. As a so called ‘man of God’ he should not forment violence in the country. Unfortunately, it is such deluded men, who think they are God appointed who have been responsible for so much violence in history. Remember Alice Regina Bwalya?

  1. Another misfire in a wastage of time. Nevers’ MMD B President need a Doctrine of the party and certificate of nomination issued by the party Secretary General to present to the turning officer at nomination. Unfortunately, the party SG has already issued those documents to Rupiah.

Laughable is Never’s manifesto that his Presidency is based on finishing late President Sata’s Project in Muchinga and recognize the Chitimukulu only. But other than PF’s late Sata no one supported him on dethroning the Chitimukulu and every candidate has committed to correct Sata’s wrong. Laughable is a manifesto of finishing Sata’s agenda in Muchinga. So Zambians should vote Never to go finish the project in Muchinga.

    What a manifesto.

He is not motivated to be the first Tonga president,he is first Zambian and second ILA not Tonga.HH will unite Zambians in two ways
1.By first appointing at least a cabinet Minister from each of our ten provinces unlike Sata.

  4. Hakainde Hichilema is the youthful and energetic leader of the major opposition political party, the UPND.

Hichilema was born on 4 June 1962 to a poor family in a village in the district of Monze. Life started out tough, but Hichilema’s grit and determination in pursuing his studies paid off when he was awarded a scholarship to the University of Zambia where he studied and graduated in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Economics and Business Administration. He then went on to obtain an MBA degree in Finance and Business Strategy from the University of Birmingham in Britain.

Since then, Hichilema, affectionately known as ‘HH,’ has carved out an impressive track record in business, both locally and internationally.
