OPPOSITION Political parties have called for the depoliticising of the Zambia Security Intelligence Services, (ZSIS).

Contributing to estimates of expenditure for the ZSIS, Kalabo central UPND MP Chinga Miyutu said Government should not use money meant for ZSIS for campaigns.

Katuba MP Jonas Shakafuswa said ZSIS funds have been abused for too long and called for an oversight parliamentary committee that would audit the accounts of the institution.

Government should not use the Office of the President to symphony funds and attract opposition members.

There was need for professionalism among ZSIS officers as some of them were in some instances reducing themselves to political party cadres.

Monze UPND MP Jack Mwiimbu said the ZSIS officers should rise above board and uphold the rights of citizens.

He condemned the violence that reportedly took place in Lusaka yesterday when PF factions clashed in the central business district.

The ZSIS should always be ahead to advise Government on possible violent clashes within and among political parties so that the security of Zambians is guaranteed.

Some Zambian citizens had lost lives while others were in as a result of failure by ZSIS to alert Government.

There should be no parallel intelligence wing in Zambia as that was not healthy as it undermined and frustrated the existing structure.

ZSIS should assist the Zambia police fight the rising crime levels and ZSIS officers should strive to be non-partisan.

Lupososhi PF MP Chungu Bwalya urged ZSIS staff to remain objective especially on matters of national security.

Ikelengi MMD MP Elijah Muchima thanked ZSIS for assisting maintain peace in Zambia.

It was important to appoint professional officers to work in that institution to assist uphold professionalism and integrity.

Leader of Government business, Yamfwa Mukanga pledged to continue being in charge and ensuring peace and security in the country with the assistance of ZSIS.

“As PF, we are in control of the affairs of the country and we will continue to do so,” he said.

    • The Zambia Security Intelligence services are a joke! They are the very people leaking stories to the media.Infact they run ZWD and intimidate the ‘small journalists’ to appease politicians. Buy them a couple of beers and you will be suprised at how freely they leak classified information. This is not the ZSIS that we run in the 80s

    • Our intelligence system is one of the best in Africa. The officers are professional however sometimes politicians interfere with their work. I respect our men and women who risk their lives for the sake of national security. The concept of intelligence is evolving as the conditions are dynamic. Thank you for protecting our lovely nation.

  1. Hon. Mukanga, what about Government restoring the “peace and security” among its own members? Will you agree that your party is catalyst for insecurity and lack of peace in the Country?

  2. The 50 years of development in peace and stability must be put in the context of professional security organs. Peace is not just a wild fruit growing on wild trees. It is the result of cool minds applied to concrete situations. Give credit where it is due.

  3. Its normal in PF to ve parallel things like: General conference (Lungu vs Scott); Party President (Lungu vs Sampa); Presidential candidate (Lungu vs Sampa); Security at Ministry of Justice (Lungu’s thugs vs Libongani’s police officers); High and Supreme court Judges (Lungu’s corrupted judges vs the People of Zambia’s uncorrupted judges); Intelligence service (Lungu and chungu vs the People of Zambia) soon you will see a parallel State house, Defence Forces, PF presidents’ widows (Mrs Lungu vs Dr Christine Kaseba Sata). The problem is EDGAR LUNGU.

    • Edgar Lungu,Edgar Lungu,Edgar Lungu ,how many times have I called you,3 times just like peter was called after the death of Jesus Christ.peter said he did not know Jesus. We know what you are doing in the dark and we warn you to stop before you cry saying you did not what you were doing.Do not force as to declare a state of emergency and cramp on you and your plotters .Be mindfull of those who are ill advising you. This is the last warning.

    • @Dimakwenda

I just spluttered my breakfast of fruit bits and yoghurt right across the room!! Hilarious!

      Apt observation!

  4. I hope our MPs are being misquoted in the manner they are debating the matter of the Zambia Security Intelligence System. Clearly they are not convincing! They are casual about a very serious issue. There has been talk of a Parallel Intelligence System led by a fugitive called Xavier Chungu. Even when the nation knows the character of this person, this person can be tolerated to get nearer a nation’s Intelligence System? Our MPs ought to show seriousness and leadership on critical national matters.

    • I urge you to listen to Parliament Radio (if it is still operational) then you will realise that what has been reported is correct. The Zambian parliament is one of the dullest parliaments. There is no robust debate at all. The MPS “debate” like programmed robots. This is the reason why even the dullest person in Zambia can be a minister because there is no challenge in parliament. Ministers get away with murder. It has gotten worse since the departure of Speaker Nabulyato.

  5. If E Lungu was an indigenous Zambian he would be very concerned about what is going on in the country and their party. However, the fact that he’s got another country to run to,i.e Malawi,he doesn’t care about our country Zambia. And the people perpetrating this anarchy should be arrested. When does the state of emergence come into effect? Cage them before the crumble the country.

    • I have just read on Zambian Watchdog that Edgar Lungu is threatening Miles Sampa over the murder of Ruth Mbandu, the NIPA student whose corpse was found with a skinned face. PF should not be given another chance to rule Zambia. It is a party for evil people.

  6. You civies, do not comment on the office’s operations because you do not understand how it functions. Instead, the only person to condemn, is it’s ex chief CHUNGU. Try to finD out from him where the ZAMTROP account money is.

  7. Diplomat in diaspora to head Zsis under UPND..A professional solid record and clear of thought everything is going to be alright ….aliesa aliesa,…..favour……!!!!

  8. The state of emergency must be impose to arrest all the perpetrators trying to unsit our mother Zambia, let the country be at peace, ahead of presidential elections, on 20/01/2015

  9. Well, it’s true that ZSIS, is not up to scratch these days.

As a very young teenager, we lived in Addis Ababa Drive,Rhodes Park (it was very posh then……no ladies with ripped fishnet tights walked the street!).

We lived next to gov’t ministers and the Police Commissioner, (The one that shot himself in the mouth…..early 1970ish). Well one night and numerous other times, I went to sneak out my window one very dark night..and pop ….a face was pressed against the window! I ran screaming to dad, who went out and had a quick chat with the chap. Turned out to be one of ZSIS just checking our family out. Over time I became accustomed to strange people popping out of bushes when you least expect!

These days…..it appears they can’t rid us of political gangsters like Scott.
