Mass player Exodus looming at KCM sponsored teams

Many players are expected to ditch Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) sponsored teams: Nchanga Rangers, Konkola Blades and demoted Konkola Mine Police ahead of the 2015 season owing financial challenges.

As expected financial constraints affecting KCM this year trickled down to the three clubs.

Players at Nchanga, Konkola and Mine Police went for several months without being paid bonuses and monthly allowances.

At Nchanga Stadium players went as far as boycotting training to demand their bonus and allowances.

“It is true we have not been paid winning bonus for several games this year and players who were with the team last year have left without being paid,” a player told LT sports recently.

Six players have already left demoted Mine Police while striker Humphrey Maseneko and keeper Collins Chomba are leaving Blades for Zesco United and Green Buffaloes respectively.

Nchanga have failed to keep promising midfielder Larry Bwalya whose parent club K-Stars has loaned him to Power Dynamos.

  1. I don’t think it’s viable for one company to sponsor 3 teams. It’s time Chinese mining firms adopted some teams.

  2. kcm has reported that they want to become the best copper mine in Zambia – that’s why they don’t pay water and lights, council rates, suppliers and now their soccer teams…..what a joke – the ex rio tinto managers have not influenced the indian snakes.

  3. The Chosen One,

It is viable to sponsor three teams. Mopani sponsors two teams – Nkana and Mufulira Wanderers. In addition, they have revamped the stadia for the two teams and completely rehabilitated Nkana Golf Club to international standards. This is called corporate social responsibility; it what KCM is lacking.

  4. Sad news indeed. I think KCM should quit sponsoring KMP & concentrate sponsoring Brave Nchangers rangers & Sharp Nkonkola Blades
