Power slam Zesco for chickening out

Share

Power Dynamos have criticised opponents Zesco United decision to have Saturday’s big Copperbelt away derby cancelled at the 11th hour.

The defending champions lodged a successful application to have the game rescheduled despite only have four instead of the stipulated five players away on international duty.

Power club secretary Ricky Mamfunda has described the cancellation as unfair.

The game scheduled for Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe was due to be Power first game since May 16 and Zesco’s second after returning to action on June 3 who had also suffered a three-week layoff like their hosts this weekend.

“We wish to express our profound displeasure at your 11th hour postponement of our game without giving reasons for the late postponement of this match,” Mamfunda said in his correspondence with FAZ.

“You may wish to note that as hosting team we have already printed match tickets , paid radio adverts and the team is already in camp.

“We strongly feel your instructions to postpone this match are very unfair to us and will give undue advantage to the other clubs in the league that are not being disturbed by these postponements.”

Zesco and Power are currently 2nd and 6th on 20 and 16 points respectively heading into this weekends Week 12 fixtures.

  1. Faz is rotten. We need to clean up the mess there just like at FIFA. Why ignore the rules you created on your own? Why do you favor certain teams so openly. Malabishi. FBI will soon catch up with you through Interpol.

  2. FAZ seems to have a particular dislike for Kitwe teams. The rule here is very clear: you only allow teams that have five or more players on nation team to reschedule matches. ZESCO had four players in Ethiopia and Power had two. So the match should have been played. If ZESCO didn’t pitch up, they should have forfeited the 3 points.

Some time last year, Nkana was penalized for what they termed unruly fan behavior in two matches played away from Nkana Stadium- one at Sunset and the other in Chililabombwe!! As if they were in charge of the security at the two stadia where they were mere visitors! One also wonders what proof FAZ had that the unruly fans were Nkana supporters!
