The ruling Patriotic Front (PF)in Lusaka and the Copperbelt provinces have vowed to protect the president and party leadership using what ever means necessary.

Speaking at a joint press briefing of officials from the two provinces in Lusaka today Lusaka province chairperson Geoffrey Chumbwe said the ruling party is being forced to act violently against opposition leaders due to continued insults of the republican President and the party leadership.

He said youths in the party will not fold their arms while the opposition continue to insult the President.

He said the opposition should realize that there is only one President at a time who is also the President for the opposition hence deserves respect from all Zambians.

He said the ruling party is a peace loving party but is being provoked by the opposition through their attacks on the media especially online media.

[pullquote]“Someone using their mobile phone registered in Zambia or laptop connected to any internet provider in the country, they will not run away or hide from their crimes,” Mr. Katonga warned.[/pullquote]

He also accused FDD leader Edith Nawakwi of paddling lies when she said that the PF has employed 6000 cadres as police officers.

“I have head another lie today, Our mother Edith Nawakwi is saying we have employed 6000 cadres as police men that is a lie because I’m consulted when the party I’d doing something and I can tell you that my cadres in lusaka are looking for work”

Meanwhile Lusaka province Information Publicity Secretary Clement Katongo who read the speech on behalf of the two provinces said the party in the two province has resolved to trace all individuals posting what he termed as malicious things, insults and defamatory comments on social and other media against the president.

“You may wish to know that for as long as someone is using their mobile phone registered in Zambia or laptop connected to any internet provider in the country, they will not run away or hide from their crimes,” Mr. Katonga warned.

He said the party has instructed members and supporters across the country to report anyone suspected to be posting malicious or insulting comments on the president.

Mr Katongo further explained that the party will report all culprits to the law enforcers but will not hesitate to deal with them if the law fails.

Mr. Katongo has also urged law enforcement officers to deal with the people insulting the head of state through the media.

“If the law enforcers fail to deal with such internet criminals, we shall have no choice but to deal with them ourselves. Our party functionaries countrywide are on red alert on how to trace and deal with such criminals,” he said.

And Mr Katongo said the attacks on UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema were carried out by Ndola resident and not PF cadres.

He said the residents went to chess Mr Hichilema after they spotted him at Sun radio station because they did not want him to insult the president on the radio.

[pullquote]“If the law enforcers fail to deal with such internet criminals, we shall have no choice but to deal with them ourselves. Our party functionaries countrywide are on red alert on how to trace and deal with such criminals,” he said.[/pullquote]

“Regarding the disruption of the radio program, we have done our investigations because we get concerned when any of our members is reported to be involved in violence.

Our finding are that the people who wanted to deal with Mr Hichilema are ordinary citizens who spotted him at the radio station. We have been told that the citizens on the copperbelt and the rest of the country are not happy with Mr Hichilema because of his insults against president Michael Sata and the PF,” he said

The press briefing comes in the wake two political violence on opposition leaders in Ndola within a week which has seen wide condemnation of the ruling party PF from stakeholders.

Vice President Dr. Guy Scott arrived in Mfuwe yesterday for a three day working visit.

The Vice President arrived in Mfuwe in the afternoon, aboard a Zambia Air force Plane.

Meanwhile Eastern Province Acting Permanent Secretary Zachariah Luhanga told ZANIS in an interview in Mfuwe that the province has a lot of tourism potential.

Mr. Luhanga said the province has benefitted greatly from the tourism industry as a result of the good roads that have been constructed in the province.

He said Eastern Province has benefitted from the Link Zambia 8000 and this has helped to open up many tourist attractions in the area.

Mr. Luhanga said the boost in tourism has also created employment and resulted in the improved living standards for the locals.

He has since appealed to the investors in the tourism industry to revisit the wages they give to their workers.

Mr. Luhanga said despite providing employment to the local people, most lodges don’t give wages that befit the amount of labour that the workers offer.

Jimmy Ndhlovu planning to settle at Power

1

Striker Jimmy Ndhlovu has hinted that he may stay at Power Dynamos when his season-long loan deal expires.
Nkana have loaned the ex-Zesco United and Red Arrows striker at Arthur Davies.

Ndhlovu is currently on-fire – scoring five goals from the opening four fixtures of the 2014 FAZ Super League.

“I am on loan but if things go well I may settle at Power Dynamos and if the fans are behind me I may feel at home,” he said.

And Ndhlovu said Power must continue working hard to remain at the top of the table.

“Being on top is a big challenge, everyone wants to beat the team on top so we have to work extra hard as a team,” he added.

The Kitwe side have made a perfect start to the Super League campaign after collecting maximum points from the first four matches to amass 12 points.

Power are currently preparing to face Green Buffaloes in Sunday’s Week 5 tie at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.

Sata’s divide and rule: Who is the biggest loser?

29

By Clementino Chibashe M. Mulenga

I write as a founder member of the Patriotic Front (PF) and now washed my hands because my brother President Michael Chilufya Sata does not listen. When we fought for Independence, it was not to have the Zambia he wants to create today. We fought Welensky and his brothers so that Zambians can be free.

Today, PF has dug its own grave. The master grave digger is President Michael Sata himself. Thanks to him, atleast he can be assured that PF will not outlive his lifespan. For starters, Zambia is not a Kingdom and Mulenga Sata will never become President of Zambia.

After President Sata’s Presidency, Mulenga will spend most of his time looking for lawyers to defend him from prosecution and unfortunately, this is the scenario Sata has allowed his son to be found in.

Away from his bad governance record, which some of us who campaigned with him countrywide regret, he has decided to fight the Bemba-speaking people directly on the Chitimukulu issue because he seeks to divide and rule us.

The happenings in Kasama Central are all aimed at ensuring former Defence Minister Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba (GBM) does not emerge politically to assume the leadership of PF and possibly the nation. Whether GBM is Presidential material or not, Sata’s persecution of his former Defence Minister and financier has made GBM into a leader Zambians never thought he was. GBM’s approval ratings have gone higher than ever before- all thanks to one Michael Sata.

The problem with our brother Sata is that he thinks he knows it all. He has decided to plant more confusion in the Bembaland by sponsoring a crook, who is using Chinese money to flash out gifts to Kasama Central residents.

We have told our youths to do a ‘Don’t Kubeba’ on Kelvin Sampa. Whatever money or gifts he brings to Kasama central, we have told them to get them. We will teach him a lesson, together with my brother Sata when the day of reckoning comes. People in Kasama Central know GBM but who is Kelvin Sampa?

Kasama residents have read about Kelvin Sampa and we are wondering if this is the same Kelvin Sampa who duped former Firstlady Maureen Mwanawasa of her properties after trusting him with some of their deals? Is this the same young man who has betrayed and turned against former President Rupiah Banda and turning around to become a State witness? Is this the same Kelvin Sampa who ran an expensive advert on Zambia National Broadcasting in support of Rupiah Banda?

We are worried with our brother Sata’s judgment on this issue that he can trust such a crook? If my brother Sata thinks he will buy off Bembas with donations through Kelvin Sampa and the lies on his facebook page, here in Kasama, we will give him a taste of his medicine. We are Bembas and he will not buy us with gifts and empty promises. We made him President, gave him a base and he has turned around to spit into our face. We are watching the space!

In the past few days, he has sent OP officers to come here and assess if at all Kelvin Sampa has made any impact. I want to challenge my brother Sata to publicly announce that he does not need GBM in PF and we will advise our son to withdraw the action in court.

We advised GBM to challenge plans to expel him but maybe we were wrong. We are consulting with the churches and other stakeholders whether or not we should advise him to take a different cause of action, so that we bring this matter to its resting place.

We will teach PF a lesson because presently, the party is more divided than ever before. There is the GBM Camp, which is the biggest, then there are those who are neutral or supporting some unknown individual and those who are eating with Sampa. It is not surprising that Sata has seen GBM’s potential challenger in Sampa. Sampa’s donations in Kasama Central are not new to Sata’s ears. They have his blessings as he implements his divide and rule politics here in Kasama Central.

Sata is employing the divide and rule strategy in Kasama Central to weaken GBM’s grip and pave way for Mulenga Sata’s ascendancy to the PF Presidency. This is because he realizes that GBM’s stay within PF is not good for his anointed successor- Mulenga Sata. One does not need to be a rocket scientist to see that not even Wynter Kabimba is in Sata’s plan- he has been duped! Sata is implementing the divide and rule tactics in Kasama Central using pawns like Sampa, not because he thinks Sampa is any match against GBM. In Sata’s game plan, he would want to keep Kasama Central as unstable as possible and for some time to come.

All of a sudden, Sata’s facebook page is promising development to Kasama Central. He will maintain this confusion until the electorate in Kasama Central are fatigued. He will bribe politically pivotal groups and individuals such as Sampa and other PF blind followers off the equilibrium path against the Chitimukulu issue here in Kasama and the Bembaland in general. His goal is to ensure that he exploits fragility of social cooperation among the Bemba-speaking people.

The biggest question is who will be the biggest loser in Sata’s divide and rule game: your guess is as good as mine- Michael Chilufya Sata and PF!

Huawei connects remote rural areas to phone network

15

Chinese communications equipment giant Huawei Technologies has launched the first of a series of 169 base stations that will connect rural communities in Zambia to the mobile phone network. The development will bring the latest mobile voice and data technology to thousands of people in remote locations across the country, enabling them to keep in touch with family and friends, find out what is happening elsewhere in the nation, and become integrated into the global community.

The first tower was officially launched yesterday (April 17, 2014) by Vice President Dr Guy Scott at Matanda in Luapula Province, accompanied by the Minister of Transport Works Supply and Communications Hon. Yamfwa Mukanga, the Chinese Ambassador to Zambia H.E. Zhou Yuxiao and Huawei Technologies Zambia Managing Director Spawn Fan Wen, along with the board Chairperson of Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority (ZICTA) Emmanuel Musonda,

ZICTA Director General Margaret Mudenda, traditional leaders and more than 500 people from the surrounding area.

The coming of the communication towers will provide business opportunities for people in rural areas, said Dr Scott, who urged women and youths in particular to seize those opportunities to engage in business.

Huawei is constructing communications towers as part of ZICTA’s project to build 169 towers in all ten provinces: 21 in Central Province; 11 in the Copperbelt; 23 in Eastern Province; 19 in Luapula; two in Lusaka; 12 in Muchina; 19 in Northern Province; 26 in North-Western Province, 21 in Southern and 15 in Western Province.

The towers, of which some 57 will be serviced by Zamtel, 56 by MTN and 56 by Airtel, are expected to be completed before the end of October this year.

“Through our dedicated effort and commitment to the Zambian market, we endeavor to work with local partners towards improved network quality, affordable rates and more value-added services for the benefit of the people of Zambia,” Mr Spawn told dignitaries.

“Job creation is a key part of this strategy, and that employment will come in a number of ways. Firstly, Huawei will be employing more people to help in construction of the towers. Secondly, the economic and social benefit generated by the connection of these remote areas will generate business opportunities, stimulate trade and open up whole new markets for labour and produce,” he added.

Since the liberalisation of the telecommunication sector in 1994, Zambia has witnessed significant growth in the information and communication technology (ICT) sector. Growth has been recorded in the number of mobile telephone subscribers, Internet Service Providers (ISPs), Internet users, broadcasting stations, postal/courier operators and telecommunications networks.

Despite the liberalisation of the sector, access to ICT services is confined to residents in urban areas, leaving out the rural areas that are home to 65 percent of the country’s population.

The Universal Access Project aims to address this gap in connectivity by promoting access, affordability and availability to ICT facilities and services to all Zambians

Nawakwi Challenges Justice Silungwe To Tell Zambians The Whereabouts Of The Draft Constitution

Chairperson Justice Annel Silungwe
Chairperson Justice Annel Silungwe

Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) President Edith Nawakwi has challenged Justice Aniel Silungwe to tell Zambians the truth about the whereabouts of the Draft Constitution.

Ms. Nawakwi says as the Technical Committee chairperson Justice Silungwe should tell the public what has happened to the draft constitution as Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba is only making noise over the issue.

She said Zambians should not expect anything from Mr Kabimba as the only people that can give them their constitution is republican President Michael Sata and Justice
Silungwe as Chairperson of the Technical Committee.

“As FDD we think that Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba talks no sense and only makes noise over the constitution”

Ms Nawakwi also condemned what she termed as PF sponsored violence that has characterized the country.

She has since urged President Sata to use his discretion to order PF
cadres to stop violence

Judge Chawatama grants Harrington the application to commence judicial review

 William Harrington

High Court Judge Gertrude Chawatama has granted former Transport and Communication Minister William Harrington the application to commence judicial review proceedings against former Tourism and Arts Minister Sylvia Masebo.

This follows Mr Harrington’s dissatisfaction with the findings of the Judge Roydah Kaoma tribunal which established that Ms Masebo did not gain any pecuniary advantage when she dismissed senior Zambia Wild Life Authority officials over the tender for hunting concessions.

Meanwhile Judge Chawatama has recused herself from handling the matter in which Mr Harrington is seeking judicial review on the tribunal findings.

Judge Chawatama has since advised that the file will be reallocated to another Judge to avoid the perception of bias as she sat on the Wynter Kabimba tribunal.

She says dates for the hearing of the main matter will be communicated to both parties.

And Mr. Harrington has welcomed the decision by Judge Chawatama to grant his application for judicial review, describing it as professional.

Easter Message from NAREP

EASTER MESSAGE
LET’S FORGIVE ONE ANOTHER

Every year, Easter comes and goes, the church celebrates Palm Sunday, Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday. The church is kept busy as we all remember the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

But what are some of the lessons we need to learn and apply from Easter?
1. Confession
2. Repentance
3. Forgiveness
4. Wiping sins away
5. Reconciliation
6. Assurance.

We need to confess our sins to one another; by doing so, we are simply letting go of the bad deeds that we committed. These can be corruption, Gender Based Violence, political violence and other wrong acts.

We call upon all Zambians in authority and outside authority to live a life of repentance by putting an end to their wrong doings and doing the things that Christ requires of us to do. It’s time for children to reconcile with their parents, husbands to reconcile with their wives and neighbours to make peace with their fellow neighbours. Most importantly, it’s time to get back to God because Easter is about reconciling man with God.

Matthew 5 vs. 23 “Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24 leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift.

Matthew 6 vs. 12 Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.

It is time to start afresh. Indeed it is time to start anew and leave our bad past behind us. We can do this by doing good to others so that they too can be good to us.

We need to reconcile for the sake of Mother Zambia. Reconciliation is vital. We all need to make peace with our Zambian s in order for us to properly move forward not only as individuals but as a nation.

We need to assure ourselves of a Country we can all live in and assure our children that we will leave a better country upon which they’ll build a much better country.

This call is for all politicians, churches, civil society organisations and NGOs to put aside hatred for one another and reach out in forgiveness and reconciliation because we only have one Zambia and one nation.

We appeal to all Zambians especially the youths to refrain from engaging themselves in vices such as alcohol and drug abuse and any other activities that can be harmful to their lives during and after this period.

Furthermore, we ask for God’s peace, safety and protection on our roads so that these festivities will not claim lives.

Reverend Jevan Kamanga
National Secretary

Easter Message by HH

UPND president Hakainde Hichilema
UPND president Hakainde Hichilema

Colleagues, its Easter again. First and foremost let me wish all of us a happy and peaceful Easter. Not only is it time to reflect on our commitment to the Christian faith, but we should also reaffirm our commitment to the Christian nation proclamation for which the country is known.

Colleagues, by now we all know that the state of the nation is not what it should be in a Christian and democratic country.

We are seeing an increase in intolerance which manifests itself in many ways including violence, crime, outright defamation and closing of the democratic space especially by those in government.

Colleagues, these are difficult, but not impossible times. When the President proclaimed he would rule the country by 10 commandments, we were overjoyed and took him seriously.

But sadly, going by the current happenings, it appears he did not mean what he was saying and has completely renegade from this undertaking, in what has become his trademark.

And as predicted by some of us, amidst high prices of essential commodities such as mealie meal, the nation has again been handed down a fuel increase that will trigger an automatic increase on prices of other commodities and further bring a rise to the cost of living.

And all these hush measures are being undertaken against the backdrop of wage freeze for the next two years.

Colleagues the scenario above does not at all inspire hope. This is why as we reflect, let us seek solace from the fact that anything that is man made is not permanent.

Our lord and savior Jesus Christ conquered death. That is an inspiration enough to pray and believe that God will not let us down. It’s time to pray hard and action our prayers. Let us pray for wisdom, let us pray for prosperity, let us pray for our friends in Government, our friends in the opposition. Let us pray for peace.

Once more have a happy Easter weekend fellow countrymen and women.

Reports that Ministers are planning to break away from PF is wishful thinking-Katema

Dr. Joseph Katema

Government has described as Wishful thinking, assertions by some sections of the media that some Cabinet and deputy Ministers are planning to break away from the Patriotic Government.

Chief Government Spokesperson Joseph Katema has observed that the suggestions are clearly the work of the ruling party’s political opponents who want to gain political mileage from lies and falsehoods against the Government.

According to statement made available to ZANIS in Lusaka yesterday, Dr. Katema has confirmed that his Government was intact under the captaincy of President Michael Sata.

Dr. Katema said the government is intact and delivering on its mandate given to it by the people of Zambia during the 2011 tripartite
elections.

Dr. Katema , who is also Information and Broadcasting Services Minister, stated that Government will not be swayed by what he called cheap politicking from delivering on its development programmes.

He said government will remain focused on the agenda of building roads, schools, hospitals and other social services and facilities to improve the living standards of its people.

The Minister has since advised media houses to guard against being used to propagate falsehoods stating that if they are litigated against and lose cases in the courts of law, they may go under and they will be the first to cry foul that their media freedoms are being trampled upon.

Dr. Katema said the media should always bear in mind that freedom goes with responsibility.

Furious Shinde finally added to the legends team

14

Ex-Zambia international midfielder Jericho “Russian Tanker” Shinde has now been included in the revised legends team to face Members of Parliament in a game to mark first republican President Kenneth Kaunda’s 90th birthday this month.

Shinde had fumed after being left out of the initial 18-member Zambia legends squad to face Lawmakers on 28th April at The National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.

The Nkana legend and veteran coach said:”It is an insult that I have been left out of that squad because I played in the KK 11 team.”

However, Zambia legends team manager Stanley Kaseko said Shinde is in the squad even though his name was missing from the initial list released last week.

“He is part of the team tell him,” Kaseko said.

Shinde played for Zambia between 1981 and 1987.

He coached Nkana, Power Dynamos, Kalulushi Modern Stars and Afrisports.

Zambians have started seeing fruits of voting for PF – Guy Scott

VICE-President Guy Scott has said that Zambians have started seeing the fruits of voting the Patriotic Front (PF) into the Government as the party is determined to deliver according to its campaign promises.

Dr Scott said when the PF was going round the country campaigning, it promised to uplift people’s living standards once in power and now the fruits have started materialising.

Speaking at the launch of the first of the 169 communication towers for mobile phones in Chief Matanda’s area in Mansa yesterday, Dr Scott said the PF under President Sata is working hard to deliver services to the people.

The Government, through the Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority (ZICTA), will build 169 communication towers across the country to enhance communication services.

“You are just beginning to see the fruits of electing PF and President Sata in power. We are just two and half years in the Government and we have delivered much on our campaign promises.

“Now can you imagine what will happen when we are there for more years,’’ he said.

Dr Scott said that having a communication facility in Matanda is important for the people of that area who have been yearning for it.

He said communication is an important aspect to human life.

At the same function, Dr Scott donated 300 handsets to women and youth clubs to enable them to communicate better in their activities.

“The Chinese Ambassador to Zambia has donated to you, I have also donated 300 phones and these will go to women and youth clubs and vulnerable people so that you can start hiring them and make some money out of them,’’ he said.

Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Zhao Yuxiao assured that the towers being erected will improve services as the company contracted, Huawei, is reputable.

The ambassador also donated 100 phones to the people of Matanda.

Chief Matanda thanked Government for building a tower in his chiefdom saying people in his area would be able to communicate with their relatives and friends in other parts of the country and beyond.

He said the PF government under President Sata has done what other past governments had failed to do for the people of Matanda.

Chief Matanda said this was proof Government cares for the poor.

“What we have seen today here is something that will go a long way in the memory of my subjects. My subjects are extremely happy. Just recently we received an ambulance.

We have seen a number of clinics and schools in my chiefdom are being built, so as their chief, I am saying we are very happy with this Government,’’ he said.

Speaking earlier, ZICTA board chairperson Emmanuel Musonda thanked the PF Government for ensuring that rural areas are connected to communication systems through building towers in all areas.

Mr Musonda said the rural communications project had been on the table for a long time but because of the PF government’s commitment, it has started moving.

Minister of Defence Edgar Lungu orders removal of squatters

7

Edgar Lungu
Edgar Lungu

MINISTER of Defence Edgar Lungu has directed law enforcement agencies to remove squatters who have encroached on Lukanga Battle Training Camp land in Kapiri Mposhi because civilians are exposed to danger whenever defence forces are training.

Mr Lungu said during a pass-out parade of Zambia Army officers in Kapiri Mposhi yesterday that encroachment on training camps by civilians exposes them to danger because they can pick up displaced explosives like grenades.

Mr Lungu said it is not the policy of the Patriotic Front (PF) government to do illegalities and to tolerate it regardless of who is involved.

“I have been petitioned as Minister of Defence to look at the abuses of military uniforms by people who are masquerading as party officials or cadres. Let me assure you that I have involved the Ministry of Home Affairs in this issue because currently there is a law that prohibits the use of defence uniforms except for the purpose of theatre as accepted by law,” Mr Lungu said.

He is concerned that many people are seen on the streets wearing Zambia Army, ZNS and police uniforms.

“We are assured by the Ministry of Home Affairs that this will soon be brought to an end. We want the integrity of our men and women in uniform to be protected. We shall not allow a situation where people wear defence uniforms as they like,” Mr Lungu said.

He warned that if the Ministry of Home Affairs and Zambia Police do not help, soldiers will confiscate the uniforms.

The minister commended the Zambia Army officers for completing the rigorous yet distinguished training.

“The nation is dependent upon your vital skills and knowledge in conducting operations of high tact and skill. I want to express my confidence that judging by the military drills you have displayed and training you undertook, you will effectively undertake many assignments given to you,” Mr Lungu said.

The minister urged the officers to practise what they learnt during the training.

Mr Lungu said Government is committed to ensuring that the army has necessary equipment to enable it to effectively carry out assignments.

“Today’s parade signifies that you have a new identity donned by the distinct colour of beret contrasting from other services and corps in the army. You are regarded special, not because of your inherent abilities but because of the skills and knowledge that have been imparted in you during the last ten months of your training,” Mr Lungu observed.

He urged the officers not to use the newly-acquired skills to harm innocent human beings but to protect and preserve lives.

And Zambia Army Commander Lieutenant General Paul Mihova said the training was conducted in three phases in Ndola, Luanshya and Kapiri Mposhi.

General Mihova said the course duration was 10 months from June 2013 and that the trainees consist of volunteers from 2012 graduates and the internal recruitment conducted within the army.

Security team to probe Luangwa airstrip operations

Home Affairs Minister, Ngosa Simbyakula(r)

GOVERNMENT has sent a joint team of security officers to investigate and ascertain facts on the operations of Luangwa airstrip.

Minister of Home Affairs Ngosa Simbyakula says the ministry will send its team of officers to carry out inspections of all airstrips countrywide to intensify homeland security.

Dr Simbyakula said the Ministry of Transport, Works, Supply and Communications is also carrying out audits on all the airstrips.

“We want to get concrete information on operations at all our airstrips and the report might be handed over by the team this week,”he said.

Dr Simbyakula also warned political parties planning to promote violence or breach public peace that they will face stern action from law enforcers.

“Anyone who promotes violence will face the law. We are not going to promote lawlessness or allow people to take the law into their hands regardless of their political affiliations,” he said.

And Dr Simbyakula said his ministry has embarked on plans to build one-stop borders countrywide to ensure maximum security and curb illegal border crossings.

“Most of our borders are very porous and we are doing our best to build up one-stop borders like the one we are currently having at Chirundu. This will also promote security and ease movement of goods and services,” he said.

Earlier, Dr Simbyakula inspected Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration department buildings under construction.

The buildings are being constructed at a total of K85 million.

Dr Simbyakula commended the works which are being carried out by the contractors China Jiangsu and China Jiangxi.

He said the construction of the office buildings is aimed at decongesting the two government departments and ensure efficiency when carrying out their operations.

The new buildings are going to be mordenised with digital security monitors and equipment.

Tourism minister Kapata dissolves ZAWA board

MINISTER of Tourism and Arts Jean Kapata
MINISTER of Tourism and Arts Jean Kapata

MINISTER of Tourism and Arts Jean Kapata has the dissolved the Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) board with immediate effect.

She has also said that the review of policies and legislations on wildlife is scheduled to be concluded at the end of this year.

In a statement issued in Lusaka yesterday, Ms Kapata wished the outgoing board members success in their future endeavors.

“In line with my duties as appointing authority of the board of ZAWA, I have decided to dissolve it (board) with immediate effect.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the out-going board members individually and collectively for the contributions that they made to carry out the mandate of ZAWA. I wish them well and success in their other activities,” she said.

The minister said the nation will be informed at an opportune time on the composition of the new board.

Ms Kapata could, however, not disclose the reasons for dismissing the board but promised to call for a press conference next week to comprehensively discuss the matter.

And Ms Kapata has said Government is optimistic that the review of policies and legislation on wildlife will be concluded this year.

“I would like to inform the nation that the Ministry of Tourism and Arts is spearheading the review of the policy and legislation on wildlife.

We hope to complete both activities before the end of the year,” Ms Kapata said.

The out-going board was led by commercial farmer Guy Robinson.

Other board members included Minister of Justice Wynter Kabimba, Senior Chief Inyambo Yeta and Timothy Mushibwe.

Also on the board were Ministry of Finance economist Chasiya Kazembe, Anita Poleti, Chieftainess Mwape of Petauke, Yonas Mita and Tourism permanent secretary.
