PADERBORN: Midfielder Andrew Sinkala played the full 90 minutes for his 2.Bundesliga club on Sunday in a 3-1 away defeat at 11th placed Kolblenz.
Paderborn are 13th after Sundays defeat.

PORTUGAL.

Striker Collins Mbesuma played the full 90 minutes for Maritimo in their 1-0 away defeat on Sunday at Estrela Amadora.

Maritimo and Amadora are 7th and 11th on the log respectively.

SOUTH AFRICA.

MOROKA SWALLOWS-LAMOTVILLE GOLDEN ARROWS: Defender Billy Mwanza did not play for 13th placed Golden arrows on Saturday in their 1-0 away league defeat at 4th from top Moroka Swallows.

Striker Songwe Chalwe however did come on for Swallows in the 59th minute.

JOMO COSMOS: Striker David Mwape did not play for 3rd placed Cosmos on Wednesday in their 1-1 away draw at number 5 side SuperSport United who did not also feature midfielder James Chamanga.

Lusaka Football Association (LFA) has urged football teams in the province to get affiliated with the association to  guard their players from unscrupulous soccer agents who exploit them

LFA Secretary General Godfrey Muleya said his association’s constitution demanded
that all clubs should get affiliated with the association.

Reacting to the recent fiasco between Edusport and National Assembly over teenage
sensation Fwayo Tembo, Muleya said by getting affiliated teams will benefit from the
association’s protection.

Muleya said it was unfortunate that Fwayo of Edusport football team was recently in
a transfer scum between his team and National Assembly through a named local soccer
agent.

LFA stepped in the saga and Convinced KCM Premier side National Assembly to release
the young striker back to his team, Edusport.

It is reported that the named soccer agent demanded a lot from National Assembly
claiming that Fwayo was originally a product of his named team.

The chairman said it was a matter of urgency for all teams get affiliated to his
association to develop soccer in the province as well.

He said that LFA had won kudos from FAZ as was the only provincial association that
contributed many players in the association’s leagues

Muleya called for unity among all the clubs in the province to exploit the hidden
talents in many of the soccer players.

And the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has commended the LFA for its efforts
on developing soccer in the province.

FAZ Finance Director Sam Phiri said at the same meeting that since LFA was a major
‘feeder of player’ to FAZ, it was important that the association leads by example
for other provincial associations to emulate.

Phiri, who said he emanated from the amateur circles, added that since the LFA was
the only active provincial Association, it was only of importance that more amateur
teams in various districts in Lusaka province are reached.

“Lusaka Football Association is the only association that seems to meet FAZ’s
mission of spreading football to the rural areas, “he said.

He said FAZ was proud that LFA had introduced Division three for amateur teams in
the province.

The Scrabble Association of Zambia (SAZ) says it will host a Pan – African Scrabble Championship this year.
SAZ President Kelvin Sikazwe told ZANIS his association was honoured to be given the opportunity to host the international tournament.

 Sikazwe said it was for this reason that his association was still waiting for
authorisation from the Sports, Youth and Child Development ministry and the National
Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ).

He said the tournament is expected to be held in Lusaka or Livingstone.
He SAZ has already received confirmations from Angola, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda,
Nigeria and Ghana, among others.

“South Africa is very supportive with the preparations as they have indicated that
they would prefer the tournament takes place at the Sun Hotels in Livingstone, ‘he
said.

The winners of the championship will qualify to the World Cup Scrabble Championship
at a venue yet to be known.

Sikazwe said the championship would give participants an opportunity to elevate
their positions in the world scrabbles rating.

“Any country that would be among the top 50 with an extra slot would automatically
qualify for the World Cup which held by the United States of America.

” So if our National Champion Kalumba or any on of our players do better at the Pan
African championship they would qualify for the World Cup” he said.

Sikazwe disclosed his association has also received an invitation for the East and
Central African Scrabble Championship (ECASA) in Uganda city of Kampala.

He said since the championship was open, Zambia and South Africa are among some
countries outside East Africa invited.

And the 2007 scrabble championship kicked off on a high note with defending Champion
Paul Kalumba maintaining his lead with 5 points against 24 challengers.

Kalumba was by press time leading was at par with Kelvin Sikazwe, president of the
Scrabble Association of Zambia ( SAZ) with 5 points.

The games will be played alternatively between Copperbelt and Lusaka. The

first games were held at the Egyptian restaurant, Blue Nile courtesy of the
resturant’s management.

The monthly tournament would be part of Zambia’s preparations for the Pan African
Scrabble championship.

Meanwhile, SAZ says it plans to introduce the sport in schools and higher institutes
of learning in order to encourage the culture of reading among the pupils.

Sikazwe said only the University of Zambia was the only higher institute of
learning where the sport was popular.

He said his association was mobilising resources to purchase boards, scrabble sets
and other logistic required before introducing the sport in schools.
