Football has brought acrimony in Zambia – Kalusha

Share

Soccer icon Kalusha Bwalya says football has brought acrimony in Zambia.

ZANIS sports reports Kalusha telling Southern Province based football clubs in Livingstone, Wednesday, that it was agonising to note that the impending FAZ elections on Saturday March 29 are threatening to divide the country.

He explained that this was because aspiring candidates for various positions are de-campaigning each other.

Kalusha who is the out going FAZ Vice President but would be vying for the organisation’s top seat on Saturday, said soccer had the potential to influence attitudes and lifestyles of people in society.

” Soccer had to be used for the benefit of the nation and not to bring about divisions, ” said the former African footballer of the year.

He told the clubs and their officials at Fairmount hotel in the tourist capital in what apparently appears to be his last lap of campaigns for FAZ presidency.

And Kalusha says there was need to invest in the country’s human resource to build capacity to improve soccer standards in the country.

He said lack of capacity has dogged the country’s soccer and has been stagnant for a long time in the country that has great passion for the sport.

The soccer icon also called for commercialization of the sport and more creativity in securing sponsorship from the corporate world.

” Time for loud words and little action typical of most Zambian administrators has to end because deliberate efforts have to be undertaken to ensure that Zambia regains her lost glory in the soccer fraternity, ” he said.

Kalusha said Zambia had a rich tradition in football which had to be brought back at all costs because a country without a past to be proud of had no soul.

And Linah Mukuwa, who was part of the Kalusha’s entourage, said the forth coming elections would provide an opportunity for the realization of gender balance and equity in FAZ.

Linah said it was imperative to promote women’s soccer and extend it from being just Lusaka based to other provinces in the country because FIFA provides funds for that and it requires a minimum of 30 percent women in decision making positions.

She said women who had a good background of soccer had to be given a chance to participate in soccer issues because their clearly understood the problems that were hindering the development of soccer and how they could be resolved.

  1. There seem to be biased coverage towards Kalusha by the media including LT. I have not heard much of aspiring candidates like Adams. Does it mean that he is not campaigning? I wish there was some form of balanced coverage so we could get visions of all the aspiring candidates even if I am not a councillor.

  2. So as vice president of FAZ, what did you do to benifit zambian football, seeing you have contacts and so forth, Kalu ????

  3. Says the guy who started assasinations of the whole executive by saying he got all the deals. I think he has realised he will not win.

  4. Kalu has no contacts believe me.All he has is a sim card full of phone numbers which anybody else can have.If he had contacts, today Kalu would have been the President of COSAFA or he could have lost honourably.Lets not be blinded by past glory.Remind Kalu that we are not looking former star players but for proven and experienced admnistrators

But he was vice president !. Can some one pleas tell me what Kalu did as vice president and i will campane for him.

  7. # 6. Your answer is simple. FAZ benefited from Kalus skills as a Zambia National Coach. This was Kalu’s contribution when he was FAZ Vice President.

  8. #7 what did he do as coach am sure we all know that even Patrick Phiri did a better job than he did by far. In fact the coaching when he was coach was done by the late Ben Bamfuchile so if there is anyone who deserves a pat on the back during that time it is the late Ben Bamfuchile and not Kalu.

  9. I know am not in zambia at the moment, but one thing i know is that zambia is always with me and no one can take it away from me.About Kalu,i think we people are not fair and the man is zambian inside out.Lets give him a chance, just look at Real madrid and ask yourself who the top men are and what they used to do.Dont be fooled by people saying that football players cant do a thing, lets be open minded learn from top guys.If FIFA can see leadership skills in him and zambians cant then we are alost group. Please tell me a time when he did something against our country and all i can remamber is that he and still fighting for this country. This is the only time we have to put king kalu on top.

  10. Teddy Mulonga and Kalusha Bwalya certainly leave way too much to be desired. How come on a FIFA sanctioned date, Zambia was not in action? Almost every country around us was playing a friendly. Teams like Zambia and our friends to the east (Malawi) where no where to be seen. This speaks volumes, howbeit negatively, of the current FAZ executive.

  11. Zambian soccer is a total waste of financial resources which could be otherwise be directed at improving our delapidated health services. I wonder why Zambia continues to fund this sport when there is nothing to show for in history of Zambia’s sport. Let’s be realistic and start treating soccer as an industry by itself that is capable of financing itself without solociting for government support. if the sport cannot sustain itself, then might as well forget about the sport. We all know these boys are “good losers”, so is there any justification for continued government sponsorship? This is tatamount to throwing money down a bottomless pit, period.

  12. I love Zambia like a son loves his father, but the football of late has been dissapointing.I live in England and although I’ve been here a while I still followed Zambian football.I signed for Fulham Fc at the age of 15 to until I was 19,my time at Fulham I played and was coached by well known managers like Alan Smith,Jean Tigana even made regular appearances for the reserves while I was still an U17 player, despite my progress at Fulham no FAZ official ever took notice of me WHY? and to put it simply,if Zambia are to dominate African football again they have to look to foreign players because the standard here whether its players or managers is better and the whole FAZ can benefit from this.

  13. #12 i understand how frustrating that could be an im happy that you have aired ur views like that.what i need to acsertain from you is that are u still playing soccer and if so with which team.maybe if we soccer funs start letting faz know about the talent that is not discovered, maybe we could have many more revelation.the only reason that they never took notice of u was becoz these guys do not research but sit down and eat our taxi payers money.bruce do u stil play

  14. Iwe bruce? playing for the reserve side at fulham does not make you national team material? prove it to us that you are worthy of a player? we love to watch real zambian football “bola yamukomboni.” do not forget zambia was a more formidable side when we had less pros on our team. I wish you luck in the british league.

  15. Teddy and kalu really messed up. But these two never got along from day one.Maybe, lets give Kalu his chance to lead FAZ.As Zedians we suffer from memory lapses.I know that. This is a guy who could pay his own money to come and play, come what may.He has served the nation with distinction.Lets give a chance, personal attacks will not help solve any problem. When he was coah Zed played the most exciting football, I’m first to admitt.Let him fail then we can say we honored him.I feel we need fresh brains but coupled with passion, and it does come any better than Kalu.Viva Kalu ….

  16. Ba guy ba Bruce, are you still very active with your football?we need such pipo who have played reserve games for premiership clubs,i just hope you will not change your citizenship to english once you turn proffessional, typical of most zambians in the diaspora….

  17. mr bruce, we don’t need reserves to play for our national team. so why did u fail to break through the senior team? so wat are doing now?. kalu is the best man for the job.# 13 u are just like shakafusa, u talk too much!! but u are brainless.

  18. #1 you are absolutely right. There has been baised coverage by this LT towards Kalu. Day in day out we read about Kalu and his campaigns. Please be professional and give us better reporting not this nonsense. Help people to make informed decisions. Does it mean that your reporters are only invited by Kalu???? SHAME!!!
Let the best candidate win, though i prefer HANIF.

  19. Interesting debates here!
But Kalu is the man for me. Anyone doubting Kalu’s connection is uninformed and are displaying the worst form of ignorance.

  20. Hanif ni mwenye. If FIFA are for Kalu, who are we to refuse to recognize him.Kalu is the only Zambian since creation to have sat on world soccer governing body since God created Zambia. So why not use him in this top position. Ba Mulonga nabo nima politician in “hybernation”.

    VOTE FOR GREAT KALU!!!

  21. Why is that Zambia is the only nation where even a foreigner can become the Head of the State. Why??? Hanif ni nsamya, mwenye and why should we vote for him?? Ma Teddy nabo ni ba ex UDA member. Niba politician babelamafye muli football.

VOTE FOR GREAT KALU,the great son of Africa!!

  22. Zambians at it again! You always want to bring down anything for no reason. Kalu has been recognized by FIFA as a cable football administrator, wonder what criteria you use when you do what you (i.e pulling others who have made it big down).

  23. Kalu has the potential to develop football. Ask Mulonga what plans he has for 2010. We are ranked highly and we are failing to plan for 2010. Botwana and other low ranked countries are busy chating to Europeaan teams for them to camp in their countries. Kalu, whether people like it or not is recognised worldwide hence the connection that he has. Let us use him to develop our football in Zambia. This is an opportunity that we and we must cherish it. For Mulonga and company try next time. Look beyond Kalu. Think ahead!!

  24. Kalu has too many responsibilities bane!!! No man can serve two masters at a time, he will please one and the other will suffer!!! PERIOD!!!

  25. Kalusha please tell us what happened on the Collins Mbesuma ???? also Zambian remember Kalusha was just a player no proven administration experience not all.The little time he spent as an intern in the possition as vise president of FAZ has been graded as a fail because he spend most of his time chasing a lady to marry in south africa and also soughting out his former marriage problems.
Soccer loving Zambians let us look at someone who has been actively in soccer admin than merely the name.
for Kalu be patient your time will come do somemore internship my dear.

  26. big mouths still talking!!….kalu deserves to be on top! mulonga has been there since forever….whats wrong with giving the great kalu a chance! just look back at what he has done for zambia! seoul 88, CAN 94,96……well hanif is great too, but only at exploiting blak zambians and cricket!

  27. You animals! Am not interested to know where the hail you? Can we please do away with names of towns and Countries from your ids. Our interest is in your output no matter where you are currently slaving for your income.

Am on Chilubi Island, and making it big here. I envision building something similar to Disneyand here before the world cup in 2010.

  28. 32 hate us not. we are living well here. continue dreaming on Chilubi. wait for kalusha to build you one

  29. Post has alsways been against Kalu. Some pipo fail to separate the personal hatred of some Post employees for Kalu from what is true. Since the days Kalu was coaching the Post columns always try to subtly attack Kalu, probably for hounding out their reporters from the hotel when Zambia was camping in Europe. He probably used his ‘connections’ to ask the hotel pipo to send the reporter away. Of course the reporter was interfering with smooth preparations. Now it appears they are sworn enemies. Pipo, pls do not blindly follow the Post has they have on many occasions shown a lack of proper judgement on many issues.

  30. I also trained for arsenal and played in several high profile games in the worthington cup and the reserve side and i was never called up!!!i was even tutored by Arsene Wenger and plaed ball with some of the worlds best(Viera,Henry,Ashley Cole,Pires!!)
    where was faz??

  31. Please pipo you should understand that being an administrator is different from being a mere sports star like Kalu the great.
we should not be puting or voting for pip for high positions for the purpose of experimenting an individual how has never been in an administartive role long enough in this case kalu.
i have no hate for this boy but i think we appear to over load him with what he can not do please spare him.

  32. NO 36. would you consider yourself as a mature administrator for the reason that you played with proffessionals or proffessional games????

  33. Hey Bruce and cesc#35 why dont you guys identify yourselves fully so we can google you up and help show up the incompetent FAZ that they do not know how spot and tap talent.Plus, if you guys are as smart as you present yourselves, you could be in line for the next elections, or palace coup. Come forward, dont stay in the closet. Zambia deserves to know its hidden treasure!

  34. Bane pliz, i feel an administrator with vast experience in football can make a difference. But the issue of baiseness sld come to an end which also was seen clearly in the selection or adopting the players to the national team. We want more Lozi’s and Tonga’s in the National Team we have good players hidden in those village who needs to be uplifted than only Mr so called Bruce in the UK.
We only need 1 leader, so let us give KALU a chance if he fails us we can always change.

  35. Even mu UNIP the ward chairman become governors and ministers. People like Vera are ministers. Willie Nsanda was a call boy he became a minister. What of great Kalu? He brought honor and glory to Zambia. If Zambia qulify for 2010 he will even feature because it is his dream to play in WC. Go Kalu.!!

  36. Great Kalu is by far a right candidate than Mulonga or Adams.I’m sure he is going to win come 29.03.2008 and things in local football will change for better because Kalusha has many connections abroad and he leads a decent life.If he fails to deliver,Great Kalu shall resign, not like Mulonga, who cannot resign despite failing to deliver positive results. Please club councilors vote well or else you will ruin anticipations of many Zambians.Don’t vote like the people of Zimbambwe, who will always vote for Mugabe despite all his negatives!!!

    IT’S YOUR TIME GREAT KALU!!!

  37. Kalusha is not an administrator, he is a footballer, we have to differentiate these two things.

  38. #42 Leave zimbabwe for Zimbabwens just like skin Heads tell you Russia is for Russians.Whoever the Zimbabwens vote is for is their domestic issue, all you can ask for is for free and fair Elections.I take your contribution to be an insult on the Zimbabwens

  39. Very good points made by Cesc and Bruce, i have been to england before and give these 2 gentlemen credit, reserve football in english premiership is competetive and both these guys played for good teams.arsenal’s reserve side is probably worth a few millions,is that a lack of talent Ba Lula? i read about bruce in the post once, type bruce lwando or bruce luando in google search.people let’s stop all these other rich international clubs steal our players.the french have been succesful with the help of foreign players, this would not happen if we show an early interest in our guys after all they bring new experience.

  40. very interesting points made by mr cesc and mr bruce.
i have been in the states for about 5 years and still follow football and our boys and i have to say if you watch some of the english reserve sides playing it’s very competetive and 1st team players regulary feature in the reserve sides and Ba Lulu you can’t say these 2 gentleman are not good enough.good luck guys!!!!!

  41. I blame faz for the standard football today, our chief scounts should have picked up on these foreign based players earlier.you look at the western sides, they keep tab on of all their best national players and nature the young whether they are playing on home soil or abroad.what do we pay FAZ scouts for, we all know what talent we have here so surely the taxes that we all pay should be enough to do some reaerch on foreign based players or keep tabs on them.these foreign players can help other top footballing nations to zambia for more talent which can only benefit FAZ and the player economically and encourage these players to spend the money they make back home.

  42. i remember reading about Mr Bruce in the post a few years back.I am suprised faz did not bring him to play for zambia.come Ba Lula let us not hate Bas Lula 17 years old in the reserves for a premiership club is a good achievement for a young man in any top flight football.so in the future instead of hiring foreign managers , zambian foreign based players can give us the different technics that they have been taught by the likes of mr hanif.

  43. #27 stop using my name to bad mouth Kalu, he has done a lot for Zambian football and he has my vote anytime.
#18 & #40 I think you 2 missed the point totally,it’s not about me but the future of zambian football.log on any premiership side in England and you’ll be suprised to find top rated players playing in the reserves and not the 1st team.If I was playing reserves for mickey mouse F.c your point would be justified.
#35 FAZ should have got in touch with you and gave you your shot and I bet we are not the only ones. The FAZ scouts search for zambian talent should be national and international so the manager has the best to work with and not because it’s too much of an Inconvenience

  44. #34 (Problem!), while I do not know the real issues between the Great Kalu and the POST, I do recognise the fact the POST has a certain way of presenting their judgement.

Normally, it appears like the editor of the POST presents his personal stance on issues. I have seen this kind of attitude by the POST on almost all issues affecting human life in Zambia eg PEOPLE IN POLITICS.

On the issue in question on here, I feel the great Kalu should be given a chance to prove himself. After all, one term in FAZ doesnt take long. We can then check his performance based on his VP and Pres. roles on the next election after thgis one.

  45. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU ZAMBIANS?? EVEN IN THIS PART OF THE WORLD WE KNOW YOUR SOCCER ICON KALUSHA BWALYE.WHY NOT VOTE FOR SUCH PEOPLE.THIS MAN IS VERY WELL KNOWN HERE IN BAGDAD. WE DON’T THESE OTHER TWO; MULONGA AND HANIF.

IT THINK WITH KALUSHA,ATLEAST FIFA WE RECOGNIZE YOUR HOPELESS COUNTRY-ZAMBIA SO MUCH THAT YOU SHALL BENEFIT GREATLY FROM ALL THOSE INSTITUTIONS THAT HAVE RESPECT FOR YOUR SOCCER ICON.

I AM TOLD SIMATA SIMATA WAS AT ONE TIME FAZ PRESIDENT.BUT WHY HIS HE STANDING AS VICE PRESIDENT THIS TIME??VERY INTERESTING INDEED??

VOTE FOR KALUSHA BWALYE AS FAZ PRESIDENT!!

  46. Iam a Zambian residing in England and I find it hard to believe the attitude of my fellow Zambians, Why would any one doubt Kalusha Bwayla credentails First of all talk about influence The only Zambian I have ever seen at a World cup Draw is Kalusha Only the big wigs were invited to attend that Ceremony. What is wrong with you lot, no wonder football has gone to the gutter in Zambia. Teddy Mulonga is a very spiteful and arrogant person he wants to run FAZ as a personnel ennity, People like that should run their own companies to the ground.

  47. BA KALU YOU ARE NOT YET RIPE FOR THE POSITION LET HIM START FROM MUFULIRA WANDERERS AS CHAIRMAN SO THAT WE SEE HIS ADMINISTRATION SKILLS COZ AT THE MOMENT , HAS A VICE HE HAS DONE NOTHING.

  48. # 57. ON WANTED you are right. kalu was a great player yes, but he has been vice and what has he done ???If he was not in faz, he has the right to criticize. But the man is in Faz yet he is criticizing his organisation. What has he done for a single zambian player with all his contacts, or a club ??? Ideally he should manage a zambian club first. The problem with Kalu is he wants to imagine the Faz job is a top job in the european league. He does not what to go to grass levels. We need someone ready to build from the ground, how will visiting world cup draws and sitting on SA tv help.
He dosent even go to watch local matches. He has the credentials but wrong attitude. Illussions of grandur

  49. #55. IRAQ – IBRAHIM just concentrate on rebuilding Iraq.Your country is at war and I doubt your sanity. How on earth can you reason like that?.

  50. So much for Kalusha sitting on a committtee at FIFA. Of what benefit has it been to the Zambian soccer fraternity? He made his mark as a player but as an administrator he has yet to prove his worth. What will change when he becomes FAZ President? Will the “Great Man” finally move back to Zambia or will he continue to reside in South Africa? The contest should be between Hanif and Teddy.

  51. #57#58#59#60 Sceptics!!! small minded nonenties where are you now? No where, it’s *****s like you who contribute to the lack of development of football in Africa. Hats of to great Kalu and his team wish you all the best.

  52. Post sensible comments mwebantumwe. Dont insult and call pipo names. As for Bruce and the other gentleman, Are you guys serious/still active and want play for our Z national team? Please make contact with the relevant pipo.

  53. #63 cacine. Some people’s comments are just full of hate and grudge, I wonder how they sleep at night. Kalusha has a lot of international experience in the soccer world and he knows what he is doing. Why is it so hard to trust him?
