Fuel export wont create shortage, Konga

Share

Energy Minister Kenneth Konga has assured Zambians that there will be no fuel shortage.

Mr. Konga says the country has enough fuel stocks at both Indeni Oil Refinery in Ndola and Tazama pipeline in Dar-er-Salaam, Tanzania.

The Minister explained that the exportation of fuel will not affect the supply of the commodity in the country.

Mr. Konga further explained that Indeni and Tazama Pipeline asked government if they could export fuel to create space since all tanks are full.

    • You are right this does not sound good at all.we might end up exporting everything only to end up having a shortage………

  1. Yes #1 it does not sound true ..remember we exported maize to Zim only to turn around and start importing GMO maize.

  2. You have a surplus of diesel, you decide to export at the same time import raw material (crude) to make diesel. Are we going to make a profit by exporting and if so hopw much? Rememebr we exported maize cheaply only to import it at a high price. There will be a shortage believe me, Zed figures are cooked. Rememeber the fictious maize bumper harvest. we never saw it. The winter maize, we never saw it. List endless. Reduce crude imports to manageble levels maybe and as long as it creats space with no shortages.

    • I agree with you. The export/Import numbers in Zambia are really confusing. This is all the more dissapointing in view of the enormous quantities of copper and maize that leave our country every year. I also find it hard to believe that a non-oil producing country can be able to compensate for it’s fuel shortages by exporting from it’s own limited resources. Can some real economists out there please explain in simple terms how this is possible?

  3. Zambia needs people who can plan and implement things properly. We are tired of the same old story of failing to adequately manage fuel stocks. We need a serious change in people managing our economy. This is poor management. Period

    • Ayi. Why not construct more silos? Let them read Genesis and see how the Egyptians prepared for a famine that was going to come in 7 years.

    • I smell a rotten rat here! Remember the fuel saga a year or two ago. Fuel and dollars exchange hands between some dirty govt officials and zim govt. somebody pocketed the money, but nobody knows who that is.

  4. Kindly update me on the countries that we indeni is exporting oil to? For sure this oil is exported at a lower value than we are actually buying it locally. Kindly provide more background info for those of us without that knowledge.

  5. Why create space for the sake of importing more? Why not sell locally and order when stocks reach a safe minimum level.? Hope the minister will not come up with an excuse if we a re heat by a shortage?

  6. Other stories are talking about increasing price of fuel due to the misbehaviour of the kwacha! I take it they want to clear the stocks bought cheaper and create space for the more expensive. It difficult to reconcile whats going on. Chances are that the Minister has filling stations and is not confortable with the current prices.

  7. Thing is, because of the dep of the Zmk we will be importing fuel at twice the cost. Fuel in most neighboring countries is still cheaper than in Z and their currencies are not melting away as quickly as the Zmk. Which means we will sell, to them, our cheaply sourced fuel at cheap prices to make room for the more expensive. This is total ludacris.

  8. Poor management skills. Export fuel just to create space since the tanks are full?? someones brain is not ticking/workining well in here..
