Some Lusaka residents have expressed happiness at the

significant reduction in load shedding in the capital city.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka, one of the Lusaka residents, Stanley Nyimbiri, said the reduction in load shedding in Lusaka was a very good development to the country.

Mr. Nyimbiri said the reduction of load shedding meant that a lot of people who use electricity would be less inconvenienced.

He has since urged the government to ensure that reduction of load shedding continues even in other parts of the country.

Another Lusaka resident, who sought anonymity, said he was very happy that load shedding had stabilized in the capital city.

He also called upon government to ensure that load shedding continued to stabilize adding that this would even increase production in the manufacturing industry

He however advised that there was need to find a lasting solution to the problem of load shedding in the country.

He hoped that load shedding would not recur.

Yet another resident, Julius Sakala expressed happiness at the drastic change in the reduction of load shedding in some parts of Lusaka.

Mr. Sakala urged the government to ensure that the reduction of load shedding was sustained.

He said most of the parts of the country were affected by load shedding because the government exported a lot of electricity to other countries.

He said government should not export a lot of electricity to other countries so that local people were not affected.

Zambia and many other Southern African countries are facing a serious electricity deficit, which has forced government to load shed.

    • How shallow can a person be.Reduced load sheding is an indication of low productivity. It is ironically a bad sign of times ahead

    • I propose you do your research before you call others shallow. Have you found out how much power generation has increased through the upgrading of turbines at Kariba North Bank and Kafue Gorge power stations?

  1. The reason is that the mines which were consuming a chunk of electicty have either closed or cut down on operations…Just wait when they open..we’ll be back to square one….Zambians should also brace themselves for the proposed new Zesco tariffs otherwise they wont know what hit them..

  2. they are politising the who issue. why did they load shed before elections and now they seem to have found a solution from no where. we need a clear explanation!

  3. So wats the connection between loading shedding and those waitng to hike a bus? L|T nayo u bcomin dead boring. If a context has no pix live it tht way

  4. What other choice do the residents have? As long as ZESCO owns the monopoly of electricity supply in Zambia, people will always be at the mercy of this company. Here in Europe, the governments allowed competition in the energy sector a long time ago and so consumers have a variety of electricity suppliers to choose from. What are we still waiting for?

  5. Electricity is a capital intensive industry and you need economies of scale to be profitable. Avoid having an inferiority complex. Not every solution in Europe would be suitable for Zambia. The people running Europe were with us at University and we beat them in class.

  6. Load shedding was a result of the increased mining activities during the copper boom. Now that most of the mines have shut down or are on C & M, production has reduced curtailing the electricity demand. It is not as a result of ‘the good economic policies’ of the govt as people like to say. So do not rush to praise the govt because when copper prices pick up and these mines are up and running, its back too the dark ages

    • Don’t be too sure or do you enjoy being a pessimist. Rupia just laid a foundation stone for new generators at Kariba North Bank and work on the TATA Power station at Iteshi Tezhi has began. You may actually be disappointed that the story is not all of failure as you would wish. I take your point, the job of building power stations should have continued after Kaunda. Unfortunately IT DID NOT.

  7. they are just blind folding Zambians. They want to make you happy so that you dont get concern with their intentions to hike the tarrifs.

    • WHO? sikota WINA? He is the Chairman of ERB. There will be some increase but it wont be 60%. The government is not popular enough to sustain such an increase.
