Zambia has today joined the rest of the African continent to commemorate Africa Freedom Day which falls on 25th May every year.
The occasion was graced by President Rupiah Banda who led service chiefs, members of the diplomatic corps and freedom fighters in laying wreaths at the freedom statue to commemorate the Africa Freedom day in honor of the freedom fighters.
The occasion was also attended by Second Republican President Fredrick Chiluba, opposition All Peoples Congress Party (APC) President Kenny Ngondo, cabinet ministers and their deputies.
President Banda who arrived at the Freedom Statue around 8:20 hours was accompanied by his wife Thandiwe.
The occasion to commemorate Africa’s freedom and the fallen heroes was characterized by solemn music and gun salutes by the Zambia Army.
Zambia Army Chaplain Colonel James Phiri then read the bible before Zambia Police Chaplain Assistant Superintendent Lawrence Kayando led the gathering with a prayer.
And speaking in a sermon on freedom Zambia National Service Chaplain Reverend Major Henry Matifeyo said noted that freedom is the absence of interference with the sovereignty of an individual by the use of coercion.
He said freedom must be well used in order to obtain meaningful benefits adding that freedom must not be taken for granted.
Rev. Major Matifeyo also urged Zambians to continue embracing the Ubuntu concept that calls for unity instead of individualism.

What is freedom?
Open note to RB – Get a grip on the country, you have no control. The country is in a free fall of corruption and poverty and all you have to show for it is 100 hearses.
#3 Bwalya, Freedom from opression. Even though we have not yet fully attained it, Freedom is the lifetime goal that we Africans must continue to pursue, so that one day our children & their children shall fully experience the true meaning of Africa Freedom Day.
The Ubuntu concept is also a very good thing since it is 100% Zambian. I wish we could also set a date apart to celebrate “Ubuntu Day” like the East Africans celebrate Uhuru Day.
Freedom is a state of mind of emancipation from conditioning. When you are emancipated from the mental cages put around your minds then you will know what freedom is .
I hope FTJ can brave the court sessions just like he is attending to such outdoor functions
This should be a day when we remember those who started our figt for freedom. The best way to honor them is to keep fighting and keep the spirit of Pan-Africanism.
Otherwise, the flowers will wither and the poor will still suffer.

agree with you my fellow blogger, what is peace minus people having food on their tables , no water at the hospital , no medicine , no work, no doctors at the hospital no teachers and no housing for the people of Zambia. the list is endless .The peace which is in zambia is enjoyed by foreigners and NOT ZAMBIANS the foreigners have business and taking away all the little business zambians can do. What is peace minus economic empowerment of the local. Brother and sisters from CEEC are demanding cuts from the proposal you submit what is ? ‘Is this peace which RB and Teta’s sing about.
Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows.

Let Zambians, all Africans and World Citizens unite for us all to have a better worl to live in. For your information, Zambia in particular or Africa in general is vey blessed as we still take religion seriously. In others places, it is a serious issue.

Freedom is F.T.J. moving round -about freely when he is a straight forward ‘jail bird’ case. Come July, hope to hear the expected verdict… whichever way.
I agree….. Africa is continent that is marred in the trenches of poverty and whose governments are left, apparently, with no choice but to resort to tainting our image by being excessive borrowers/beggars….. And as I know it, a beggar is not a chooser – and so with limited choices comes limited freedom or jus no freedom at all!!!!
However, lets not forget that the men and women for whom this day is for and who we (must) honor today, did what had to be done in their time: They helped give Africa back to Africans…….We, on the other hand, have a new calling which we must choose not TO SHY AWAY from: To give Africa back its pride and dignity.
It starts with being patriotic, loving citizens….
3&4 are right to ask the question: “Freedom from what?” Indeed, freedom from what when we have never seen any real benefits of freedom on our continent. In Zed in particular freedom has even bestowed FTJ (a London judgement thief) as the former second president with a life-time salary and benefits for having stolen from the people of Zed. He indeed can commemorate freedom. In sickness he enjoys trips to RSA. He is enjoying freedom in Africa, why not Titus Mpundu?
# 6 Chale, I disagree with you, Africans are very free compared to Germans, for sake of comparison. You can’t promote that “Ubuntu” in Zambia, neither Africa, sounds too ethinic. The problem will is that those 5 colored-children you have will find it difficulty to find Freedom. I never seen an oppressed Zambian.
LT, you seem to hate facts. But you can’t stop people calling FTJ by his real names when he never abandoned “Titus Mpundu” names by deed poll which is an illigality in Zambian law.
Do your research and you will find no record of Titus Mpundu changing his names to Fredrick Chiluba by deed poll.

From 17 therefore I agree with 3&4 for asking the question ‘Freedom from what?’ because freedom only belongs to Titus Mpundu alias FTJ who has enjoyed stealing from the Zambian people with impunity (London judgement) and continues to enjoy a salary and benefits from hard working Zambian tax-payers for life.
