MISA urges media to develop sexual harassment policy

Share

The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Zambia chapter has urged media houses in the country to come up with sexual harassment policies to protect women from being sexually harassed.

MISA Zambia Chairperson Henry Kabwe says it is evident enough that sexual harassment against women exists in media houses hence the need for media houses to come up with a policy.

Mr Kabwe was speaking in Lusaka today at the launch of the Zambian report dubbed “Glass Ceiling” Women and Men in the Southern African Media Houses.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kabwe has congratulated the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) for being the only media house in the country that has a sexual harassment policy in place.

He appealed to all national and community media houses to pursue, adopt and implement the sexual harassment policy to protect vulnerable women from being sexually harassed.

He said if all media houses adopt and implement the policy, a lot of people would understand the seriousness of sexual harassment of women in media houses.

  1. Our mothers should at all times be respected and protected. I would edge the powers that be to enact laws to cage the sex maniacs and protect our ladies young and old. However our dear ladies equally have an important role to play by behaving and dressing well. You may not realiase that by behaving and dressing in a certain way you are sending indicators about the type of person you are. The behavoiur of some of our ladies, some of them married, at our work places live much to be desired. Our dear ladies who work night shift dress the way the do because of who they are. You are what you wear.

  2. That is a positive step because, there is a lot of sexual harrassement and the use of bottom power in the enviable media houses

  3. Henry Kabwe is a very dull journalist. He has no journalism experience and makes a living attending MISa workshops. MISA now has 37 members going by their last AGM. MISA is only a name as all the money has been stolen by Henry kabwe and another fool called Chembo. These are the NGOs that should be investigated for stealing donor money. These fools when he hear them speak you will think they are trustowrth. MISA is now funded by the Post and this is true.

  4. How did journalist allow a charlatan like Kabwe to lead them? There were no credible journalists to run that thing. That rough looking guy is supposed to be kaponya or something. But then, what do you expect from quacks?

  5. Yes, I also know henry Kabwe very well. He is only fit to be editor of Lusaka Times not to lead any serious media organisation. But then it makes Mmembe happy to be surrounded by such low calibre people in the media. Makes him don

  6. It is sad that Henry Kabwe is now receiving attacks from masqueraders who he has denied membership to MISA Z. They are so upset that one of them has code named himself by ‘MISA’.These fools do not know Henry Kabwe at all. From Evelyn Hone College, the man worked for the Voice of America (VoA), the National Mirror, The Monitor and others with veterans like Arthur Simuchoba and Jowie Mwiinga who liked him. The only sin the guy has committed is that he is a young man who cannot be compromised. Abash masqueraders!
