Share

Power Dynamos rampaging right-back Govender Simwala has been drafted into a 33-man Zambia Under-23 team named by coach Lucky Msiska for the teams’ 2011 All-Africa Games qualifier against Zimbabwe on January 8.

Simwala will be hoping to follow the footsteps of his late legendary father Moses Simwala in wearing a Zambian shirt.

The defender has been a regular at Power for the last two seasons under Fordson Kabole.

Also in the team is Under-20 starlet striker Chakwa Lungu who inspired  the team to retaining the Cosafa Youth Championship with five goals in Botswana last Sunday.

Joining him from the Cosafa Youth team are Under-20 team mates Evans Kangwa and defender Steven Kabamba.

Msiska has also call-up up former junior internationals from 2007 namely midfielders Justin Zulu, Nathan Sinkala of Green Buffaloes, Rangers defender Moses Mulambi and ex-Lusaka Dynamos striker Stanley Nshimbi.

However, there is a surprise recall for Nchanga Rangers goalkeeper Fred Silwamba who was part of the Under-23 team under Peter Kaumba in 2007.
The team will go into camp this weekend in Lusaka and will break camp on Christmas Eve before regrouping after Boxing Day.

  1. For Msiska to be safe, he better call all foresign based under 23, starting from Mayuka, Mbola, Fwayo, Chisamba and the boys from Finland, South Africa and the 2 reported in USA. It is ok to gather as many new players as possible, but it is all about winning matches.

  2. Congrats for the Simwala boy indeed his father was great player and an inspirational coach for Nkana Red devils back in the early 90’s,those where the days. All the best to the lads….

  3. # 1 Selako..
For your information no football match ineher from November till mid May. The footballers are back home for winter break.. Msiska may know this as well.

January 16, 2010 at 11:43 am The Zambian team physicians need to work on body mass and fitness of our players. We have players with skills but lack tenacity and hunger for scoring goals. We can’t win tournaments with skill alone as Dennis Liwewe once said, we need to include players that are “tall, powerful, dark skinned and ugly” to match our west african brothers. This is why Zambian players never make it in the premiership because they look emaciated. Let’s not let Cameroon intimidate us with their physic. Good luck boys!

  4. You are right #3. We have skillful players but lack the muscle or “stamina!” The likes of Big Michael Chabala, Mordon Malitoli, the taller Litana (who outjumped the Nigerian defense to score in the Cup Final ’94), the likes of tall Fighton Simukonda and the dark skinned Kenneth Malitoli are lacking in our camp! Go get ’em all!

  5. Senior coach back 2 Europe. We’ve high tech that shopping can be done through the internet.I don’t agree with the monitering of our coach he can just watch the cds and communicate with their coach through phone

  6. FINLAND!!!!!!!!!!? ahhhh, who got these players contracts in finland shuwa, i dont know who these players are but i would bet on their agents either being crooks or they are not really quality players, FINLAND???? our west African Brodas are flooding real, top quality Europian teams and we are sending players to FINLAND!!!!! ah Zambia will never achieve its full potential if players are going to play in teams from FINLAND

  7. There is something vintage about Lucky Msiska,His squad will perform accordingly just take head of # 1,3 and 4,s points.

  8. Its a waste of time and money. Zambia has already lost the match against Zim Zim even before taking to the field. When did Zambia last qualify for any meaningful junior championship?
