UPND/PF pact challenged on gay rights

Time Posted: January 5, 2011 2:30 pm

The PACT leaders ( Michael Sata and Hakainde Hichilema)

The Forum for Leadership Search has challenged the PF/UPND pact to state their position on the gay rights.

Forum for Leadership Search executive director Edwin Lifwekelo has said the opposition Patriotic Front (PF) and United Party for National Development (UPND) should state their position on the issue of homosexuality and secular state with regard to Zambia being declared a Christian Nation.

Mr. Lifwekelo has told QFM today that he is aware of the fact that some opposition political party leaders are meeting donor countries that believe in the rights of gay persons and support the declaration of Zambia as a secular state.

He said Zambians would not allow selfish leaders that support gay rights and Zambia being a secular state, calling on the church to guard jealously the declaration of Zambia as a Christian nation.

He added that the church should resist leaders that have auctioned Zambia on condition that they would recognize gay rights and declare Zambia a secular state once in State House.

Mr Lifwekelo noted that he fully supports vice president George Kunda’s challenge to the UPND/PF pact to state their position on the same sex relationships.

The Forum for Leadership Search INDEED!! so if we need leaders we should just go to The Forum for Leadership Search.??
Lifwekelo, Zambia has never been a Christian Country and it will never be. What i know is that Human being have the choice to belong to any religion of their choice or even not to belong to any at all. It is not up to the GRZ, or an organisation such as The Forum for Leadership Search to decide.
About gays?? well i dont know because i am not one..The sad reality is that gays are among us and they will always be there.

What one or more conscenting adults do in the privacy of their own room is nobody’s business but those participating. That privacy, no matter what it may be or how it is spent, should also be kept in the confines of said room. I have no idea what the sexual orientation of probably 70% or more of those whom I know is, and frankly have no interest on what that may be, as it is surely, absolutely, 100% none of my business, THAT SHOULD BE THE ATTITUDE OF EVERYONE OF US

What do I care who they go to bed with?? What I want to know is, how do you treat other people? What morals do you have? What standards do you hold yourself to as a human being? Are you kind to animals?
Sata and Hakainde should accept gays and legalise it. Dont live in the 18th century

    Thanks

It is very retrogressive to hype discussion about gay rights on the expense of fundamental issues facing the Zambian economy, development and democracy. Let us move with time and the world – being gay is no longer a taboo and being against gays is certainly unti-christianity. Jesus embraced a prostitute in Mary Magdalene while prostitution was and is still banned in the bible. Was he being anti-christian then? If the opposition have supported the gay rights then they should be appluaded for being intune with our era. My advice to HH and Sata is to steer away from this discussion as it is a ploy by MMD to misconstrue christianity. By the way I am not gay.

Declaring Zambia a Christian nation has not in itself added any values because people have not changed the way they conduct themselves. I am not an advocate of homosexuality and must not be allowed to take root in Zed, but neither has prostitution been scaled down by the declaration.

Probably we need to conduct a massive “Operation Coitus Interruptus” across the country maybe the declaration will make sense

mushota you started having sexual intercourse at 13 when you were a minor with no consent status. you were defiled, raped, abused, and I wonder if you have a normal birthcanal bcos at 13 its not ready for sexual acts. you need psychitric help no wonder you have ended up with an old whiteman bcos they take advantage of mentally deranged poor girls like you. your birthcanal might need reconstruction bcos it must be damaged permanently without you realising

I never really understood “gay rights”. I mean if A homosexual man wants to marry a woman he can marry a woman, If a gay man wants to shop freely in a store, he can shop freely in a store so what rights do homosexuals really want? If they think we should allow them to perverse society with their perverted acts then they’ve got another thing coming.

Zambia is a Christian nation and it shall remain that way forever. Majority of the people in Zambia recognize Christianity as there preferred religion. Christianity remains the most practiced religion in Zambia. Declaring Zambia a secular state is declaring Zambia a non-Christian nation and is an act against God. We must therefore respect and defend the declaration of Zambia as a Christian nation whether you practice Christianity or not.

Zambia is secular, last time I checked. The declaration has not brought back the rule of the religious right in the administration of justice if I can remember (no eye for an eye and turn the other cheek stuff is happening yet). On gay rights, well, it is a struggle that will continue for as long as African countries elsewhere are condoning it. By the way, I am ware some religions do allow anal sex as well as sodomy as a matter of practice… food for thought then.

There is a lot of ways and places to do it and sattisy the partner. Thats what i have learnt as i have grown. back front, mouth between breasts anything, is irrelevant.

These are the issues we need to be clear of when making the decision to choose our leaders. Leaders should not drive on selfish ambitions nor desire to earn financial support to get enough political mileage. It is a big issue which can show a clear moral stance of a credible leader. Remember money is something but what is importantant is peace & fairness in what we are doing. A leader can advocate for gay rights to earn a simple way to plot one but it will injure our christian beliefs and doctrines thats why i support VIP on that stance.

Overall, I hate these people who pop up and echo others’ words just to be seen to be saying something. Indeed Mwanawasa had dealt with one man NGOs but alas, they’re back!
I like the challenge put to the opposition, how I wish the opposition was challenged to state their position on many other issues of national interest. Out of the many issues affecting our people, Lifwekelo is asking about gay rights! Is this our priority? He and those he supports should start by asking the opposition what they will do to increase job opportunities which will translate into food on the table and improved health and standard of living of the poor majority Zambians. I think the gay issue is NOT a priority at all. Please learn to speak on issues that add value to Zambian’s, keeping quiet is valuable…

For your information ba Capitalist, even Christians can bring perversion. Case in point, FTJ grabbing another man’s wife just after declaring Zambia a Christian Nation. Another case is our sitting President Rupiah Banda marrying his grand daughter Thandiwe. Probably we should include these two in this discussion. Anything that two consenting adults do in the privacy of their bedroom cannot be regarded as perversion unless it destroys ones marriage or they include kids in those acts like FTJ and Banda have done. In fact, this is not a political discussion because it really is a religious and social discussion. Why should politicians start picking our partners? Politician should be very much concerned with our economy, development but not our bed mates. Imagine FTJ picking your spouse.

FTJ will get you in a relationship with either a very big woman like Vera, or a very tall woman than you like Regina. His choices are weired. So, let people do their own thing. As much as we talk about it, we are even informing those that don’t about it to try it. Banda, Sata or even HH are not experts on homosexuality, probably we should leave it to our pastors momentarily.

in as much as i hate homosexuality and those who try to force others to accept it all in the name of civilization. i want to state that as a christian, homosexuality is sin just like prostitution, infidelity, cheating, etc and therefore it is wrong only to look at homosexuality as the only sin. it should be condemned together with all the other sins. it should not be allowed just as we do not allow other sins, but crucifying those involved instead of helping them is absurd.
i think as Christians we tend to consider some sins bigger than others but what does the bible say? it says that if you break one of the laws of GOD you have broken them all. so if you cheat on your wife do not think you are better than a homo, any sin equates you to homo as it put you on the same level in the eyes of GOD.
