UPND picks candidates for CB parliamentary seats

The United Party for National Development (UPND) on the Copperbelt has picked parliamentary candidates for the 22 constituencies in the province and has since stepped up campaigns for the 2011 tripartite elections.

Party provincial chairperson Elisha Matambo said the party had picked “serious and high-calibre” parliamentary candidates and was now conducting door-to-door campaigns to convince the electorate to vote for UPND in the elections.

Mr Matambo said in an interview in Kitwe yesterday that the party believed in reaching out to the people and explaining its manifesto to them.

When asked why UPND on the Copperbelt had decided to pick parliamentary candidates without involving pact partners, the Patriotic Front (PF), Mr Matambo said PF had equally picked its parliamentary candidates for the constituencies country-wide disregarding the UPND.

“Yes, we are in a pact but we can’t just sit idle and watch our colleagues making decisions like picking candidates for the 150 constituencies.
“We have to move and so we have picked the parliamentary candidates for the 22 constituencies on the Copperbelt. We have picked high-calibre candidates, not some of these MPs you see,” he said.

Mr Matambo said the party had also picked candidates for local government elections in all the wards in the province and was working hard to ensure that UPND emerged victorious.
UPND national youth spokesperson Joe Kalusa said the party was aware of PF’s manouvres and it had already adopted candidates for all the constituencies.

Mr Kalusa said PF finalised the processing of adopting candidates for the Copperbelt
Province last week.
“The meeting where the PF adopted the candidates for the 150 constituencies was held at the house of Kasama Central PF Member of Parliament Geoffrey Mwamba’s sister in-law in Lusaka. We know the manouvres of PF.

“The meeting ended at 02:00 hours and this is where they planned for a series of rallies. The Zingalume rally was the first one,” he said.
But PF spokesperson Given Lubinda denied that PF had picked parliamentary candidates for all the constituencies.

  1. Its high time the PF/UPND came out in the open and declared the Pact does not exist. When they appear in public they are telling us the Pact is still there while their actions are contrally to their assertions. So, what should we believe? The whole thing is a big joke. Be practical and tell the people what is on the ground. It seems none of the Pact members wants to face reality.

  2. Thank you very much…..to all the opposition parties lets start preparing for 2016 elections we are not ready for this years tripartite elections. We have a better chance then because others will be tired.

  3. Those of you who’ve been hallucinating about the so called “PACT”, read and weep! PF and UPND have been raising people’s hopes for nothing and wasting all of our time. These id-iots (PF and UPND) will be the same ones barking and crying when RB wins this yrs elections, claiming rigging, when united they could have easily taken over power. I’m baffled!!!

  4. I have heard too much of this from pf/upnd. Its too much. Why cant you just unite and work together. From now on, I will never support this thing called pact. Let the mmd continue in power. Twalibelela ukuchula.

  5. The problem Zambia has is that we have 2 old people as front runners. I really pity the kids who are graduating from colleges and universities. Most of them are growing old without jobs. Supprisingly, many of thses chaps are them ones supporting Sata or Rupiah! Very weired.

  6. The pact has failed because of Sata’s selfishness. UPND were ready to give him post of president but he wants too much power at same time. He does not want to accept some contributions from UPND, at the end he will loose everything. If anything he is much older than HH who has more years of being in politics.

  7. Chilufya Sata you f-ool; you’re 74 yrs old so this is your 4th and last chance to get into plot 1. Why sideline UPND, whom you badly need in order to win? Wanya chi-kala, come 2016, you’ll be a limp dick 79 yr old with nothing to offer (assuming you don’t suffer a 2nd heart attack). HH mwana, you’re only 49, so no worries; go all out and get as many parley seats as possible in 2011 while laying the groundwork for 2016. This yr, my vote will go to Rupiah Bwezani Banda!!!

  8. Guys let all gang up and give Bwazani 100% VOTES to complete his term..2016 we give HH 105% so that SATA remains in oppostion for ever.

VIVA RBBBBBBBBBBBB…Am niw very musch ready to support RB, I WISH I COULD GET IN TOURCH WITH him.

  9. PF Kaponya,

Jeremiah 17:5- This is what the LORD says: “Cursed are those who put their trust in mere humans, who rely on human strength and turn their hearts away from the LORD.

Isaiah 2:22 -Stop trusting in man, who has but a breath in his nostrils. Of what account is he?

Put your trust in the Lord
    Psalm 4:5

Psalm 4:5-Put your trust in the Lord

Let God be true but every man a liar” (Romans 3:4).

Millions have entrusted the salvation of their souls to man, rather than placing their trust in God. Millions believe in God, they believe He exists, but they do not place their trust in God.

Many place their trust in the wrong things.

  10. NO. 9, you are a headless chicken, wabe tole mukanwa stanyoko chickala chanoko. Why can,t you just keep that ass you call you mouth shut if you have nothing to offer on the blog.

  11. The PACT, please come up in open and tell the nation the truth about the PACT ideals because it seems you are going nowhere. Pleaes let us be serious with nation issues.

  12. After the announcement of 2011 election results, Michael Chilufya Sata will suffer a 2nd and fatal heart attack. RB will refuse to evacuate him to RSA because he’s ungrateful and has belittled previous such efforts. Viva HH 2016, Viva RB 2011…!

  13. Hey UPND, you need to be careful with what you are doing in Choma lest you lose that seat. The youngman you have expelled for no apparent reason will whitewash you in Choma and then you are done. Why expel someone for acknowledging a good did? That’s too mediocre and it has no place in Zambia’s politics.

  14. Problem is the fact that PF think they can beat MMD without UPND support. This pact should never have been announced until they were ready i.e all matters agreed. This way the focus and energies would have been concentrated on campaigns. Sata has to realise that like RB he has past his use by date and has tried once too many times to lead this country and has failed. Both Sata and RB have to step aside for the younger generation. Very selfish old guard when I was born back in the 70’s these faces were in politics, it’s now 2011 these faces are still in frontline politics. They should be ashamed, it’s just unfortunate that Zambians are all most always hoodwinked when it’s time for election.

  15. “But PF spokesperson Given Lubinda denied that PF had picked parliamentary candidates for all the constituencies.”

Mr. Lubinda I would be worried if I was you. It seems you are getting sidelined on everything. You are ever in the dark and was excluded on the alleged shadow cabinet. Are you sure you are still in good books with Mr. Sata who practically owns the PF??

  16. #11:
Do you realy understand the meaning of those scriptures you quoted? Your well intetioned and timed message is not only for PF kaponyas but also for you guys the MMD kaponyas, who put so much trust in Alabee and his team. The message from those scriptures is clear – no human effort will solve mankind’s problems, whether you like it or not, you vote or you dont, whether you insult (like some bloggers are doing) or not- the answers to numerous mankind’s problems lies in the hands of the most high.

  17. VIVA UPND…HH for President. Please Zambians, let us go for this young man and do things right for now. We cannot afford going on with the old guys either Ba Rupiah or Ba Sata. HH will look after all our grandparents including these two. What worries me is the greed for power by these old fellows. Please UPND don’t wait step up the campaign. I assure you, many have lost trust in Ba Sata over time. We knew Sata and PF would play tricks in the pact. Sata refused to go for a convention with HH where an equal number of voters would be drawn from both parties because members of PF wanted HH to be PACT president.

  18. hey LT check the local language insults trading here, guys bring out clear issues!!!!! too bad the PACT is stitch by stitch Disintergrating, am chocked with pain. i really would have loved to see these guys try it out this year!!!

  19. Cursed are y’ all putting your trust in man. Who told you that your poverty ends with a marriage of convenience two unpatriotic self seeking gluttons bluff about? The country has opportunities for every hardworking and ingenious person yet you are trapping yourselves in PACT insults and perpetual delusions when RB is leader of all.

  20. We are on the ground and we mean selling our manifesto to the people of Zambia. We do not want violence, no bad language, no rigging. As UPND we are known for uprightness, we value the lives of our people, the Zambians. We note with displeasure the PACT disolution just because our partners PF could not reason with us on pertinet developmental and democratic issues we raised. It is not about getting power from MMD but leading our people with love, humility, care, and respect for life. PF is far from accepting these criticle tenets of democracy. So PF has let people down who wanted the pact to work. We can still do it by kicking both PF and MMD out. Vote UPND….VIVA HH…HHHH

  21. # Senior Citizen and Mr. Capitalist – 3 E’s steering economic growth ,there is a story about corruption at ECZ we need your comments.

  22. Big Pipe, Big Pipe please tone down it is unlike you. Your contribution are always spot on. What has happened today? I understand there is a lot of frustrations with this directionless PACT but keep your composure and be yourself – the analyst and positive contributor. God bless you

  23. 24.
That’s why nobody listens to your garbage that you spew.
One day you use bible quotes and the next you use another I.D spewing curses at people.

Your idea of sinning must be cartoonish.
Spit at old ladies one day and help them across the road the next.
Maybe its your bi polar mentality.

One day that fat bloated man you praise daily will die and stink just like his previous boss.

  24. My heart bleeds heavily! Sata should humble himself instead of being misled by his vuvuzela, The Post. RB may have beat him by a narrow 35,000 votes in 2008 but alot has changed since then. PF have lost their foothold in Luapula, UPND has gained ground in North Western and most importantly, RB has delivered major infrastructure projects across rural Zambia. I genuinely believe HH tried his best to make this thing work (including putting his neck on the line). Mark my words, PF are in for the rudest shock of their lives later this yr when RB will be inaugurated for his 2nd and final term.

  25. It very sad that we lost the whole 2010 on a non issue ” PACT”, Sorry, it makes me really sad. IF only PF accepted the democratic principles injected in by UPND, the pact would carry the day come elections. But now, we have to pick up the spoils and move on. As UPND we are on the ground not in hired mass rallies anyway. It is time to educate our people on a one to one communication approach. We wish all our competitors well and a violent free election campaign period. Our message is “ZAMBIA FORWARD” with LOVE for ALL.

  26. @1 You spoke my words!!! It seems Sata or PF is to blame. pa last my fellow Zambians, lets just care about our own businesses or careers and ignore this political mess. when it comes to voting, just vote for whoever makes sense. otherwise spare your hearts and minds from following all these many so-called politicians. One day MMD, another PF, and back and forth. But a not traditionally UPND but HH is the best canditate for me. He just has to sell himself countrywide somehow. very difficult mission which leaves him with PF in the end as best ally. Unfortunately they are doing him. MMD is a bad option and will spell his dilution in the zamban political scene. what a bad year for Zambia.

  27. :((upnd/pf pact forget you *****s you are used to loosing i had hope things would get better but am deeply disappointed with you two sata power hungry hh and upnd tried to convience the pf *****s but let them hummer the sinking boat i will give you my support sata you have missed the train its over believe me after elections you will have a shock will lead to you having a stroke and heart attack forget pf you are disappointing party am really disappointed with the pact just call it quit dont hide you hypocrites you are adding 1000* sufferings to us youths !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  28. :((upnd/pf pact forget you *****s you are used to loosing i had hope things would get better .But am deeply disappointed with you two. Sata power hungry hh and upnd tried to convience the pf *****s but let them hummer the sinking boat. I will give you my support sata you have missed the train its over believe me after elections you will have a shock will lead to you having a stroke and heart attack forget pf you are disappointing party. Am really disappointed with the pact just call it quit dont hide you hypocrites you are adding 1000* sufferings to us youths !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  29. Finally, what i foresaw has come to pass.I feel for those who had invested their hopes wrongs despite it being evident that the Pact was a fallacy from the word go.In investment, supporters of the Pact will definitely qualify as high risk takers with naivety while conservative(moderate) investors are having the last laugh.lol

  30. NO VOTE from western province . No wonder even boot likaz like kaingu and mangani have principally abandöned MMD

  31. HH I salute you. You were a genuine partner in this Pact issue but unfortunately as was anticipated Sata is at it again. The old man cannot be trusted. He flip flops even at critical junctures. How i wished Sata could change and be the old man needed to be. He had a chance to tastes the presidency but alas he has lost it again. HH I know you understand Sata and wanted to deliver for the Zambian except you have been seriously let down by our grand father Mr M. Chifufya Sata. Never mind Zambians have seen what has happened and will respond accordingly. Because the votes for the opposition will be split again RB will take the presidency and come 2016 you in state house. A painful choice for Zambians indeed this year. God bless ZAMBIA.

  32. #40, a win is still guaranteed even if that were the case. I suppose Nkoyas will give 100% anyway. however, Western province has the least number of voters, so should not be a major headache for any serious national party.

  33. THIS IS THE NEWS WE BEEN WAITING FOR MU MMD! GO MOVE BA OPPOSITION PARTY, WE WILL INVITE YOU KU OUR CELEBRATION PARTY….HA HA HA HA WITAYA SATA NA HH

  34. Just been told that Chilufya means losing things…..could be the reason the old man is ever making as getting lost…….wapya munzi……ta. Go RB.

  35. about time they went there separate ways as we dont want this confusion in the pact to spill over into government if they were voted into power. RB offers stability and gives that feel that indeed we are ‘one zambia one nation’ unlike other politicians and kachepaper whose statements thrive on divisions and greed-more parcels of land in there name than the masses.

  36. I had said,, SATA can not be trusted.. How can somebody assumed to be chosen as pact presidential candidate do this to the zambian people. I hope UPND meant well in the pact not PF. Some of you were saying HH is forcing himself in the pact..!! HH wanted to insure pact wins whether he is the president or Vice president.!! But SATA is very unfortunately man decided to abandon pact which would have made him a president..!!! Sata must agree that he will not win these elections,!! He made a mistake of his life. We were called all names when we said SATA is not trusted..!! UPND has been very humble in all these nuisance from sata but time has come and they will not turn back. This is the way Tonga people are, they are humble but people sees this as thier dullness. When they turn, they mean it..!

  37. This is a big disappointment.i was hoping the pact could unseat mmd.nway all hope is nt lost.we the voters hav the last say.i say we vote 4 chipimo or hh or milupi.

  38. #42 and 45 Well said. It is high time people realised that W province is not made up of just Lozis. Even amongst the Lozis themselves, we dont really know if the majority of them support the genocide inclined secessionists.

  39. PF/UPND Pact scattered mindedness is confusing us on the grassroot level.
The only thing is that I have yet given up onyour coming to your ‘senses of working together wherever possible like you finally did in Kafue’.
Time is ticking and it not on your/our side [-(

  40. THIS MAKES SAD READING, WHY THE TWO PACT LEADERS LEAVE THE BALL GAME TO THESE THOUGHTLESS YOUTH. IF THIS REMAINS UNCHECKED THE OPPOSITION WILL GIVE RB AND HIS CORRUPT MINIONS SAIL THRU…. WAKEUP PACK AND BE REALISTIC THIS IS GABBAGE.

  41. # 55….meant to say
The only thing is that I have not yet given up onyour coming to your ‘senses of working together wherever possible like you finally did in Kafue’.
    # 56… with you!

  42. Atleast the dust is settling over the pact issue, though HH lost many friend due to sticking on to the pact. To be honest, these once beaten twice shy Tongas will never trust anyone who is Chiluba related like Sata because they are really not trusted. They voted for Chiluba in 1991 but the man proved to be a thief and since then they voed to be in the opposition for the sake of sanity. They almost trusted Sata over the pact but his behaviour has really put them off, this is really the last nail in the coffin of any Chiluba related party because everyone knows that pf is a sister to MMD.

  43. Even if we join forces to win the coming election without direction on what we are going to do for the people, it is not worth it. We do not want a GRZ of madiocre.

  44. RB will be cerebrating once more all bcz of the greediness of the PF. MMD crooks will soon clinch 27 years in power too-like UNIP-how sad, where is the multi-party democracy in our beloved country? UPND were honest about this PACT thing but Sata and his Kabimba have been very silly and stubborn. HH let them be because they have just blown their last chance of ruling this country. I voted for the vicious Cobra and its PF in the last elections but this year I will put my vote on HH bcz I am allergic to greediness. Go on HH, lets build the foundation for 2016 because PF will be in the state UNIP is currently in by then. 2011-Abash greed politicians!!

  45. What ever it is ,this just shows that our Politians are selfish, each one for hiself. So fellow zambians,Yes or No, MMD is wining 2011.I personaly suggested some time back that Pact is not the solution, what UPND and PF should have have done was to Dissolve their Political parties and form One Political Party, this time there wpould have sheavers in the MMD camp. It’s painful to waste your Vote.
Let both parties come in open and not to waste pipo’s time expecting nothing.

  46. Big Mama Says;
PACT or no PACT, Pipe of Zed, thing is that you choose quality. It is very clear, HH is quality. No body wants MMD again, ALABI, kuya bebele. Sata has blown his last chance to rule. He should have allowed HH to help him but he is selfish. Away with grand fathers, this is a vote for change. Viva HH

  47. #60, you read a comlementary story in the POST tittled ‘Sata challenges Rupiah to a live phone-in debate’. You will see that the above story is true.

  48. all you blaming SATA we know you wanted him to give HH the pact president on a silver plate, it can’t happen…WHEATHER PACT OR NO PACT COME RAIN COME SUNSHINE SATA IS WINNING…PABWATO

  49. you even go futher to make yourself feel good ati HH will win olo nimu 2016…stop cheating yourselves in 2006 he he was to the same we shall support in 2011 which is not the case again in 2016 we shall him that we need the pf/MMD to finnish its projects so come in 2021 this will on and on unstill no more!!!!!1

  50. Yaba..this is bad news indeed,MMD till 2016 its unbearable!Anyway thats want these two *****s HH and Satan wants.I wonder why pipo want to give themselves false hopes, its only a fool like Satan who cn think a single party cn dislodge the MMD.

  51. Sata should not think the masses that attend his rallies is how they vote . PF they think they are too popular this really sucks .

  52. Sata should not think the masses that attend his rallies is how they vote . PF they think they are too popular this really sucks .

  53. VIVA HH VIVA UPND FELLOW ZAMBIANS, NO ONE SHOULD TAKE US FOR GRANTED LIKE THE PF IS BEHAVING. PF WANTS TO HOLD ALL ZAMBIANS TO RANSOM, JUST BECAUSE THEY HAVE SOME MPS AND SOME POPULIST SUPPORT IN TOWN, WHICH IS TOTALLY WRONG. I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT PF WILL BE UNCONTROLLABLE IF. SOMEHOW, THEY CAME INTO POWER. PEOPLE MUST LEARN TO BE PRINCIPLED

  54. pompous old tweets, when are they going to learn basakala this greediness is very dangerous i shudder to think where were we going to be if comrade kaunda and his group were as stingy as sata and hh. i oso wonder how they will run the country if they form the pact and win???????????

  55. Why is lusaka times and other government media so biased in terms of reporting. Reading through the lines shows that these journalists are cowards who are given what to right after manipulating the truth. You cannot trust them in all the stories they tabulate to the public. To me journalists are wasting it all. They no longer represent what they are meant for at all costs. Its only the Post that tries a little bit no wonder its the only media that receives international awards for best news reporting in Zambia. The so called znbc is worse off a thing to listen to as the only news is about what the mmd has achieved than opposition. what rb has done more than sata or hh. For christ sake MMD should even be ashamed of themselves to always compare itself with opposition parties.

  56. People should just see what they have done instead of preaching how good they are than others. how can they say what has hh or sata done for this country? Is hh or sata the ones who are controlling the public funds of that country Zambia? Let not the people be misled in there dubious tricks, I feel change is inevitable for that poor country

  57. wel wel..too gud to be true-I thot so tho.UPND is likely to come out clean & this could ve been best opportunity for them but alas..these guys do not have good strategy to win support—-they are too honest in a wrong place.zambians do not know good governance at al.therefore, they go for who ever akes louder noise or jokes, bulling others in their campaign.

Simple strategy–UPND wake up from slumber and recruit campaign leaders with charisma country wide through district or provincial elections.run adverts/discussions on TV & daily bulletins on print media.LAST BUT NOT LEAST–denounce tribalism by seekingt o balance your party portifolio holders with other tribes and publish this organogram also let it be seen in campagns.

  58. The problem for pact is PF does not have any manifesto as such, they can not submit any to the negotiatition table. So UPND acknowledged this short comming of the SATA. They have also realised SATA has no programme to offer but to escort him to state house. HH tried his best to make sata understand, what is better for the country. At this point, there was no negotiation of the pact president even though, UPND knew SATA will be chosen because of his rumerical support base. Sata in all his campigns, he has not mentioned UPND accept when the two parties was announced pact .conditions was meant to tell sata that you have no knowledge to be president of zambia. And his lack of education will destroy this country, further down the line.!!! He made a mistake. Even PF is aware of this mistake

  59. #83 i like your name, not like those names we know when you introduce yourself to a girl she runs away.
    yajayolema pakamba

  60. What is democracy if PF and UPND can not compete in Parliamentary seats? Do we still want to have MPS and Councillors on CB who can not perform because PF is Popular. Popular must match with good performance people of Zambia and Copperbelt received poor service delivery fro PF.

  61. So ba kaponya, I hope that you now believe what we have been telling you about the so called Pact?
It was a non-starter from the time it was conceived. It did not need the MMD to destroy it because the very formation of the Pact was a bonus for them. Where are those guys with ridiculous kaponya terms like “donchi kubeba” etc?

  62. Rupia Banda may not be the best we have in Zambia, but he is a better presidential candidate than Sata and Hichilema combined. If i were to decide the next president, all by myself, Banda will be the man. This is my perspective, what is yours?

  63. VIVA UPND!!! We have time on our hands unlike PF that has an aging Sata. PF cannot win without UPND. Come 2016 there will be a less ambiguous PF leader. We can deal with 4 years of RB instead of Sata’s unreliability.

  64. Chanda Bwalya says:
i like your name, its makes you feel camfortable among people especially pali tu gelo.
not those name where one needs a lot energy to pronunce them, we all know them!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  65. ati HH still has time mu 2016 forget in 2016 we will have better candidates the likes of Milupi, Chipimo, Mutati, chirwa etc….HH will lose this year for the third time and we will forget about him in 2016 no time for losers!!!!!!!!!!!!

  66. aatti HH still has time mu 2016 forget in 2016 we will have better candidates the likes of Milupi, Chipimo, Mutati, chirwa etc….HH will lose this year for the third time and we will forget about him in 2016 no time for losers!!!!!!!!!!

  67. 92#, john phiri, you are unarguably most s-t-u-p-i-d person who has ever lived and possibly ever will be on earth. !!! chief of the kaponyas!!!!!! How I wish you had no access to the internet.

  68. VIVA HH, just abondon the pact with fools the pf. Those people do not reason the way some UPND top men, why intreracting with fools like sata

  69. Trust only in the almighty Lord we dont kno where we are going with the Majority still Wanting to Vote For Madalaz Open up guys! Meaning you dont trust Gentlemen or wat? Vote 4 HH atleast. MMD & PF are full of expired politicians please. Muleumfwa………..ba kaponya.
