Two suspected criminals were during the Easter period stoned to death by a mob in Lusaka’s Kanyama compound while the other three managed to escape.

The suspected criminals wanted to robe a house in Kanyama compound but the owner of a house who was alert switched on the alarm and the neighbors rushed to the house for rescue and managed to apprehend two criminals who later were stoned to death.

Zambia Police spokesperson Ndandula Siamana disclosed the development to ZANIS in a telephone interview in Lusaka today.

Ms. Siamana said the two suspected criminals were identified as Kelvin Muyambango and Kelvin Sindengwe both aged between 30 and 35 years and their bodies are still lying in the mortuary.

Ms. Siamana said the general public has the right to arrest but not to take the law in their own hands by taking away people’s lives.

She has appealed to the general public to only arrest and take the suspects to the police.

Ms. Siamana disclosed that the police have since launched an investigation over the same incident to ascertain who were involved in the killing.

And 60 more people have been arrested by the Zambia Police Service in connection with last week’s riots in Mansa.

Inspector General of police Francis Kabonde has appealed to Mansa residents who were involved in the looting to surrender themselves to police.

After the riots the police recovered goods worth billions of Kwacha.

And Mr. Kabonde says the police has since written to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for consent to prosecute the 280 that were earlier arrested.

  1. This is wrong. They should have been handed over to the police and not stoned to death. There is no Sharia Law in Zambia. This is very wrong. Mob Justice is wrong.

  2. Mr. Capitalist you are very correct, this matter should be police procedural protocol. This falls on the entire government to educate the not too wise masses. I mean entire as in MMD UPND PF and independents. Though it is safe to say the mob prevented innocent Zambian citizens from being robbed or even killed.

  3. Very unfortunate indeed. I just hope there wont be any hopeless and useless sexual comments aganist the picture of the police PRO. the comments in the previous editions have been very dissapointing

  4. And what do you expect people to do when the police seem not to be performing their tasks?Just the other day those ninjaz in black outfits in broad day light freely tried to rob the Kamwala businessman of Asian origin. Moreover, the prisons capacity has remained the same since independence no wonder prisoners are dying in jail. So,might as well elimate the criminals since society does not need them.

  5. @ No# 5 Juzz I was one last time that oogled at lady SIAMANA’s beauty, but alluded to her intelligences and wise disposition. She looks such as one that would make not only a good IG but also a great wise wife who is one with her husband. So forgive me for a woman that is strong compliments a strong young mind like myself to smile knowing string women still exist. Too many useless females exist today in generation Y and Z. So to see one of great prominence excites an intelligent mind.

  6. THESE CRIMINAL NEEDS THE THE DEATH PENALTY BECAUSE ZAMBIA POLICE DOES NOT PROTECT THE CITIZENS OF ZAMBIA ANYMORE AND MANY POLICE OFFICERS THEM SELVES ARE PART OF THE CRIMINALS. IT IS NOT RIGHT THAT THE PUBLIC TAKES THE LAW IN THERE HANDS BUT BECAUSE THE CURRENT SITUATION IN ZAMBIA TODAY THE PUBLIC ARE FORCED TO TAKE THE LAW IN THEIR OWN HANDS AND IT NOT ABOUT THE SHARIA LAW IN ZAMBIA.

  7. I’m not a sympathiser of mob justice but I think the neighborhood watch did a good job. Breaking into other people’s houses is clearly asking for trouble. Those two should have known that crime does not pay. Suppose the owner of the house had a gun and openned fire in self-defence, would he also have been arrested and charged with a crime?
Only curious because I have also been contemplating to get myself a firarm for self defense once I return to settle in Zambia. I can’t accept to be slain over property that I’ve worked for so hard.

  8. Job well done by the mob. These criminals like raping too and giving innocent peoplr HIV. I’d have joined in too in the stonning

  9. #11 Ba Chale, I don’t understand why you have finished like a soccer player. Buying a gun is same as buying ubwanga (witchcraft). Why do you plan to kill people for the sake of the wealth you have accumulated in Canada? You have umutima ububi sana, I now understand why you support RB & Kabonde.

    • You seem to have misunderstood my comment. I clearly stated that IF I ever obtain arms, it would ONLY be for the purpose of self defence. I know that there are some on this site who for some reasons don’t like me and will occasionally twist my comments to tarnish my image but I’m glad that the majority of people on LT are friendly and know exactly what I mean. I hope you belong to the latter group.

  10. Francis Kabonde why continue following people in their homes/ The riot is over, why arrest peaceful people, is this about “crimes against humanity”?

  11. i wish you people feel the anger i feel right now. Criminal/thieves, prostitutes and witches deserve no place on earth. i lost a computer with everythingthing on it, home theater, decodor, clothes… stolen 10am in the morning. Do you know wot we go throught to earn these valuables? I’m ordering a GUN rifle for that matter. fu88ck wot all yo’ think. Thieves needs to be killed. foget fu66cken popo. ain’t no help from mrRRther freaken popo. let me catch any iof these rasco’ you are dead

  12. #15 Where were you at 10:00 am, so much in the morning? Did they come with guns and that is why you allowed them to take all your stuff? Hammering a bazoka at a human being, for sake of electronics? Unless someone comes to take my tribal land, for sure such can die from lightening.
And what is wrong with prostitutes, tabakufulamina bwino or what? Witches never die from guns, you may try, I wish you lucky.

  13. No mercy for the criminals & the police should not charge the good samaritan neighbours. We have had enough of criminal activities in our communities. the police have failed to arrest the criminals. So let the neighbours do their mob justice.

  14. I support stoning coz our cops are so corrupt and dilly-dally. They way the thieves chose to steal is proportional to the way they were supposed to die.

  15. this goodnews atleast it sends a strong massage to would be offenders at least they will reduce in number lets take a leaf from countries like dubai they dont treat thieves wit with kids glvs nowonder there are no records of robberz.thieves only come to steal kill and destroy and y should we not kill them azwel.

  16. this is goodnews atleast it sends a strong massage to would be offenders. at least they will reduce in number, lets take a leaf from countries like dubai. they dont treat thieves wit with kids glvs nowonder there are no records of robberz.thieves only come to steal ,kill and destroy and y should we not kill them azwel.

  17. # 13
    Selako Ntambe:
Read Nine Chale’s (# 11) post again. You have deliberately twisted his words to justify your rants.

  18. You can only beside thieves if they have never store from you those robbers can even kill so i recommend the neigbours for the good work some of our nebors even if u shout they dont come out..so lets be united and kill all the thieves so that Zambia will be thieves free…

  19. If the police service was very effective in responding to peoples’s cry for help, in apprehending thieves/murderers and all sorts of human garbage, we wouldn’t see any mob killings. In short, people have no confidence in the police service and as a result they want to police their communities. I am not saying mob justice is good but we should be looking at the root cause of this scourge if we are to eradicate mob justice. The police need to double their efforts in terms of patrols. If we dont have enough cops around, the govt should recruit more, a safe environment is a good one for business. It wiil be a worthy investment for all, including those in power who think they will forever be there.

  20. Clear statement that ZP have failed, hence people taking the law in their own hands. Even if they hand them over to Police, they would be in the streets the following day. Let people learn, that stealing is turbo and should work hard.

Cut their hands to bring shame on them and will not steal again.

  21. I dont have kind words for the thieves, my 63 year old cousin died on new year’s day this year after he was attacked by thieves over a Zain celphone and about K35pin he had on him. Well done mob and may they rot in hell!!!!

  22. Though all human life is precious, but when you consider that criminals will not think twice nor hesitate to kill their victims or the police for that matter when confronted during their robberies it is no wonder that many do not sympathise with these guys who where stoned to death. It is for that reason that others like Chale above even think of owning a gun. It is not premeditation to kill another human or for the love of wordly possession that people do that but for seld defence. At times it comes down to your life or the life of the criminal. It does not help matters that the police are so unreliable

  23. Even if mob justice is bad, the ZP are incompetent and inefficient! We suffer so much at the Hands of these Criminals. Thieves have No mercy in their dealings, therefore Instant Mob Justice isnt Wrong! Well done alert neighbourhold watch…

  24. #26 how can you steal aomething that belongs to you? On the other hand buying a gun is ok. Because not only do these criminals steal electronics they also rape your wife and daughters..

  25. Instant justice is due to absence of real justice. With Chiluba walking about freely and other thugs in grz jobs relaxed, the ZP shooting innocent people practicing their democratic rights, so where are the innocent victims of crime going to run to for justice? Soon we will see the crimes of the MMD when they are out of office, and their crooked judges, so this is a start for a people led clean up.

  26. I understand people’s frustration with the police system, but vigilante crowds won’t solve it. Just look what happened in Mansa.Besides, what if these guys had been taking back property from someone who stole from them?THe crowd would never have known until after killing them. There is no justice in an irrational mob. And how is killing someone a fair punishment when they have only stolen from you? True, robbers can resort to violence, but not all of them do, many just run away. So, you can’t kill or judge someone for a crime they haven’t and probably won’t commit. It’s easy to see why. As far as personal citizens having guns, maybe a few kinds, but they should have to go through a long training first. The Zambian police can’t even handle having such weapons and that’s part of…

  27. And these suspected thieves were running away, so how is it self defense to stone them? @15, yes you’ve worked hard for what you have, but that doesn’t equal a human life. These people that are stealing have had very few options in life. Stealing may have been the wrong one, but there is no such thing as equal opportunities in Zambia.

  28. HeHeHEHEHEHEHE HAHAHAHAHA at least thy were not Bemba that proves a point to the lousy good for nothing tribalists on this blog who think any one who commits a crime is Bemba. If I was present at the scene I would have made sure huge plycards identifying where these Kawalalas hailed from ” Province and Tribe”

  29. I will be going back to Zed not with a GUN but a cross bow with poisoned arrows. This will ensure that the thief that tries to rob me will die a very painful agonising death. Might sound cruel, but I lost one of my best friends in a robbery. They hacked him to death with machetes and stole K50,000.
