LAP Green describes as baseless assertions that Zamtel was undervalued

Share

LAP Green Network Chairman Wafik Alshater has described as completely baseless accusations that Zamtel was undervalued at the point of sale.

Mr Alshater in an electronic statement released to QFM has also dismissed allegations of wrong-doing by LAP Green during the acquisition of the 75 percent stake in Zamtel.

Mr Alshater claimed that LAP Green followed due, facilitated by a consortium of internationally renowned professional service companies, including Standard Bank, Denton Wilde Sapte and KPMG South Africa.

He said that the open and competitive bid process was overseen by the Zambia Development Agency and included the direct involvement of the Attorney General and international legal advisers, Simmons and Simmons.

Mr Alshater added that the 75% stake sold to LAP Green in June 2010 for $257 million about K1.37 trillion constituted the highest amount ever paid for a privatized company in Zambia and was at the time one of the higher valuations for a telecoms asset in Africa

He said that Zamtel is a successful turnaround story and that LAP Green remains keen to cooperate with the Zambian government to ensure the continued growth and success of the company.

And Mr Alshater has accused the media in Zambia of subjecting LAP Green to a concerted campaign of misinformation.

He said that the willful misrepresentation of LAP Green has forced the company to explore legal options to protect its reputation.

  1. Chi Chairma Alshater, you are a chairman for companies in Libya and not Zambia. Why are you so much protective of Corruption which you even know that it stinks and the Zambian people will eventually take over? Marabishi ku Libya and not in Zambia bull-shit.

  2. Mr Alshater, what ever you call yourself, take the BOMA to court you will pay more after all you did even finish paying the money. Why wayamba kulira does it mean there more profit in Zambia that in Libya? Go, Go to your country and operate from there. WE DONT WANT YOU LEAVE OUR ZAMTEL FORM YOUR LIBTEL IN LIBYA. SHAME ON YOU AND MMD

  3. ‘Mr Alshater claimed that LAP Green followed due, facilitated by a consortium of internationally renowned professional service companies, including Standard Bank, Denton Wilde Sapte and KPMG South Africa.
He said that the open and competitive bid process was overseen by the Zambia Development Agency and included the direct involvement of the Attorney General and international legal advisers, Simmons and Simmons.’

This is what is missing in Sebastian Zulu’s one sided report.

    • Sharp Shooter, Malila lost his Attorney General position in the process and only then did this deal move forward. ZDA was a rubber stamp. The only ones who seemed to have followed due process were the foreign companies solicited and prodded by your Dora Siliya and RB bin. Read the report, and compare them with newspaper reports that were covering this fiasco at the time.

  4. Sata’s government is setting itself up for legal battles with investors. The battles will cast a dark light on this country and elevate the political risk of doing business in Zambia. Foreign Direct Investment will shrink. Mind you, Zambia is not a prime destination for plum investment. Investors come to Zambia because of the incentives the government provides. When you start grabbing privatized enterprise, you essentially conjure the ugly images of land-grabbing in Zimbabwe. That is not good for the country. Remember this is a continent that struggles to convey a positive image about itself. And Sata’s behavior sufficiently plays to the stereotypes.

    • Can’t compare with land grabbing issue in Zim. This is a specific case in point and GRZ has facts and tons of evidence that Zamtel sale was fraudulent, Zim land grabbing was at random without careful investigation of individual cases.
Investors who come to Zambia in a transparent and clean way should have nothing to fear!

    • Believer where is this evidence that is so overwhelming? Sata gave directions that the Zulu report should be made public and its nearly a week and that hasnt happened. So where have you seen this compelling evidence? If anything I agree with Deep Throat that this is very similar to Zimbabwe in the sense that the head of state is erratic and feels he has the right to grab property from the “rightful owners”. That is in inverted comas because as it stands we are seculating. What Sata or any concerned stateholder, should have done is follow due process and seek a judicial review. The international investing community will understand that and anything else will send shivers…especially after the grabbing of Finance Bank without following due process.

  5. Mr Zulu, the justice minister is a Kaponya. Zulu was busy hurrassing Dora Siliya without considering the views of other stakeholders. Shame

  6. Number 7. nothing belongs to you. Create your own wealth as an individual. The “ours” thing simply does not work in the current world environment.

    • F- off both of you.. in the same vain.. let lapgreen build their own infrastructure, network, cables fro9m scratch like MTN and Aitel did and leave a proper high value asset alone..

  7. Bloggers, argue with diginity, level of intellegency and reason. The chairperson has isued a statement, citing reputable international bodies involved. If you want to pin him, point at specific issues in the Zamtel report that show that the process was corrupt.

Emotional irruptions such ‘go back to your country….Its our country/zamtel’ do not hold water.
Now, let’s pin the chairperson intellectually, shall we?

  8. The privatization of Zamtel may have been flawed, but there is a better way to handle the issue. Meet with the new owners and discuss the issue quietly. Also, you don’t have to investigate everything that was privatized in the past. Move on. Look at the way other people govern. Obama inherited an economy that was mismanaged by George Bush, for instance. He did not start investigating the former president even when there was proof that the Iraq war actually enriched Bush, Dick Cheney and their buddies. When you go in government, you must have a plan. You don’t go there to settle scores. You may think you’re punishing your foes. In essence, it is the people you purport to represent who suffer. Reform, Mr Sata. 5years is way to long to let you continue in your current direction.

  9. Zambia never a dull moment
First it was fnb – finance bank
    Zamtel.
There is talk of Sun International former intercontinental Livingstone

  10. Chairman Wafik Alshater! Sorry, I read it as “Chairman wafika alesheta!” with some arrogance it seems! Tupoke fye Zamtel.

    • The lapgreen man can be arrogant because he is standing on extremely strong ground . . . lapgreen will reap a premium if these two fools – sata and his cousin the nsenga bootlicking *****- sebastian “saizi zulu” act like mafontini !

  11. When is this country going to have smart people in politics? Zambia is currently being held hostage by people who are totally not fit to govern. Wake up Zambians and reclaim your country.

  12. # 9 Mwinw mushi. I importune and agree to your sentments. The PF govt came up with a story as usual to excite Zambians. However, the parties alive to the Zamtel transaction as numerated by Lap Green chairman Wafik Alshater makes Zulu’s report childish and mocks the Zambian govt with impunity. He gathers enough audacity and put it to our face that assertions of Zamtel to have been undervalued as claimed by Zambia is wild allegations. To underpin that statement a list of well reputable international bodies which Zambia has no capacity to dispute their competence. Making noise in a seleleque wont help matters, we need to engange them on an intellectual platform to which cadreism has no place.

  13. At the end of the day, our credit rating will get degraded to C and suddenly we will fail to issue that huge EURO800m bond to support our consumer-oriented over-blown budget. Then we will start begging donors for money. Apparently, they prefer giving to Spain/Portugal/Greece/Ireland etc before they come to Africa bcoz these countries affect them directly. Zambians, think bigger.

  14. Mr Alshater please refer to COMMISSION OF INQUIRY INTO THE SALE OF ZAMTEL REPORT and read;

    Paragraph 3 . Section 3.1-3.3 VALUATION OF ZAMTEL ASSETS/BUSINESS
    Paragraph 4.  Section 4.1 – 4.4 ZAMTEL SALE
    Paragraph 6. Section 6.1 vi (a-e)

Honestly ask yourself Mr. Alshater if the Libyan people would agree to give their company under such conditions in the post Ghadiffi era. I don’t think you have read the report for you to call it “baseless accusations”.

  15. Atase, RB and Mutati think we are children? They are very stupid and need to be caned. Please, the whole country will not forgive you. You cannot sell a company at a negative value (ie- you pay more than you receive) especially when a report claims that the company will be worth $ 5bn in two years!

    • Spot on.. its preposterous that RB/Muatati sold a company their claim was at its death bed on to return to profitability with 1 year!!!!! ridiculous.. and ZAMTEL claimed to have done this simply by cost reduction… So much for the terminally ill story.. it simply means that there was nothing structurally wrong with ZMATEL at all.. We need to cage them

  16. Obviously the chairman has to say something. It’s not good for a leader to keep quiet when his camp is under attack. And when that leader speaks, they have to sound like they believe in what they are talking about. Chairman Alshater has given it a good shot. Unfortunately, he hasn’t had a look at Sebastians report. Those reputable organisations his quoting have very little or nothing to do with the glaring irregularities brought out in sebastian’s report.
Whether some of you like it or not, as a Zambian, Zamtel is OUR baby.

  17. Plz let these fraudsters shut-up, right from inception the whole transaction was full of suspicions, hence many Zambians resented. Government should immediately come up with a solution but as citizens we are resolute Zamtel must be returned. You buy a company at $257 and project that within 5 years it will be worth $5 billion, that is a clear indication it was undervalued.

  18. #10, deep throat, which reputable companies are u talking about? these boer companies? my foot. These are crooked companies whose aim is to make huge profits out of the poor african.wake up dull Zambians. What is wrong with us? For your info all these mentioned companies could have been dancing to the tune of Lapgreen just to make sure the contract is awarded to them.Come on people. dont be cheated. PF, please go ahead and grab Zamtel. and by the way the BIG question is who owns LAPGREEN now that the Gaddhaffi regime is gone? I am sure it is now owned by crooks.

  19. The one thing that people do not understand is that Gaddaffi did not own any company, but the Libyan people did. Libyans enjoyed their money from oil revenues but they did not have political “freedom,” “freedom” as defined by the west.

  20. ITS HIGH TIME THESE PEOPLE STOPPED INTIMIDATING US. I FEEL SO BAD AS THOUGH ITS A PERSONAL ISSUE WHICH CONCERNS ONLY ME!!!

“Mr Alshater added that the 75% stake sold to LAP Green in June 2010 for $257 million about K1.37 trillion constituted the highest amount ever paid for a privatized company in Zambia and was at the time one of the higher valuations for a telecoms asset in Africa.”

PEOPLE TO UNDERSTAND THIS STATEMENT. WHY DO WE HAVE TO BE INSULTED? WHY DID YOU GO FURTHER IN OBTAINING THE SHARES WHEN YOU FELT IT WAS TOO COSTLY. WHERE YOUR INTENTIONS TO AID OUR COUNTRY AS YOU PUT IT THAT IT WAS THE HIGHEST AMOUNT EVER PAID FOR A PRIVATIZED COMPANY IN ZAMBIA?
WAS RUPHIYA BANDA SO ANXIOUS TO GET THAT MONEY?
GOD HELP US, INTERVENE IN THIS OUR BURDEN!!!

  21. How can he be talking about taking the Government to court when they are failing to prosecute suspected Gadhaffi supporters languishing in their prisons due to an almost none existent legal system in his country? and if your parent company LAAICO has such high ethical business dealings how come you have alot of issues in your transactions refer to the Grand Regency Hotel in Kenya in which a repossession was being considered and a minister was even fired over even before Ghadaffi was killed. How are you even claiming turnaround when Zamtel is nowhere near making profits. ….Sir you also know that your holding company has had bad audit reports which have necessitated restructuring…Zambians OPEN YOUR EYES….show me a country where they have managed a turnaround…this is cheap PR

  22. @Kwekwe, it is not the repossession I have an issue with. It is the behavior of the establishment, led by Sata. This government can handle the issue better than this. Regarding Boer investment flooding Zambia, that is the same point I am raising. Zambia is currently not an attractive destination for plum investment. When openly and rancorously repossessing privatized enterprises, western investors group you together with countries like Somalia, Ethiopia and Zimbabwe. The result is you end up with crooked and low class investors like those who flood Zambia. That doesn’t benefit the country.

  23. If the PF government can’t honour the Zamtel deal, i would urge those that manage and assess risk  to downgrade zambia’s credit rating immediately until the country elects an educated head of state who will honour debt obligations.

  24. This statement together with the one made by Jere earlier today, throws the ball into the Governments hands…Act! send your army in to reposses Zamtel. I assume, in his actions Sata wanted to taste the waters..believing that Lap Green would buckle and hand the keys over like FNB did. In all honesty, Sata has has made too much noise over this issue with no action or significant evidence to back up the noise. Internationally reputed companies against PF Vuvuzela with a one sided pre-determined Sebastian Zulu report! What a joke…I am convinced that he (Sata) is simply a coward and like most cowards, he bullies others in order to gain popularity and on this one…it he will be exposed or Zambia is loosing out. Its one or the other.

    • Your hate for Sata has blinded you to the needs of Zambia. You talk of LAP Green as a reputable company: Who’s measure are you using? I can’t blame you. It is time you get over your bitterness for losing your MMD power connections. Those days of you ripping where you did not sow are gone. The sooner you realise that the better. Sata does not just talk. He opens his mouth when there is evidence of mulpractice. All the issues Sata talked about have not yet been vindicated. Talk about N. Mumba you spoke against Sata but look at the revalations now…you are quite. The fight on corruption has just begun. It is clean up time. I want Zamtel back. This is the pride of Zambia.

  25. Buying stolen property is a crime, there is no compansation, its like a conman crooking your out of your goods and then going sheepishly to him and start pleading.Zamtel deal was a fraud no matter what these political armchair critics may say,it has to be repossesed and readvertised if at all selling was even the option.Lapgreen can go to hell and invest in their oil wells in Libya and leave our assets alone.

  26. Its a shame to have a party in power which is supported by the un educated and failures who do not understand how poor thier country is. PF, its President, its supporters are all a bunch of buffoons. u very dull pipo, we need those investors more than they need us, you dont even understand that Zamtel sale is not like u sale a bicycle to a villager, it is a corporate sale that involves legal sales procedure. even if u repose it, its the Libians to lose, its us, we wil lose the money, we wil lose the investor trust and at the end of it all we wil even lose the progress the company has reached! Govenrmtn can not run a company! Ba fikala imwe, u u r just bootlicking u dont even know that the loss is ours! We wil pay more for Zamtel than it is worthy!

  27. zambians, kuti bakupoka nomukashi ulelolesha fye, ukupwalala bamaleka muleke. can you go out of zed and say things like that and u go scot free? its stupid people who have not travelled around who think what foreigners say is gospel truth. bambuli imwe wake up. zamtel was and is still a zambian owned company started by zambians and for zambians. if some one sold airtel i would not mind but selling your own bedroom belongings together with your wife and someone comes to put sense in your tuma pus clogged heads you start saying sata ni kaponya?

  28. Was ZAMTEL a stolen property? Too much barking in ZED. As a zambian I totally support this sale. Maybe govt should negotiate; that I support. Remember there’s what is called international law. Just form another parallel company to compete with ZAMTEL. After all you promised jobs. It appears you will be renovating intead of undertaking new contruction

  29. Sharpshooter,Deep Throat etc are spot on. I listened to Chibamba Kanyama on Mobi TV last week making similar arguments 1. that it was difficult to make an informed decision in the absence of submissions from the buyer (LAP Green) and others. 2. Where as Government had the authority to reverse the sale, it needed to separate a fraudulant process from the actual transaction, adding that Government was too focused on reversing the sale than on post-sale management of the company. He proposed for a negotiation and that LAP Green be asked to pay the shortfall in the event it was established the price was low. Let us not bungle this case out of emotion. We , as a nation, are actually on the losing side in the long term

  30. Lets wait and see how things will unfold. FNB of South Africa also issued similar threats over the sale of Finance Bank.

  31. If u can still believe in Satan then u r satanic indeed. Which one among all of u pf kaponyas ever OWNED or BENEFITED directly or indirectly from zamtel before it was partially 75% sold? Instead u and I lost so so much in sustaining the non-profit making company which was indirectly owned by a few directors who sent their children to schools overseas. Mulifikopo. Repossess Zamtel then what? U will still benefit nothing NOTO.

  32. Where is the Sebastian COI Report which HECMS authorised to be released to the public? I just read excerpts of it in the media

    • The COI Report is being EDITED to suite dull fools expectation. Sebastian zulu is in shit and GK is smilling — GK who was mentioned in the report as having being paid for zamtel consultancy. This is not true! GK has put an injuction on anyone publishing this false report. If it is be published in its current form, more money in GK’s pocket

  33. Being ruled by people whose brains were damaged by dagga smoking or kachusu drinking and other unforbidden acts …daga brain damaged sata, imbecile mmembe, bootlicking sellout seb saizi zulu, old bemba thug & witch chikwanda, kachasu imbibing kabwili, dull kapopa saladi gbm . . .sorry state indeed

  34. Do not let this ***** dare our President in our Country! Grab the company back which RB and his cronies sold for a cent! ZAMTEL belongs to Zambians! Period!

  35. kodi munthu achoke kwao ku libya..anyoze seo…yai baba. kwasu tikuti..’achaje sakonzeka..’ bulali fulu, demeti akawalala wezyani ndalama na kampani!

  36. zambia will bleed their money to death when LAPGREEN makes a legal suit.it will be like the swiss man in the gold scam.zambia simply curved in when they heard of a civil suit in U.Sand europe.the same will happen to lap green

  37. For those of you who havent read the report…can you kindly get a copy and make informed comments afterwards…
and why is it that Lap GreenN didnt use there LOGO here in Zambia like they have done in other countries…..Am sure it has to do with the dirty deals they got into with the corrupt MMD.

  38. People of Zambia, first read the report and comment. Most Zambians are the most foolish people i have ever come across. Read a report and ague according to report. First this guy will not agree that things are not okay. He will always defend his interest you also defend your interest.

  39. when all these investors takezambia to court then they will realise because they will not make a mistake of suing government in zambian courts because they suspectb faviour for the GRZ

  40. The Chairman of Lap Green is just issuing statements he does not believe in, i am sure courtesy of RP Advisor Peter Heilner. This is the same advice Heilner was giving RB, Dora, Pro Lungwangwa on how to respond to questions or issues considered uncomfortable. The truth is that the Zamtel report highlights glaring irregularities on the sale. And for those saying it is one side let us appeal to Dora, Situmbeko and Mutati to release the RP valuation report (which has grown legs). This is not a one sided report because where information was requested for and it was not given the Commission of Inquiry provides documentary evidence of what they wrote about e.g. email exchanges between RP and Simmons and Simmons (predetermined valuators and attorneys respectively) see p 28 of the Zamtel report.

  41. Zambia has never been at a point of people differing in a lot of national issues than now. This is normal for a nation on its way to development. However, when these different views are not handled carefully by those in authority be rest assured that no development will come the way of the nation. Sata and his team have an obligation to show leadership which is steadfast and ZAMTEL issue should be handled in a professional manner. Govt should increase its stake from 25% to 40% in the next two years untill they have 50 plus shares. Leave LAP Green as a partner. But if PF is tilted towards impressing the masses they are in for a shock, as the same masses will turn around whent he economy starts shrinking.

  42. # 34 if u can giv me ur email i can forward the report it has been circulating…. I wish LT had a provision for uploading documents…

  43. @#5 Deep Throat.. Be serious with life.. What is Libya.. Who is interested in an investor from Libya.. a sovereign investor from a war torn rebel led country for that matter.. The polital, religious and military nature of teh so called investor is enough to pull the plug… The EU, Austrailia or US would have done that a long time ago…If you really have any pride in you as a Zambian, as a father of Zmabian children who want to look up to you as a man with STEEL BALLS, you will not TOLERATE Alshater’s lack of tone, lack of respect and remorse for the Zambian people. he even has the balls to try and exchange words with our leader!!!!.. He would be hanged if this was the Libya.. For me .. That is enough to pull the plug.

    • Mr Digga, this emotional and childish thinking will not take you anywhere. Deep Throat’s argument is sound. Yes, the Zambian Government may have erred in the execution of the sale, but it would be totally out of order to punish would be investors, wherever they come from, because of Dora”s incompetency or corruption. Be careful, mate, because, trust me, it is the myopic people like you that will suffer in the end when investors shy away from Zambia. Incidentally, can you please explain who is to run the reposessed Zamtel seeing as MMD cadres had run the company down prior to its partial privatisation?

    • @ Bakulu.. The Libyans were warned by all Zambians at the time RB/GK were trying to push this transactions.. There were tribunals and Dora found gulty in this regards.. Zambians were said no.. BUT you libyan friends ignored public sentiment and soverign risk and criminally forged ahead after being given guantee by GK.. Forget Zmabians.. The just talk and will forget.. in business its call STRATEGIC Risk blunder. Any reputable multinational would have waited for POLITICAL RISK (which has no legal recourse as a sovereign country is law to itself) matters to be resolved before proceeding with the transaction especially concerns around the Dora’s criminal conduct in this regard as reputational risk and governace matters matters most.. Eg Standard Charetred Bank. simple.

    • @ bakulu… ZAMBIANS will run it and we always have.. Be serious.. You think the company will collapse if Hans Paulsen (MD), Adnan (CFO), ugandan technical manager leave.?? ata.. What is it that adnan (Pakistani) can do in Finance that zillion of trined finance people like me can fail to do in ZAMTEL… putting together trial balance, reporting , cost management, funding , business planning etc atase.. have confidence and pride in your own abilitties, education and skills as zambians.. You think Korea, China and Hongkong would have got where they are if they had no confidence and asked such silly, treasonable questions.. Zmabians are doing great things in other countries in Telecomms enginerring. teyh would be offered the job!

  44. ”And Mr Alshater has accused the media in Zambia of subjecting LAP Green to a concerted campaign of misinformation”…………….true to that. The Post newspaper is pushing its own agenda while masquarading as investigative thrash journalism while gullible characters believe the deception.

  45. Followed the DUE WHAT? Which was facilitated by who? These Libyans think they are so smart and they can get away with this. Let them yap all they want, the fact remains that Zamtel belongs to Zambians, if any of the former leaders got their cuts, Mr. Alister should demand his money immediately before its too late. Being poor is not synonymous with being foolish. If they think that they can come to Zambia with their dirty money and bribe their way in buying a prestigious company like Zamtel, then their in for a rude shockThe indigenous Zambian has taken over the running of the country, not a foreigner RB. Its pay back time.

  46. FNB didnt invest at al in Finnce Bank, Lapgreen has invested Billions of Kwachas in the company, so even if we repose,we shud understand that them Lapgreen guys are in business and they wil do all it takes to make a profit from the reversal! there are legal documents supporting the sale, even if u Nationalise, i can assure u that if Lapgreen bot Zamtel at $300, 000, 000 US ZAmbian Governmet wil get it back after paying the Libians thrice or twice the amount! The money we wil pay the Libians wen we repose Zamtel cud go to invest in other sectors of the economy which wud create the much needed emplyment!
The best is to negotiate not reposes! Government cant run a Corporation or any company!

  47. @5 Deep Throat @6 ZAMBIAN: Wonder you are not Zambians?? What is it that this silly Alshater wrote to impress you? In Arab countries no such deal would be tolerated. Of course all other consulting Companies mentioned including KPMG and standard bank are in business, they were just spectators and would not be against MMD corrupt government then. WHY KPMG SA?? We don’t have KPMG in Zambia???
Like them go back to LIBYA ZAMTEL BELOW TO ZAMBIANS the will not get it. All illegally privatized companies should be grabbed back from this ARROGANT s.t.u.pid chaiman. NOTHING LESS FOR ZAMBIANS.

  48. Now who are these Zambian wants to buy Zamtel. My advice is let them buy it from Lapgreen.Zambian we always want to believe whatever this Government says. There is need to balance up issues. When two elephannts fught it is the grass which suffers. At the end it is zambian who will regret again.Discuss the matter with Lapgreen and presecute if there was fraud in the transaction not to get it.If the money was litle tell them to add more after an indipendent evaluator has evaluted the present Zamtel and Zamtel in the past.Records are there.

  49. @No 31 What millions did the Libyas bring when GRZ paid $ 334 for 25% shares and Lapgreen paid $ 257 for 75%, paying more for less and less for gain. How can you sell something and end up being in debt to the buyer? This is a paradox!
Lapgreen did not meet the 3 prequalification criteria. We are getting Zamtel because even the UN resolution and sanctions were contravened so what money is Zambia going to lose? Pipo read the CoI report and if not satisfied ask Dora to give you the RP Valuation report (if she can bcoz it has grown legs) ke ke ke.

  50. There are bolggers here who are saying Zamtel must be repossessed because the report by the Zulu commission of enquiry exposes glaring anomalies in its sale to Lapgreen. What we are forgeting is that the commission did not invite Lapgreen to give their side of the story during its sittings. One wonders whether we can call this a balanced report. I think we need to be very level headed as we debate this issue. Much as government is claiming otherwise, lets demand to hear what the otherside has to say. What is their story? This will help us understand the implications of the reversal of the sale.

  51. @42 Gadaffi: Spot on!!!! FOOOLISH Zambians, download the Report on the main page, read before you make baseless comments. It is really saddening to see how educated Zambians on this blog are so shallow minded, Lack sense of patriotism for their Country and would allow things to slip off their hands.
Grow up and have love for your Country. Instead of being part of a Problem (Corruption) be a solution and Move your Country Forward.

  52. This zamtel of YOURS will work for another five years in repaying lap green if you reposes that thing. Not forgetting time in courts. Meanwhile it might no be yours until the courts decides.
ZESCO is yours but your bills are higher than where they export while the rivers are yours.

    • Which courts? and under whcih jurisdiction.. Dont you you know a Country is sovereign and cannot be sued as it si law to itself? Where are LAP going to go? Who can try Zmabia?

  53. If this government did its Cost vs Benefit analysis on repossession of ZAMTEL, I doubt they would be championing such a move. Surely, there must be more pressing issues in Zambia to engage the President directly day-in & day-out, not a small company issue. Great learders put interests of the country first. In this case, an open confrontation with this small comapny can have far much greater damage on Zambia as a whole than on itself (who is LAPGREEN in the world compared to the nation of Zambia?). Why not appoint a small group of experts to review the sale & negotiate for a better deal quietly & move on. In any case nationalization is out of fashion these days. Look at the mines we ran to the ground & yet they are making huge money under proper management.

  54. For all the fools trying to defend LAP Green on this board.

The Banda government went $77 million into debt with the Chinese government, money they gave to LAP Green.

LAP GREEN, get this, *PAID NOTHING* FOR ZAMTEL.

If anything, it is the Zambian government that should prosecute LAP Green to get it’s $77 million back.

  55. guys why was the contract awarded under so much duress, this ZAMTEL sale leaves much to be desired. Lets debate objectively even as we comment on the report.

  56. Most Zambians supporting foreigners to possess Zambian assets are sick and are not worth to be citizens of Zambia. They are immature and mentally warped. Foreigners are not in Zambia to make the country any better than it is. They in there to make a killing over your poverty. When are you people going to ggrow up and be responsible citizens of our country? This is why some of do not think coming back is a smart move becuase we would surrounded by useless human beings, always rubbishing their country for foreigners. Sick people like these are not worth count for a vote.

  57. Ony uneducated people and Bantustan people would not support the repossessing our Zamtel. It’s very clear the company was sold on song.we need our company back.Corruption is corruption everywhe.

  58. A hot topic being spoilt by the so-called interllectuals hell bent on scoring for HH.
Now that zamtel bank accounts have been frozen, what is your interllectual comment.
Pantu ifwe ngati tulandeko, ati tamwasoma ukwishiba international relations nefyo credit rating ipela inshima kuli say italy.
Yet aba soma ba RB, MUTATI, SITOMBEKO, GK, LIATO, DORA, they were just stealing.
Limbi umututu munensu kuti atusungila ama pesa bwino.
    So just shut up!

  59. Every one seems to be debating sensibly, then some *****ic arse hole brings in the unrelated issue of tribe…..what a ****@+

  60. It appears in effect LAP Green do not care about anything. I think that Zamtel would have been sold by LAP Green immediately it became worth $ 5bn.
As for the telephone bills government owed Zamtel worth $ 7m that dramatically scaled down to $ 100,000, let me tell you what I think, I think RB and company wanted a legal way to make government pay money to their accounts. I doubt LAP Green received any money in effect. LAP Green was looking at the larger picture of selling the company in two years. Even the $ 344m that government owed, I think it would have gone to private accounts. LAP Green paid $ 244 just to make the transaction appear genuine.

  61. This is very interesting indeed, this Wafik claims the team of experts included the Arttoney General and yet we all know Arttoney General Malila described this deal as being a NULLITY!
