United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema has charged that President Michael Sata’s lack of consultation is resulting in the country losing direction.

Mr. Hichilema says President Sata has continued to make grave mistakes in the governance of the country due to failure to consult.

He says as a leader who is entrusted with the leadership of the country, he is mandated to consult on most policy decisions being made by government.

Speaking on Radio Phoenix’s Let the People Talk this morning monitored by QFM, Mr. Hichilema has accused the republican president of abusing his powers.

He says it is shocking to see how President Sata could make the decision to realign districts in southern province without formal consultations.

Mr. Hichilema says the president is leading the country as if he assumed power through a non-democratic process.

And Mr. Hichilema says government should take its time before it implements the rebasing of the Kwacha.

He says a country like Zambia cannot afford to print the new currency as it has huge negative consequences on the kwacha.

  1. Why does HH suddenly wants to be consulted? Is southern province the only affected by re-alignment. Does he believe he owns southern? My kids are under five yrs so I do not consult them. I will start consulting my kids when the grow up.

  2. In my opinion I agree with HH, Mr. Sata is runninig Zambia like it is a backyard garden. or headmaster at a primary school. Bloggers always shout down HH but I see a lot of sense in what he articulates. Is it wrong to ask the president to consult all stakeholders before making a decision? Is it really a priority that we print new currency in the midst of other needy areas. HH is a true Zambian with the welfare of Zambia close to his heart. The Post has also ask Mr. Sata to consult since those that oppose HH at every turn use the Post as the barometer of the Zambian people perceptions. HH I support you on this point. The lack of consultation is creating tension in the country

  3. That is valid advice HH continue telling the presido so that he comes 2 reality, really why engage in un budgeted 4 ventures lyk creation of new districts .expansion of embassies ,unneccesarry C.O.I.s n indeed the useless debasing of kwacha all in the name of creating jobs 4 cadres.speak on man!

  4. HH, Why mobilise Southern Province chiefs against government on the improving administration of areas in the country? Don’t tell us that chief Mwanachingwala is lying to the nation and that you are better at telling the truth.

HH, your mission is clearly the same as that of the Republican party in US which has vowed to make Obama a one term President no matter what good Obama is capable of delivering to the people of the US. HH, you are very unprogressive. Tribalism will not move Zambia forward. You have destroyed Sejane in the process.

  5. The fact that HH is not consulted doesn’t mean there is no consultation.HH is a bitter man talks without facts.Nway he is and will never be an option Chipimo Milupi are the main contenders.

  6. Sata is dividing the people of Zambia with his unilateral ideas. Zambians have worked many years to unite and it is a shame to see selfish politicians undermining the unity. Wars have been fought in neighbouring countries due to land and the social, economic and political exclusion of individuals and communities. Such decisions which aim for an immediate benefit to one party will end up costing the country a lot in the long term. I guess this Sata is the same man that one day ordered the bulldozing of houses in John lang. he has not changed. What a mess!!

  7. Consultation, what? Look at the national constitution commission how long have consultations taken? At what costs have these consultations being done? George Kunda and his minions benefited a great deal in consultaions. The money they spent could have done a lot in improving the lives of the people in Lusaka’s shanty compound, let alone so many areas of Zambia. They spent so much just pushing papers. These paper tigers ended up spending so much and as I write others are still eating government and donor funds! Is this the same consultation you want to come to reorganisation of districts for operational purposes? To hell with your still standing reasoning. Lets move on, re-organize, distribute resources equally, empower the local, ignite their creativity, more development in all areas.

    • So, let me get this..you are saying to hell with consultation and let Sata make unilateral decisions on behalf of all Zambians? Sounds a lot like a dictatorship to me!

  8. Consultation is not only relative to HH,but all concerned stakeholders.HH has scored on this one and should be supported and encouraged to continue helping government like this.Zambia is our only country which is infact a democracy and every one of us should be part of governance.Undoing decisions after they have been done and publicised is costly in anumber of ways.So let’s leave politics for once and help bring sanity to this nation through a broad based consultative process

  9. #10 Zambians in Msanzala were consulted by the political parties and they said what they want. Sata consulted us on decentralising government during his campaigns and we spoke. My worry again is Sata created Muchinga and HH said nothing. When Sata touch southern province HH cried too loud. Is HH the President of southern province or HH is just being as tribalistic. HH runs a regional tribal party and so he does not need any support and consultation from the rest .

  10. HH is right, consultation is important in certain matters like the one under discussion. But why did he not say the same thing when Muchinga province was created?Insteady he said the PF wants to take more resources to Northern province.Which one is bigger a district or a procince? Its shameful to think that there are people who dont understand the difference between administrative boundaries and chiefdoms. For God’s sake the chiefs and their people WILL NOT MOVE! Its only district administration that will move period!!

  11. HH is a really biter man and when thing does not work as he wishes he can be dangerous as a president. when it comes on tribal inclination is not even ashamed to stand on that.is really a danger to unit of the country

  12. No. 15, Are you sure HH said nothing or you are just brain washed by pro-government media, which also include the post. Some of us have always been againts unbudgeted and unconsulted decisions by Pf. if you see nothing wrong with that wait till we get a budget overrun, or maybe you wont know about it as you choose to read the unprofessional newspapers.

  13. I feel so sorry for this poor young soul. He never stops dreaming. Consultations…what consultations? Does he want the entire president to consult with him a political failure, yet? Of course he consults with his inner circle of legitimately elected, educated well enlightened advisors. PF has only been in 4 and half months and some things are shaking in the right places. Very honestly, I still don’t see posibilities of this dull businessman making it in 2016 even without Sata standing. Mmmm, I just wonder whom he conned to get his money. I really, really wonder.

  14. kci- HH opposed Muchinga vehemently. Maybe you were still celebrating Dont kubeba. HH you are right. Keep talking. even if you dont go to state house, it doesnt matter. at least you are keeping PF asses sit upright

  15. WERE RE OUR ECONOMISTS IMWE?
I JUST WANT TO COMMENT ON THE ONLY WORD THEY KNOW “INFLATION”, WHEN MINERS REQUEST FOR ONLY K500,000=00 SALARY INCREAMENT OUR DULL ECONOMISTS ARE ALWAYS IN THE FOREFRONT TALKING SHIT THAT THERE WILL BE “INFLATION” IN THE COUNTRY.
NOW HOW MUCH MONEY WILL IN CIRCULATION NOW THAT OUR NATION TEAM WILL BE GIVEN K300 MILLION EACH PLUS MONEY FROM THE TROPHY & THESE OTHER COMPANIES & WELL WISHERS WILLING TO DONATE THEM MONEY? OBVIOUSLY MORE MONEY THAN THE INCREAMENT ALL THE MINERS CAN BE GIVEN, SHAME ON OUR FAKE ECONOMISTS!!!!!

  16. ha ha ha ha. Just because he did not consult HH does not mean he did not consult.
HH has now heard that Sata will not seek re election in 2016 and has realised he snookered himself by making a deal with MMD to pull out of the PF-UPND pact. what a pity

  17. HH is NOT even the major opposition. In fact Government needs to consult the Chiefs in Southern Province, which has been done. Now that the Chiefs have sided with Government, HH will be heavily shamed. Your lack of maturity, and people-sense will cost you votes HH. Grow up and stop your bitterness towards our Government. By the way the current Government has a blessing. SInce they took over we have won the COSAFA Cup and African Cup of nations!!!

  18. HH your claiming that MCS lack consultation Did you consult the Chief yourself. And you claim you read the Post newspaper you have no interest because they write hate. Do you think about Zambia watch dog it also writes bad things about the Government and MCS. You instruct them to write bad things. Your speech shows you go to the studio with bitter heart because you have lost in Msazala with your new marriage with MMD. My advise Dont at the studio a wounded man what are you going to speak. Only Ma rubbish. Start reading post you miss a lot. NO PRESIDENT FOR YOU UNTIL 2021, CHILDISH

  19. As much as we hate HH and would never vote for him, we should always be open-minded when it comes to the way our country is being governed otherwise we will be the ones to cry. Lets not just support the president just for the sake of it; good governace is what we expect from him. People we are in a democracy and not a kingdom. And if PF’s policies have to yield positive results people have to be engaged in these processes.

  20. HH is right the president needs to consult on policy issues. You will be amazed that some of his cabinet ministers are never consulted and are complaining secretly. HH has a valid point whether we hate him or not the truth is Sata needs to consult on policy issues. You can imagine a president who makes decrees without consulting stakeholders and some of his announcements have a cost implication. The minister of finance is real under pressure to sort out some policy pronouncements which are not budgeted for.
You can imagine the president is addressing a polical rally in Petauke then all of a sudden he says Sinda is new district. You ask the minister under local government she is shocked to learn. The finance of finance is equally caught off guard.Leadership is about consultation.

  21. @22 the chiefs have not sided government the chiefs are also complaining of not being consulted. Mwanachingwala is not a chief..and if government thinks chiefs have agreed because of mwanachingwala government will be shocked. The bottom line is that consultation is critical..It is a well known fact that Miles has been global trotting looking for chiefs to convince together with Fred Mmembe…Bight Nalubamba a pro PF has said NO.Please leave UPND and HH out of this issue. It is the people who have rejected this nosense. People are looking for job creation by PF and not this *****ic approach to issues. Can someone tell me how many jobs have been created by PF. What developmental issues have they put accross. We all voted for PF to reduce poverty and NOT talk.,talk NO ACTIONS.

  22. Pipo answer this question ; The people of Chinsali, Mpika, Isoka, Nakonde, Chama among them are not complaining about being moved from Northern province to Muchinga. Why is it an issue in Southern Province?

  23. I am a bit confused on this issue.Who needs to consult who and on what issues?Secondly even if they are consulted, what difference would that make?I am not making fun of anyone but just trying to get the gist.

  24. Number 30 they are not complaining because a new province has been created and funds allocated for that purpose.southerners did not complain when provincial capital was moved to choma, but the grabing of land from the province without finding out the link between ITT and Namwala when it comes to beef production in zambia

  25. HH is right. Every politicallly neutral person can see sense in what he is saying. We have already seen the many blunders Sata has made already e.g 100% salary increase for health workers, the fake ZMK which Mr Chikwanda was tasked about by Parliament, The gold scandle, etc etc etc.

We are a descent country so we should endeavour to do things in a proper way to avoid emarrassments and costly mistakes.

  26. But he is the president he can only consult with his friends if he doesnt deliver it will be your chance just watch now

  27. The fight for Southern Province is uranium, border crossings,Electricity and Food security. The fight started with the colonials whites now its brother on brother. You cant marginalize a people and when the cry foul you hide behind claims that we are all Zambian this is unjust. In a Democracy you consult the people then you have consensus, SATA does not have a monopoly on knowledge nor does he sit with the Gods to determine the future of a people to suit his ego and the will of his despotic regime.

  28. So every decision the president has to make He must consult/ask HH or the opposition like : “HH or N.Mumba i want to do so and so, must I go ahead and do it, what do you think? I am consulting because…”. Come on! Which country does a president do that? Or whi will be ruling then Sata jointly HH and N Mumba? Pathetic, let them win and then they will rule NOT like that. George Bush declared war on Iraq, who did he consult. Sata appointed Malama as IG and when he removes him someone says ” you should have consulted” all because IG malama was of benefit to THEM personally that is the reason they give. ahahahah so-called “politicians” of this great nation are really all UNDER 5 except HE MCS

  29. I still maintain that we need the opposition to scrutinise decisions made by the government. Right from the beginning, I have welcomed observations from the opposition as they help steer the ruling government in the right direction. Unfortunately, some people on this forum always attack HH and label him incompetent to be president. There is no need to do so, all he says is beneficial to you and I in the medium to long term. He may not be wise, but he talsk sense.

  30. H.H is the only one who seems to have lost direction here. The entire nation is celebrating while he rants and revs. Last time he came in third, come 2016 he will be dead last.

  31. The one who lacks direction is HH himself . He should have by now been vice president, but for his own arrogance. Now he wants to talk about direction? This is just bitterness and crying over spilt milk.

  32. He is still talking about the same consultation over and over especially that it involves his Province.HH is having a field day. This is a big opportunity for him to be heard, not knowing that Zambians are reading between the line. They can now see how this guy is biased towards his province only. It seems he has no advisers.

  33. people Zambia regardless of which tribe you come from heed with HH’s advice and start to take his opposition to govt serious. it is for the benefit of all including those that don’t speak the same language as he. Sata’s blunders wont only affect those that don’t share dialect with him but even those that eat with him from the same plate everyday.
You can see but you cant understand and you can hear but cant listen. Continue attacking HH at your own peril.
Please President HH continue what you are doing as it is for the benefit of the needy and the country at large.

  34. when districts are realigned elsewhere, HH keeps mum. When southern province is affected, he speaks out. A NATIONAL LEADER INDEED!

  35. Empty vessels make the most noise. Instead of making noise why not field candidates for bye-elections? The man is becoming more irrelevant by the hour

  36. @Ice_Road_Trucker
so you are saying ba PF we are technologically advanced? nomba ninshi ala!!! tell ba bululu bobe ati technology yalisela . mwanyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  37. Please Brainwashed guys, HH does not mean the PF government has to consult him, no. What is he is saying is that people affected should be consulted to consent, period. Mwanawasa use to make good decisions by consulting the local people people and enganging them in governance, even if he was not consulting Mazoka. At times let us be neutral in terms of politics, because throwing everything on HH that he is bitter will not make our poor decisions better but instead make him popular by the day. Sata here made a huge mistake which many are bitter and is likely to be reversed the way Zamtel was done as soon as he leaves power, because procedure was not done. In a democracy you do not just wake up to make decisions because the same would affect you the following morning.

  38. I am PF but I feel HH is 100% right on this. There are many districts which were formed during the Chiluba era where Sata himself was number 3 and by then Ben Mwiinga was minister of local government. Such districts include, Kazungula, Mufumbwe, Masaiti, Shang’ombo, Nakonde etc but to date most of them have no administration centres, not even structures to be identified as districts operating on their own. Therefore the best Sata could have done was to build administration centres and municipal councils in these districts they formed with Chiluba, thats when many could have seen sense in coming up with more, but as things stand, pronouncements only do not make a difference. Adding another district to Lusaka with the Chawama floods needing attention does not make sense at all.

  39. they say wise people are those who can listen, we should also learn to take criticism and advise in a neutra way, no matter where it is coming from, because at the end of the day it will be the government of the day which will be praised for listening to the voiceless. Mwanawasa did this and he won the trust and love of people. Dwelling on throwing mud at HH whenever we make wrong decisions will not take us anywhere, but destroy the little trust certain people in those areas had invested in us. As a party we should aim to bring more people to the party than discouraging them. Let us embrace every tribe by recognising who they are in the country and accepting them, marginalising them in a divide and rule strategy will not work, because they are likely to hate us more.

  40. HH what solutions do you have to opposing the re-aligning of areas for administration purposes. Find us the best solution to serve those areas effective and on time.

  41. We apprecaite what HH is saying as in so doing he his giving them good ideas on leadership qualities.Next point HH we work on it

  42. Great shot bwana HH.I admire yr wisdom sir.Tel this Chap Micheal Satan and his blind supporters tat u dont just get it easily in Southern Province.!!! Chama Nakande Isoka, watever u call these impoverished districts were given away easily coz they ar not of any ECONOMIC FACTOR to reckon with let alone the miserly..! ! Its like giving yr daughter (former prostitute) in exchange for chicken..WAT A SHAME….! Southerners wil fight for their til last drop of blood.!
