Reports of 4% Salary increment for public service workers untrue-Shamenda

Minister Fackson Shamenda

GOVERNMENT said it will stay clear of the on-going collective bargaining for improved salaries and conditions of service for public service workers.

Minister of Information, Broadcasting and Labour Fackson Shamenda says it is sad that some people have already started speculating that Government has awarded a four percent salary hike to workers when negotiations for improved conditions of service have not yet been concluded.

Mr Shamenda said this in Lusaka on Thursday night when he launched the International Labour Organisation (ILO) law growth nexus II project, aimed at promoting decent work and creating more job opportunities in the country.

He said Government has started working out modalities to improve conditions of service for public service workers to promote industrial harmony in the country.

“We have heard people saying we have awarded a four percent salary increment to our workers. This is not true because we have not yet concluded the bargaining process with public service unions.

“Our workers should know that the period for negotiations for improved conditions of service has not yet come to an end. Therefore, we still have some time to agree with unions, on ideas which can improve conditions of service for our workers,” Mr Shamenda said.

He said the Patriotic Front (PF) government attaches great importance to improving the welfare of workers in the country and will continue looking for ways and means of improving living standards in the country.

Mr Shamenda also said Government has realised the urgent need to create more job opportunities.

He said while the country has registered substantial economic growth in recent times, arising mainly from the high copper prices on the world market, little of the economic growth has trickled down to ordinary people, especially youths in the townships and villages.

“The PF government is redressing this scenario, in line with the vision and aspirations enshrined in the party manifesto and other national policy documents on employment creation,” Mr Shamenda said.

He commended ILO for coming up with the project which will help to complement Government efforts to create decent employment in small and medium-scale enterprises.

And ILO country representative Martin Clemensson said the law growth nexus II project, to be implemented as a pilot project in Zambia and Kenya, will create more job opportunities in the construction sector.

  1. PF leaders should start learing Philosophy……..for them to start reasoning well…i always ask myself  why i don’t think abt zambia, and why i can’t come back to zambia …the answer is simple…because of a un educated president and dull ministers that is the reason why…..even marring a zambian gal this time its becoming sily she can sing a song of don’t kubeba,,,,a popular  song for crooks
     thank

    • @ MIZ,i doubt if you are really outside Zambia bkoz those who hav left the country hav brains. How dare you insult our women? Where ever you are, ilitole sana, panyo pako.

  2. These guys are just liers and deceivers. They keep on changing goal posts. Today this- tomorrow that and the crap continues. This is the same mouth that said,”… we (PF government) cannot go beyond 4% salary increments for all civil servants.” This government is full of lunatics. I end here!

  3. this the program with this government kabwili once said that he had his ministry re-alinged so shamenda be careful with what you are saying or else

  4. Poor Losers. Last week there was an instruction to Mr Chibiliti that only 4% today 4% is untrue. Why do u keep changing positions. Is it tasting waters before u make a final decision (Chiluba style). PF are nothing but shit stainsin a school toilet.

  5. Shamenda is a good trade unionist. Understands labour procedures well. Its a pity in the haste of doing things he was moved at first from the job but then Sata realised that he made a mistake and gave him back the ministry. No what the PF should do is keep clear and Shamenda will deliver a good job. But if cadres interfer with his work the result will be gabbage.

    • K100,000 is the difference!  That is more money in a kaponya pocket that was not there before.  What is your problem?  Did you believe the 100% salary increment lie just like the other people who believed the 90-day lie?  There are no miracles in life and if you hear of one, know that there is a false prophet at work.

  6. These liars will never cease to amaze its this 2day, 2moro no we didnt say this. Increase the salaries resoanably otherwise hh will feast on ur fake promise

  7. Some one is telling lies here, either the media or the politicians. If it is the politicians, then Zambia is in for rude shock. Whether you are an PF sympathizer or not if you’re a well meaning Zambian and have an analytical mind you can tell that we have not found the direction for our country. WHERE ARE WE GOING?

  8. Pray for peace all politicians are liars. HH ??!!?????? Cant be our saviour, 4% for civil servants ? Better not to award coz that is K40pin for most govt workers.

    • You are the only id!ot who still has hope in PF.  Is S@ta your uncle?  If so just “loose” your hope a bit, while everybody lose their hope.

  9. The don’t kubeba slogan has a wider meaning philosopically. Politicians will use the same slogan to exploit the poor Zambian kabili ni don’t kubeba nabapwalala ulelya indalama.

  10. I think when this man shaves his beards he will think clean and straight..for now he’s so dirty in his minds and can’t remembered what they do..hes’ got fog in his brains..4% is what you said would be given by Secretary to the treasury..the memo by Yamba is there!

  11. what a Government!!!! i am sure now these people are seeing reality at first they thot it will be easy for them like Chiluba once thought now that they are in S/H they are seeing the realities of Governing

  12. if am not mistaken people complained about the 4% increament that it didnt make any diference.the president recieved the complaints and has acted on it,its you the same people who are the governmen to look like it has no direction,

  13. Why should the government bother to hike the salaries for the police, teachers, municipal workers and nurses? Go to these institutions and you realize that service delivery is at sub-zero levels. There is no need to compensate lazy people. Even 4% for this group is a sheer waste of tax payers money. They don’t deserve anything until they change their approach to work.

  14. lies in the morning, lies in the afternoon, lies at night. Great great liars! Govt even wrote to some unions telling them that 4% is maximum. Zambians are taken for granted like we are all children except the PF cabinet. Jack Shamwana: pay rise affects even other govt granted aided institutions like UNZA, CBU etc. Surely, Zambia will not be developed by illiterates.

  15. Shamenda it is NOT Good to accuse people anyhw. It is u talking about the 4% No one has mentioned it. So it is u inciting the workers.

  16. I thought PF govt supporters said Sata was man of action. Is this true? Look at CBU it has been closed for over a month due to the demage done to the structures there by a stom. Where is the man of action? What is the Veep’s office doing? I sense another Chiluba type of govt, which was comfortable with a university (UNZA) closing for our six months and saw that to be normal since Chiluba himself did not go through a college or university. What jobs are you going to create if a nation is going to be full of kaponyas? You need to educate those young ones at CBU to take up proper jobs.
