OPPOSITION political parties in Zambia have a responsibility to unite and speak with one voice on behalf of the poor people, MMD president Nevers Mumba has said.

Dr Mumba said it was his job as MMD leader to criticise policies which were “injurious” to the country.

He was speaking in Livingstone yesterday at Villa Ground to drum up support for United Party for National Development (UPND) Livingstone Central parliamentary candidate Howard Sikwela.

The PF is fielding Joseph Akafumba while independents Soko Zondhwayo and Stephen Zulu are also in contention.

Dr Mumba urged Livingstone residents to vote for Reverend Sikwela to enhance democracy and solidarity in the opposition.

He said by voting for Rev Sikwela, Livingstone residents would be strengthening the opposition which would continue offering checks and balances.

Dr Mumba was speaking in the company of UPND president, Hakainde Hichilema.

“I call upon the people of Livingstone to vote for democracy as well as vote for the entire opposition and for the poor people by voting for Rev Sikwela.

“When you vote for a UPND candidate, we shall have more opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) in Parliament,” he said.

Dr Mumba claimed that PF had not delivered on its campaign promises and that the ruling party had no right to make new promises.

Mr Hichilema urged Rev Sikwela to always remember the electorate if he was voted as Livingstone MP.

He urged UPND and opposition members in Livingstone to conduct door-to-door campaigns to enable Rev Sikwela to win the Livingstone Parliamentary seat.

MMD national secretary Richard Kachingwe said the opposition had decided to work together to offer checks and balances to the PF Government.

Major Kachingwe asked Livingstone residents to vote for the UPND candidate if they wanted to protect their rights.

Rev Sikwela, who knelt down to ask for votes from Livingstone residents, urged the electorate to vote wisely as wrong votes would make them get a political sentence for five years.

  1. Offering checks and balances is one thing, but obstructing and derailing good government policies and programmes is quite another! The latter seems to be Mr. Mumba’s speciality.

    • Dear Mungoma, most people are aware that MMD is not particularly a shining example, but for your Country’s sake could you kindly give examples of good PF government policies and programmes you are referring to?

  2. Sata is a finished recycled material that is beyond any redeemable use. Any sane person can not  even think of bringing him to the political battle field. Nothing new since 1962 when he joined politics and has failed all along. Wake up Zambians please

  3. Sense. these guys need to be checked and thy should not have a clear majority in parley for effective but reasonable checks and balances that will move Zambia forward.

  4. Ba Mumba MMD was in power for 20 years so I will judge PF as failures when they rule for a decade…you got that….!!!!

  5. Nevers Sekwila Mumba, Now Go to Serenje and Chama to drum up support for your candidates there. Time s running fast. 5th is very Near.

  6. MMD wake up…UNDP is like a prostitute…you own her for hours or one full day and that is it…. they will ditch you very soon once results do not unfold….Ba Mumba I like you but wrong person to form an alliance….Try Chipimo or Nayakwi

  7. this man is useless, for how long has upnd cheated the people of livingstone in terms development.the people of southern province have been voting for upnd for more 20 years but what development have they brought to the people.tongas please work with current GOVT which has promised to develop livingstone as a tourist capital

  8. Former man of God and now a peddler of lies. Be it known to you that the party of vampires that you lead is resposible for the mess we are in now. The PF is cleaning the rot you left in every corner of the country. Stop play a fool and let the people come into the boat of prosperity. The party you are supporting is full of blood thirsty vampires who assault mourners and undress pregnant women in broad day light. If I were you, I would distance myself from the diaperman let it spills make you stink big time on you too. Please Go back to the pulpit, God needs you there.

  9. This man is making sense! He has been insulted so much and yet, even when votes are at stake, he’s chilled. Keep it clean. Good man!

    • Ba Bwendo, easy. Have respect for men of God. Fear God.

It is better to have a God fearing person in office than one who does not fear God.

  11. Never Mumba, you failed to run your party and make it vibrant. Hijacked MMD, think you are taking it anywhere. Mwanya ba MMD you are going nowhere with this NEVER

    • you dont need to run your own part for you to rule the country. thats being dull. own parties dont go anywhere. you will see where pf will be after sata. one need to join progressive parties not run own party. ubukopo ba zedson

  12. kanyakula, UPND has never to in-charge of the treasury , for you to say the have never taken development to L/stone. Check you records

  13. Please also tell the voters that PF is hell-bent on returning the country to one party rule and have a proven record of lying to the nation.

  14. @Bondwe. I am sure a civil war will certainly be ignited sooner than later under PF rule because of thugs like you who enjoy inflicting pain and sorrow on poor souls. May God not spare you. Wicked evil man. To be PF is a sin before God and man. Don’t an Idol. Your fellow man Sata.

  15. Thats the best thing the opposituin have done. well done. Now the two leaders have to go to Chama and the the rest to explain and dram up support from these who still living in CNP idealologies. United we stand

  16. Dear Mungoma #6, most people are aware that MMD is not particularly a shining example, but for your Country’s sake could you kindly give examples of good PF government policies and programmes?

  17. Dear Dr. Mumba and fan club, I’m of the humble opinion that it is quite challenging on logic to champion rights and in the same breath say that someone has no right blah blah… Assuming you were right on the fact that they have not delivered, everyone has the right to ask for a second chance and make promises to that effect, or even make new un-related promises despite not having delivered on earlier ones. The people receiving those promises also have the right to accept or reject those promises. You cant deny either side their rights. Secondly, opposition is not just about criticizing and checks and balances. Its also about recommending plans and suggestions through proper channels outside the media circus, and co-operating with the the Governent of the Day and other stakeholders.

    • Sata has been said to be the most effective opposition. Did he ever do the things you are suggesting the current opposition to do, especially given PF was in opposition so long, about 10 years? Do you know of any country where opposition parties do what you are talking about? Or is this a new textbook theory on politics?

  18. But, we do understand that this is a campaign period and a little bit of strategic mischief is to be expected. Don’t kutina should also mean don’t kulaba ama issues. The electorate and their plight, not just by talking for them but by also being actively involved in projects that help the people, like some NGOs do. Its not just up to government to build school. Opposition can also build private institutions of learning, for example. They lobby foreign embassies for internal squabbles. They can also lobby for literacy enhancement facilities. Sometimes it is not logic deficiency but mis-applied logic.

  19. Ba Nevers, implementing developmental policies is not like cooking nshima which takes but a few minutes. It is wrong to accuse PF of failing to deliver on their promises in such a short time. Pembeleni mukamona ifintu fyatendeka ukucinja yama.

  20. Mumba is only interested in the glitz and glamour of the top politicians’ lives. All his talk about concern for the poor is false. He abandoned serving God for the glitz and glamour of the hotel circuit. Can he care about the poor? Nope.

  21. Why do people get agitated whn people say PF has failed to fulfil campaign promises? Why do people vote, what do they vote for? Dont they have expectations? Ok, Donchi Kubeba could mean PF were quiet about their intentions. But even so they still made promises. Any normal person would like to see fulfilment of promises. When we make promises, let us expect people to expect us to honour our words.

The opposition are right to query PF’s honesty. PF themselves would have done the same were they in opposition. It’s normal human behaviour.

    • MMD under Chiluba made campaign promises when ousting Kaunda. When they got into power Chiluba quickly said it would not be an easy road and would require time and hard work, and we accepted that. Why can we not accept the same for the new government?

  22. Way to go boys (Dr Mumba and HH). Reduce the number of PF MPs in parliament inorder to control the uncontrollable CNP. Continue positively building yourself and HH. Dont Kutina

  23. Any sane person would know that roads, schools, hospitals, industries cannot be built in 90 days from Livinstone-kasama-chipata -Mongu. i doubt the level education of this chap mumba, his pact colleagues and followers. has he forgotten how mmd and its globtrotting leader tried to woodwink the voters by pretending to develop the country in three months, the result was total rejection.! and MCS and PF have been given the mandate up to 2016 and mostly likely 2030 or more. And this Rev chap was kneeling to ask for votes, shame!! MCS was kneeling thank the voters. poor strategy ba Up aNDown.

  24. Good that HAHA wasnt quoted anywhere coz what ever would have come out of his mouth would have polluted the Docs Speech. Nonetheless, the Doc himself though he made an ernest appeal ,it just came from the wrong people at the wrong time. Viva PF, us who voted you in power will judge you at the end of your 1st Term.
To the voters in Livingstone, well its PF which has rebranded Livingstone as a Tourist capital ,hence it is earmarked for good development by the end of five years, till then we will reasonably judge.

  25. There is no way in hell a PF candidate can win a bye election in Southern, Western or North-Western province. The tribal bigotry Sata unleashed by saturating all corridors of power with Northern Alliance janjaweeds will come back to haunt him in the backside, where it never ever shines. That his party could even have the audacity to field a candidate in a town dominated by Tongas and Lozis is an insult, it shows how oblivious this situkumba is to the polarising effects of his tribal bigotry. isunwe uyu CNP suntwe aujata mubwa ku mujila!

  26. The only reason some Bembas here are condeming Mumba has nothing whatsoever to do with the validity, or lack of, what he is saying. To them, he is Bembas so should naturally support Sata even if the chap is a catancrous Chimbwi No Plan.

  27. Ba Nevers lets talk about achieving something after four years at least don’t confuse pipo about promises the truth is the reality even you will cheat US the innocent don’t make your self a star for nothing

  28. # 41 Ngombala Muhapi wa Mafatsi, your tribal sentiments are nauseating! Pf is fielding Akufumba who is your tribes mate and may even end up being in cabinet after this, but TO YOU as long as PF president is Bemba then you have to be tribalist? It is shameful for a man who has been to school to sit and hammer the key board hard just to disseminate hatred for a tribe grouping.Get off your psychiatric hatred and start discussing what would be good for the community of Livingstone. Is boosting the numbers of opposition in Parliament a good enough reason to vote for UPND? Is having an MP who belongs to PF and is able to work for the betterment of Livingstone through the government advantageous to the community of Livingstone? We need people to debate these facts & not tribes as bitter # 41.

  29. ” PF hasn’t delivered on its campaign promises and has no right to make new ones, Dr Mumba tells Livingstone voters ”

Why doesn’t he tell Lusaka voters why the MMD would be different from what it has been for the last 20 years, or whether he’s lying again.

The MMD has no platform they can market to the voters, other than that they want to be the bribetakers for the foreign mining companies again.

Let’s hope we can Never Say Nevers Again.

  30. #43 I agree with you 100 percent. This negative infatuation with tribe is nauseating. Tribes, like names, are just identities we assume. These don’t define what kind of a human being you are or are born to be. People who hide in tribes or races are those with no self-confidence. They look for a grouping of people whom they can hide behind because they have no courage to lead in society’s quest for progress. I dont think a tribe benefits because it has a subject in leadership even if it imagines so..

  31. It is clear to level headed people that Sata and PF have failed. Some are saying they need more time…. The problem is that PF has not even articulated what plan they have for them to be given more time. They could at least tell the nation what they are planning to do and HOW they plan to do it. If you want Zambia to develop, you are going to need all Zambians participating in that endeavor. And for all Zambians to participate, they need to know what is required of each one of them and for that you need a PLAN. A Chimbwi with No Plan cannot take a country anywhere and should not be given an more time. PF and those who support it are pathetic fools (PF), no pan intended!!

    • What plans has the opposition (MMD and UPND in particular) have for the nation, Hakainde’s only plan is K5m salary for civil servants and free education up to University. Bricklayer be honesty with yourself are these promises achievable???? we should not just critise because you hate someone be objective my brother.

  32. Hello, MMD is so in the past, Pf = 5 years…. then we vote for some else… thats the only way foward. Lets give everyone a chance, and not voting MMD thats like voting in reverse. Thankyou.

  33. Ba Mumba what have you done for Zambia as a politician apart from serving your own interests? You abandoned us when you adandoned the church. You will never amount to anything in politics until you have done a proper soul searching and set up priorities for your life. What matters most to you? Temporal or eternal? Give PF time. It is not even a year yet! Any intelligent person knows that Policy changes will not yield immediate results…..Rome was not built in a day!

  34. #42 Ha ha ha ati chimbwi no plan… are you a chimbwi with a plan? Dude, then what are you doing abroad? kateke….. people its a friday, go vent somewhere else.

  35. Ba Mumba naimwe umungulu yashani yama naimwe ukusabaila sabaila. The other day you opened you your mouth you talked amasushi over the president’s trip to Brazil. Anyway bamudala ba lupala learn to speak sense otherwise, utumyefu twa white natwamba pa moona po so be like a abakalamba ba mano not umungulu weka weka.

  36. With people like Nevers, MMD will not win 2016. UPND cannot replace HH even though he has no charisma and no chance with Southern Province being the only voters for him. It’s PF for another 9 years, viva!

  37. I am not the only one to break electoral promises. Even so called developed Democracies do the same. Nomba nishi???

  38. poor finishing, the pf cabinet is full of bembas.southern,western,north-western,cb, central and eastern provinces. let us come together and fight these tribalist govt.its a very disppointing govt after we voted of them.

  39. We especially need Easterners to wake up to the Bemba Tribalism. Then we need to Isolate the Bemba’s and keep them out of power. They are trouble as many of you are beginning to see.
    Thanks.

  40. Self Ordained priest, Run away bishop, conman, Former president of failed parties, Fired VP, Fired Ambassador…..what a cv!!!!

  41. UPND: 26.76% – 25.32%,- 19.70% – 18.17%
    MMD: 28.69% – 42.98% – 40.09% – 35.42%
    PF:  3.35% – 29.37% – 38.13% – 41.98%
    According to these statistical information:
    (1) UPND is steadily downward bound, ever sinking!! Why? Because of HH’s leadership! If late Mazoka lived on he could have been republican president.
    (2) MMD Steadily sinking, Given their 20 years in power the downward trend may be irredeemable! Ask UNIP what happened to them, the story might turnout the same for MMD.
    (3) PF seems phantoming. The popularity of is an exponential increase over the time. With good government and good economic management it is expected they can lead us for two terms.
Just thinking of HH and Nevers trying to work as a coalition, but who will  be No.1, the other No.2? REALITY

  42. PF has 4 years to rule and you cannot build a house in a day, this is real life Nevers, not biblical bullshit you have been shoving to people! Miracles don’t exist. You had your 20 years with MMD, so let others clean your filthy and make Zambia the country we can be proud of.

  43. Nevers Mumba could not even mention one of those campaign promises which the PF pledged to accomplish in less than nine months.

  44. I think this statement just shows how dishonest Nevers mumba is.. Nevers knows very well that it is impossible to deliver on the promises that the PF made in a few months. There are no miracles in economic management. How a christian can choose to knowingly mislead the very people he is seeking to lead is beyond me..The trouble with Zambian is you are very gullible. You believe every piece of nonsense that comes from a politician without even the slightest analysis. A simple example is how can anybody with brains believe that in 90 days Zambia would be a paradise of employment, good skus, gud health facilities etc.
