Police have detained MMD leader Nevers Mumba at Kitwe Central Police for unspecified reasons.
Dr. Mumba’s special assistant Raphael Nakachinda confirmed in an interview that the MMD President is still detained at the police station.
“We are not sure why we are here (police station), the officers followed Dr. Mumba and surrounded the place where we were lodging in Kitwe and asked us to accompany them to the police. No questioning has taken place here and the officers who picked us up have since disappeared,” Nakachinda said.
“The officers say they are waiting for further instructions from their superiors in Lusaka.”
Nakachinda said the detention could be connected to yesterday’s move by Dr. Mumba and some senior MMD officials to donate food items to Kamfisa State Prison.
“We took some food items valued at K5.5 million to Kamfisa because Dr. Mumba saw how the prisoners desperately need help when he was recently detained there and he wanted to celebrate Christmas with the inmates there but he was blocked.”
“We proceeded and made donations to the newly born babies at Kitwe Central Hospital and Chimwemwe Clinic but it appears the government is not happy with that kind gesture by Dr. Mumba,” he said.
By mid morning , Dr. Mumba was still locked up at Kitwe Central Police Station.

I support PF but this is uncalled for… Surely Sata is wrong in doing this unless Mumba had an ulterior motive! let him feed the prisoners it’s just a bit of publicity he was after.
The best way one can know who to help is by visiting. Likewise ,Nevers is in a better position to donate to Kanfinsa prison having been there which offered him an opportunity to assess the needy. Christmas was the best time to extend such a gesture. Whatever the situation,it is advisable the donated items reach the intended recipients in prison who badly want that sort of help. It will make God happy.

I don’t want to speculate the reasons for Mumba’s detention, but one thing I am sure of is that the PF govt. is not evil to arrest someone for attempting to donate food stuffs to prisoners at christmas.
Mumba brought this misery onto himself. I remember when he was still a powerful and respected televangelist and was asked if one day he would seek any political office, his answer was unequivocal and emphatic saying ” I am the minister for the very high (God) and becoming president of Zambia will be a demotion.” What happened after such a moving answer?
Nevrs has become greedy and has turned his back on God and what we are seeing is just a tip of divine punishment.

This government has no shame. It tells you the calibre of leaders we have in government who fail to read between the lines. It is dullness to behave in this manner. Sata’s own thinking is that no one can challenge him because he is president and therefore, he can do anything. There is a limit and this is a volcano Sata is creating. I think PF is forgetting that their ascending to power was really a revolt against some of the policies and stiff necked issues which was happening in MMD. It has got nothing to do with policies of pf. It is in this regard that i impore them to put thier house in order and begin to detach them selves from the current scenario of one party state . Zambian voters nowadays vote to teach a lesson rather then look at policies. any plan to expel lubinda and if he stood on any ticket he would still take the seat jst to punish PF just a PF won using Masumba who was expelled. Last week they did not tell us why the police did not grant them the permit to hold a rally : the truth is they failed to provide the police with a list of marshals as required by law.
