National Restoration Party (NAREP) President Elias Chipimo says it is possible that the prosecution of former President Rupiah Banda on corruption charges is aimed at completely ruling out any political comeback by the former president.

Mr Chipimo says it is possible that the PF are scared that Mr Banda, who only served 3-years of late President Mwanawasa’s final five year term could make a political comeback and decide to run for the presidency again.

He cited the way former late President Fredrick Chiluba stopped first republic president Kenneth Kaunda from making a political comeback in 1996.

Mr Chipimo said the State’s case against Mr Banda could face some problems looking at the way the charge has been framed, and that the fact that he has been charged with something which was not an offence at the time it is alleged to have been committed.

He added that the former President’s cases raises serious constitutional issues which he says the High Court will have to determine.

Mr Chipimo stated that from the outset, the signs are not looking good for the Director of Public Prosecutions office.

He said the continued investigation of the former president while he has already been charged, is to stop him in his tracts.

And Mr Chipimo implored all media personnel in Zambia to ensure that they accurately and diligently deliver factual information to the public.

Mr. Chipimo explained that the media plays a very important role in the enhancement of democracy and are generally trusted by sources even when some of them would adopt a partisan stance in their profession.

He said that the public has so much confidence in the media hence the more reason why there is need for all media professionals to remain honest, trust worthy and uphold the media ethics at all times.

The NAREP president stressed that the power that the media holds is very considerable and should always be used in service of the country not for character assassination or to promote a divisive agenda, but to allow the free flow of opposing ideas and views to be debated and considered against the back drop of some common concerns.

    • That would be quite interesting. I wonder what the final result would be. The old man has another five years left if he wishes to contest the presidency again

    • What causes this leadership vacuum in Zambia? Can I submit that just as has been proposed for ministerial positions, maybe the new constitution should also open up candidature for the office of state president to any respectable, educated, hardworking Zambian of good moral standing to stand, provided they can mobilize 200 supporters from each province, and should all be given a series of live television debates to prove themselves?

  1. Papa R upiah Banda persecuted by the evil forces of PF for nothing. They can’t match his bumper harvests, his record forex reserves and his political tolerance so they just invent charges. He will be back bigger and better than ever before.

    • Eagle_Eagle, exactly my sentiments. Elias should be above such petty reasoning. The reason why he says the charges relate to a period when Rupiah’s theft was not an offence is because Rupiah himself and his cronies dismantled that aspect of the law. Removing the Abuse of Office clause was well calculated by thieves to loot the national treasury with impunity. Whether the offence did not exist or not under that compromised piece of law, Rupiah and cronies abused their positions. Elias needs to check his mouth before uttering statements that will put him in the same mold as Rupiah. Sometimes I wonder if these politicians make statements out of careful and analytical mind steads or they utter nonsense for expedience.

    • Very disappointing statement from Chipimo. I’m amazed at how many Zambians seem to condone Rupiah’s corruption!

    • What political tolerance are you talking about you moron? Didn’t you see how he treated the opposition leaders calling them demeaning names and firing some of his cabinet ministers on a rally and threatening to follow them to their respective constituents to finish them off. Well only people with short memories can think in your ways.

  2. Hear hear, It would be a nice twist of fate to have Rupiah Banda back as president. But i think the man is above PF pettiness.I think instead he should groom someone of the younger generation. Rupiah left Zambia on the road to recovery and PF is taking us backwards. The little successes they are scoring are all follow ups on MMD’s projects.Never have we seen such pettiness in State House. But their days are numbered.

  3. arggh come on please, who would vote for RB to the point where he wins the elections..? am beginning to think Chipimo is slowly but surely losing it…who can a sane mind think and even put ink to paper like chipimo.? no hard feelings but RB wasnt or isnt a heavy weight like Sata was when in opposition. I might be wrong but I would be surprised to see people voting someone who behaved like zambia was a fmily business entity.

    • What’s the difference then – Isn’t PF Govt like a family Business Entity now if not worse? You Bembas are blind to your own glaring weaknesses. Just like you accuse UPND of being TRIBAL and yet PF is even the most tribal party in Zambia today! I will see who will vote for the PF party come 2016.

    • Bwana daudi isabi your statement and i qoute “I will see who will vote for the PF party come 2016” Does not help you and UPND one bit, lets assume Both PF and UPND to be tribla party. Do you think UPND could emerge victorious? May be let me just give you the currents statistics: Bemba 30.1%, Nyanja 10.7%, Tonga 10.6%, Lozi (5.7%, Chewa 4.9%, Nsenga 3.4%, Tumbuka 2.5%, Lunda (official) 2.2%, Kaonde (official) 2%, Lala 2%, Luvale (official) 1.7%), English 1.7%, other 22.5% . Easteners are well known to be Bemba’s tribal Cousines, and Northwesteners use Bemba more than their own languages in their day to day business activities. I think you can do the MATH

    • You people ask who would vote for R.B????but then if you analysise the zambian potlitical scene, and you scrutinise. president Sata’s passed, his history of violence in Chawama, his placing of public funds in a personal account., the many insults his said against presidents Mwanawasa and Banda and many more unethical things his done in his political life, he would seem like the last person to vote for, but he still won against an incumbent. At the rate things are going if Mr Banda stood for president, he would get more votes than what he got in 2011, I don’t think he would win cause PF are out to rig elections, even parallel voter tabulation will not be allowed by this government.

  4. Mr Chipimo, what about yourself, what do have to offer to Zambians. You came up with a fake NGO or sorry mutima party which according to f.a,g,go.tz it was the intention of supporting gay rights. Now that the constitution has barred gay rights in Zambia your NGO is also gone. Sorry, talk about yourself and don’t keep admiring R b.

  5. I HAVE USUALLY BEEN IMPRESSED WITH CHIPIMO’S ANALYSIS BUT NOW I AM BEGINNING TO HAVE SECOND THOUGHTS. SUPPOSE IT TURNS OUT TRUE THAT RB DID ACTUALLY DIP HIS HANDS INTO THE POT WHAT WILL YOU SAY.

    • their argument is theres no crime committed because at that time there was no law which stopped them from looting. its a new law.

    • Ba Bongwe whether there was no law or not, why did he intentionally remove the law that existed??? He knew exactly what he was doing. And he should pay back on Moral grounds. Shame on his lawers who even know very well that he stole from the people. Ba Chipimo naimwe ni diarrhoea mukwete

    • Chipimo was someone we thought will change the ball game but the chap is completely lost. look at his defection in his party and the reasons for the defection, it is over money misuse at a small party level. what about if he was made to run the country, how much is he going to plunder? Narep, is dead.

  6. I have always said CHIPIMO is not in his normal state. How can one who is aspiring to be a president talk like that?
CHIPIMO mwaiche,RB cannot rule zambia any more. What is it that we are missing from him (RB)?He destroyed everything and PF is putting the pieces together and you are talking abt him? Chipimo wasebana!!! So you are supporting wat RB did to Zambians ?
    But kweenaaaaaa!!!!

  7. On which party ticket can RB bounce back? MMD is finished! For RB to have lost last election simply means that it’s practically impossible to get anywhere nearer from becoming president again, otherwise he should have retained the presidency if he is popular.

  8. Kapimo, really? NAREP, MMD you are all failures and losers so shut the hell up and support the growth of the country.

  9. There is no come back ba Chipimo naimwe. I thought you are a smart lawyer, now you are talking like an MMD cadre from Kanyama compound. Your father will disown you soon. Rupiah Banda would still lose to a FROG on ballot paper if he stood again. He is a loser! Coming back to do what? Loot some more? You are a joke Elias!

  10. Chipimo surely can make one doubt his sanity! RB and his cohorts in parly removed the abuse of office offence from the ACC act so that they open the door wide open and slip the Zambian money through! I ask Chipimo as a lawyer to read Shaw v. Director of Public Prosecutions in which the House of Lords (acting as a superior court, not as a legislature), invented/discovered the criminal offense of “conspiracy to corrupt public morals”, a crime unknown to English law before that case.
It is shocking for a lawyer to make the statements attributed to Chipimo and I am extremely disappointed. Go back to practicing law Elias before you forget everything you knew about law.

    • @MundiaM. It’s the money he chewed in legal fees from privatisation of Zambian assets (causing untold misery) that is making him go cuckoooooo

  11. Any way Chipimo you are free to express yourself but to tell you the truth RB cant be voted for in Zambia. RB was a very detached president from Zambians. He promoted the cause of foreigners more than that of Zambians. More over he was a corrupt man.

Peace and Prosperity to Mother Zambia.

  12. Chipimo has become eccentric. He is, to be certain, taking a leaf from Chama Chakomboka, of days gone by. Completely loopy, completely on the bend, is Chipimo!

  13. Political come back is not the issue. In the first place, that is a sheer waste of time. A single Party continued grip on power is better. Democrats abhor One Man shows. The real issue here is building a foundation for development and democracy in the country. The fight against Political Corruption or Big Corruption is intended to chanel revenue to infrastructure development and employment creation. It is not personal. It is the Rule of Law. None is above law in Zambia. Proof: a fromer president can be held accountable for his or her misdeeds.

  14. I Chibemba chitila ati ibwelelo ilalya.Going back to the vomit that is the lat thing a normal person can think off.MMD promoted corruption and crooks would easily bring anything on form of money laundering.

  15. The harder they come the harder they fall. Do not live in a bubble Chipimo, for it will quickly burst. Your interpretation of removal of RBB’s immunity and corruption issues and linking this to RBB comeback is a fallacy in your head. There is no such thing as that poor observation by you. I can rest assure you that this marks your road to a political dead-end. Your NAREP will never go anywhere, just wait for your funds to dwindle and all your supporters will disperse.

  16. he is the leader of a political party. talking about others like that really makes me feel he has nowhere to go politically. no hope for him. am wondering if narep has mps in in the house

  17. I am shocked! How can Chipimo talk such nonsense? Was it PF that booted RB out of office after barely three years or was it PF? And why was that? Does Chipimo think the collective consciousness and memory of Zambians has suffered incurable amnesia?
It is amazing how an erstwhile promising young politician can foolishly ruin his chances by making mindless pronuncements!

    • I meant to say: “Was it PF that booted RB out of office after barely three years or was it the Zambian people?”

  18. Zambians will never make the mistake of voting for RB even if he stood again. Chipimo should have good advisors otherwise his political career will be in tatters should he continue to open his mouth anyhow.

  19. I was thinking of picking one opposition party to support and this narep come up, but now i dont know what to do. Surely should corruption of Heads of State be ignored,i expected much more from Chipimo now he just a let down. A lawyer talking about cases in court and to make matters worse he is not even on the defending side. A young and disappointing Man. Anywhere going by Mulongoti in Zambia some opposition leaders are just happy being called President and it ends their.
    Rubbish!

    • Hahahaha…Mwine zed!! Wansekesha sana. Ati you were suporting Chipimo now that he has showed you that he is insane then you dont know!!

  20. RB IS A CLEAN MAN HE LEFT ZAMBIA BETTER THAN IT IS UNDER UKWA’S TRIBAL KINGDOM.PF HAS 74 MPS THAT FORMS AFRICA’S LARGEST GOVT, YET SATA PROMISED TO HAVE A SMALL GOVT ONCE IN POWER

  21. Mr Chipimo is a discounted politician. Surely how can you say this? I, as a PF, supporter, I was very scared of the way you were coming up. Nomba awe kaya

  22. Nansense ka Chipomo is just a ka Facebook politician, where has he been hiding eh? next time you should escort Ala Bee to court and give the sly thieving vile chap moral support…

  23. CHIPIMO, YOU ARE NOT SERIOUS. TALK FOR YOUR OWN CAREER WHY BANDA?? LOOKS LIKE THE BOY WANTS TO PARTNER WITH MMD??

  24. Not even a blind **** would vote this **** Ala Bee, Chipomo wants Ala Bee to sign his company for legal work. You are too late don’t snooze next time your vile blood sucking ***** pals got in there first.

  25. They might not have a good case against mr Banda but hey mr banda can’t have the energy to ran for office in 2016 and he has no basis or political capital to ran on. Right now we don’t have a man in politics who can win against sata. Kabimba, nevers, HH and others in the opposition they are not fully matured in politics. And theses including Banda they have no record even of handling an institution successfully . Mr chipimo can’t scared the PF and how can he think mr Banda who is old can scare old sata or the entire PF?

  26. Winton Churchill once said ” The only skill you need in politics is timing”

    Nothing is impossible…

  27. Very disappointing comments coming from Chipimo! RB has never been a political force in Zambia, he won the election because of the sympathy vote for Mwanawasa. He spent Gazillions of kwachas and failed to win the election, how do you expect him to win when his party is broke?
Chipimo is choosing sides at a wrong time and he should not condone corruption by former government officials.
It is a pity NAREP is going faster in the archives of the Zambian opposition landscape, by next year it will be a one man army like Miyanda.

  28. Honestly there are people in zed who think Rupiah can win from opposition ? Let’s face it guys, that’s for men with more stamina!

  29. Ba Chipimo are you going to be one of those who will rejoice when the outcome of the cases go in Rupiah’s favour? Rupiah come back? Nah! that chapter’s closed

  30. Wanted to support NAREP, but useless now. It surprises me to Say RB can comeback how? PF didnot hammer a Coup, the Just won clean. To me whose in touch with Zambian reality as i trvael extensively in Zed RB is not an issue may be Cash wise now. PF is stil major and consolidating it’s position especially if they accept the new Pipo driven costitution and the new infrastructure projects then forget. Nevers and Elias are the ones noticing RB as a threat, for Nevers everyone knows he is almost bankrupt and now Chipima kapena ni Mashabe uyu mwana.

  31. KK kwati chimufana

Bachipimo, katwishi nefyo mupima. You are forgetting that RB was the most unpopular presdo Zed has ever had. Us who are in the diaspora twaleumfwilamo nensoni. Chipimo or kapimo taulekota bwino mulumendo.

  32. Chipimo is loosing direction just like what others might have noticed because one would think that he is one of many young men who one time will be fused in big party to replace some of the old politicians in politics but alas……
The young man is totally loosing his credibility and it will be too late when he comes to realize his shortcomings in political field. Is he trying to become a good Samaritan to Banda. If it means anything this could be the last unthinkable thing one could hear from him.
Chipimo I know you are exercising your own rights but you are misplacing them. Even the forming of a political Party was not done in good faith or perhaps you think Zambians are easily taken for granted, who ever wakes up in the morning dreams of forming a Party.
    PPC. Botswana

  33. Have you understood what Chipimo is saying? Please read the article again and tell me where he is campaigning for an RB come back. It says “IT IS POSSIBLE PF……” He is trying to have an understanding as to why this govt. has gone after RB without following the law. Mwefinangwa! U read the title and you start firing blanks.

    • So you and Chipimo really want RB to win the case right? Coz its like your interest is to let RB go scot free. Why should he even think of the Possibility to start with, which means he himself has been thinking about it and now he want to use reverse Psychology

    • I’m always pleased to find a few bloggers like you Destroyer who can read and understand. Some people just read the headline and start commenting without understanding the gist of the article. That is why only few people pass exams.

  34. Dont forget what happened in 1996 MMD,with UNIP.because of the problems people faced,People demanded UNIP come back.MMD banned Dr. Kaunda, then UNIP boycotted. Is how unip lost its direction.Mind you UNIP lost popularity because of Food Prices,The President is afraid of this to Happen.PF is also Facing the same challenges of Food shortages & High prices of Mealiemeal.Do you think people are happy of these?Let people judge.
Men usually go back to the first wife, after facing alot of challenges with a new wife.

    • Musokotwane rebuilt UNIP in 1996. Remember ba Lucy Sichone! Thats when ba KK tried to take it back to himself and confusion ensued. What followed next was just another drama.

  35. Chipimo mwaice, icefye. Is it true these rantings emanate from your mouth? If so CHipimo has been been put into a deep sleep by the charms of RB. How can he fail to see corruption that RB perpetuated?

  36. Ka Chipimo is trying to get closer to MMD orphans who are migrating to whoever gets closer to RB.
Like Dr C. Banda has found warmth in UPND. Is UPND about to gain more than 1million votes in 2016 in order to overtake sata? This should be the reason C. Banda should join any party.
Diminishing returns party after Mazoka. Find another president. Not HH,

    • Sorry bwana. Find one to replace your ukwa. For us, it is HH all the way. He is a very saleable product as things stand.

  37. When you hear a vibrant young man seeking presidential seat and a Lawyer for that matter start campaigning for fomer President and cr**k, then you start wondering whether the young generation is ready to take over leadership of this country. I had some hopes in this chipimo guy but now they are shartered. Let one party state come quickly using the China model

  38. Some times I wonder what type of Lawyers do we have in this country, how on earth Chipimo can say that. I hope he was drank and when he wakes up sober he will retract that statement. The Law is law Mr lawyer you can still be charged because now this peice of registration has been made into law. At first I thought you Mr Chipimo should know better not to discuss matters which are before Court. Let me remind you that Rb will go down and this case will come to its finality.

  39. Isabi Daudi or whatever your name is, you are very tribal and like to educate you a little bit. When you say you bembas are blind to your own weaknesses who are you making those references to, is it the politicians or the bembas. If you think PF is a tribe then you must sit down and read some stuff. Sata’s majority of votes came from the CB is CB a bemba land??? You see its people such as yourself who are so blinded by tribe that you don’t even realise that among the top five leaders of the PF there are only two bembas Sata and GBM they rest are non Bembas. You have Winter, Guy Scott, Emmanuel Chenda, and at one point we had Lubinda. It is important to note that. Now lets imagine Sata was tribal or PF it wouldn’t still be fair to say Bembas are tribal just like now I hardly say UPND is.

  40. Ba Chips tulamyumfwa bwino but on this one your comment is not accurate. Besides RB is too old that is why he was always on the move wen he was president. We have young vibrant people who can be president – look at Obama, Cameroon etc

  41. Now you are making sense Mr Chipimo ! Not so long ago you spoke for Sata and his party ! What changed brother ????
    All the same….good job !!

  42. Ba Chipimo naimwe mulelandako ifya mano…….Are sure this statement is meant for the public..We have some hope in you but dude watch your mouth.

  43. Do make yourself unpopular by talking of things that are not sensible. Talk of someone else being a threat to PF not ba RB pliz

  44. Ka Chipimo amano yaya yalepwa naiwe nabwaiche. How can i reasonably support you when you are in full support of RB who has plundered national wealth and is currently facing criminal charges? Shame on you Ka Chipimo!! Come 2016, you will kiss dust if you continue supporting corrupt people like RB.

  45. Kwena ba Chipimo mulesabailafye. RB cant cause any ripple since he cant even win the MMD Presidency. The man was corrupt. When he was President we all looked forward to the day his corruption would come to an end and he faces justice. Why should prosecution halt because he is a politician? Are politicians not supposed to be charged for corruption because this will be seen as a political motive?

  46. I am seriously beginning to doubt the analytical power of this shrimp Chipimo. The constitution is clear: Banda cannot make a so-called political come-back because as a former president, he can no longer be an active participant in national politics. Therefore, by extension, Mr. Chipimo, hard as this may be for your and your likes to comprehend, Banda is not a factor in national politics today. Should he choose to come back to active politics, he should also be aware that his pension gets withheld. And you and I know already how much Banda loves his and other people’s money! And therefore I am sure you know which one he will chose. All that said, nothing in our constitution says Banda cannot and must not be held accountable for any crimes and wrongdoings he committed or oversaw while…

  47. All that said, nothing in our constitution says Banda cannot and must not be held accountable for any crimes and wrongdoings he committed or oversaw while he was President. And you want to be president? Seriously?

  48. BA YAMA BA CHIPIMO NABO KATWISHI NGA BALALA MU MANDA PAKULOTA IFILOTA IFYALUBANA NGEFI BALOTA. SOMETIMES HE TALKS SENSE ANOTHER TIME HE SPEWS. DOES IT NEED AN EDUCATED PERSON TO KNOW THAT BA RB NIBA POMMPWE, SURE. ABANTU TETI BABAFWAYE NAPA?
