Government Chief Spokesperson Kennedy Sakeni

Government Spokesperson Kennedy Sakeni has expressed disappointment in the planned door to door campaign by the civil society to oppose the fuel and maize subsidy removal. He described it as totally unnecessary and called on the civil society to find other ways of engaging government.

Below is the Full Press statement

STATEMENT BY HON. KENNEDY SAKENI, MP, MINISTER OF INFORMATION AND BROADCASTING SERVICES AND CHIEF GOVERNMENT SPOKESPERSON ON THE BLACK FRIDAY CAMPAIGN

Government notes with disappointment the announcement by a consortium of some civil society organizations that it has embarked on a door to door campaign to mobilise people to oppose the recent removal of subsidies on maize and fuel, as reported in some sections of the media.

This is unnecessary as there are more civil and amicable ways of engaging Government.

While it is their democratic right to express themselves on any issue of national importance, civil society organizations involved in this campaign should avoid any actions that have potential to bring them into conflict with the law.

Government, under the leadership of His Excellency President Michael Chilufya Sata, has embraced an inclusive and open-door approach in managing the affairs of the country.

As such, all Zambians, regardless of political orientation, are free to engage the Government on any issue of concern to them.

This Government is for consultation rather than confrontation in dealing with national issues.

Government is convinced that its decision to remove the subsidies on maize and fuel was taken in the best interest of the nation and deserves the support of all stakeholders.

The savings made will go a long way in uplifting people’s living standards.

Hon. Kennedy Sakeni, MP
MINISTER OF INFORMATION AND BROADCASTING SERVICES AND CHIEF GOVERNMENT SPOKESPERSON

  1. why should the government be impressed?? mr sekani.. it shouldnot!!!… not very that happens in zambia should impress you.. its called life, sometimes impressed,.. sometimes not,,, sometimes ´OAU` booed,,, and life goes on

    • ‘Government has embraced an inclusive and open-door approach in managing the affairs of the country.’
Hmmm…from the beatings these last few days that have gone unchecked-am beginning to think that that door is quite shut my dear sir…
‘Government is convinced that its decision to remove the subsidies on maize and fuel was taken in the best interest of the nation and deserves the support of all stakeholders.’
There is obviously a poor job in place that is meant to create a bridge between the Govt. and the people…if this removal is just and fair, then create dialogue with Zedians in such a way that the Govt. and the people both win-talk to us, give us details and plans of expenditure!-look into ‘direct marketing!’-u won’t go wrong 😉

    • ndobo sounds dull, and I am being nice.

I had 23 points in grade 12, and you sound like someone who probably didnt have a full grade 12 certificate, needless I say I am doing my PhD?

I also have an MBA, ACCA, CIMA Msc, Bsc Oxford Univeristy, Msc and now PhD

      Thanks

    • Mushota,

      With all the papers you claim to have i fail to understand how you continue to write statements that dont make sense;
E.g. Needless i say i am doing my PHD?
Needless to say i am doing my PHD or
Need i say i am doing my PHD?

    • @mushota
hahahahahahah 23points is alot!!!… we kakopo we! with fake qualifications and someone else`s ID, you can fool others but you cant fool me, you are not the real mushota i know,,,
you should have read what @catpower wrote about you then you could have had some moments to reflect about your life

Du dåre, snyd att jag dig!!!

    • They are trying to dissuade people from exercising their democratic right to express dissatisfaction at the way the PF is running the country; the beatings by the militia of anybody with a different opinion; and the killings of innocent Zambians who stand up for their human rights !!!!

  2. Civil society: what results are you hoping the campaign will achieve?
Will you explain both sides of the coin to let people make an informed opinion?
Then what follows? Which Zambians have funded your strategy? If foreign funds then search you patrotism.

    • As long as Sakeni is complaining every day then results are been achieved! Sakeni and his friends should be reminded that they are on the wrong path!

    • Can you leave the US including the US dollars then try to establish your life in Lusaka. After a month then you qualify to speak against the suffering poor people of Zambia.shame on you

    • the CSO need not give both sides of the subsidy story because one side is what the government is giving. so the CSOs are giving the other side. Then the people will be fully enlightened sir!

  3. It is the Zambian Citizens’ Right to protest against public THEFT been done in their name by a dishonest and thuggish regime!

Man up, dear Sakeni stop nagging us like a neglected wife!

  4. THE SMALL CSO’s WILL BE MET BY THE PF CADRES. YOU CAN ASK THE BIGOCA CHURCH OF MATERO WHAT HAPPENED. SOMETIMES PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE. THERE IS NOTHING NEW THAT THESE CSO’s WANT TO SAY. THESE ARE JUST UPND THUGS WHO ARE LOOKING FOR POLITICAL MILEAGE. THE PEOPLE OF ZAMBIA HAVE UNDERSTOOD THE REASON BEHIND THE REMOVAL OF SUBSIDIES. IF IT WERE NOT SO, THERE COULD HAVE BEEN RIOTS ALL OVER THE COUNTRY.

    • Honestly u have a very low IQ like prostitute Silva Masebo & Sata who still lives in their old days when Silva was mayor of Livingstone & Sata was the Minister of Local Govt. This is the time when Zambians never realised that Sata was a comedian like Ukwa, as he is.

U should know that Sata’s relative Deputy Minister Sampa went to apologise & tried to corrupt the church with his stinking money as he was under pressure in front of BIGOCA church members.

Kabimba felt the pressure too and he apologised as if Sampa did not go to BOGOCA Church to apologise.

So this PF panga men intimidating Zambians wont work this time but it will be a too Zambians will use to arm themselves & start attacking back against PF corrupt leaders & all its thugs. It will be 50:50 very soon.

  5. “While it is their democratic right to express themselves on any issue of national importance, civil society organizations involved in this campaign should avoid any actions that have potential to bring them into conflict with the law”.

Sakeni, which law are they breaking,SIR?
Do they need police permit to visit people’s homes?
So when I choose to visit my friend or a relative, will I be required to get a police permit?
    This interesting now!

    • This Sakeni person and his people are imbeciles !!!!
Is it alright for the ministers to go to the people and brainwash them about why the removal of subsidies must be embraced ???
These Civil Society organisations are also only their doing their job….explaining to the ordinary people on the ground, how the removal of subsidies will affect their livelihood !!!
What is so wrong about telling the people the truth????
PF is trying to brainwash the ordinary people into ACCEPTING the REMOVAL of SUBSIDIES !!! While the CSOs are trying to SAVE the people from ALLTHESE “BUFI” !!!!
Now who deserves to ARRESTED…..or better still IMPEACHED !!!!!!

  6. This planned door to door campaign by the civil society organizations is a recipe for trouble. In the first place are they going to guaranty the sefety of their members. Not everyone agrees with their agenda and they are most likely to meet with violent hostility as they may also be viewed as party cadres from the opposition. Please dont over stretch the already burdened police. Let common sense prevail for your sefety.

    • U will soon regret your comments and your violent PF thugs. You u are just missing an opportunity when u can mend things with Zambians

Intimidating Zambians wont work but will drive them to learn how to protect themselves against PF violent criminal behavior

Knowing who Sata is, he will soon raise up the WHITE FLAG against what he & his PF THUGS are doing against Zambians

I know Sata & that is how he started the kneel before the electorates traditions during eletions it was part of the raise the white flag as Zambians are the deciders

Sata told Reverend Chomba old the USA to apologise to Zambians regarding his scandals

Mark my words Sata will soon start telling his PF thugs including Kabimba to apologise to Zambians for the crimes they have committed against Zambians

  7. The savings made will go a long way in uplifting people’s living standards.
    Hon. Kennedy Sakeni, MP
Just say it will go a long way in uplifting your standard of living not the people’s! More money in your pocket.

    • U moron Chimpanzee. The savings will go a long way to fatten the bellies of Sata & his PF criminal thugs in his corrupt bloated government.

Sata & his PF govt are not sincere at all, if he was sincere he would have trimmed his govt and his huge salary during this trying time for Zambians.

Sata is just a greedy mad man with a greed appetite for money & has no regard whatsoever for Zambians welfare.

  8. My advice to individuals who feel strongly over this, or any other issue, is that you should emulate Mandela and stand up on your own first, instead of hiding behind unsuspecting Zambians. That way you will earn respect and support.

One prominent Lawyer, who was UNZASU PG, once led a demo against Govt. but was number one when running away from the Police when teargas was fired; faster than Usain Bolt. Such is the leadership of these rabble rousers; no balls!

    • That is the language of over confident dictators wait till the heat is upped up against Sata & his PF thugs he will be the one to run in the wall at State House.

He will have no where to go to! Only Chimbokaila & Leopard Hill Cemetery.

Zambians had dictators before like UNIP Dictator Kenneth Kaunda who was an ardent communist who graabbed Zambians businesses while himself amassed a lot of money in businesses.

UNIP Kaunda was chased from power in disgrace by Zambians on 30th June 1990 & actually he was almost lynched in Ndola, he was just luck that he was taken in an ambulance (he pretended that he was sick).

So stop being over confident that Sata has managed to instill fear in Zambians. Sata is yet to learn the hard way! SOON!

  9. Thank you bwana minister. I am very happy you’ve clarified things here. I always thought your open-door approach in managing the affairs of the country was for PF cadres who walk freely past those doors. In another breadth we also have an open door approach for anyone to join black Friday campaigns. We would like to extend this invitation to you to join us this Friday and please wear a nice black suit, i have noticed you look very nice in suits. If its too much to ask we could come to your office in our black suits , please advise. Thank you

  10. I had respect for this SHUSHUSHU called Sakeni when he was at the Red Brick but he lost my confidence because he changed his loyalty for 30 pieces of silver & lies.

He is worse off than what Mwaanga did to the political realm! I just hope he will stand as a witness against Sata & his PF criminal thugs when the Zambia people will prosecute these PF thugs.

Mwaanga was a loyal patriotic Zambian who made sure he was a always a shushushu at all times. Mwaanga out smarted even former Intelligence Director Chungu.

Zambians look forward to the day Sakeni will give evidence in the court of law against PF thugs. We Zambians are just playing that u do not die but be alive to stand against this savage called Sata.

  11. I shudder to think what PF would have been up to if they were in opposition and MMD removed subsidies….the whole country would have been on fire.

  12. Sekeni and yo fellow stooges, didnt u spent 6bn to go arround and sensitize pipo on the same? why worry now, let others also disseminate information and pipo will be left to judge on there own

  13. am saddened by the lack of information about the issue of subsidies (including civil soicety), every well meaning economist who is aware of the issue of subsidies and their current form in zambia, should not oppose the issue entirely, let me ask a question, when we subsidize fuel, do we really know who we are subsidizing or we think its the majority of Zambian citizens(research on this), my appeal to the government is to release statistics on fuel consumption, then we will know who is really being subsidized, other wise its dangerous to fight for a cause when you only have half the information…..the question here is not abut subsidies being good or bad, I mean the world over, subsidies are used, the issue is the subsidies in their current form in Zambia and who really benefits from them.

  14. ken i think you studied mafiology because you cant differentiate governance and politics,go and vizit a dentist your bad breath makes you ukusabaila.

  15. When father Bwalya launched the red card campaign, you were happy remember? You were in opposition then. So let the civil society launch their black friday also, after all it’s about providing checks and balances. Bwana minister by the way do you know that you have dracula teeth/mouth stop talking nonsense

  16. just work hard and prove them wrong
bro Sekani, people get tired of all
this yapping. lets see some works

  17. Enganging is one thing, listening to what you are being engaged about is about is another important thing that needs to happen following an engangement. The PF government has shown alot of arrogance and not wanting to listen to what the people that elected them are saying. If Sakeni wishes to engage he must be prepared to listen. For sure subsidies is one subject that win and lose you an an election.Im sure the people that support your removing of subsidies have got alot things the subsidies for their own people in their own countries. So listen and listen carefully Mr Sakeni.

  19. Shaka Oz, the up and down/mmd mercenary. You really have a lot of time to bark rubbish all the time. Find something else to do apart from politicking boi.

  20. THE CIVIL SOCIETY SHOULD NOT START BY ENGAGING THE GOVERNEMNT SO THAT THEY HAVE FACTS BEFORE THEY START INCITING PEOPLE TO RIOT.IT SEEMS EMOTIONALS HAVE INDEED OVERTAKEN REASON AND THE NEED TO DIALOGUE.IT ALL SOUNDS LIKE THIS DOOR TO DOOR IS BEING CHAMPIONED BY THE UPND WHO WANTS TO MAKE POLITICAL CAPITAL OUTOF ANY SITUATION.HH THINKS RIOTS WILL TAKE HIM TO PLOT 1!!.ZAMBIANS MUST BE CAREFUL AND NOT FOLLOW BLINDLY THESE PROPHETS OF DOOM!! PEOPLE MUST WAIT UNTIL THE PF GOVERNMENT FAILS TO EXPLAIN WHERE THE MONEY THEY WILL RAISE FROM THE REMOVAL OF SUBSIDIES WILL BE USED. SURELY WE CANNOT CONTINUE DEPENDING ON FOREIGN AID,GRANTS AND LOANS TO DEVELOP OUR COUNTRY.SACRIFICE IS NEEDED AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER.

  21. I MEANT THE CIVIL SOCIETY SHOULD START BY ENGAGING GOVERNMENT FOR FACTS BEFORE THEY INCITE PEOPLE TP RIOT!!

  22. Dts very easy for a man wt 3 jobs to say,he duznt buy hs own fuel, pay hs wata/electricity bills neither duz he buy hs own mealie meal,u mr Sakeni as ur last job specifies ar js a spokes person nd u cnt feel tha pinch of wat tha real world on tha ground z feeling, thiz ar real human lives dt u guys ar toyin wt simply to satisfy ur own selfish desires,hw many pipo ll suffer, cry n b exploited befor u guys ar happy?if we survived js fyn in tha mmd govt wt tha sem subsidys u claim ar causing distortions hw cum we cnt mek t nw?y z mealie meal nw 70pin?if u pf guys pretend u care so much for zambia y cn pipo lyk urself give up ur atha two positions for sumbdyelse’s mouth to be fed?becoz it wud mek a difrence….nd there u ar tokin bot saving n dt tha many will help many lives wat abt tha…

  23. Honestly, pa Zed… There are sound economic reasons for subsidy removal. Oh and also, boma ni boma guys. Opposition is frighteningly weak to clutch at these straws

  24. Who ever writes statements for this ***** Kennedy thing is worse than the most mad ishilu in Luapula and Muchinga , No sense through out , go back to Grade 1 and learn some sense in academic reasoning and public communication and administration

Zambians especially those from MUCHINGA AND LUAPULA are very dull, I now believe BEYOND REASONABLE DOUBT

  25. Does it mean black friday, church, and one man freedom statue protest have failed for CSOs to start door to door??? The zambians whom they claim to represent seem to be busy trying to make ends meet.

  26. If you allowed people to demonstrate, they would have used the same old boring forms and we would have forgotten.

You banned demos and sent thugs out to beat people. It has made people innovate past your blocks.

Soon there will be emails and bbm’s what’sapp and such like that you can hardly copntrol. The tighter you grip water the more it slips through the fingers!

  27. In the world of diplomacy, its an acceptable norm to consider a diplomat representing a nation, represents its culture and opinion.

But its goes further than that. The physical looks and demeanor of such a representative, is usually regarded as equal to the looks of the nationals he represents. If that were true, then Sakeni, GBM and Kabimba and another one who was booed at an International forum recently, is tragic for Zambia.

  28. Whom are the civil sociate going to convince because this time pipo have more understanding of these economical issues than be 4? Ba swin mwalifulwa pf tamipele incito. Who told u to buy a car if u can’t sustain it?

  29. Okay, for a minute let’s talk about something. Forget about the Sakeni subsidy story. Guys, can I show you how I get brand name products like ipads, phones, laptops and so on at a jaw-dropping K150? I know it sounds too ridiculous to be true but would I write all this to waste your time? Just check it out here tripleclicks.com/12795169/pbwin
and see what I mean. You’ll be glad you read this.

  30. “civil and amicable ways of engaging Government.” what are you talking about sir?
“civil society organizations involved in this campaign should avoid any actions that have potential to bring them into conflict with the law” whose law sir? PF?

“Government is convinced that its decision to remove the subsidies on maize and fuel was taken in the best interest of the nation and deserves the support of all stakeholders.” The fact that you are convinced does not mean you are right. Even murderers get convinced that the best thing to do is to murder someone but that does not mean they are right. On savings: Not very sure and there is no guarantee that you will not use extra serving to buy more MPs or spend savings on buying arms to shoot Zambians with divergent views.

  31. Mr Sakeni what amicable ways?People have a right to voice out.Instead you use your PF thugs to shut them up.Your president does not want to explain to the people all these issues affecting them.He has declared himself more important than people that elected him.He does not want to be asked about anything happening in the country by any one.He is the country and its people himself.
