Zambia impress on Janza’s first day

Share

Honour Janza made a promising start as Zambia coach on Saturday in his first game in charge after a 3-1 home win over Sudan.

Zambia were convincing in their first home game at their new home base at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.

The highlight of the friendly also saw Rainford Kalaba handed the captaincy for the first time and led by example with a great performance in midfield.

Nkana defender Christopher Munthali put Zambia ahead in the 14th minute.

TP Mazembe striker Given Singuluma headed in the second in the 34th minute to give Zambia a 2-0 lead into the break.

Sudan mounted an early second half wave before Zambia came back strongly in the last 20 minutes.

However, Ibrahim Salah scored for Sudan from the penalty spot in two minutes deep into stoppage time but Mukuka Mulenga fired in from close range a minute later to put the result beyond doubt.

Munyau (Nsabata), Kabaso, Munthali (Adrian Chama), Nyambe, Roderick Kabwe,
Kalaba, Donashano Malama, Musakanya (Situmbeko), Fwayo (Kampamba), Sakuwaha (Kalengo), Singuluma (Mukuka)

  1. Zambian sports reporting at its best; a new stadium is opened and not a word about the number in attendance…was it filled to full capacity? what was the atmosphere? what is the difference between this venue with the Ndola venue?

    • @Jay Jay but ine ulansekesha, the stadium was officially opened way back by Sata who never attended the ceremony. You questions where answered that day.
Today was about Janza and the TP Mazembe players, plus Mukuka Mulenga and Munyao. You should have asked about those people, not the fans who attended. How can atmosphere be electrifying with the PF activities everyday?

    • Let he the coach preach on discipline to our sportsmen. This is our greatest enemy. Commitment to duty and hard work can make Zambia a champion again. what makes mercy or mesi whatever his name is so special is devotional to his career. He knows whats good for him. He will not worst time in reckless beer drinking and other activities to hinder what he wants in life. Trying to learn new skills is on his menu just as they say there is no end in learning.

    • Hope they are paying him the same salary that they have been paying the previous coaches, including all the benefits. Zambia needs well motivated local coaches.

  2. Seldom do I watch a friendly to the end; this one, I had to—it was a thriller.
It was like watching some Euro championship: the skill, the speed, the co-ordination, the finishing.
And the last goal was simply spectacular! Breath-taking!

Looks like our winning national team is making a come-back, and maintaining the pace can see us lifting another big one, or even the biggest one of them all.
If you can score and defend, you’re a good team—Zambia did just that!
It’s a mammoth task holding Sudan on the counterattack.
Zambia used to lose games in that way—scoring in the first half; losing in the second.

For today, I won’t mention any names, for the success of this game lay on one pillar: team work—that’s football.

Keep it up boys and stay sharp for the next game. We need to…

  3. Good stadium and good performance by Zambia. Now imwe BA FAZ why should we use one gate to gain entry into the stadium. I know the stadium was not filled to the brim and people were free to roam about but I was shocked to read FREE SITTING on my ticket. I think you can do better at this time and age. I want to buy a ticket and know that my seat is guaranteed.

    • Thanks for your update…You asking to much from the empty suits in Football House…that one gate entrance has got my alarm bells ringing in turns of fire safety.

    • …not only fire safety but also football hooliganism….imagine the stampede which would happen…
..I hope tomorrow’s LT weekly pictures will have more of the game, stadia, fans…….

  4. Janza is the man of the moment. I told my coleagues that this man is highly qualified, so it won’t be problem for him to adapt. Now the only problem we have in our national team is these guys who are not scoring or not playig at their respective professional clubs. players like Mayuka, Chris Katongo, Chamanga etc. I don’t think we still need their services at the rate this young lads are playing.

Very few players should be included in that team, i.e Sunzu, Nathan, Chisamba Lungu, Lubambo Musonda and Evans Kangwa.

Even Mweene most of times he concedes silly goals. But look at Munyao; the guy is briliant in goal. He doesn’t concede unnecessary goals. For he should the first choice goal keeper.

  5. It was a good show.Janza should select his own team, just as he did.As for FAZ the K80 was on the high side,it was sad to see the stadium half empty.
