NEWLY APPOINTED Justice Minister Edgar Lungu says he would today meet Attorney General to discuss the way forward on the Constitution making process.

In a news item on ZNBC yesterday, Mr Lungu said Government was committed to the Constitution making process and today’s meeting with the Attorney General was an indication of Government’s commitment to the process.

“We will make sure that we deliver the Constitution but we will need all stakeholders to the process to be sober on this issue,”

“We should not be pushed on this issue because as you may know, we in Government are also people, give us a chance to work peacefully,” Mr Lungu said.

And United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema has called for the release of the draft Constitution saying a good Constitution was a panacea for the numerous economic, social and political ills being witnessed in the country.

In a statement to media houses yesterday Mr Hichilema said the continued with holding of the constitution had given birth to the disregard for the rule of law and other destruction of democratic structures, systems and ideals which Zambia fought so hard to attain.

“If anybody is accused of any wrong doing, we hope to see justice and the law being pursued in the confines of our written down legislation,”.

“The Might of the state should not supersede the right of the people. Our laws define us and what we hope to do and achieve as a people, and in times of conflict should be the supreme authority on which we should all rely on,” Mr Hichilema said.

He urged Zambians to embark on a nation-building agenda where the rule of law would be central to the task.

Mr Hichilema also called for the eradication of violence in Zambia which he described as a cancer.

He said the upholding of the rule of law was not a privilege but a right for everyone in Zambia.

He said the rule of law must be applied equally and on the principle of ‘no one is above the law’. A fair application of the rule of law should be expected and guaranteed to all people by the state

  1. Please we know, no good will come out of this. its the same difference!!!! You guys just need to go, the whole lot of you and leave the running of the affairs of the country to men and women who have the common zambians’ interests at heart. Dont think that we can all be fooled by just firing one unpopular politician. We dont care even if you buy the whole country a bag of mealie meal, we just want you gone. Leave in peace twapapata ba mambala imwe!!!

    • It would be foolish and naive to think that, the dismissal of one minister will change the entire political path of the PF for two reasons
1.Didnt these same ministers attend cabinet meetings where the constitution making process was discussed?so why then didn’t they object to the stance taken on by their fellow minister regarding the constitution making process.did they not have access to print and electronic media to hear what the people of this land were saying?
2.If indeed they only went along with what Kabimba was saying to them in those meetings as some would suggest, because they did not know any better, then they must all be as vacuous as the naive people who believe things will change now,for easily eating up his lies and often coming to his defense when queried by media e.g Sata

    • I have a strong feeling and conviction that the hindrance on this constitution wasn’t HEMCS who may have been mislead to continue saying we do have a functional Constitution, because we do.

With a hidden agenda, Kabimba thought he will last up to 2016, and hope to take Leadership on the current flawed constitution. I have no doubt in my mind, that with Kabimba having been HUMILIATED, we will have a New Constitution pretty soon.

    • Mr Lungu, I hope you have learnt a lesson from the Kabimba debacle. Your allegiance should always be to the people of Zambia and not Sata. Sata can fire you anytime but if Zambians are happy with you they will flood the streets demanding your reinstatement instead of celebrating your dismissal. Always remember that it is important to do the right thing for the country no matter how unpopular that might be with the appointing authority.

    • FAKE FAKE THIS I A LIE KA LUNGU WANT TO PLAY A SHEEP AND ACLEAN MAN , THIS GUY ATTENDED CABINET MEETINGS WHERE KABIMBA ARROGANTLY WITH THE BLESSINGS OF SATA REFUSED TO ENACT A PEOPLE DRIVEN CONSTITUTION, THE stumbling block HERE IS sata the earlier he dies the better for mother zambia

    • This is really a listening govt, well done Hon Lungu now that the PF govt has made this gesture to discuss the same matter over the constitution, these UPND cadres are screaming foul because they are running out of ammunition, what desperation from these UPND minions of hell, what will they now say, their true colours are becoming clearer for all to see.

    • Uncle dizzy in action!!! viva ba Eddie Lungu!!! in the new constitution,, fridays half days,,, and mondays work starts at 10hrs,,, so that people can drink properly without being disturbed,,,, Zambians will be more free now,,, beer will also be in the courts of Law

    • Ba LT why put a progressive statement from Edgar in the same story with tantrums from Akainde Ichilema?

You must have a tantrum corner or create one for such immature people

    • If PF manages to deliver the constitution before 2016, they will bury Kabimba for good. If they don’t, the removal of Kabimba from PF leadership will be seen as being on tribal lines. That will qualify PF to be a Bemba only party.

  2. So Kamimba was suffocating even his fellow cabinet members! It seems people will now do what is right to Kamimba’s shame.

  3. Much as we appreciate this move,it looks like it is aimed at portraying WK as a stumbling block to its release. However my concern is,how possible is it that one person can hold the whole party at ransom and delay the delivery of the constitution? Is there anything fishy here? Otherwise thank you Hon Lungu for that move,we are hopeful that we will get our constitution soon. Our plea is, please let it not be doctored, because then it will not represent the aspirations of the people of Zambia. This would be as good as not having it all.

    • What is going on here? Why should the Attorney General be Lungu’s first point of contact? Why not take the draft Constitution to Cabinet, of which the AG is an ex-officio member, for the way forward? After all, we were told that Cabinet had not sat to determine the way forward. Has that position changed? What about Sata’s unilateral decree that we do not need a new Constitution but mere amendments to the existing one. Has that position changed? Why the Attorney General please? Do you want to make him the next Kabimba (scapegoat), portraying him as the stumbling block to having a new Constitution?

  4. My fellow zambians, I do not intend to be off topic but I have to travel home this thursday to attend a funeral. I have a 3 year old kid here in Canada and I want to travel with her and my Canadian wife. This funeral came out of no where and had to make travel arrangements at a moments notice. My question is what do I need besides my daughter’s passport to get into zambia.Do i need to travel with her birth certificate? I tried calling the zambia immigration but didnt get much help there. would anybody tell me if its possible to obtain a visa for my daughter and wife upon arrival at KK airport? If anybody can please help me with information and my apology for been off topic. Thank you

    • Your daughter can travel to Zambia on a Canadian passport. A Zambian visa can be obtained on arrival at KK airport, it costs $50.
However, you can ask the immigration officer to grant your daughter a “section 3” which is a multiple entry visa.
That’s what we did travelling from the UK with our kids.

    • @lwipa
while i feel sorry for your loss,,,but your writing made me laugh,,,ati `this funeral came out of no where`,,, do funerals come from some where?

i think @Kenzema has good advice for you,, birth certificates dont work in Zambia,,,,,otherwise contact Ba Nevers mumba he would know a thing or two about being in canada

    • @fake generalgustav iwe mwaponya kwe?? Umu guys alefwaya ukwisheba fye.. nomba mule batokaa insele??Iwe chi gustav mwaiche mwakwata ama bolo kwati ……..

    • Condolences. To answer your question quickly, yes. You can get the visa upon arrival. Simply present her passport and birth certificate to the authorities at the airport. The immigration website has all that information. Safe flight and God bless you!

    • Lwipa, my advice is that travel with your daughter’s birth certificate to avoid inconveniences. If for exaple you do travel via, South Africa, they will not allow you even if you are just transiting there. They just recently introduced this law there. So you are better off traveling with your daughter’s birth certificate as a safe gurard against inconveniences. Thanks

    • Make sure you also take address the necessary health requirements. Anti Malaria, yellow fever vaccinations if applicable etc

    • My advice to you is stop marrying white women!!!chaba shani kanshi, every time you guys get an education or some money, you want to marry white women, instead of picking a zambian wife.Just marrying your own women would alleviate the living standards of one person or in some cases a family.but there you are marrying white women and investing all your knowledge in a foreign people.but you are not the only one, its the way we have been programmed by the west.our epitome of success is also measured by marrying a foreigner preferably a white and this is on a subconscious level.we dont even realise it,we think its love. Most black NBA,NFL stars have married white women. Most prolific hollywood black actors have married white women.Question is why do we see this phenomenon mostly with blacks

  5. DRUNKEN Master let’s hope its not Just for formality or just a way of showing that you can do better than winter. Because the Issue of the constitution was not delayed by Winter but Sata who had several times said that Zambia as a constitution and do not need any. He even became mocking Zambian remember the issue of Animal Constitution. Unless if you tell me that you are so amnesia? All else you risk being fired like Winter.

  6. Look at this, and quote: ““We should not be pushed on this issue because as you may know, we in Government are also people, give us a chance to work peacefully.” With this qualification, you can see already the tricks continue. I blame Zambians for being taken advantage of by gullible lawyers and a train station sweeper. As the Catholic doctrine goes, if shit happens, you deserve it!

  7. Lungu is lying !!! Ths is a Blame Game after knowing tht PF was ‘Almost Rejected’ Build on the image guys otherwise 2016 can b Difficult for you. Human beings r AMAZING !!

  8. DRUNKEN master don’t think that all Zambians a dull like PF cardres! WINTER was not the stumbling block to the Enactment of the New constitution but Sata who had the audacity to monk Zambians with Words Like “Animal Constitution” unless you tell as that you have not be attending those meeting due to HO or you were not paying attention due to same HO. Don’t rush you will crush like winter.

  9. Well done Hon Lungu by discussing this matter, it shows that your govt is really a listening government and now these UPND minions of hell are begining to panic and scamper like the mindless trouble makers they are because they know they have no other amunition to use against the hard working PF govt, watch how they will begin to attack the govt over the same.

    • UPND stood firm on the matter at hand. Mind you there are other things you need to address, so PF should work. How can a parent boast about feeding his own children?

  10. Ubu fontini after so many years in Diaspora… call the Zambian embassy / mission for information in regards to your travel.. These entities are e not for decoration but for such needs when their citizens need… and please go to school while in Canada and stop showing your ignorance Mambala iwe

    • Mbuzi have some manners. How do you just start insulting instead of giving advice. I believe you have not had an encounter with Zambian missions abroad or if you are abroad, you are the Zambians that just disappear and have no contact with their embassy. Zambian missions abroad are not help at least from my experience.

    • you really a mbuzi you,yo friend is askin for help you busy sayin yo mbuzi thing.you shud be grazing b4 commentin here..i d i o t

  11. @General Gustav Grobla…..

Thank God Zambia has more friendlier and civilised people than you.

We welcome our visitors, wherever they come from. Please do not listen to mentally deranged (Not mentally sick-those are very good people who just happen to be unfortunate – we love them) thugs like Gen. Gustav Grobla.

Thank you Kenzema, that is patriotism and Godly.

  12. I have just started my research thesis: ” The role of Population gullibility in sustaining the African version of Democracy”.

  13. “….give us a chance to work peacefully,” Mr Lungu said.

Just work hard and deliver what was promised, otherwise there’s no “peace” for wicked PF.

  14. @5.8 zagaze
    There is a theory:
Western Blacks tend to get married to whites because of a deep seated complex. Black men in western world must first fight the Alpha male to gain equality in work and society in general. Black men are indoctrinated into these multi-racial marriages through TV
And advertisements showing white women as desirable. There are not many black females in positive roles in films although it’s getting better. Black males in these multi-racial relationships tend to justify this by arguing it is ‘a preference’ not racial. Sadly this leaves a lot of unmarried black women especially in UK as White males do not reciprocate in this pattern. Most Caribean men will marry White women, but for some reason only have children out of wedlock with their Black…
