Government has released K1.2 million to kick-start the construction of chiefs’ palaces in Northern Province.

Northern Province Permanent Secretary Hlobotha Nkunika said the funds released through the ministry of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs will be used to construct housing units at senior Chief Nsokolo of Mbala, Senior Chieftainess Chungu of Luwingu and Chief Mumpolokoso.

Mr. Nkunika was speaking today when he led a team of government officers to inspect the site earmarked for the construction of the new palace at senior Chief Nsokolo’s palace.

He assured chiefs in the province that government was committed to provide decent accommodation for traditional leaders, adding that more housing units will be built in every chiefdom in the province.

Mr. Nkunika added that the housing units which will also include the queen’s quarters and offices, will initially be powered by solar energy before joining the national power service lines.

He reiterated government’s commitment to improving the welfare of chiefs’ countrywide.

And Senior Chief Nsokolo has commended government for striving to improve the well-being of traditional leaders in the country.

Chief Nsokolo has since appealed to government to connect water in his chiefdom as his subjects are forced to draw water at far flung areas.

Mr. Nkunika was accompanied by Mbala District Commissioner Best Kabulembe, Northern Province Chiefs’ Affairs Officer Wallace Moonga and other senior government officials.

  1. PREDICTABLE PREFERENTIAL REGIONAL SELECTIVE DEVELOPMENT.
EVERYTHING IS THE SAME AND REGIONAL AND YET THIS IS SATAS LEGACY OR VIDION THAT EL SHOULD CARRY ON WITH.
ALL OF A SUDDEN PF ONLY SEES PALACES IN NORTHERN PROVINCE?
Let those with eyes see. Come 20th pf out.

  2. There goes corrupt PF! PF does wrong things without shame! The timing is completely wrong. I hope the Chiefs can see through the deception!

  3. So the government should come to a standstill because of elections, if this project was started in the western or southern province you would have said PF wants votes from these regions learn to be objective people

  4. Oh fabulous! We don’t have to worry too much about Chief Mukuni….he can wait for HH to be in power ( which is never….) to get a new palace!

  5. “A palace is a grand residence, especially a royal residence or the home of a head of state or some other high-ranking dignitary, such as a bishop or archbishop”. (Wiki)

Hope these standard 3-bedroom houses that GRZ is putting up for the thieves oops chiefs will fit the bill in grandeur. Would prefer that they re-named as the word Palace is most certainly a misnomer.

  6. K1.2MILLION IS ONLY ENOUGH FOR ONE PALACE NOT THE NUMBER THEY LISTED. JUST TO ADVICE YOU- PLAN THE CONSTRUCTION OF THESE PALACES OBJECTIVELY, WISELY AND WITH TOURISM IN MIND. WELL DESIGNED AND CONSTRUCTED, THESE PALACES CAN BE A CROWD PULLER OF TOURISTS FROM AROUND THE WORLD JUST LIKE BUCKINGHAM PALACE. IN FACT THE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF THESE PALACES SHOULD BE TENDERED FOR BIDDING INTERNATIONALLY. THIS IS IF REALLY ZAMBIA IS SERIOUS ABOUT TOURISM.
