A TEACHER in Chilanga has been stoned to death by villagers who suspected him of practicing witchcraft.

Jones Ndhlovu was found dancing naked in one of the villagers’ field. The field belongs to a couple only identified as the Simbeyes.

Lusaka Province Police Chief Charity Katanga said Mr Ndhlovu, a teacher at Chipapa Primary School, was in his 50’s and died in the early hours of yesterday after being stoned by angry villagers.

Mr Ndhlovu was stoned to death by villagers who suspected him of being a wizard.

“We have a case of a teacher who was lynched to death in the early hours of today (yesterday) in Chilanga. According to the information we received, the teacher by the name of Jones Ndhlovu was found dancing naked in someone’s field and was stoned to death by the villagers,” Ms Katanga said.

She said in interview yesterday that around 03:00 hours, the owners of the field received information that there was someone who was dancing naked in their field.

Immediately after receiving the information, the owners of the field rushed to Chilanga Police post to report the matter.

While the owners were on their way to the police post, villagers from surrounding areas pounced on Mr Ndhlovu whom they beat to death.

Ms Katanga said when the police and the Simbeyes arrived at the scene; they found Mr Ndhlovu lying unconscious while bleeding profusely.

She said Mr Ndhlovu was identified by fellow teachers.

No arrest had been made as police found no one at the crime scene.

She however, said police had since instituted investigations to bring Mr Ndhlovu’s assailants to book.

  1. Its the Pf cadres who killed that Upnd Satanist. They’re many witches in Upnd cos thats the condition they ‘ve set to be a member.

    • The quality of reporting here leaves a lot of questions or gaps. Who saw this man dancing at 3 am and what were they doing themselves at that time in that area? How far is that field from the nearest homes? Who gave the owners of the field the message that someone was dancing in their field. This looks and sounds more of a metal case than anything else. The person/s who first spotted the man need to give a clear explanation.

    • @wise one, your questions will be the basis of the police investigation but as you rightly say the there are a number of gaps.

    • At 03:00 in Zambia is too DARK to see a person, and especially if they are naked. Even a naked white person can’t be seen in the field naked. Ba Simbeye mwaipaya Teacher.
With our dull P.Force they will believe the story of witchcraft.

    • It’s really pathetic in Zambia. We have gone back o stone age era and above all we are heartless. We give respect when we are killing animals but to our fellow human beings we are animals. How different are we from Al shabab

  2. @Sponge bob- I’m a staunch supporter of UPND since its inception but have never heard of that! Try Dandy Crazy may be in PF.

  3. The man was just probably a mental patient. The state of mental health services in Zambia is quite pathetic. Not much is being done to not only treat the patients but enlighten the public concerning the plight of mental patients.

The Mental Health Specialists should pull up their socks!

    • I agree with you. There are a lot of cases of undiagonised mental illnesses in Zambia, and also the rest of the world. The recent case of the Germanwings air crash involved a mentally ill co-pilot. If the mighty Germans could not figure him out, what about poor villagers in Chilanga and their naked teacher.

    • That’s a very valid point. Zambia is still backward, there certainly should be attitude improvement. The stagnation and loyalty to witchcraft has blinded many into seeing things from an advanced perspective.

  4. Farking morons. The man was probably suffering from some mental illness, or he may just have been drunk. This belief in witchcraft needs to be gotten rid of

  5. Better to be a mental health patient than to be an angry hyena full of hate and always wishing the president dead. That hate you ‘ve exhibited so far against the president because yo chief angry hyena lost to him are more of a worry and dangerous to society than a mental health patient being under care.

    • Just chill! Lungu will die on his on. He has brought his health to its current state. He does not need a witch to finish him off. Just lots of vodka and not taking his prescribed medications.

    • Ba sponge. You sound like you are in a lot of pain in support of lungu and PF. You are educated am sure of that so what makes you think that if i do not support Lungu then am UPND? I do not like Lungus administration BUT i DO NOT hate him at all. Wishing him dead? pleeease

  6. Mr Jonas could have been drunk, confused or indeed a wizard. The truth will only come out after police investigates the matter through relatives and neighbours. But a naked person dancing in the field around 03hrs can not be spared by fellow Africans

  7. I don’t like this mob justice nonsense that goes on in Africa. No one has the right to take away anyone’s life just because the crowd say so.

  8. This really is a sad reading and coming on the weekend where forgiveness should be preached in a country that insists on calling itself a christian nation.

No one thought to find out that the man could and may have been having mental issues or troubled in one way or the other. Why are we so quick to judge?
I mean as a christian nation are we any different than those extremists who murder innocents all in the name of religion?

  9. This is the best way of handling wizards. The law on witchcraft is presently weak as it was crafted by people who were also practicing witchcraft or were benefitting from witchcraft acts. Witches deserve to be treated like any murderer.

  10. Teachers of late are well learned most of all are graduates no promotion, no change of salary scale. This man must have been a college certificate holder, upgraded and got a degree in primary education went to his same station, no promotion, salary grading remained the same as he was before he got a degree. These studies that teachers are doing are self financing with a host of nkongole kaloba from lending institutions. Basically his salary is zero, and now with the increase in retirement age, any hope of filling that vacant position of retired head teacher gone, a teacher obviously ruptures into ego-break down. These are serious mental punctures, am just saying.

  11. The police should just have rounded up the whole village and charged them with murder. How do you kill someone just because he was dancing naked? If he had no mental illness, he most probably was drunk, may be took too much vodka.

  12. This is simple – Simbeye killed that man at 3pm and went to report the case to Police afterwards. That’s why they could not find anyone to arrest at the scene of the incident because nobody else knew. Ask Simbeye properly (with a beating) and he will surely talk!

  13. I think uyu Simbeye azakamba mushe ku sogolo. Who reported to him and who saw the mob stoning the dancing teacher?

  14. Maybe he was just horny and waiting for somebody’s wife to devour. Dancing naked at 3AM…..hmmmm vintu…

  15. Another wizard was dancing but this time dressed at kafue political rally and pipo were just watching and shouting forward. Now we have known the treatment for these wizards / freemansons, next time we shall stone him to death.

  16. Story not convincing. The way I know the reporting quality in Zambia the poor guy may not have been dancing at all; perhaps skipping crop beds to get to some point. That said, it is paradoxical that the more religious a society becomes, the more bigoted and superstitious they get. This is the case in Zambia. Oh! And don’t forget they also do get randy over very flimsy situations. Good luck, Christian nation!

  17. Complete the story was he found naked at the scene or not. Since he was said to be dancing naked those who saw him at 03:00hrs what where the doing at that late hour. And who phoned the owner of the field its very easy to find the killers of the so called teacher.

  18. Story not adding up. They saw someone dancing at 03, They went to report to the owner who didn’t go and verify but rushed to the police. Upon arrival the man was bleeding to death without anyone on the scene? Too many unanswered questions.
The Simbeyes should held to assist investigate. The people that reported to them should also be questioned. What were they doing, coming from or going to? They need an alabi. They are equally suspects, if indeed they exist.

  19. Sharia law being implemented in Chilanga now. It is a pity that our people can behave in this manner and take the law into their own hands. Nobody deserve to killed in that manner regardless of what they have had. People must be given chance to exculpate themselves. This is why we have the law enforcement agencies and the courts. Chabulanda saana ba Ndhlovu mwe. MHSRIP

  20. We have gone back to the dark ages! Stoning a fellow human being! This is a mental patient. Round up everyone who cast a stone and arrest them. Brainless, excitable prats!

  21. Backward nation atase these are the same *****s that are allowed to vote hahahahaha, forget development, Africa will never rise to its full potential too many kamushiz its either we put everyone up to speed or agree that we are on a journey with no destination.

Lessons not learnt in blood are easily forgotten,

  22. The Villagers must be arrested because no one in this land has been allowed to take law in their own hands. I am sure they did that out of jealous coupled with tribal inclinations. They can not stone their own based on their stupid claims. Teachers dispatched to ‘foreign lands’ other than their villages of origin are abused by the local villages. The GOVT must cage the whole village for such senseless brutal murder of an innocent Zambian. NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW.
