CHIEF Government spokesperson, Chishimba Kambwili says some opposition political parties are working with the Post Newspaper to maliciously discredit President Edgar Lungu and the Government.
Mr Kambwili has lashed out at what he calls ‘loose cannons’ whom he accused of being used by Rainbow Party president Wynter Kabimba to damage the image of President Lungu, the Government and the Patriotic Front (PF).
Mr Kambwili, who is also Information and Broadcasting Services Minister, said Mr Kabimba allegedly failed to articulate Government policies when he was a minister.
He said that it was disheartening that Alliance for Democracy and Development (ADD) president Charles Milupi, Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) president Edith Nawakwi, 4th Revolution party leader Eric Chanda and the United Party for National Development (UPND) were being used by Mr Kabimba to build the image of the Rainbow Party at the expense of their own parties.
He said the people that were being used by Mr Kabimba and Post Newspaper editor-in-chief Fred M’membe were the same people whom the Post had abused not long ago.
Mr Kambwili said Government was aware of Mr Kabimba and Mr M’membe’s maneuvers to attack Mr Lungu’s Government and damage its reputation to raise the image of the Rainbow Party.
Mr Kambwili, however, said the same maneuvers would not work.
Government was aware that Mr Kabimba and Mr M’membe were meeting with some PF Members of Parliament (MPs) to work against it but the good thing was that those MPs were not a factor in PF and could be donated to the Rainbow Party.
He accused Mr Kabimba of positioning himself for Presidency long before President Michael Sata died alleging that Mr Kabimba became bitter when he lost the bid to contest the Presidency on the PF ticket.
Mr Kambwili challenged Mr Kabimba to tell the nation where he was during the funeral and burial of Mr Sata.
“Did you see Wynter Kabimba at the funeral or burial of Mr Sata? He should tell us where he was and how he was fired as secretary general of the PF,” Mr Kambwili said.
He said that Mr M’membe was bitter that Mr Lungu had told him to pay back the tax which his newspaper owed the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) as well as the loan which was owed to the Development Bank of Zambia (DBZ).
On the calls by Mr Milupi to impeach Mr Lungu because of revising the mine tax regime, Mr Kambwili said Mr Milupi should be sober and also be ashamed of himself for changing goal posts because he was supporting Mr Lungu recently.
Mr Kambwili said he did not fear Mr Kabimba and is on record to have told him off several times even when Mr Sata was alive.
On the dropping of the Kwacha against the dollar, Mr Kambwili wondered why people were heaping the blame on Mr Lungu when the dollar had gained against other currencies in countries where Mr Lungu was not the President.
It’s a legion of disillusioned aberationists believing that there would be political capital and success in hatred, malice and subversive acts.

Their is a distinction between government information minister and political party spokes person. It seems Chimbwi-li has no clue or is deliberately using government resources to support party functions. For the first time I agree with Kambwili; how can UPND agree to be used by The Post to get at Lungu? This paper has never been fair to UPND, they are in fact the ones who have made the tribal tag to stick for continually and mockingly refering to it as a bantustan party. Mmembe is sly, he’s using UPND to annihilate PF and prop up Kabimba.
I don’t agree with the statement that the opposition are being used by the Post Newspaper. I believe that what the opposition are saying actually serves the post’s need very well because they want to survive too. Mmembe knows how to play the mind games and what sells his paper and as such he will go a length to get it. Besides there’s nothing wrong with the post giving the opposition a space to be heard since government media is controlled by Kambwili.
The opposition continue to say what they have been saying about PF. The difference now is that the Post has switched sides and is now reporting on what the opposition are saying. It is not the role of the opposition to support a rotten ruling party.

@The Engineer: get this – the sole raison d’etre of a political party is to take over control of govt so that it can implement its own programmes. If a political party does not aim to do that then it’s just an NGO or a political pressure group. Part of the means of achieving that objective is by criticising govt policies, including the President’s stance on issues. If a political party agrees with the ruling party it should allign itself or merge with the ruling party, as Frank Bwalya has done. That’s Politics 101.

Greece has recorded a budget surplus for two years now, while Zambia has been recording a budget deficit. Greece announced last week that it will clear off its IMF loan of loan of $502m were as Zambia is failing to offset $250m oil debt to PTA bank. Zambians unlike people in Greece are able to voice out about there situation because they are well informed and the European union is concerned about the welfare of their members un like the African union which is a mere political club for presidents in Africa. UPND seems naïve at times. You have your battles to fight for. Kabimba was the one telling HH that he was bitter when he was in PF. Even if politics has no permanent enemies, it does not mean that you have to be naïve. Kabimba and Mmembe are equally bad for UPND. UPND has survived so far without them.

Instead of changing the costititution to accommodate 50%+1 threshold for a candidate to win elections, we should in fact go by constituencies. We also do not expect him to work miracles but what we are saying is that EL must get to grips with the key performance areas of his job and stop flying around. When is he going to fully understand the domestic issues assailing this country? Barack Obama stayed for almost a year in USA without going abroad, he was busy with his team working out measures to get the country out of its economic woes. And right now, the economy of USA has turned around. EL, please dig in and surely results will be seen at the end of the day. Its people who steal money to build homes they live in on illegal land to talk. Fat belly, dark and ugly and should really keep quiet. Well said Kambwili, indeed Mmembe is a mercenary who reaps where he did not sow. Go on supporting your Kabimba but i know for sure the battle will again be between HE Edgar Lungu and HH. The advice from Kambwili is hence timely because the past newspapers has no influence on the Zambian people! Smaller political parties don’t allow yourselves to be used by this well known mercenary fighting his personal battles masquerading as a journalist.
