Croc kills 16 year old

A grade six pupil of Mandenga Basic School in Chirundu has been killed after being attacked by a crocodile in the lower Zambezi River.

The boy, who has been identified as Leonard Mapulanga aged 16, was mauled by the reptile last Friday when he went swimming with his friends in the crocodile-infested Zambezi River.

Chirundu ward councillor, Gift Chanda, told ZANIS that the boy, whose body has since been buried, sustained fatal injuries from the attack.

Mr Chanda disclosed that the body of the boy was recovered a day after the attack by a named foreign investor who was fishing in the river.

“The remains of the deceased were discovered the following day by a white investor who found the reptile feasting on the body,’ he said.

According to Mr Chanda, the man gathered courage and jumped into the river, grabbed the reptile’s head and shouted for help until another man joined him and the two struggled and eventually overpowered the crocodile.

Mr Chanda said the reptile was retrieved from the river together with the body of the boy and taken to ZAWA offices where an official statement was made.

Meanwhile, the ward councillor has observed that more lives would be lost in the area if the population of crocodiles is not controlled.

Mr Chanda observed that residents were being forced to walk down to the river to bath and draw water for drinking and other domestic use due to poor supply of piped water in the township.

He has since appealed to government and the corporate world to quickly move in and assist with the drilling of boreholes in selected parts of the township.

    Iyoo, yali zanda kanshi.

Anyway come to think of it, when I was in grade 8, we had 2 guys aged 20. From villages. One of them didnt come back to start grade 9 because he married.

  6. MHSRIP. Well done investor ! If it was a chinese investor, he would have joined in the feast !

Why is the white dude always made out to be a ‘Action Movie Like’ hero. From the last quote sounds to me like the white dude shot the croc instead of wrestling with the beast.

  8. Villagers should be educated NOT to swim in the croc infested Zambezi river. A lot of people have been attacked by crocs of late. I think human nyama niyonzuna to crocs.
