Parliament heard today that the state has has no immediate plans to dissolve the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) and revert to the defunct National Agriculture Marketing Board (NAMBOARD).
Agriculture Minister, Brian Chituwo told Parliament, today, that government has been meeting with the FRA management to discuss important matters to make the agency more effective.
Dr. Chituwo was responding to a question raised by United Party for National Development (UPND) Choma Central Member of Parliament (MP) George Chazangwe who wanted to know whether government has plans to dissolve the FRA and bring back NAMBOARD.
The Agriculture Minister said the FRA has not failed to deliver to the expectations of the people of Zambia adding that for this reason there was no need to dissolve the agency.
He said programmes have been put in place to make sure that FRA does not fail the people of Zambia.
And Dr. Chituwo also said the government had put in place a process to procure as much local maize as possible this year.
He also added that measures are being put in place to empower small scale farmers in the country to eradicate hunger.
Dr. Chituwo said the government does not get refunded by the FRA but continues to subsidize in order to make the agency keep moving and deliver to the people of Zambia.
The Minister has also since encouraged the FRA to consider also purchasing other commodities other than maize to give to millers in the country.

The Govt should then give them enough support to continue. Otherwise dissolve FRA if you have better alternatives.
If FRA is performing up to its expectations, dissolve and retain NAMBOARD if its a better altrnative.

Hey Guys, somebody help me have another objective on this. I dont have anyone to talk to. Yesterday, I met my future father n law(well hope still)and it was all very nice. After a few minutes, we decide to go to the shops to get dad some things as hes going to zed tomorrow. So ine i remain in the car as they go in together, father and son. Wanted to get a CD in a clove compatment and i found my mans bank statements and for no reason( i really had no motive) decided to look at it. Yaba, before i knew it, he was standing beside the window and just said..that better not be fine.I got such a fright i hid it. He got pissed and started yelling at me and cursing so i realised..opps, i have f’d up
So i gave it back, hes dad came out of the shop and we both behaved and got into the car…he was so mad like i have never seen before..He couldnt take it anymore me being in the car so along the way, he pulled over and said, call a cab. How embarrased i was to the big man who had met me for the first time. I know i was wrong, and i have appologised several times but he wont talk to me. WHAT CAN I DO? Guys, some body should have told me bank statements is a no go area, i hope it doesnt break up our relationship. I love him dearly and well…i can only appologise so much.
Oh well, atleast i have said it out and he forgives me!!!…Am a regular blogger, just ashamed to reveal myself

UPND Leader Hakainde Hichilema confirmed the development to MUVI TV News today.
Mr. Hichilema says the letter is a reply to the one he wrote to the American President congratulating him on 4th November 2008, on his election victory.
The UPND Leader says the gesture by Mr. Obama is a sign that the American President is willing to work with the people of Africa to foster development.

Why would dissolving FRA and reverting to Namboard make any sense? Why did Namboard go in the first place for people to even start reconsidering it?

This guy Chitumwa or is it Chituwo, has really failed at MAFF. The other day he was complaining of how officers involved in fertiliser support programmes are stealing the commodity. What a shame and shock that was to me. Juniors or workers under your nose stealing and all you can do about it is to wail and weep. Where has the concept of being accountable for resources under ones arms gone to. Why not fire the culprits and then report to the masses or media. But the guy was just mourning about it. Fear of if i fire one of them then me too my deals may be exposed. Come on Ba Chituwo act and then tell us about it.

Namboard… its like everything that was set up by the Kaunda Administration was raised down, whether good or bad. those of our time am sure you recall how Ndola industrial area was a hive of activity. Jobs then were so easy to find. disolution are the many thing in Zambia
Its not a question of dissolving FRA and bring back Namboard simply coz RB used to be its CEO. No way. The thing is Namboard used to perform well but it was mismanaged by politians. With Swedish assistance came ZCF which did quite well but the Kaponyas who formed MMD had borrowed heavily & immediately the came into power ZCF was frustrated then came up with FRA. There are alot guys both in ruling and opposition who owe FRA billions of nkongole. Its a matter of timely and good funding, good management and avoiding political interference and Board members dancing to tunes of appointing authority.CEO is well qualified how many times a u going to change names for same roles/functions. Watch out

There’s no need to dissolve FRA. FRA needs to work on its weaknesses in mobilizing funds to buy farm produce on time & create strategic food reserves to last for at least five yrs unlike what we’re seeing now. FRA should also fight too much govt interference in its operations.
