Rural people fail value education says Sinazongwe DC

Rural News Rural people fail value education says Sinazongwe DC

Sinazongwe District Commissioner (DC) Laiven Apuleni has said lack of appreciation of education among people in the village has led to some parent’s failure to take their children to School.

Speaking at the official launch of the Maliko Community Development Trust, Mr.Apuleni attributed the low standards of education in the district to the cultural norms that encouraged boys to be in the “grazing fields” and girls to be in the “kitchen.”

In a speech read on his behalf by the District Administrative Officer (DAO) Sokoloko Daka he urged the trust together with the stakeholders to find ways of increasing the number of children to be accessing education.

Mr. Daka said this would be done by encouraging more community Schools where they are few Schools or non existent and assisting communities to compliment expansions programmes for already existing Schools so that more pupils could attend.

“There is need for this trust to try and sensitise these people to live with changing times and to try to encourage them to educate there children,” Mr. Daka said.

The DAO assured Chief Sinazongwe that government was ready to work with such trusts that were development oriented.

He pointed out that it was encouraging for the Chief to take a leading role in complementing government efforts to address problems that were affecting the communities.

Sinazongwe Council Vice Chairperson Fisher Zimana thanked the chief for coming up with an initiative aimed at eradicating poverty and improving the general livelihood of Sinazongwe people.

Mr. Zimana who is also Malima ward Councilor observed that the Council was failing to satisfy people’s expectation because of inadequate resources and hoped the initiation of the decentralisation policy would improve the scenario.
