Kalusha Bwalya has denied reports today linking him to the Zimbabwe national team job after Kickoff.com this morning posted on its site that he had applied for The Warriors job.

Bwalya told Kickoff.com that he have not at anytime filed in an application for the head coaches job with the Zimbabwe national team.

UNDER 23 IN MAAMBA

The Zambia Under-23 team are in Maamba in the Southern Province where they are on a week-long training camp ahead of their Olympic Games football tournament Group B qualifier against Senegal to be played on October 13 in Dakar.

14 local players were today joined in camp by three other home-based call-ups who missed the first two days of training due to club commitments with Zesco United and Red Arrows on Wednesday.

The three are goalkeeper Jacob Banda of Zesco including Red Arrows defender Joseph Zimba and midfielder Timothy Mbewe.

The team is due to play a series of training games with a Southern Province select team while in Maamba although the technical bench have yet to confirm the match dates.

The Under-23 currently lead Group B on 7 points from three games played one more than Cote d’Ivoire who face bottom placed Mali while Senegal are third.

Peter Kaumba’s team drew 1-1 with Senegal in August when they met in the first leg at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.

  1. Bwalya denies link to Zim coaching position

Zambian football legend Kalusha Bwalya has denied any link whatsoever to the Zimbabwean coaching position.

In a telephone conversation with Kick Off Bwalya says, “I know absolutely nothing about any link to the Zimbabwean coaching job ahead of the 2010 World Cup and African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

“I have no intention of taking up a coaching position in the near future as I am focusing on the 2010 World Cup. I can assure you that there is no truth to the coaching story/rumour whatsoever,” Bwalya says.

Bwalya is an ambassador for the Fifa 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

  2. Kalusha alebepafye. He applied for that job. There is no smoke without fire, even a ZIFA official confirmed this. We all know that Kalusha wants to be everywhere and doing everything. You never know what this guy wants.

  3. Kalu is known for dumping. He dumped Maureen Nkandu plus nomwana, abikapo na bugga plus nabana, akokanyapo uku dumpinga nationa team plus Muloonga. Nomba fishi alekana ati tacitile apply? Then let him sue ba Kick-off ngabufi babepele. Ba Kalu, muleke ukupaupa nokucita increase global fatherless children.

  4. Well I support Kalu denying this story. Zambians being jealous people, you never know who would put spanners in Kalu’s ideas to coach Zim.As a matter of fact, this issue is between him and ZIFA for now.Once he is hired, then it will be public information. Why should people meddle in his affairs. You never appreciated him when he was Tech. Director for the Chipolopolo.

  5. there is nothing wrong with him applying for the post..its not his fault that you same zambian fans didnt want him to continue as coach after the nations cup, so if u dnt want to appreciate him its better he goes some where he will be appreciated..his a free man let him coach whoever he wants….

  6. Indeed theres nothing wrong with him applying for the job if he is interested.
What i would like to know however, is what would happen to his FAZ Vice Presidency if he got the zim coaching job, knowing how much he likes power. Would he resign or again take us thru a period of guessing what his next step would be.

  7. he will obivously resign as the veep cause it will be impossible two work for two seperate football associations..does anyone know where benard makufi and gift kampamba are…

  8. Namibia Gear Up For Morocco Friendly

Namibia are preparing for a friendly match against Morocco this month and have announced a squad of twenty-nine players.

The Brave Warriors will play Morocco in Rabat on 17 October.

Both teams will use the match in preparation for the 2008 African Nations Cup in Ghana.

The Namibians pulled a 3-2 victory over Ethiopia during their final group match in September to qualify for the finals ahead of favorites DR Congo.

Coach Ben Bamfuchile has called-up key players like Denmark-based midfielder Heinrich Isaacs and Henrico Botes, who plays in South Africa for Platinum Stars.

The pair had missed key Nations Cup qualifier matches as a result of injury but are expected to return and boost the squad in the friendly against their North African counterparts.

Morocco had a smooth qualification for the Nations Cup from a three-team that included Zimbabwe and Malawi.

    and wat are zambia doing?

I know you are very excited about this story. You seem to be an Anti-Kalu Addict. Cool down, my man. Let me give you the data. You’ve got it all wrong.

Kalusha never damped the zambia national team. He was forced out of the job because of constitutional issues regarding his dual role and veep and coach. He had to chose between the 2 role. He chose that of veep. That is his prerogative. It must be respected.

Secondly, there is no such thing as “fatherless children”. This only exists in your head!! You need to be lectured on the difference between “Parenting” and “Fatherhood”. You are mixing the two.

Anyway, this is just another manifestation of the PHD syndrome which had held this country by the neck. Leave the man alone.

  10. #11

Mwaice born fyakubatu, wimbala plz. You idol Kalu alibutuka abana nabakashi nokutolamo umu boer who chewed Collins Mbesuma cash. Anyway, you are still young to let you hand touch your ears. Anyway, it’s good to see you back after a while when kalampa was cramped by Zesikolo

  11. Guys as much as I agree that Kalu is selfish. The issue here is that Kalu can do whatever he wants. We cant stop him from applying for the Zim job. In addition, we have no right to be jealous he is a free man and he can do whatever he choses.

  12. Its not that we are interfering with his affairs. Why deny when you have applied for the position? There is nothing to hide about. Limbi aletina ati application yakwe nga yafauka bakamumwenamo. Kulanda fye ichishinka chapwa. The guy is just too ambitious which becomes a disadvantage sometimes. Look at the COSAFA presidency, power, power, yaba. Very soon mukomfwa ati Kalu for FIFA presidency. To hell with Kalu worshipers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. Gentlemen, there are so many issues regarding the development of Zambian football that can be discussed on this blog instead of Kalu’s private matters.

What Kalu does with his private life and career is non of our business and is beyond our control.

Kalu is free like any individual to marry as much as he wants and we can not form a moral court to judge his behaviour on this site. Lets talk soccer and not individuals. Discussing individuals reduces the level of our debate.

We should learn to understand that despite his soccer exploits and achievements that brought glory to zed, kalu still remains human and has a private life and what he does with it is his business

Ok, if he has applied for the zim job so what Bamfuchile is coaching Namibia, Manfred Chabinga is coaching a team in Swaziland, Charles Musonda and Lucky Msiska are youth coaches in Belgium. Why are we not complaining about them.

Leave the chap alone and get lives for yourselves gentlemen. This is embarrassing

  14. #12 Ba Joze
Nkana against Zesco…… well…. we just did’nt play our game. Look out for the Mosi Cup and Backlays Cup. Hope to meet ZESCO in one or all of the two. We must avenge the defeat. Nkana may fall 7 times, but 7 times it will rise again! Long Live Nkana.

    #14. Anonymous
I now understand why you are still Anonymous!! You will remain Anonymous until you change your world view, your kanongobility. Let me lecture you:

Desire is unexpressed posibility. You can “wish” to do anything BUT you can never even begin to desire something you have no (pottential) capacity to do!! Therefore, there is no such thing as being too ambitious. Check in the dictionary, you will not find it. You will just find Ambition.

Wake up and begin to dream. You deserve a name. Anonymous is not doing you any good.

  15. Guys i want to agree with Kemps-Mwape Mwelwa #14.Kalu’s personal life has nothing to do with us.Please lets leave his personal life alone,we can talk about other more relevant issues concerning our soccer or even politics if we have nothing to discuss.Lets talk about Kalus soccer involvement not abana and all that stuff thats his private life. He’s not standing for Presidency!

  16. Ba Joze, have you heard? Kalu is not standing for presidency in PF, just in case you think he is going to dethrone your political idol, cycle mata!!!

  17. Zambia’s opponents for the 2008 Cup of nations will be revealed on the 19th of October. I am confident Zambia will reach the second round at least. According to my analysis Zambia should be a third seed. If that is the case we should get either Namibia, Sudan,Angola or Benin/Uganda. That is good for us because we can surely claim three points from all those teams. The challenge will be to avoid defeat against top two teams. If we can avoid Nigeria that would be good. Zambia has always had problems with Nigeria. Egypt. Tunisia or even Ivory Coast can all be beaten. Ghana is another team to avoid. According to the seeding system, the worst group we could get is Nigeria,Cotedivoire,Zambia and Angola. That would be a disaster but not impossible.

  18. Ba Anonymous naba Joze and people like you…Zambia seems to possess more of you extremely jealous type than other countries. If someone like Kalu is ambitious you call him power hungry. Whether you like it or not Kalu is Zambia’s most succesful football player as at now. You should wish him well instead of unneccessarily lambasting him at every opportunity. How many Zambian footballers return from professional duty abroad and go on to prosper? Very very few because you are all looking for an opportunity to destroy them so that there are more of you in the Sufferers’ Ship. Jomo Sono and Kaizer Motaung went to the US with Freddie Mwila and Emment Kapengwe. Sono and Motaung came back to become two of South Africa’s biggest businessmen with great wealth derived from the money they made in the US. Mwila? he is suffering somewhere in Zambia and Zambians are very happy about this situation. Bupubafye!

  19. Without Kalu, Zambian’s name as southern power house would have not been rekindled after 1993 Gabon calamity.Abena Zambia “Mutasha fili pakanwa.” You only thouht of Kalu as a hero when Zambia won. Look the Man built the team most ofit we still have now. He is FIFA rep, CAF,FAZ,2010 Ambassador,Kalusha Bwalya Youth foundations, and has been doing local and international work. He is carrying the ZED flag. If he coaches Zim well and good. The man has been indeed a proud Zambian and great crowd puller. Zimbia Vs Liberia at indpendence who scored a life saver? Look and open your eyes and give the man his life chances and dreams.

  20. Here is short profile of Great Kalu.
Born on 16 August 1963 in Mufulira, Kalusha Bwalya was named African Footballer of the Year in 1988 by France Football Magazine and was voted 14th in the 1996 FIFA World Player of the Year Awards.

Kalusha Bwalya is the long standing leader and leading goal scorer for the Zambian National Team. From 2005 he was appointed as head coach for the Zambian Team.

Bwalya played in six African Cup of Nations and is the Zambian coach for the 2006 kick off. He currently serves as a standing committee member at FIFA and the Confederation of African Football and as the vice president for the Football Association of Zambia.

Bwalya has played for many clubs and has achieved the African Footballer of the year, rebuilt a Zambian Football team after the Gabon Crash, captained the Zambian Football team, and coached the Zambian Football Team.

This information was provided by the South African 2010 Local Organising Committee.

  21. # 9 Benard makufi is a family man in sweden and Gift kampamba is in south africa playing for one first division team.

  22. I agree we have no right to question Kalusha’s activities. He is a free man. However, one has to wonder does Kalusha take his jobs seriously or is he after money. Kalusha seems to have the habbit of applying for every availible job even when he is already employed. That is somewhat embarrassing. Last time he tried to be president of Cosafa but he was already in Faz. He seems to want to be everywhere. I cannot question his application for the Zim job but he must remeber he cannot serve to masters at the same time.

  23. Kalusha likes maximising profits. All you people saying he was a great footballer remember he was playing for himself. I have never seen a national team coach going to supersport to do commentary instead of doing his job.#27 you right Kalusha serves more than one master so that he can make money. He’s not serious about his job.

  24. Now, Nyatanga U-turns over Kalusha’s job

    By CHAPADONGO LUNGU
ZIMBABWE Football Association (ZIFA) board chairman, Wellington Nyatanga, has described as “nonsense and fabrication” a story that appeared in a foreign publication purporting that Zambia’s soccer icon Kalusha Bwalya applied to coach Zimbabwe.

Kick Off online publication reported on Thursday that Nyatanga confirmed that Kalusha had submitted his curriculum vitae for consideration for the vacant Zimbabwe coaching job.

But Nyatanga dismissed the report in a telephone interview from Harare, saying he never discussed the issue with anyone and was surprised that he was widely quoted.

Nyatanga, who sounded upset, admitted meeting Kalusha in South Africa at the weekend but said he did not discuss anything with the soccer star.

“Yes I went up to greet Kalusha in South Africa and we didn’t talk anything. Maybe people saw me talking to him and thought he was talking about the job of the coach.

“That is nonsense. There’s nothing of that nature and I’ll pursue and know whoever did the story. I will take it up from there,” Nyatanga said.

Kick Off quoted the ZIFA board chairman stating that Kalusha had submitted his curriculum vitae for consideration for the vacant coaching job left by Charles Mhlauri in July.

“It’s a hotly-contested job. Kalusha Bwalya has already submitted his CV. We should be making a decision when we hold our board meeting probably next week,” Nyatanga was quoted by Kick Off.

But Kalusha denied the report, saying he was concentrating on administration having given up his coaching career last year.

Kalusha said he has not applied for the job in Zimbabwe and had no immediate plans to restart active coaching.

He said he has had five job offers since quitting as Zambia coach but has turned them down because his focus was on administration.

  25. You are really Anonymous my friend, as long as one works for others, s/he needs to take care of his/her needs. Real soccer players love the game and they play for themselves as much as they play for their teams, thats what Kalu did and he continues to do.

All the best to Kalu, hope Zambia can have more guys like him than those who just talk and talk and die talking.

  26. Just why do we have to discuss Kalu, we should discuss Zambian soccer as of today not umuntu umo, chaba shani. I would like to hear about the progress of Zambian players. Anyway Katongo is in the 18 man BIF squad that palys Viborg today at 17:00 hours, whether he will start is another issue. Reports from BIF’s website say that Duncan, Katongo and Mark Williams (19 years Australian boy) were good in training and scored many goals. I will keep an update of this game as it is being sent live on TV2 Sport, cheers lads and may the lord God bless all of you, Zambia Grande, Italia bambino

  27. Brondby win 2-1 away for the first times since April 2006. Katongo played very well and was instrumental i BIF’s win as he delivered the pass for Martin Retov to score the winner. Chris is a great player

  28. #36 Ba mudala ba Justice, do you still remember what said when you were complaining about Chris being sidelined.

I said come what may Chris will definitely shine in Denmark and now you are witnessing my prediction

  29. #37 Kemps it hurts me to see Chris start on the bench, Katongo made that mistake of going to play in a charity game before the start of the second half of BIF’s season. However I now feel he is a great player but like many Zed players in Europe, he has to learn to be selfish at times

  30. #37 It hurts me to see Chris start on the bench, Katongo made that mistake of going to play in a charity game before the start of the second half of BIF’s season. However I now feel he is a great player but like many Zed players in Europe, he has to learn to be selfish at times

  31. # 36 Ba Justice, thanks or the update. I feel it is stretegic that Katongo starts on the bench. It happens that a coach would want to study the opposition and push in a player he feels can do the damage like Katongo. I feel Katongo needs better club though than the finished Brondby.

Thnks once more for the update.

What is wrong with a coach appearing on Supersport? Klinsman appeared on US TV when he was coaching Germany. French rugby coach Benard laporte writes a column in a newspaper, So does South African soccer Coach Pitso. If individuals have the talents to do other jobs they should be allowed. That is free-market for you. What is wrong with maximising profits? Wake up Capitalist Nigger, so says an American author. Imwe ngamwalifilwa ukuchita maximise profits you should not stop others from doing so. This is not the Soviet Union.

  34. This talk of Kalu or whatever should end. Talk about other issues. I know many of you delight in arguments. You always want to have the last words. Muchinje.

  35. Stop dictating topics or when to stop saying what on these blogs. Some of the people who take part here dont seem to understand that the internet was born to advance freedom of speech. What is wrong with argument? As long as we are not insulting anyone we can talk about Kalu or anything. Those who grew up under dictatorships have these tendencies of stopping others so that they can dictate the agenda for conversations.

  36. Whether Kalu marries four wives or not it’s up to him.But i would rather discuss other relevant issues than the personal life of a person. The question we need to ask is Kalu failing in his duties cos of what is happening in his personal life? So far the man is doing well at FIFA,CAF and of course hes still performing at FAZ. Lets look at the U-23 or maybe we can discuss the coming Afcon 2008 draw in Accra.
