Mwanawasa has been open to dialogue and consultation says Mpombo

Share

georgemp.jpgActing Chief Government Spokesperson, George Mpombo has described as unfortunate misrepresentation accusations by Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) president Bishop Paul Mususu that President Levy Mwanawasa and his Government were dictatorial.

Mr. Mpombo said contrary to Bishop Mususu’s accusations,President Mwanawasa and his administration have been open to dialogue and consultation when dealing with national issues.

In a statement issued to ZANIS today, Mr Mpombo said even the National Constitutinal Conference (NCC) Act demonstrated that President Mwanawasa and his government had been open to dialogue and were extremely compromising.

Mr. Mpombo, who is also Minister of Defence, said it was ungodly for Bishop Mususu who represents the body of Christ to go on an open forum to pretend that there were no positive developments towards good governance when a lot had been done.

Bishop Mususu was speaking on the Let the People Talk programme on Radio Phoenix yesterday where he is alleged to have said that President Levy Mwanawasa and his Administration were not a listening Government and had dictatorial tendencies.

Mr Mpombo also said it was unfortunate that the man of God failed to appreciate what his collegues listed as positive developments in good governance in the fields of politics, economics and social services.

He further said the Bishop was more interested in demonstrating his hatred for President Mwanawasa and his administration and using the forum to praise the opposition, especially Patriotic Front.

“Bishop Mususu fails to see the dictatorial tendencies in Mr. Michael Sata, PF President who would run the country as if it were his personal farm but attacks Mr. Mwanawasa who tolerates vicious and in some cases unreasonable criticism and who has taken on board suggestions from the opposition and civil societies in the running of state affairs.” Said the Defence minister.

Mr. Mpombo reminded Zambians that it is only under President Mwanawasa’s administration that the people are consulted in national matters like the fifth national development plan, the annual budgets and adoption of the new constitution.

  1. Mususu is unsophisticated failure whose interest is increasing personal capacity for donor funds to survive. He has failed to grow and run his own Church with accountability. His children and three marriages are all a mess yet he wants to look a moralist. Character and morals start from home before one qualifies for the public fora.

  2. Mr Mpombo, 10million zambian cant be wrong and only you MMD carders right. I would like to warn you Mr Mpombo that time will coutch up with you. You pipo are just trying to protect yo job, remember we are the same zambians who will be voting in 2011, reme Mr Mpombo, 10million zambian cant be wrong and only you MMD carders right. Look at the picture as Mpombo says INDEE BWANA before you rush to such cheap impersonations.Do you even want to deny things that you can see with your own eyes.
Congrats LT for exposing such BOOTLICKERS.

  4. Fellow bloggers,I usually put up frivolous arguments in favour of HE DR Levy P Mwanawasa Sc but on this one I find my learned self stuck between a rock and a hard place.I honestly believe that this is were you differentiate between sanity and sanctity before I end up inconsenquinity or worse still having a cantankerous attitude.
Let us focus on pragmatic issues in the hope of eleviating our poverty which would in turn put a cap on such excessive presidential powers.I really pity comrade Mpombo.

  5. Chapi,

Hon.MPombo is a proven progressive leader, a compatriot in culture and Governance moving Zambia forward. A seasoned patriot who has continued serving this country with intellect and distinction from his days as District Governor and Boat (Z) General Manager. I agree with you in # 1 on Mususu. That disillusioned Clergy of fortune is a mischievous armchair critic. He lacks morals, vision and sense of self restraint from sponsors of Aberration and anarchy dreams.

  6. Do you know that Mususu is a Vimbundu from Angola? His allegiance is to foreign powers than to our flag. If anything is no different from Rwandan clergy that propagated for hatred and carnage. He has no interest in our collective national unity, security or interest whatsoever.

  7. Mpombo fellow bloggers do not use the word hate carelessly. It shows that you are filled with hate yourselves. It is a negative/powerful/emotive word. When the church advocated for a change in the constitution in 1990 ,or when the church campaigned againist FTJ’s 3rd term did they hate KK or FTJ? The church through fearless leaders like late Archbishop of Kasama Mutale/Mazombwe/ Japhet Banda/Telesphore Mpundu have helped shape the history of Zambia for the better. They are the salt of the earth.

  8. continued: They are not blinded by the lust for NCC allowances. Mulongoti said people making noise over NCC were like those who complain about the “cuts” after a hunting trip. What “cuts “is is he talking about? NCC allowances! Poverty is endemic and has impaired judgements of otherwise good people who now are going to the NCC to make ends meet not to make a good constitution. No one hates Dr Chuchu after all he is there only for another 4 years unless he is planning wamuyayaya or a 3rd term.

  9. continued: What really saddens me is that should Dr Chuchu and his henchmen have their way on the constitution like FTJ did in 1996;I can see yet another constitution review process after Dr Chuchu Tenure. NOW THAT IS REAL WASTAGE OF NATIONAL RESOURCES.THERE IS A CHANCE THAT SUCH STUPIDITY CAN BE AVOIDED. HOWEVER,PEOPLE IN POWER MUST GIVE UP SELF SERVING STRATEGIES AND MACHINATIONS PUT ZAMBIA FIRST. NOR SELF NOR TRIBE NOR PARTY NOR REGION NOR CLASS NOR RACE BUT ZAMBIA’S FUTURE GENERATIONS FIRST.

  10. Continued: Special tribute to people like father Umberto who was nearly deported by Gen Chinkuli for campaigning for Multi partyism through chengelo christian magazine whilst Mpombo was still championing one party dictatorship in Kafulafuta ward as UNIP councillor. The Church has been in the liberation struggle longer than Mpombo, Mulongoti and Dr Chuchu and they can be sure to count on the church’s counsel after leaving the comfort of GRZ like FTJ is doing. CLERGY:YOU ARE THE SALT OF THE EARTH.

  11. #12 you are very wise than #6&7.We still remember mpombo in UNIP and the wamuyayaya syndrome, he stood on unip ticket and was defeated in 1991 how can he become wise now, just check the picture he’s a shameless ***** who like worshiping leaders just like he worshiped KK before muwelewele and we call these chaps our leaders shame on Meaningless Mens Den MMD. What else was he saying there apart from pliz chuchu when you come back i need Nichekeleko and i ‘ll defend all these bad policies in our gvt

  12. #7 factless hands off Bishop Paul Mususu, these are men of integrity mwaiche, not those chaps you bought in these mushrooming churches( sido churches)who wants nichekeleko personal gains in this unfamous NCC allowances, ask muwelewele he’s failed to buy such God fearing Men and Women to rubber stamp and legitimatize the fraud NCC

  13. The church has seen it all. From the colonialists,One party dictatorship, 3rd term & now NCC.They have dealt with politicins; “big men” weiding immense power over “small” people, the masses. They understand the arrogance of power which Dr Chuchu like KK & FTJ will only fathom once he leaves Plot 1. The clergy know the people/situation they are dealing with because they have been there before. The church has always stood with & for the poor/voiceless. THEIR CONTRIBUTION TO ZAMBIA IS OUTSTANDING

  14. I fail to fathom this hatred of Dr Chuchu reason. Is it hatred to correct a person who has gone a wrong way? The new constitution is bound to impact more on the next govt & other future govts than on Dr Chchu’s govt. So where does the hatred of Dr Chuchu come in? Ask yourself.Did the people who pressured KK to change to Multi-partism or advised FTJ not to go for 3rd term do this out of hatred of KK/FTJ or they did it for the love of Zambia or even care for the two men.PLEASE DO NOT USE HATE WORD

  15. There is a well written column in todays’s Post by some lost Zambian abroad (Cambridge or somewhere in the UK). Mwanwasa via Mpombo is trying to counter or decline Miyanda’s ivitation to call a meeting before the NCC gets down to business.

  16. why are zedians so full of hate? Leave Mpombo and Levy alone,if they want to kneel before each other. It is their personal choices.satani wont bring any development to any part of zed and he will never be a president of zed even if we had elections today.

  17. #7
Isn’t Bishop Mususu Kaonde or something? You apply double standards mudala. When the man is pro gov’t you call him a Zambian and when he is anti -corruption you call him Vimbundu from Angola?

    Let us stop this nonsense!

Can someone please spill the beans on this ‘FACT’ chap, we need to establish if he is an authentic Zambian!! There is a strong possibility that he could be from one of our surrounding neighbours.

  18. That photo is known it was in the post newspaper before the UNO general assembly. Stop pointing fingers at Mpombo. You should look at the way also your reports report national issues.

  19. Imagine Condi Rice or Dick Cheney doing that to Mpanga. It would be all over commedy central and nightly talk shows. We`ve got a long to go in our democracy.
Mpombo needs mental sanitisation from his “kumulu lesa panshi LPM” madness.
Do you expect independent ideas from such low calibre leaders when dealing with the NCC.

  20. People like Mpombo can only work torwards their own interests, it remains to be seen whether their unpopular NCC will deliver a peoples Constitution. We should be prepared for another Constitution Review Commission after 2011 Elections as the new Gov’t will start preaching about the people driven constitution and then discard peoples recommendations after the costly process.

  21. General Miyanda has once again proven that he is an independent thinker and a self taught academic without any formal college or university education. He should be honoured by LAZ or the University of Zambia. He has proven that legal challeges are not the domain of lawyers but part and parcel of freedom of expression. His comments in his letter to the Republican President and petition over the NCC were highly inspiring for an ordinary man.

Fact is a Zambian but unfortunately has sold his birth right to blindly support LPM for a few pieces of silver. He would never even oppose such unbecoming behaviour by his fellow comrade Mpombo.

Car sales are booming in Zambia as strong economic growth puts more money in the pockets of ordinary Zambians, but the country’s crumbling roads are causing problems

  29. Car sales are booming in Zambia as strong economic growth puts more money in the pockets of ordinary Zambians.

    Bravo Zambia

  30. as strong economic growth puts more money in the pockets of ordinary Zambians.

Bravo Zambia for the endurance, patience in the face of responsible pro-growth policies.

  31. “as strong economic growth puts more money in the pockets of ordinary Zambians” Quote

Since the early 70s we have never had this prevalent economic stead stay in Zambia. Bravo Zambians for the sacrifice and thumbs up to the visionary leadership for your tenacity. Better days are here for us to realize.

  34. If you think we can develop with the paltry 0.6% minreal loyalties the GRZ receives from all the mineral resources that are being plundered out of the country, you are terribly wrong!! More than ever b4 Zambia needs leadership which we havent have had since KK. Unfortunately, we have to make do with chiluba, then mwanawasa due to the poor calibre of the electorate!

  35. Unfortunately, we have to make do with chiluba, then mwanawasa due to the poor calibre of the electorate!

Since my mother, father and indeed myself are voters that have been voting, it should be stated here that cursed is my family from the day we were born with our “poor calibre” we have been using to vote as a family.

  37. We zedians abroad r lost, coz what that junk of a country called zambia has to offer the world is cabbage in the form of dr chuchu! get a proper leader to be proud of and not one who likes to be surrounded by bootlikeckers…

  38. #43….what kind of a zambian are you to talk about your own country like that? you say “get a proper leader to be proud of and not one who likes to be surrounded by bootlikeckers” who should? What are you doing abroad anyway? As a Zambian, you are part and parcel of the country and as such you must be part and parcel of choosing a “proper leader” otherwise dont complain!

  39. Mpombo is such a let down? I would not be surprised if the man still breast feeds from his old mother….chipuba sana? people without intergrity nor guts..bootlickers…fortune seekers.
