Tomorrow Investments clarifies shoddy works

Share

Tomorrow Investments Limited has clarified that delays in the completion of some projects awarded to the company has been because of the delays and non-payment of funds to the company.

Company Director Augustine Katotobwe says government should not shoulder the blame on his company for delays in the completion of projects or the halting of projects but that it should carry-out investigations to establish the root cause of the problems.

Addressing Journalists at the Company Headquarters in Lusaka today, Mr Katotobwe said his firm should not be blamed for poor workmanship as the company had fulfilled the gazetted National Construction Council contractor requirements and that there had been no documented adverse performance reports from clients and supervising consultants.

Mr Katotobwe also said his company should not be blamed for bad performance because of mis-information by the public.

He cited Nyakaseya Bridge across the Zambezi River and the Lufubu Bridge across Lufubu River as some of the projects that his firm has successfully executed and handed-over to government without receiving any complaints.

He also refuted reports that his company was being awarded tenders using dubious means stating further that all contracts awarded to his company were done following the laid down procedures.

Mr Katotobwe said his company values transparency and open business undertakings and that it will continue performing to the expectations of its clients.

And Mr Katotobwe has announced that his company will go ahead and renew the company’s 2008 contractor registration certificate despite government’s directive to the National Council for Construction (NCC) that it should not be allowed to renew the certificate this year.

Mr Katotobwe said that even if the firm has not yet submitted the papers of registration to NCC it will go ahead and submit the papers of registration.

He said his company is not shaken with the statements made by Works and Supply Minister Kapembwa Simbao that the firm’s directors and partners would be held liable for prosecution individually and serve for any payments they received without any corresponding delivery of products and services.

Mr Katotobwe said his company is saddened by the remarks made by Mr. Simbao as he is incompetent to understand the challenges that the construction industry was going through.

He advised the minister not to be issuing statements that are beyond his comprehension in order to protect the construction industry.

Mr Katotobwe has since disclosed that his company will issue a comprehensive report to government after the findings by the Auditor General’s Office.

  1. No records of poor workmanship are there against 2moro Investments and to de-register them is a bit to harsh. All contractors are reportdly delievering sub-standard work, why pick on 2moro Investments as the principle culprit. I dont seem to see the fairness in this audit. Smacks off a divide-and-rule tactic.

  2. The auditor general should publish her report for all to judge, muntuza its wrong for you to say that all contractors do shoddy works,i suspect you are one of the directors of 2morrow investments….thats a careless assumption and if you think your company can reap where it did not sow,i can assure you levys wrath will rest on you……..wiles song has come to pass…unomwaka ba lekulonga

  3. Awarding construction assignments by Govt could be likened to a situation where I for example would engage a builder of my house. The builder will have to be monitored in terms of progress of work and use of building materials I have provided. When the work done is to my satisfaction, they are expected to be paid as agreed upon. I have observed with sadness that issues of supervision are not there in Govt contracted works. Ministry of works and supply should jack up its inspectorate wing(s).

  4. Katotobwe, Simbao is not the one who made you deliver shoddy works. Just wait for a catalogue of your works you have done and our delivery points. We are waiting to crucify you with your Chiluba crew shareholder

  5. The whole tendering and contract awarding needs streamlining.Katotobwe could have a point here, when it comes to payments govt is the first culprit in all services-water bills, telephone bills, salaries, retrenchment packages, insurance premiums etc and yet they have K900bn unspent money in the coffers.NCC as a regulator must be seen to be proactive and act professionally to ensure that Contractors conform conform to the dictates of the trade and on the hand must monitor govt’s involvement in the

  6. whole process. What we are seeing here is LPM’s dicatotorial tendencies where he just says anything(he is a jack of all trades but master in none.)Our govt lacks monitoring in all its activities and this has led to high abuse of office and rampant corruption in all its depts.Anna Chifungulo’s involvement is mere waste of time, financially yes but process of tendering ACC must take the lead.LPM seems to be the prescribing doctor of all govt and party activities which has lead to his failures.

  7. Transparency is key in excuting justice.Let all the findings be made public and let the public see and make informed decisions about who is in the wrong. We must be a ble to see adverse reports to the contrary.Kapembwa Simbao has just burnt his fingers here.He has the power to Veto any contracts he feels uncomfortable with,or use ACC facilities at his disposal.Only the truth shall set Tommorrow Investments free.

  8. #6-7 Kuku the ultimate supervisor in Govermnet is the President when things go wrong he is the one who takes the blame. He has the authority to intervene at what ever level and stage in anything to do with Government. Chiluba used to go round inspecting potholes in roads no one complained that was his Job. He even went to the extend of checking for late comers at ministry no one complained , why should you call Levy a dictator now because he is exercing one of his many functions.

  9. As for Tomorrow Investment the unfinished projects due to delays in recieving payments from Government but it is about the poor quality of work for finished projects where full payment has been made.Every one including people that have never owned vehicles can tell a good road from a bad road. Besides the shoddy work is not only in roads done but in buildings and bridges.

  10. To not register 2morro Inves. is 2 harsh & inhuman. If shoddy works are done both contractor and the supervisor/designer and that includes Min. of works & supply (including minister himself) should shoulder the blame. And govt. should also pay on time what is due 2 contractors

  11. #9 That is what your Presidents have opted to do cos they have nothing else to do at Plot1.Imagine George bush or gordon brown inspecting each and every project undertaken where will they end?The problem lies in the appointing authority(putting people with no clue in what what they are doing but waiting for fat cheques at the end of the month). For a change lets us put much effort to education and appoint people who appraised with the right knowledge and can understand, interpret and articulate.

  12. #10.In Operations Management that is why we have terms such as rescheduling and being on schedule. If govt had capable personnel or rather technocrats who are motivated to do what they are hired for, believe me such issues would not arise cos they will have seen that and gave an informed opinion about the contractor. But Corruption and kick backs, poor pay in govt is what is leading to this.Better govt initiative is the way forward.Motivate civil servants and the results will show immense.

  13. #10 ,Another contractor SAble Transport who was doing Luwingu/Kasama? Its another dodgyy job but nothing is being said about it,should we wait until LPM decides to ride on it for us to know that is shoddy? We must move with time and start doing the right things in the right way.Its either the current crop of managers and politicians in those respective Ministries must be fired or the govt retires and pave way for capable people who have people’s interest at heart.

  14. kuku, I thought you had sense but from your current positing shows you lack national interest. kuku, your friends and cronies have been taking advantage of us Zambians because everyone was becoming corrupt and dodgy. The issue here is, everyone in the supply chain of these shoddy works will be dealt with accordingly..including Sable transport . You are like a thief who is not ashamed to be a thief till you are caught. There is no excuse to imitate others in wrong doing.

  15. LETS DIG MORE CONTRACTORS DOING SHODDY WORKS.PLEASE NCC YOU ARE THE WATCHDOG TO YOUR AFFILLIATES.PLEASE LEST CHECK ALL INFRASTRUCTURES UNDER REPAIR.INSPECTORS FROM MINISTRY RESPOSSIBLE ARE WE DOING JUSTICE TO OUR COUNTRY.I BELIEVE ITS NOT ONLY THIS CONTRACTOR MENTIONED THERE COULD BE MORE OF THIS TYPE.CAN THE LAW WORK NOW NOT LATER.

  16. #15 The trouble with you HK you sleep walk alot.Read my comment in #13,its not like Am supporting Tommorrow Invest, am blaming the management we have in place and more so NCC who is supposed to be the regulator.Look at PIA(Pensions and Insurance Authority),its so robust and dynamic in its activities and the insurance market exhibits alot of sanity than anyother regulated industry in our country. The guys at this place are just fantastic and know what they are doing. They have managed to split life

  17. from General Insuarnce cos of Risk factor of coys running both business.NCC should blamed squarely, the have been issuing a practising cert to Tommorrow investments based on the yearly submissions which include jobs done and a feed back from govt. The ineptitude and incompetence this govt has can not be heaped on Tomorrow investments alone, both parties must share the blame.Waumfwa iwe mwaice HK? Stop sleep walking

  18. I HAVE SEEN NO REASON WHY GORVEMENT HAVE SO MUCH INTEREST IN TOMORROW INVERSTMENTS,INSTEND OF SABLE TRANSPORT AND CONTRUCTIONS,FOR NOT DOING KASAMA ,LUWINGU ROAD WHILE BEEN PAID FOR .

  19. I HAVE SEEN NO REASON WHY GOVERMENT HAVE SO MUCH INTEREST IN TOMMOROW INVESTMENT, INSTEND OF SABLE TRANSPORT AND CONSTRUCTIONS. CAUSE SABLE HAS BEEN PAID FOR KASAMA ,LUWINGU ROAD WITHOUT ANY CONVISING WORK DONE.
