Fifa inspector gives Independence stadium a go ahead

Share

A visiting FIFA inspector has given the go ahead to contructors at Lusaka’s independence stadium to lay the artificial turf.

Marcus Keller said he is happy with the work done on the 43 year old stadium.

Keller however advised that the turf should not be put when the surface is in wet condition.

He told ZNBC Sports after inspecting independence stadium that the date to start laying the turf will be known when he meets FAZ officials.

Edelgrass from Holland has been contracted to spread the artificial grass.

Keller is a Swiss born specialist based in Lyon, France and has helped many other African countries including Ghana to lay artificial turf.

He leaves for Swaziland for another inspection and is expected back in Zambia in a month.

  1. Please redo the entire stadium and not just patching up the seats. Have you not seen how other stadia look like in other countries you have gone to compete? Zed govt and its policy makers suck.

  2. ya finaaly development at independence is on the way. we are tired of vi ma wuzu, ah, monga ni mu sanga

  3. mob justice, u sure think like a mob. if we continue having pipo lik u, development aint gonna take place

  4. Hon.Legal Expert #4. You were supposed to understand the reason behind what “Mob Justice” was thinking a typical Lusaka mob… The guy misunderstood or didn’t read the all article.
You jump to conclusions and give “fancy” advise like most Zambian LAWYERS. Be wise, we don’t need shallow lawyers in Zambia, we got a mob of them!!

  5. An artificial is a good idea coz they we be no more cutting brown grass at all. In fact this we make it very easy in keeping the soccer field nice and neat, in regard of without worring when you have rain. However, I wish Zambia the best in the outcome of the artificial when everything is finished. It we nice to something like that going to happen expecially fifa insisted to upgrade the stadium. I do agree that artificial needs an exprience installes who knowledgable.

  6. Advantages
Artificial turf can be a better solution when the environment is particularly hostile to natural grass. An arid environment or one where there is little natural light are examples.
Ideal for holiday homes when maintenance of lawns is not practical. It is also a solution for elderly homeowners who find the upkeep of lawns too much hard work.
Suitable for roof gardens and swimming pool surrounds.
Artificial turf pitches can last up to ten years.
Some artificial turf systems allow for the integration of fiber-optic fibers into the turf. This would allow for lighting or advertisements to be directly embedded in a playing surface, or runway lighting to be embedded in artificia

  7. Disadvantages
The abrasions caused by artificial turf have been linked to a higher incidence of MRSA infections [6].
Some artificial turf requires infill such as silicon sand and/or granulated rubber made from recycled car tires. This material may carry heavy metals which can leach into the water table.[7]
Periodic disinfection is required as pathogens are not broken down by natural processes in the same manner as natural turf. This notwithstanding, recent studies suggest certain microbial life is less active.[8]
Turf toe is a medical condition which is often associated with playing on artificial turf pitches.
Friction between skin and artificial turf causes abrasions and/or burns t

  8. I love Lusaka Times. It has shown me we are not short of expertise in Zambia. It is just that we are all spread all over this globe. God bless Zambia.

Is it just me or do other Zambians think we can do better than we are doing? Even better than South Africa? Yes I said it!

  9. expecting the fanatics/radicals/extremist chipolopolo in support of this….. By thye way, two zambian top teams are out there representing you brothers, why the frigid? no words at how at all sure? not even wishing them good luck? sad sad

  10. dunno but i think this thing is not appropriate for a country like zambia? millions of zambians in lusaka city will have an opportunity to own carpets/ rugs

  11. It also doesn’t need watering #9. People walk miles for their daily water in Africa, so is it right pump gallons and galons on a football pitch. I’m not terribly keen on an artificial pitch, it is artificial after all, I’m just glad to see something is being done to bring back our stadium.

  12. So much mess in the football management over years if the stadia in zambia were periodically maintaned as is required, may be we would not have had to call the MUZUNGU’s and their expertise. The problem in Africa is wen something is developed there is no maintanance or servicing on it. They wait for it to completly break down. Africans always learn the hard way. why???

  13. We have to be serious Guyz!!i have watched matches in That stadium many times and the last time i was there was before it was closed for renovation! that “THING” is not worth a stadium, we can do better than just putting an artifitial turf in that so called stadium, why cant our Govt build a new stadium??????????????? which is going to benefit all football lovers in Zed instead of building houses for our Presidents!!!!

  14. Its very sad, we have eyes but we cant see. Maybe our so called leaders have never watched football in beautiful stadiums out Zed….
