Chinese mine operates with no safety measures

Share

Safety Inspectors from the Ministry of mines have found that the Chinese Collum Coal Mine (CCM) which has experienced three accidents within a week is operating without an ambulance, first Aid kit, and stretchers to attend to injured workers.

Senior Inspector of mines Lubinda Kamutumwa has told the Chinese Management to provide an ambulance, the first Aid kit, and stretchers before they resumed operation following the death of one miner under the ground.

Mr. Kamutumwa said when he visited the CCM to ascertain the death of Trywell Siapaka also failed to visit the accident scene owing to the absence of witnesses who were around when it occurred.

The Inspectors, together with, the area councilor Patson Mangunje, and the President for Germstone and Allied Workers Union Sifuniso Nyumbe found all the workers have deserted the mine to go and bury their dead colleague.

Mr. Kamutumwa has given management 10 days to buy a new ambulance for use in case of an accident.
He said safety was first thing to consider before embarking on mining any activity to prevent accidents that could in the long run affect production.

CCM Shaft two Director Xu Zian Qun said he would ensure that the ambulance was provided and in the meantime the mine has turned one of their vehicles into an ambulance.

Mr. Qun said the workers became unruly when their colleague died, they threw stones, broke the windows of vehicle, and threatened violence.

He said Sinazeze Police officers who came to pick up the body failed to control the situation and they were meant to hide the Chinese buildings.

Mr. Qun also complained that he was having problems with the local people who were cultivating within the mining area where they were cracks being formed as a result of underground mining.

He said the villagers were chasing his workers who wanted back fill the cracks to prevent water from the surface sip into the tunnels under ground.

The Senior Inspector said that it was illegal for villagers to have fields within the mining area and he has urged management to ensure that the cracks were filled to prevent further accidents underground.

  1. Our Mine Inspectors MUST BE FIRED together with Levy and his governemt. We are fedup with constant funerals due to devilish infestors and their agents of slavery in state house

  2. What Kamutumwa was supposed to determine was why the accident occured, what has been put in place to prevent the same from reoccuring! Or could this just be poor reporting by LT?

  5. Chinese Coal Mines are known to be the most dangerous in the world. On average over 30 people maybe more die in Chinese coal mines on a monthly basis. They are simply bringing the same mentality to Zambia and the sad thing is that we are letting them. Is this cost in human life really worth the so called Foreign Investment?

  6. If the global mine accidents are anything to go by, the Chinese coal mine rank among the highest (search google on internet). This Chinese situation is being replicated in Zambia in the name of investors, SAD. Jesus was sold for three silvers, I am wondering how much these Chinese have paid Zambian Government to continue predisposing Zambian lives to danger in this manner.

  7. These chinese guys need their mining license revoked until they pass safety measures … and where are the unions to make the meaningful noise. To put pressure on the Govt to revoke these guys’ licenses. They have very pathetic safety and general treatment of out pipo. And yes the Mine Inpectors should be fired, this mine should be closed like yesterday.

  8. surely, is an ambulance, first aid kit and a strecher a measure to show that a company has safety standards? even that inpsector lubinda is not a serious one.how on earth can you allow yourself to mention such things.those item mentioned must be part of mines equipment and it has nothing to do with safety measures.he should look at how the miners opeerate when they are underground, cause thats were the accidents occur.so please, recast your thinking bwana government inspector.

  9. Chinese this chinese that chinese where chinese when chinese why. Endless chinese LYANSHI!! Is chuchu and his minions not hearing the cries of zed pipo about this tushitwupiti! or has he sold the pipo for 30 silvers like Judas(or is 30 billion)

  10. Action is all we need not talking! people are dying, this should have been avoided the first time these chinese came into the country!
How many of other investors whose safty haven’t been checked? but instead we are waiting for more people to die thats when we shall act, shame on You!
Let someone visit” Spirit of the River” a canadian minning company in Western province! enviromentalist aren’t doing their jobs!its pathetic. This company is causing polution.they throw the toxic, acidic waste materials in the Zambezi river as a result water is conteminated not feet for human use and fish, hence fish are found with diseases(soars, deformed etc.) animals and human being also drink and use the same!

  12. # 1 comment has just made my day!
But seriously somebody gatta get fired,y r the cho cho Li’s given VIP treatment pa Zed?

  13. I agree with all your sentiments.I think the law is weak or the people who are supposed to inforce it are not working like Lubinda. Surely, how can we allow this thing to continue. I suggest this mine should be closed today and only open when conditions are met.

  14. The Chinese should not be playing in the dangerous mine shafts.
They should be busy monitoring their children and keeping them busy making poisonous lead painted toys for American children.
