Chiluba Ordered to appear before Task Force

Share

Former president Frederick Chiluba has has been ordered to appear before the Task Force Investigations officers at 10:00 hours on Thursday, his aide said.

Chiluba received the summons at his residence in Lusaka today, a day after he returned from South Africa where he underwent treatment for a cardiac complication, Emmanuel Mwamba said.

“The call-out (summons) did not disclose the reasons. He is wanted on Thursday,” Mwamba said.

Chiluba, who is already facing several graft charges before a magistrate court, is accused of having stolen huge sums of public funds together with his close aides and officials during his 10-year rule.

The ex-leader has denied the charges, saying his arrest was politically motivated by President Levy Mwanawasa.

A Zambian magistrate court ruled last month that Chiluba, 65, should face a corruption trial in May.

Chiluba and two businessmen co-defendants are facing charges of theft of about 500,000 US dollars in state funds.

  1. The FTJ and Co cases are becoming.. .!!! People are tired of hearing or reading the same nonsense day in and day out!! Task Force and Levy just waste Govern.money.FTJ won’t be jailed. You send to jail poor Zambians while leaving FTJ&CO who mis-used billions of kwacha enjoying peace,God gonna punish you!! It’s not fair.FTJ,Katele Kalumba, plus many others are still getting millions of kwacha from Govern. So Task Force and Levy just stop making noise and let these thieves continue enjoying life!!Nothing will happen to them 100% because they have money. In poor countries like Zambia, only poor citizens go to jail!!!!

  2. Justice shall prevail! If not in this world then definately in the one to come. Can’t bribe The Almighty.

  3. By law! Mr Chiluba is not under any legal obligation to appear before the Task force on Thursday following a mere call-out! but has only moral obligation to do so,so as to serve himself from been harrassed by the same force! He can only be legaly obligated to appear before the competant court of law upon been summoned or supoened!
Task force is not the court instead they should request or invit him over. This goes to Police officers too with a tendence of treating call-out as court orders!
Coming to the main case! all we need are answers from our old man! Let him just pay half or all,to save his legacy.

  4. You are right#2 it’s just today when we read about a cop to hang for theft but for chiluba’s issue we are fade up pliz, we have alot of important and productive stories which can be put on the newspaper headline down in the communities than this Ngambanga.

  5. The process has been @ snail speed.

I STILL THINK THAT IT IS BETTER TO DO SOMETHING RATHER THAN NOTHING AT ALL.

  6. I concur with you #6, we can’t let case die a natural death! atleast its in court! when delivering judgment time will be taken into acount by the presiding judge or Magistrate!
Lets wait and see where it will take us! The media need to inform us on whats going on,so that is otherwise we raise and question them!

  7. Can someone please explain to me what the “TASK FORCE” and “DEC” do. Are these like the “FBI” and “CIA” of Zambia. Please explain.

  8. # 8. Crazy_Zambian
The rape of mother zambias resources by FJT and co was so wide spread (With sata keeping watch) that a Task force was formed to recover plundered funds and recomend proscution of plunderers.

The DEC, drug enforcment agancy was formed to combate illigal drugs, thuogh now they seem to be only harrassing villegers and mishanga sellers selling a splif.

FJT has perfected and revolutionised the act of ”volutary faintging” when face to face with a judge. He will milke this until he is pardoned on grounds of ill health.

  9. Dr.Freddrick Titus Jacob Mpundu Kafupi Chiluba is a full time Zambian THIEF, very senior CROOK whose case must be looked at objectively due to its complexity. Kafupi’s case is a web of grand nepotism, corruption, mismanagement of public funds, grand theft. This is a man who is a HABITUAL THIEF READY TO STEAL ANYTHING FROM A COIN TO SOMEONE’S WIFE WITHOUT REMORSE FOR HIS BAD ACTIONS. THE MAN CAN STAND NAKED TO DEFEND HIS THEFT GIVEN A CHANCE. HE IS A NATOLAFYE. HE CAN BOAST OF HAVING OPENED UP PEOPLE’S MINDS TO KNOW HOW TO STEAL IN THE NAME OF EMPOWERMENT.RESPECTED LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, LET THE JUDGES DO THEIR JOB, SLOW OR FAST, JUSTICE MUST COME. IT TAKES A THIEF TO DEFEND A THIEF. CONTD.

  10. EVEN LEVY WILL BE VISITED BY THE SAME LAW IF HE IS FOUND HIDING BEHIND THE CORRUPTION CRUSADE. WE THANK LEVY FOR SETTING A PRECEDENCE THAT WILL CATCH HIM IF HE IS STEALING. DONT WORRY ABOUT LEVY NOW, WORRY ABOUT CHILUBA BECAUSE OF WHAT HE DID, LEVY’S TIME WILL COME TO SO SPARE HIM THE BAD NAMES NOW, ITS NOT HIS TURN NOW. IF HE IS AS CLEAN AS A CONSTANTLY BLOWN WHISTLE, GOOD FOR HIM AS WELL AS POSTERITY. FELLOW RESPONSIBLE ZAMBIANS, LETS KICK THE BALL ONE PLAYER AT A TIME. LEVY BIG MAN, SO FAR SO GOOD. JUST MIND THE CHINESE AND FIND OUT WHAT THEY HAVE DONE IN THEIR OIL FIELDS IN DAFUR, SUDAN. ARE THEY RE-INVESTING IN DAFUR OR THEY ARE FUELLING CONFUSION TO THEIR ADVANTAGE? WAKE UP LEVY!!!

  11. Wheels of justice are slow but they do turn. Chimo nokwenda pa chikochi! but bakafika! The hour will come and we will see justice. It will be pay back time.

  12. The smokescreen is not only clouding our vision but getting us confused. You’ll tell me if FTJ will every get into prison. Let’s just face facts – the cases are too slow to ever come to a conclusion.

Abena Levy niba kateka. Make noise about FTJ while he stuffs his cake-hole with our hard earned money.

  13. Why is it taking so long to send this guy Chiluba to prison? Isn’t he the same person who put away Ronald Penza for fear that the latter was gaining popularity enough to becaome the republican President? The short guy and the his fellow henchmen thieves like Katele, Diangamo, just to mention a few , do not deserve any sympathy even inspite of their health condition. I would give a dimme if they were to be sent to blazes. In my view, those shielding crooked thieves deserve punishment. The only major problem is the seemingly weak prosecution that has let many of the crooked embezzlers go scot-free. Meanwhile, we shall continue crying for our beloved country.

  14. #13, I know what you are alluding to. I feel sorry for you amd myself and the rest of the Zambians who watch from over the fench, helplessly, these guys speak from both sides of their mouth while they stuff their pockets with public funds. It’s such a shame that the majority of the politicians in Zambia are so hell-bent on plundering the country’s wealth. Unlike there counterparts in the west, they steal and stash the dollars in Swiss Banks. In the West the money is re-invested to create jobs and develop economies. No wonder the majority of countries in Africa, like Zambia, remain largely backward even after more than 40 years of self rule.

  16. Leave the man be, i think he’s been harrassed and embarrassed enough. Surely he’s learnt his lesson? I dont undertsand the fuss really, he’ll never be president again anyway. Leave him be.

  17. # 15, I feel your compassion and I think there’s so much time we’ve lost over the years because of our selfish leaders. The Zambian politician is a disappointment, an insult to the hard work of decent Zambians. We can’t always rely on government to directly put meals on our tables but when we do look up to them, we expect frameworks and values that make life better for all. It’s all sickening, to be honest.

  18. I belive everyone wants justice, but at what expense? The Zambia people are again sleeping just like it was in 1992…when Chiluba called KK a theif, thats the time he even revealed the turnels, everyone was asleep.
The expense of all this is that we fail to make checks and balances when we should and do that afterwards which doesnt help much at all.Right now there are alot of things happening, every year there is a fuel shortage if not then Ndeni is on fire, mining deal deals which just look good on paper but little benefit to our people, contracts, maize deal and will hear sbout them 5years later, thats the problem.

  19. We are just too tired of FTJ issues. If u cant find him with a case, leave him alone. How much more money do you wanna ripe zambia off in addition to what FTJ and team have squandered?
If you don’t have any ways to punish him stop.People are judged in days but him.Or no,he is above the law.
Just let him go.Start investigating other isues

  20. Its like corruption only took place during Chiluba’s time. Up to now the auditor General’s reports havent been acted on yet we are still talking about Chiluba in the process making people like the Nchito brothers very rich. They should thank God for Chiluba. Mwanawasa’s time will come, Chiluba has suffered enough.

  21. In Zambia only the poor are sent to jail and the rich are always safe.

Fujika is in prison and Chiluba will not jo to jail.

This is part of the matrix.

In the end FTJ will be pardoned.

  22. I think FTJ is now being victimised because he wants Baobab Land. Zambian Politics are so cheap it is disgusting. It is almost 10 years and Chiluba has not been convicted of anything , what does the government think? That we are stupid or something? If Conviction cant be made this year This case should be thrown out. Our system is a let down, let Chiluba be.

  23. What do guys think of the Abacha/Nigeria case. Obasanjo had them (Abacha’s family diclose, where and how much money they had stashed away in Swiss accounts. So there was no jail or trial and Obasanjo gave them a percentage of the money abroad. The reason being that the case would drag before the courts and lawyers would make a killing out of the case. The amount of money the government is spending on Chiluba and Co must have exceeded what it is hoping to recover from Kafupi and Co.
    What do you guys think?

  24. i think the case has dragged on too much,i hear the Zed goverment has spent over 1 million dllrs on the chiluba case alone, which has not been concluded to date, heavens knows how much will spent before judgement is passed.

  25. …it is better to die on your feet than to live on your knees… No man has lived forever nor taken his possessions to the grave. know that truth will always come to the surface, just as the sun will always rise tomorrow.

  26. The whole case is a sham and scam. I fail to understand why on earth this case has dragged on and on. In his first parliament address LPM cited about 169 cases against FTJ out of which none is before the competent court of law. All the accomplices of FTJ that where mentioned initially are enjoying the best of all the freedoms e.g Katumbi, Katele, etc. Now its FTJ all alone. All the cases before the courts are not even straight foward. Looking at all the major cases that were initiated by the Task Force none have resulted into convincing convictions. Expenses so far have exceeded the so called plundered resources. In other words LPM over blew the courruption trumpet

  27. Just one case !!! why did Chibula tell us of the tunnels????what are they worth now???? silly kafupi son of a congolise

  28. Shidada and Calo, remember that it is a mistake to think that moving fast is the same as actually going somewhere. if you expect too much from the case(s) of chiluba, you will come out disappointed. I personally believe that what our system needs is our support and confidence, justice will prevail-if you are going a long way, go slowly. Ten years in power for chiluba- theres a lot his got to account for-we might just wait ten years for this to end too, that is fair right? after ten the people can then say to him-we gave you time, and we’ve now drwn the line for time waits for no one.

  29. In other words i still feel that LPM woodwinked us to believe that he is an angel so that he could win the hearts of the Zambian populace that looked down on him initially when he was hand picked by FTJ. LPM wanted to create an unique identity that was to be disassociated from his predecessor. He wanted to become his own man with a clean face different from FTJ thus the “NEW DEAL” slogan. But then if you critically assess LPM’s government its no better than FTJs. Corruption is at its worst. Justice is selective e.g Kashiwa, Samuel Musonda, Mabenga, Katele, VJ etc. Can we trust such individuals honestly?

  30. The earlier you prosecute FTJ and other plunderers, the better for our nation.why are his cases dragging?

  31. WHEN POLITICS AND LOW COLLIDES WHICH ONE IS COUGHT IN A WEB.
I have just realised that politicians are very hard people to handle coz they can appear to be fighting each other but in the real world they share the same piece of cake.Politicians in power controls the law thats why it’s diffucult to talk about corrupt cases being committed by the presidents in power but the low just takes advantage when they are out of office,if pipo are seeing these present corrupt practices why can’t the law visit them? can somebody explain this to me??( the phrase you can control the tree from bending when it’s still small than when it’s big because it will break).

  32. The london court didn’t hesitate to tell us the outcomes of the job they were told to do on chiluba’s case, in the first place why did the govt ask them to handle the case if they knew they will not consider the chargement? coz now we are waiting for the second chargement from a zambian court. What we want is the money back to serve poor zambian’s esp those voiceless down in the villages wr life is so difficult. IT SO DIFFICULT TO RETRIEVE THE MONEY WHICH IS ALREADY IN THE POCKET, thats why it’s important to stop corrumption before it has made some roots.

  33. Chiluba please just go for a plea bargain lest your heart fails you. Kawalala wachabechabe, Where is your friend Newstead Zimba?

  34. At best this is just a matter of throwing good money after bad money and keeping the taskforce staff employed; at worst it is just a case of vindictiveness by LPM. Which plunderer has ever been found guilty and actually served their prison sentence apart from sakala? All the other sentenced plunderers are walking free despite being given prison sentences. WHY is my tax-payer money being wasted by the fruitless cause??

  35. the guy now has a new case (maize scandal) even before the old ones are concluded.
it has taken too long, we need the guy behind bars.

  36. I think no matter how long it takes, Chiluba must be convicted for his crime against the country. He must be made an example of and maybe other African countries will follow the same route and convict there leaders on corruption charges. Mr Jacob Zuma of South Africa is also facing corruption charges. We should not rest until Chiluba is convicted, and i hope the next gov’t does not abolish the Task Force and this new system so that if LPM and his govt is corrupt, they could also face the same charges. Chiluba must be made an example of. This should be a lesson to all future presidents who plan to pocket the country’s wealth.

  37. I think Nawakwi should be followed too. There is a lot she knows. Baza Ululana. But I agree Chiluba’s cases are taking too long. May be he should have appreared before a military tribunal. Just a suggestion. Or a truth and jail commission

  38. Your Excerlency LPM, State Counsel, Much as i want plunderers to be jailed i am begining to think the issues with Chiluba are personal. The man is in Court and then you want to dig up issues that heppend more than 10 years ago ? live with what you’ve got. Try him on the cases in Court and forget about the new ones. Don’t you know that a bird in hand is worth two in the forest ? At the rate you are going Chiluba will start getting sympathy. Apply your energy elsewere. We appreciate your efforts so far !

  39. The commander-in-thief wont get any sympathy. Not from the children dying due to lack of medicines in hospitals. Not from the resident doctors he fired. Not from us diasporans!

  40. Can the LT administrator leave us with the Chiluba case to exhaust instead of loading us with crap like: Authorities appalled by filth at St. Francis hospital
Value of properties in Livingstone skyrockets
    SADC’s Salomao extols Levy
    Heritage Commission records increased visitations
Sell reserved maize, FRA orders Mumbwa CU
    Vindictive churches worry Munkombwe
    Kaumba Makes Last Olympic Stand
    Make Zambia clean campaign working
    Mps strangling democracy
    Easter Weekend Scorecard
Government kick starts the revision of labour laws
    New UNZA Hostels reach sl

  41. I do not see how anyone can rejoice in a simple summons that is obviously going nowhere. The state under the instructions of Levy are playing to the gallery and fools are being convinced that justice is being done!

let me break it down for the shallow minded around here. Chiluba put Levy in power and there is no way in heaven or earth that Levy will put Chiluba in jail. The circus continues. Guess who are monkeys. Guess who will be laughing when Levy’s term comes to an end and FTJ is is free.

  42. will suppoort my fellow lawyer Levy. We are clean and have a code of conduct. LAZ would have displined him already.

  43. Civil matters take long to be desposed from the courts of law!while criminal matters are not, they are concluded on time not years. The London court conluded thecivil case on time. What’s wrong with our justice system? Could our chief justice give an explaination to the Zambian pipo!
Why do our magistrates and Judges allow anreasonable adjournments? Have they been compromised? what happened to the phraise of *Justice delayed is justice denied* what a shame! Our judiciary have some roten rats I can smell it,puting a dark cloud on our justice!
The system is so pathetic. So many enocent souls are in prison pending their cases to be cause listed or commited to high courts, they are dying waiting!

  44. Can someone please tell me what happened to FTJ at the london court please. Im Blank on that topic. Someone please explain.

  45. Mutengo Waminga LT is a news service giving is Z news. Its not meant just to be blog. Who is forcing you to read all the stories? By the way, you guys what time do you work? U are always blogging. Mutengo if you really in the states, you tell me you don’t sleep?

  46. Mutengo waminga does not work in the office as such, he is a house boy and he has got excess to his boss’s computer in the house he works 24/7. Whilst he is kupipa matuvi of his old boss, he is also blogging?

  47. Shidada and Anonymous. Thank you for your concerns. I will avoid insults. All I suggested was that LK gives us stories worth debating not small storues aboyt fishermen supporting a a certain anonymous headman

  48. WE ALL ENJOYED MYSELF F.T,J. MY MINISTER’S, LEVY, KATELE AND THE OTHES,WHY YOU ARE ALL ON ME ALONE EVEN YOU ZAMBIAN PEOPLE ENJOYED A LOT OF CHANGES IN ZAMBIA,EVEN YOU,HONESTLY GIVEN SUCH A CHANCE CAN YOU JUST LEAVE WITH NOTHING IN YOUR POCKET EVEN LEVY IS STEALING JUST WAIT FOR HIS TERM TO END.YOU

  49. No. The biggest thieves in Zambia are Bembas. Aba Bemba bakabolala. Since independence the biggest plunders are Bembas even the biggest criminals. True or False? Chiluba was creating a Bemba empire with his DRC cousins.

  50. WHAT I HATE ALWAYS YOU SHIDADA AND ANONYMOUS STOP ATTACKING BA MUTENGO WAMINGA.I TOLD HIM NOT TO ATTACK YOU PEOPLE BUT IF YOU WANT OK YOU WILL HEAR

  51. Some chaps think Justice in Zed is selected why is it one sided towards the north!!!!! does it have something to do with culture!!! i guess if u read history some people have been specialised in raiding what do u expect of their decendants!!!

  52. 61. Thanx for your support. I will not attck anyone since I know you personally. You can check your mail. Have sent you a greeting. suffice to say that Shidada and anonymous deserve to be slaughtered like Shakafuswa. If I found you two struggling witha python, I would help a python. dickheads. I hope I am saying this for the last time. Thank you for reading. Now repeat after me: WE ARE FOOLS. WE ARE FOOLS. WE WONT ATTACK YOU. WE WONT ATTACK YOU.

  53. 51. You lawyers you are now having a good time and you think other educated Zambians are blind. Soon and very soon a new Government will be ushered in and we will use different Law text books to sort you out. Association of former Generals!

  54. I am extremely confused as to exactly when the Task Force came to know about the Carlington Saga for them to act now. Do they think Zambians are not analytical about the games they are playing to keep their jobs. FTJ was taken to court years back but no conclusion of his case is in sight.Typical Zambian Judges why are you cowards, i think Capt Solo and team would do a good job.

  55. #53 chiluba j was found guilty by the London court. you can see their judges at work. not ours, one case ten years. even sentencing is a problem eg a villager found with 5grams of mbanje is jailed 5 years and that guy (chileshe)who grew, i dont how many hectares of the same stuff was just fined. there is a problem

  56. Levy’s time will come. All this protection he gives to his family, Shakafuswa included, will turn against him. Putting all his entire family, village and clan on government pay roll is corruption. How can you put a brother as head of security and he get killed by a prostitute in SA? What kind of intelligence is that? Remember guys, corruption comes in so many ways. Start counting days guys. Sata won’t spare Levy at all.
