Faz Hands Herve Renard 3-year deal

Share

New Zambia coach Herve Renard has been handed a 3-year deal to lead the 1974 and 1994 Africa Cup runners-up until 2011 by the Football Association of Zambia (Faz).

Renard concluded talks with Faz president Kalusha Bwalya and late Friday at Football House at Football House in Lusaka.

The deal will also see 39-year-old Frenchman handed the privilege bringing his own assistant Patrice Beaumelle from France who will be on Faz’s payroll.

Kalusha said at Renard’s unveiling that a local coach will be named as third assistant to the French duo.

However, the full details of the contract were not made available to the press.

Renard’s brief is to qualify Zambia to the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Angola and later the World Cup finals to follow in June of the same year in South Africa.

“We have to have time and patience with the new coach and we want to do well,” Kalusha said.

“But the World will not stop and wait for Zambia so we will try and bring Zambian football to a level that is acceptable to the world.

“We want to surprise ourselves and to fulfill the dreams of every Zambian to reach the World Cup and reach the Africa Cup finals.”

Renard meanwhile said he was looking forward to his first time in full-charge as a national team coach.

The Frenchman had previously been on technical bench of ex-Ghana coach Claude Leroy’s just ended reign as trainer of the Black Stars.

“I hope we can build a good team and work very hard and now it is time to play (the game),” Renard said.

“My first target is tomorrows game (Against Botswana); it is an important tournament (CHAN) that we will use to build a team with our local players.”

Renard first full game in charge will come on May 21 in Tripoli when Zambia takes on Libya in an international friendly match.

Thereafter, Zambia opens their World and Africa Cup qualifiers with a Group 11 match away to Togo in Accra, Ghana on May 30.

And ZANIS reports that Vice President Rupiah Banda has urged the people of Zambia to accept the new Zambian National Soccer Team Coach Herve Renaud and not subject him to unnecessary discussions.

Mr. Banda said unnecessary discussions would derail Mr. Renaud’s plans for the Zambia National Soccer Team.

He said unwarranted discussions such as how Mr. Renaud’s remuneration would be should be left to the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ).

He was speaking to ZANIS in Lusaka today ahead of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) encounter between Botswana and Zambia slated for tomorrow at the Lusaka’s Woodlands Stadium. .

Mr. Banda, who is also former FAZ Vice President in the1970’s, expressed hope that Frenchman Renaud would deliver and enable Zambia qualify to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

“My expectation from the new coach is that Renaud will deliver. Let us the Zambian people give him the total support by embracing him so that Zambia qualifies to both Africa Cup and now 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

My message to the Zambian people is that let us not subject the coach on how much he gets and other unnecessary things, that’s petty but let us embrace him so that he enables the country qualify to now 2010 World Cup in South Africa,” the Vice President said.

Mr. Banda, who is also Chiparamba Football Club Chairman, has also congratulated the Kalusha Bwalya Executive for engaging a new and assured FAZ of government’s support from his office.

Frenchman Renaud, who was employed by Ghana Soccer Team as Physical Trainer, has taken over from Patrick Phiri who coached the Chipolopolo Boys.

Tomorrow’s CAF encounter between Botswana and Zambia would accord the new Chipolopolo Soccer Team Coach, Renaud an opportunity to watch the team’s performance.

  1. Frenchman Renaud, who was employed by Ghana Soccer Team as Physical Trainer

Renard meanwhile said he was looking forward to his first time in full-charge as a national team coach.

    Physical trainer? first time coach?

  2. We should have signed up Stephen Keshi (Nigeria). He is the best coach on the continent and he is African. But I suspect Renaud is being paid partly by the French, which might explain why we African coaches are sidelined.

  3. I hope that I won`t be proved wrong but I think that Renard will surprise a few because he`ll have alot to prove. What did the world renowed coach Alberto Ferrera do for Bafana Bafana to warrant the $250,000.00 monthly salary? Was Jose Mourinho even known by anybody before he went to coach Porto FC?Kalusha was arguably the most qualified African coach when he took charge of our team but unfortunately results didn`t follow such qualifications. What team did Keshi coach before he started managing TOGO?Yet he qualified Togo to their maiden world Cup.
My point is that we need to give Renard the support he needs so that we might have something to cheer about when we qualify to 2010 World Cup.

  5. #2 Chitapankwa
Stephen Keshi was also my personal choice but unfortunately FAZ didn`t act quickly to get him when he was available. That was the time FAZ was involved in it`s election campaigns.

  6. This spoilt brat Kalu is too proud, I doubt he would hire someone they played football together-Steven Keshi. That would be a vendetta against his coaching credentials. He would rather someone else not in his league succeed where he failed

  7. But people, do you think kalu will give this new man the free hand to do his own team selection and craft his own game plan as is required for a senior coach? I still dont know why Kalu chose to pursue the admin high seat at FAZ because i have a feeling he will not resist the temptation to try and influence the technical bench. Especially given that it will take the Frenchman long to even know where ‘Ichilata’ and other such local sources of talent come from so kalu will be restless at football house and will try to whisper who to call up and whom to drop

  8. Go Zambia!!!, Go Chipolopolo boys!!!….
I hope the former physical trainer know this rhythm!!!, wht a country!, why cant we sign a coach with coaching experience, how can we hope to change the current bad state of football in zed with this kind of deals? hahahaha!!!, its very regretable!

  9. what kalu is doing will hunt him in due course, he handpicked
Renaurd and he expects zambians to wait and see.im sure the guy is even kalu’s friend, the guy is a physical trainer zambians…he has nothing to deliver if he is going to pick from the same brand of players

  10. Yaba. But this ***** cant do anything. No Africa cup for Zambia, no world cup for Zambia. Lets just watch other teams on tv.

  11. Iwe Kafula, mwe bena Sambia mwaba shani? Who told you that it is Kalu that hand picked the new coach? Why do display so much hatred and spreading false rumous? The new coach was not hand picked. He underwent a selection process….and out all that had applied he was found the most suitable.Even you Kafula, this hatred and gossiping will hunt you one day. The bible says, the measures that you put on your collegues are the same measures that will be put on you.And our holy bible do not lie. Please stop spreading ubufi no buloshi mwe fi fibantu imwe!!……it is really bad and sad!!!

  12. Hey these two teams have no Lozis. Are they going to win I wonder? Lozis don’t wory, you are represented in the senior SIPOLOPOLO by the four TONGA bulls, bo Kankonje, bo Mweene, bo Himoonde and bo Mudenda.

  13. Football is dead in zambia, why should we keepon wasting money on such ventures,no matter how much they try zambia will never bring a african cup, what more world cup.cant we find some other sport,if not lets do away with sport, the only game zedians know to play better is sex

  14. Chapi #3…i totally agree with you on this one…surely lets give the brother a chance to prove himself….abena Zambia ifya kulanda-landa….But anyway as the saying goes “You can’t please everyone”….people will always talk ..whatever decison you make….Well lets wait and see!!….Chipolopolo 4 life!!!!

  17. #17 Zamtroop learn to be serious, yr friends are contributing sensible issues now with you, from all the sport in this world you just go ahead think about sex. Is sex a sport or its just in your head? Quiet ok we know that football is dead in Zambia because of selfish leaders who intruduced this animal called privatisation of companies which had interest in the sport.

  18. ?14 please learn not only to follow the Game but also politics behind the Game, why didn’t Kalu publish the list of shotlisted candidates for the top Job,believe me most zambians are in a wait and see state.. kalu thinks he knows the game better than any zedian,Renard has just come to hustle us, kalu is still a coach for zambia, just like putin is still Russia’S president..a good coach has to be a mentol to the players, somebody who can bring out the desire from the players to die a little for zambia,he doesn’t have to be white!!! i was informed that lucky musiska is going to be on the technical bench. under what criteria was he offered the job? so sad!!!!!

  23. #23 Kafula Bwalya
Some shortlisted candidates prefer not having their names published for fear of jeopardising their current employment status. For this reason FAZ operated within it`s guidelines not to publish the shortlisted names.
Otherwise, let`s just move on and support Renard and our national team.It doesn`t help crying over spilt milk.

  24. Ground troops, can you guys tell me if you watched the game on TV? What was the camera work like?

I got my folks to record the game vs Swaziland and post it to me in the UK. I was so excited when the DVD arrived I rushed home from work, opened a load, put the armchair right infront of the TV and put the DVD in. I was so disappointed, the camera was situated at ground level by the cornerflag!!! In my 30 years of watching football I have never seen this set up for filming a game. ZNBC are real amatures, how can you film a game from that sitation it is ridiculous!

  25. Congrats boys for demolishing Botwana. These are good signs. I hope our new coach has noted the talent. Let us at least lift the home based CAF cup.

  26. With all the criticism he is getting about his CV or lack thereof, I think Renard is going to do a good job because y’all don’t expect him to perform. All great coaches that you know started from somewhere…Prove me wrong in 2010. Africa Cup coming soon to a town near you, watch this space…

  27. You guys never learn. Guy will be teaching our boys Keep Fit and you’re happy! Kulibonesha that you know football – face the facts, as long as you’re bringing in low calibre, you’ll get low calibre. Sometimes I wonder if I have to do this myself.

  28. it was interestin 2 c our new coach in chez ntemba on friday nite! i think the boys wil have a wonderful time with him he is so out goin. yesterday he was @ rhapsodys again. i think he has a cool refreshin atmosphere which is good. u know wat i mean, PLAY HARD WORK HARD. Zambia will never set foot @ the world cup, not in the next 50 yrs! i bet my soul. we gota learn 2b serious

  29. I’m suprised by some people trying to adopt a ‘wait and see’ strategy for the new coach. ‘Give him chance.. let him prove himself’. What type of planning is this where you have no goals, objectives and targets. If Renard boy win a few games.. thank God.. and if performs badly.. we will fire him!!. The bottomline is we’re wasting our time and resources by hiring an inferior coach. You can not hire a sub A to run an multi-national company and expect miracles. The art of planning is about forecasting the likelihold of success or failure. Let’s refrain from wishful thinking for once!

  30. Steven Keshi could not wait for FAZ to appoint him. He sent his CV and they FAZ only appointed a coach this month. He has a history and he would have done wonders to Zambia. but wait, was zambia going to cough out more that 25 pin dollars for Steve?
Anyway i guess the physical trainer will do wonders. We have the skill but we are not physically fit we need the stamina. I hope the boys will be more fit now that we have employed a physical trainer. Keshi once said the chip boys are good and they just lucky the physic they are able to upset any team in Africa and the world. Viva France.

  31. ba 49 what can u do take it or leave it. he has been given the job PE in the field we are the champs we are we are we are.

  32. In as much as we can talk my fellow Zmabians, he has already been given the Job lets just wait and see if he fails, we do what we know best. Lets just hope he willmake it because we have not enough time to fail and change at all.

  33. Ladies and Gentlemen, You can get the best coach in world to Coach for our team and yield no good results.

I am a professional Coach in the USA and I know what it takes to build a great atheletes. Its almost impossible to have a great team of 11. There maybe few on the team that are committed.

I have been coaching for a number of years and no matter what great of a coach you are, you only responsible for small percentage in the success of a player. Most of it comes from the players. I wonder when I hear all these call about getting a coach and so forth.

We have been in this business for a while to know what it takes to build players or formidable teams. “die a liltle” D liwew

  34. Take time and think of what our new coach would think of the zambians if he read all these insults directed to him.People understand one thing kalu didnt hand pick the coach. They was a panel of analysts who went for the best coach to fill the position.Lets just suport our coach, lets support our boys.It never pays to always be negative. My fellow zambians teams like angola are advancing because of being focused.Look at us?Tekanyeni eh
