Sinazongwe Community Accuse ZAMBEEF of exploiting them

Share

Chief Sinazongwe’s representative has charged that ZAMBEEF in the area is indirectly stealing from the community through fixing the cattle price below the market value.

Louis Manje said the community was worried with the price at which the company was buying their animals.

.

Mr. Manje told ZANIS in an interview that ZAMBEEF was charging K8, 000 per kg for an animal that was weighing 130 kg while 131 kg and above was being pegged at K9, 000.

He said though ZAMBEEF was helping the people to have easy access to market, management should change its attitude to the community.

“ZAMBEEF management must have regard for people and should explain the criteria used to come up with different prices otherwise it is a diplomatic way of stealing from people,” Mr. Manje said.

Mweenda ward councilor Bernad Kalata has appealed to government to lift the ban on stock movement to enable people in Sinazongwe sell their animals at competitive prices.

Mr. Kalata stated people would be able to derive the value of their animals if they sold them at competitive prices.

He said the ban and severe hunger in the district was forcing people to sale their animals to ZAMBEEF at a low price for them to buy maize.

The councilor described the ZAMBEEF prices as inhuman and a punishment to people who have no where they could sale their animals.

He said most of them were waiting for government to lift the ban for them to start taking their animals to Lusaka where market was competitive.

  1. AND AM YET TO FIND A ZAMBEEF SHOP THAT SELLS CHEAP BEEF IF YOU BUY MORE THAN A CERTAIN NUMBER OF KILOGRAMMS, YET THEY BUY IT CHEAP FROM THE FARMERS.

  2. They claim they fatten these cows ku huntleys in chisamba before killing them for beef, but again companies in zambia think they operate in a vacuum, there is no sense of social responsibility, but again these things can only be done by appropriate legistlation which is not there.

  3. What happened to Kembe ranch, Zambezi cropping, Batoka state ranch (if it’s still called state ranch) etc? Instead of ranching only,i believe these can also supply beef to dilute the monopoly Zambeef has.

  4. It is a question of take it or leave it. Stop complaining everytime, look for solutions, that is why you have brains in your heads.

  5. Zambeef has monopolized the beef industry in Zambia and no one is on the side of poor farmers. They started in Western Province and now Southen Province. The aim is to wipe out all rural animals and reduce competetion. They have ranches and will continue keeping animals. They buy meet animals at cheap prices and resel the same at exorbitant prices. Where is the GRZ when all this legalsed day light robery is taking place. Why cant the carring government help the famers thrughthe supply of Committed vertrinary offcers who will teach the individual farmer and help them come up with best methods of rearing animals in a communal way rather than inivdualised way. What are these famers going to do

  6. with this little money raised from the same.Cattle keepers have no other hobby and nothing has been put in place for the future of victims of Zambeef.Rural people have no capacity to lead a different life and something good should be put in place. Its unfortunate people are robed day and night without any future help. If the animals are not helth and if there is no medicine for he same why should Zbeef buy. GRZ HELP the pipo and dont be a taking shop. Find future slutions for the victims rather than enriching yourslves throuh aquisition of Shares from Zbeef and ALLOWANCES for dribing helpless famers in the rural areas. They stii need their animals.

  7. another case of a lack of infrastructure, legislation, will of the pipo. all we do is complain – whatever happened to Galaunia farms and the others – is Zambia really only set up for monopolies in each sector but mining!!!

  8. I think someone is getting money from the same mostly those from above. Why banning? They benefit from it.

  9. Zambeef has always been a company with alot of question marks. Remember when it opened its branch in Mungu(Mongu) the same concerns of undervalueing was raied. Furthermore, when they bought Amanita the price of cooking was increased. And many more.
Though the investments which the company has made is appreciated the management wants to rip even where they not invested which need to checked. Its acquisitions of new firms some how is leading to a very bad curtail as far as retail prices are concerned.
Can the Competetion Commission do some thing to protect the farmers and consumers???
We want equal share in the economy!!!!
