  1. In an emergency you dont wait for tomorow to hold prayers;or maybe’its as the Spirit leads.May GOD the father’s mercy be upon our beloved President

  2. Bishops;in an emergency you dont wait for tomorow to hold prayers;or is it like they say’as the Spirit leads.May it please GOD the Father that our beloved president be healed

  3. fellow zambians, its time put behind the wrongs that our president has done – now is to time to stand together in prayer fo him. lets show support and warm heart to him. time to join hands and pray fo him is now.

  4. Sad news, but I am hopeful you will be fine Mr President LP Mwanawasa SC (Honourary Doctor).

Please, pray for yourself Mr President too as we pray for you because God, our Creator, our Father answers prayer(s) (Matthew 21:22 Holy Bible – And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive).

  5. Well, what is now wrong with the Egyptian hospitals??? How come you didn’t get evacuated to the UK?? Tricky situation when one is trying to treat a patient via an interpreter!!

  6. I am now confused! why France??? It’s on record that our president has always been seen by specialist Doctors in the UK. Please God help us and may you interven. We need LPM more than ever to continue with his good leadership and development programmes which are yeilding blessings for our beloved mother land.

  7. There english speaking doctors in France. Was it a tricky situation in an Arabic speaking country? Let the President get the best healthy care the world can provide.

  8. Ala Bungwe, that’s why you are bungwe! Reality is you can have all the money in the world, but you can’t buy a life. If you don’t know, the health facilities he always checks himself into are private, who operate on a profit basis, some of us have had the priveledge to work in some of them, to be blunt, anyone in any condition is accepted & kept alive as long as possible, as long as dosh is coming in!! So what you may consider the best that money can buy, is really deceiving yourself!! If our leaders had any sense, they would invest in our local health system. The problem is they are so paranoid about indigenous professionals, never trusting abilities, at least KK & Kashoki are patriots!!

  9. May the Almighty Jehovah God heal our dear president. We need him as others have said, now more than ever. May our prayers be heard by our Gracious God.

  10. Getting a bit complicated now.Started with severe chest pains which could be a myocardio Infarct if left sided i.e heart attack. His blood pressure was high leading to a CVA or stroke.
No one knows the extent of the damage.Whether he is fully consciuos or not?Is he on a life support? What do the scans and other investigations show?
Depending on the type of cerebral bleed and what part of the brain is affected is how he may present.
Symptoms are pointing to a blood clot which could have led to ischaemia but then again we do not know. One can only speculate.

  11. #11 I do agree with you that something needs to be done to improve our health sector.Zambia has very good and competent medical staff but what we lack most are facilities. How can a country survive on 2 CT scans for example?(Infact it is only one as Chiluba gave one freely to the Chinese in order to appease them). Why not create a diagnostic centre for each provincial general hospital?
Sata had an experience in SA which prompted him to challenge the current govt to improve our hospitals. Our leaders can afford to be evacuated anywhere in the world using tax payers money but my heart goes to the poor unknown people who are left to die.

  12. Sekulu Mugabe has stooped so low as to use his wizards in order to keep Africa from Speaking up.

Majority of Africa’s leaders have come into power using Dubious methods (e.g Vote rigging, Human rights violations) and so it is unlikely that any of them will speak Against Zimbabwe.

Only leaders who have used democratic methods can speak against Zimbabwe and all it takes is for one person to start the process and others will follow. Too bad those who have used the right methods to go into power in Africa are a minority or non-existent. I would pay money to see the president of Sudan to say something on Zimbabwe but he cant because Mugabe will just point at the Dafur situation.

  13. cont…

To expect the President of Egypt to say something on Zimbabwe is unrealistic because the same president has been ruling for 27 years and rigged the elections last year.

Raila Odinga has spoken on Zimbabwe but come on, he is the same person who orchestrated the violent demonstrations that happened in Kenya after the elections. Do you really want such a person to represent us.

Africa is a joke period. LPM is the only one who would have started taking against Zimbabwe and other Legitimate leaders would have joined him but now they are shaking in there boots because they all expected LPM to make the first move.

    Anywayz, Get well soon LPM.

  14. Personally I don’t trust the French medical system. I’m sure many of us remember Yasser Arafat who died in a french hospital in paris back in 2004.

I hope LPM pulls through and gets out of danger. He should come back home and retire, settle down and enjoy a stress free lifestyle.

  15. It is amazing how Zambia’s only response to everything is prayer. Even when leaders are abusing our kindness, we resolve only to pray. Only recently someone I know had a similar condition – extreme high blood pressure followed by a mild stroke. She was refused emergency admission to the nearest hospital because she did not have money. It was very late at night, but an hour later they managed to find a government clinic where there was no proper treatment to speak of. Fortunately her blood pressure has been brought down by drugs paid by well wishers and she is getting better. In the meantime these so called leaders are heading off, at great expense to us, for these costly treatments … cont

  16. … LPM, Sata and a host of other Zambians suffer from the same few diseases. It does not take a genius to work out that, with political commitment, we could have a centre of excellence in Lusaka saving a lot of lives and saving us a lot of money. Instead, we continue with the same culture of deference to these people who believe their lives are much more important. They can afford to pay for their treatment but choose to fleece the tax payer. In the meantime those of us who can ill afford are left to die – And all every Zambian can do is pray!

  17. Physiological condition, mentally an psychologically bad news.
Your excellency, the small boy you saw in a white suit an spoke to you in China (who you niknamed ‘David Mwanawasa’ wishes you quick and wonderful recovery in the name of God our Heavenly father an owner of life an creation.
May Him as the most experienced and Indomitable Doctor, treat an heal your condition with His hand and word of mouth. We all lift our heads up in prayer for you.

  18. If prayer could save lives, Zambians would have the highest life expectancy on earth! Sadly, at 37 years, we have one of the lowest on earth.

  19. #24 & 25, that’s my cry too and i wonder why our leaders especially the president can’t see sense in putting up a structure that will benefit all. I mean UTH had and still has the presidential suite. Why not pump in money to refurbish such facilities? If they hide in the name of expert or professional doctors, Zambia has plenty. Some of these hospitals and clinics our leaders run to are operating on Zambian human power. The bottom line is these leaders are SIMPLY SELFISH.

  20. The same applies to Lusaka International Airport, for God’s sake, these proud for nothing leaders should upgrade LIA to something admirable. It pains me everytime i see LIA and compare it with Oliver Tambo Int Airport for example.
Our leaders use these facilities yet no one comes to think of how the same facilities can be upgraded to more of international standards rather than just a name as an “International airport” yet there is very little traffic and there are less facilities to be proud of. How much money does the presidential entourage spend on air fares? Billions of Pay As You Earn.

  21. May the Lord remember our President and heal him today in the mighty name of Jesus who is the banner over this land. May that healing be seen by all and may those who see it glorify the living God. Amen.

  22. stroke can’t be treated by prayers!! Whats wrong with u people??#28 has spoken and it would only take a fool to negate his facts!

  23. Chickens have come home to roost!

Sad that LPM’s illness has taken for worse. Had he been recovering in Egypt, there would not have been any need to evacuate him to France.

LPM should have spent all the funds he spent buying his presidential helicopter and the Y-12 planes on UTH and its equipment and personnel so that we do not run around looking for clinics around the world when we get sick.

  24. may the God lord grant our president quick recovery and restore him to good health. hey! maybe its time for mwanasawasa to resign as his Job is demanding hence taking toil on his health.

  25. Get well Soon Mr. President. Personally I hope our president retires when he pullls through this. His schedule is just too hectic for someone with a health history like him.

  26. Can somebody from govt give us the full & detailed update on LPM’s condition. What does it mean he is in a stable condition. And now you evacuate him to France. Is he conscious, what parts where affected affected by the stroke? I thought from Egypt he will either come straight to Zambian or walk into a specialist clinic in UK. Why this evacuation now for specialist treatment. What broke this time?

  27. What happened to the israeli prime minister when he was evacuated to France? HE IS STILL IN A COMA
What happened to Yasser Arafat when taken to France? HE IS DEAD.
Yet we send Levy to the same country.

  28. i remeber last year i posted a comment saying LPM should have left politics when the first attack happened. I am posting another one again , Levy Patrick Mwanawasa please retire, your heart is geting weaker and weaker. Listen to your body not your wife. you will die and she will marry another man,

  29. No 43. I have been trying to findout where Mr. Sharon is. So he is still in a coma wow. Thanks for the info I hope you got it from a reliable source.

  30. Allah keep our great leader in his safe hands and heal him in a timely fashion so that he can continue doing his work not just in Zambia but the African sub-region. May Allah bless his great soul – alla ysalmak

  31. Wish quick recovery LPM. We put all our differences behind and look to God. May God our father of our Lord Christ Jesus heal our president.

  32. Kibaki mwaume, had Mazoka also done the same, we would not be faced with all this uncertainty now. The judiciary should also be brough to book for allowing a clearly sick man to run for president when the costitution clearly forbids. Just wait and see how these pathetic stinkers of the bench never learn from history, they will allow Sata to run again despite his failing heart ravaged by disease.

  33. #46 It’s common knowledge that if your father is taken into or admitted in hospital the daughter or closest family will be flown to be with the father.LPM needs his closest family now more than ever to be at his bed side.I guess you don’t have a child other wise you would not show your ignorance.

  34. # 48 the fact of the matter is as long as LPM IS under severe pressure he will continue to be sick . the best will be for him to step aside, have less presure and he will be sick less.

  35. Just got some quotes from VOA of Mulongoti
    ===========
Sometimes strokes can lead to paralysis and speech impairment. Mulongoti said he does not think President Mwanawasa had been speaking since the stroke.

“I don’t think so because he is in the intensive care. So I don’t think it would be possible for people to expect him to be speaking,” he said.
    ——

  36. # 47 that is me in the flesh. # 56 my point was why did Chipo go to Egypt? Yes LPM needs his family now but not when he was going to Egypt.# 48 Eagles eye, if you have a heart you would encourage LPM to step down.LPM is getting sick because of work. he should retire. Because we will continue to go round in circles, he gets sick , goes to Europe, gets to work then again we start again. it is indeed expensive

  37. Sad that crooks like Mugabe are fit while democrats like Levy are sick. When are the next elections in Zambia? I believe the chief justice, parliament, MMD and opposition should find a solution either Levy continues as lame duck prez or we have elections. I am not against Levy but the man is sick.

  38. I think MMD insiders are trying to get rid of LPM by sending him to france instead of his normal GP in the UK. It seems the MMD insiders are engaged in a power struggle hoping that when he is “out of the game”, they can take over from him and appoint themselves as MMD candidates in the event that we have early presidential elections. We all know the poor history of france and hosting political patients e.g. Sharon and Yasser Arafat. Sometimes they say, your close friends could be your worst enemies. All the best LPM, hope you can get out of this tricky situation and join your family back home then retire.

  39. #59 I don’t know if Chipo went to Egypt with the original entourage or she was flown after the Father got sick.If she went earlier then was it tax payers money which is wrong and you have the right to query.

  40. How many of our Ministers, civil servants, wives and children are in Egypt/France at taxpayer’s expense and what is their contribution at the summit. I cant even see any one of them on CNN, BBC, Aljazeera contributing something big to be captured. It’s like we are still in the FTJ era.

    Mr President, get well soon

  41. The VEEP is also a patient in the waiting, I’m sure with the new found responsibilities as the man in charge until LPM comes back, his BP will shot up because of stress. In fact RB is even older than the president, he is just as fat too so that makes him a likely candidate for strokes and other heart attacks. Rupiah Banda was once qouted in the media saying when investors insult Zambian workers, no one should complain because that is the culture of investors. He went on to say Zambians should not fight back if they are abused by investors because they are creating jobs for them, what a leader! This can only happen in Zambia.

  42. i argee with #45 we are spending too much on sick presidents just recently we footed Satas medical expenses i think its times we tried Hichilema for president than sick and old people

  43. #12-Your name sounds congolese..are you sure you are Zambian or just travelling on a Zambian Passport and have claim to our presdo??

  44. Why is everybody getting excited? Why has he been flown to France and not Zambia? Is it what our constitution says? Do you expect him to improve facilities in Zed if whenever he falls sick he is flown out of the country?

My mother in law needed an operation last year which could not be done in Zed. We tried to get help from the government and were told there was nothing the government could do. We were running out of time and ended up putting our little monies together and sent her to South Africa where we ended up with a £10, 000 bill.

Some lives are more important than others. Sorry but he will not be getting a get well soon message from me I am afraid.

  45. You people who are saying this and that about which hospital. Do you know that each one of us has an appointed time by God when we should depart this earth???? It does not matter whether Levy is in UTH, France or UK when God says yes no one no matter how good the doctors or medical facility can say yes. Good Doctors and facilities only make sense when God still gives you life and you only go into hospital temporarily to facilitate the healing coming from him in conditions and atmosphere. If it is time for Levy, nothing you say or do will change anything. We only pray to God to have his way on LPM’s life but we do wish him well.

  46. May the almighty God heal my beloved president. Every one now is realising your invaluable contribution to the nation. Indeed you were put on the throne of Zambia by the one who appoints leaders (God).

  47. #73 Don’t worry, we got your message, like Sata once said, we all just learnt this foreign langauge called English, no one is an expert at it.

On LPM, I think the best that he could have done with his poor health history is to build a few mega hospitals around the country because not everyone has access to be evacuated to a foreign hospital all paid up by the state. I think this is LPM biggest failure.

  48. God if such a statement came from Number 10 or the White house, I can imagime what those on state benefits would say.

There are a lot of people in Zed who are dying from conditions that can easily be prevented or treated. I was saddened when I went to Kitwe Central Hospital. I went to ITU which is not even supposed to be called ITU. All they had in there was an old pump on a patient who had cerebral malaria. No monitor no nothing!

No wonder he is flown to South Africa. I know I will have a few knockers but wait until you are told your mother in-law needs an operation or she will die! Blimey!

  49. Some lives are more important than others. Sorry but he will not be getting a get well soon message from me I am afraid.

  50. LPM get well soon we stil need you,let us all just join in hands and pray for him.the bad comments pipo are makin can be done later

  51. Few people on this blog have compassion, most wish good for them selves and wish others bad. Most live for today and see their lives as is in the present form. They feel perfect and think they are immortal beings.Let LMP have the best doctors that can be found,it does not matter the costs.Let us pray for him those who can and know that a human body is Gods creation and God can do any thing he wishes. Those who do not believe in prayers are a curse to themselves. And surely, less do they belive that they live because God wants them to.I feel so bad for Mwanawasa so much in his family has happened, my heart weighs down with saddness for a man with so much loss on his hand.May he live.

  52. #71 mil… hahahahaha.. u r joking, right? chinese, koreans and most scandinavian countries dont believe in God but yet their life expectancy indices are impresive (over 75 years)..0.01 prevlance rate fo AIDS…crime rate in these countries is equally low!! So educate me on the Criteria God is using…because to me good health facilities + educated mass on risky lifestyles=healthy country!!!
i dream of a day when zambians will the freed from the handcaffs of the mind (religion)!! coz its an insult to the intelligence of mankind!!

  53. Yes indeed God is creator and is able to do anything in our bodies, but remember God has also appointed a time for each one of us to depart this earth and when that time comes nothing can change the situation. This is not to say LPM’s time has or has not come, that is the prerogative of the almighty. We can just pray that the Lord must have his way in our lives including LPM. When God says yes, no doctor, hospital or well wisher can say no. We wish him well though.

  54. #80 Ned a life is a life no matter hw simple or uneducated one is. It is sad he is taken ill. But for him to be evacuated to France is criminal. Why is he going there and not Zed? If you fell ill and you were in the States, you pay for yourself.

There are a lot of Zambians there who are dying because they can not be flown to France.

Get well soon! Not from me. His life is more important than others. You wait until you have a family member needing treatment outside Zed. That is when you will see how sad our situation is. Unless you are rich.

  55. god, allah, etc – people get real. #70 am sorry about your mother inlaw, hope she recovered, but reality is that some lives are more important than others. Shld LPM die the cost on the country is far greater than if one of us goes.

  56. #13,i salute you,we probably belong to the same profession of one of the highly educated but least remunerated.Working in a health institution where you have the expertise to cure but you aint got any equipment. This is the most painful experience to an MD,seeing your client dying when you would have saved their life.I personally have no pity to such Selfish Politicians,in any case who said their lives are more valuable than the poor common zambians i witness dying because we cannot afford CT and MRI equipment, atase kabalefwa fye.No Get Well MSGE from me,second episode of stroke,i can imagine the PROGNOSIS.

  57. France has one of the best medical facilities in the world better than the UK according to medical insiders in UK. Arafat could not have been saved anywhere because his time had come. Nyerere died in UK if my memory saves me right. Indeed even if the medical facilies were perfect in Zed evacuation is always to the nearest facility. France is nearest to Egypt, even Mbeki could not have been evacuated to SA but to Europe in an emmergecy. Nonetheless, govt should work hard to ensure the best of med. care 4 all its pipo as KK tried. LPM is still our preso and we should wish him quick recovery so that he can be told the truth when he returns eg retire, improve facilites etc.

  58. i totally agree with #71 please fellow Zeds we all have a day when illness strike. what matters is the Amighty God knows what is ahead of us. May the Lord heal our president amen

  59. #83,I support your sentiments,i happen to have lost both my mum and dad to Diabetes and Stroke respectively and here in Zambia.I was so young at the time, and was literary brought up by uncles till by God’s grace attained the level of education that i have.I have no pity for KK,FTJ and LPM.They all had time to work and improve the health sector but failed lamentably,no wonder few if not none of their relatives come back alive. They come in a box,and they will continue coming like that.Do not be cheated,God is never mocked, and what prayers? Panse!!!

  60. #67 I dont think Levy was afraid to face Bob as you are thinking, but it could be that he was so annoyed that his fellow leaders were not getting strong on Bob. I am sure you have seen that its only bashi Chipo that had called Zim a sinking Titanic and lately he called on the elections to be postponed in Zim. Other SADC leaders have not been of great help to bashi Chip in their language over Zim and Bob.

  61. #64, I think Chipo has been to Japan too and someone raised a question about Chipo’s Japan travel. Actually, the writer of the question was wondering why Chipo was in Japan when his/her friends were laerining in school – I think primary school then. If my memory serves me right, the Japan trip was before these strokes ot heart-attacks started showing up in H.E. LPM.

However, it is a great idea that Chipo is by our President’s side in France as a family member or is it representative.

  62. Wishing you a quick recovery Mr. President. We dont want trouble in our country. Right now we dont even know who would replace you. Sata is sick, pls not Katele Kalumba or Shikapwasha. they are not eligible. Maybe Magande or Hakainde ha! ha! Kaya

  63. #86 Spot on! No get well message from me. He is using tax payers money. Let him die just like a person from kawama would.

  64. #95 what is the population of Zed? You mean out of the millions we have in Zed we can not find a person better than the one in France?

Mamuyayaya? Anyone? Kamuzu? Bob? It is only in poor countries that leaders stay for more than 10 years. Do you know the implications? Go back and research. The fact that you have a PC/Laptop should make it easy for you girl pants.

  65. #85, Animal farm was written tongue in cheek, thus don’t just borrow lines from it, YOU WERE MEANT TO BE LEARNING FROM IT HOW TO TREAT OTHERS EQUALLY, not to be as fixated as Boxer!!! It is humanity that lifts people onto a pedestal & make them think they are more important than others, if that had been the case, God would have immortalised them!!!

  66. #96 as much as you had gone through problems with your relative over her sickness BUT wishing Levy death will NOT reverse what you went through. He may die or not BUT who will NOT die?

  67. If he is not speaking, then he is not the one making decisions about being flown to france.
If all our leaders were to get tratment only in Zambia…by law. our health services would improve.
    Quick recovery levy.

  68. There is nothing wrong with Prez travelling with his kids. Did not Laura Bush come to Zambia with daughter people stop taking rubbish. Levy is the most progressive president we have hard since indenpendence. Presidents travel with their kids from time to time. I like Levy but I think he must retire on health grounds.
When are the next elections in Zambia, people.

  69. Life expectancy in Zed is currently at 42 years for both males and females. So those who are still thinking about the 37 yr statistic, it is old and we are making progress.

    h t t p : / / news . bbc . co . uk / 2 / hi / africa / country_profiles / 1069294 . stm

  70. All of a sudden, announcements on LPM are being made by the VP and yet we have a government spokesman and we also have a statehouse spokesperson.wHERE IS MULONGOTI?

  71. 104, please this is a serious matter, the VP is now acting president, he has to take responsibility, if Bush gets sick today do you expect the White House spokesman to giving updates or the Dick Cheney?

  72. Bashidada from Windhoek, Laura bush can afford to bring the whole family tree. The economy has money and we dont. And besides Laura ‘s visit was not business. This chipo girl needs to be in school and not globe trotting. She must see what happened to Castrol chiluba.

  73. # 105 Chipo had no right to go to Egypt. Do you know that her presence there cost us not less than $100,000.00? That is correct . Do you know how much we can do with that money. Dont compare Z with the States or even Namibia it self. We are a poor country. She probably must head back home since we cant afford extra costs. France is expensive. The black Jesus from Chimwemwe is right, Laura bush can afford to carry with her the whole Bush clan and their neighours because USA has the money

  74. Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt – Head of the Egyptian hospital that treated Zambia’s president after he fell ill during the African Union summit, says the Zambian leader was in a semi-coma but “still alive” when evacuated to Paris.

Saeed Abdel Fattah Essa says the Zambian president had a “brain hemorrhage” which Egyptian doctors managed to stop. Essa also says that Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak visited the Zambian at the hospital before he was flow to France at 7pm on Tuesday.

President Levy Mwanawasa was rushed to hospital on Sunday and his vice president said late on Tuesday in Lusaka that Mwanawasa’s condition “still remains stable.”

  75. Breakdown of expenses
Travel to Egypt first class: $10,000.00
    Accomodation 5 star + MEALS $ 15,000.00
    Body Guards( meals,travel,pay)$ 45,000.00
    Miscellenous expense( shopping)$ 15,000.00
This roughly how much it would cost Chipo to go to Egypt. But since she has flown to France this bill will almost double.

Mr Brother from Namibia , this sort of expense is obscene especially for a country like ours

  76. So far no update as to how the Pres is doing has been made.Rupiah told the nation that it was a mild stroke but from my understanding of a mild stroke it seldom has any lasting effects and can go unnoticed.
The first 24-48 hours are quite crucial in that they will determine which direction he is heading for. It’s possible that he might be heavily sedated and on a life support until symptoms like cerebral oedema subsides as well as controlling his BP.
I feel it is important for the State House spokesman if he knows his job to update the nation on the pres’ condition.THE NATION HAS THE RIGHT TO KNOW.

  77. 110 thanx for the update. a brain hamaerroge is not as small thing. The president must be i great danger. Egypt has the best doctors if they can decide to fly out to France a patient then it is quiet serious. I dont LPM will be the same again after this.

  78. Are we heading for another reconciliation? it seems like after near deaths Zambian politicians run to reconcile with enemies. Chiluba get ready for a pardon

  79. #110 are you sure about this info, it sound really serious. This is exactly the Arafat situation if my memory serves me right. What website can we find the said info?

  80. #s 112 and 114,you are so objective in your analysis,we are not being told the truth as a nation about LPM’s condition. This is criminal of Veep to just say he is stable when the Docs in Egypt, who are highly equiped but of course not more educated than me and you recommended his evacuation.Who do the govt think they can fool, when we see this condition almost on daily basis in our hospitals. Its high time Zambians took these turn- coat leaders to task.Anyway we will just keep on relying on the truth from Egypt and France, osathi boza yaba RB.I know what CVA and Cerebral Haemorrhage can cause.

  81. # 43 Yes sharon is still in coma he has been on a life support machine for some years now. He is still in France. All i can say is get well soon LPM

  82. #111 This is a serious matter being discussed where did you get these statistics you are using?

  83. chipo has the right to be with her dad whether *****s on this forum like it or not. that is the presidentila entitlement. the president can even order that the whole mwanawasa clan travels to france on your asses expense and no problem.

  84. stroke is caused by cerebrovascular(brain vessels) disease, which can be ischemic (lack of blood perfusion) or hemorrhagic (blood leak) in nature!! stroke is serious regardless of the etiology!
    common stroke sequelae include
    1. anosognosia: the inability to identify body dysfunction-patients are unaware of their deficits.
    2. Aphasia: deficit in comprehension or expression of spoken or wtitten language (levy??)
    3. Apraxia: disturbance in the ability to perform learned motor tasks( a reason for our president to retire)
    4. Dysarthia disturbance in the articulation of speach
    5. Dysphagia: Difficulty in swallowing

high blood pressure contributes to over 70% of strokes! (levy is there)

  85. …..Nobody chooses to get sick, so get well soon Levy, but I concur with Farai just not on the bitter side though. Even though Sata talks too much, but the time as minister of Health he really changed and improved a lot of things in the health sector. more especially the attitude of nurses!!!

  86. #122 Talking about Sata have you read what he is saying today in the Post that Mugabe clearly won the elections and that the people of Zim have given him the right to lead? This time Sata has lost it no one will try to give him chance to lead ZED if he is talking like this.

  87. Doctor: Zambian president in semi-coma
    2 hours ago

SHARM EL-SHEIK, Egypt (AP) — The head of an Egyptian hospital says Zambia’s president was in a semi-coma when medically evacuated to Paris from the African Union summit.

Saeed Abdel Fattah Essa says President Levy Mwanawasa had a “brain hemorrhage,” which Egyptian doctors stopped when he was taken to his hospital on Sunday. Essa says Wednesday that Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak visited Mwanawasa before his evacuation Tuesday evening. A semi-coma is a mild or partial comatose state.

Zambia’s vice president says in Lusaka that Mwanawasa’s condition “still remains stable.”

Mwanawasa was at the African Union summit when he got si

  88. Pls can our learned friends on this blog explain to us what “brain hemorrhage” is? and the changes of one getting better. We need to know the truth! not ubufi bwa BA BANDA(vp).

  89. #31, yes we definately need to up grade our health facilities, but we should not be in hurry to do the same for LIA. Oliver Thambo airport you compare it to has in excess of 10 times traffic and volume of people per hour more than LIA. LIA’s traffic and volume of people remains very low, such that the place has excess capacity. Unless you’re talking of giving it a new facelift, there is no immediate need to expand it for the moment.

  90. #111 wat is your point? This is no time to make justifications on expenses. We need prayers for our president.

  91. A brain haemorrhage in Levy’s case could have been as a result of a burst in the blood vessels that supply the brain due to raised blood pressure.

The prognosis or outcome depends on the extent of the damage e.g if the part of the bleed affects the speach centre the he is likely to lose his speech.

  92. #110, where did you get your info? This sounds extremely grave!!When I heard about the evacuation to Paris my heart skipped a beat cause nothing good can could have caused it. This is serious stuff now.

  93. #125 Regarding the issue of sata, sometimes i could support his views. Look here colleagues, despite all the problems going on in our neighbouring country, of all the 2.5 (Est) Mil people who voted in the last elections 2.0 million voted for Bob. If you read the herald news paper for yestaday, you will see letters from some Zim brothers who are saying that its only the media which has given Zim a bad name yet things are not that bad. In addition, right now our Zim brothers and sisters are going about there businesses as if all is well. When i remember what happened to Zambia between 1985 and 1991, by now there would be demonstrations. But thats not what you see in Zim. So what should we say ?

  94. People things don’t look good for Mwanawasa but us Zambians always overcome set backs. Remember when we lost the team in Gabon. I don’t see Mwanawasa coming back to office even if he pulls through. I live in Namibia, who in MMD is capable and who in opposition is capable. We may end going back to set backs of having a Chiluba like President again. I am worried.

  95. If the bleed is on the left side of the brain then the right side becomes paralysed.
You understand that the brain is a very complex organ which controls the functions of all the rest of the body’s organs.Until we know for sure through scans and other investigations the extent of the damage coupled with what sort of responce he is making we cannot be certain but only speculate.
Treament is very complicated-they might try surgery to remove the clot while supporting his breathing and also try and bring his BP down.
Other complications are frequent fits and a constantly elevated temperature as a result of the regulatory centre being affect.

  96. we should all pray for Dr levy .P.mwanawasa that he pulls through and comes back to office in JC’name!

  97. People, from the silence or one-line responses we are getting from Govt, things really look bad. If the President, God forbid, were to be in a position that he could not carry out his functions effectively, then what happens? Could the learned members of this forum advise on what the current constitution says on such events taking place.

  98. My dear #127,what my fellow learned colleague #121 has explained is the basic answer we can give you as at now.And the end state he has ably outlined are the likely complications that follow. But baffles me is that when you tune in on France Radio International, they are giving adequate and update information on the President’s state, whilst in Zambia there is almost a total info blackout. This idea of hiding information to the general public should cease.Remember when Blair had that Bypass? The British people kept vigil and prayed for their leader,NO HE IS STABLE,HELL NO!! HE IS NOT,FAR FROM THAT!Infact a VEEP should be a running mate from now on,not cadres, job seekers. How do you trivialise such

  99. If he dies Vice becomes president and elections are to take place within six months. If he is very sick, chief justice will appoint a committee of health experts, if they recommend he is unfit, then Veep takes charge. I am not worried but the contitution, I am worried about capable people, I don’t see anyone in MMD with potential. Sata also had a heart attack, whta about HH, can he rule?

  100. Ba Hola thanks for your explanation at let even me with little knowledge of brain diseases got something! Bane lets be on our kneels to prayer for our presdo so that he does not come as cargo but as a passenger.

  101. So basically we are saying RB is potentially H.E in waiting….and does he rule till the end of this term like the americans do?

  102. God forgive us.Every one!s health is in God!s hand.Yes,God!s program can!t be changed.Even a healthy person can die.No.68 you need to prepare your soul too.Death is certain to all of us but God is the keeper and healer.A stroke is nothing in the sight of God.God!s healing power surpaseth your imagination.

  103. No, he does not rule until the end of the term, VP is not elected like in the US. The moment the prez dies or Chief Justice on recommendation of experts say he is not fit or say he is impeached by parliament, VP takes over but elections are to take place within six months. People what more do expect Rupiah Banda to say?

  104. #121 Thanks Doctor for the information, but which one of the strokes you have mentioned is our presdo sufferring from. We need to know so that we focus our prayers on that one.

  105. 140, i do not agree with the idea of a running mate, we end up like the Malawi case where the VP and President are fighting, a running mate can not be fired. I think we are not ready for running mates until we have strong democracy like the US.

  106. #148 He should tell us the truth nothing but the whole truth! Bcoz what he has told us so far differs from what we are getting from some media circles!

  107. This is a time of unity for all peace loving Zambians. It is a tough time but let us all pray that a righteous leader takes up the mantle.Forget about your political affiliation- we need someone who is capable.Any wrong choices will only lead to disaster.I for do not care what political group he belongs to as log as he can deliver.
Let us also continue to pray for the Mwanawasa family for strength.

  108. Brrr has corectly put it. Why has the VP taken over the responsibility of Govt spokesman? Are we sure LPM is ok? This situation is scary. We ve known mulongoti to be vocal and yet he is quiet. the VP has always been in the background but now he is the front runner.According to a source from France There is a lot of activity at the paris hospital. The last to visit was the Egyptian ambassador in France. He was seen driving off without a statement

  109. Indeed confirmed report:
Saeed Abdel Fattah Essa says President Levy Mwanawasa had a “brain hemorrhage,” which Egyptian doctors stopped when he was taken to his hospital on Sunday. Essa says Wednesday that Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak visited Mwanawasa before his evacuation Tuesday evening. A semi-coma is a mild or partial comatose state.
A French diplomatic source confirmed Mwanawasa was due to arrive overnight and should be admitted to the Percy-Clamart military hospital outside Paris.

  110. Fellow blogger, this is worrying. This is what I’ve learnt about the hospital where our LPM has been taken. See any similarities!

“First reports of Arafat’s treatment by his doctors for what his spokesman said was the “flu” came on October 25, 2004, after he vomited during a meeting. His condition deteriorated in the following days.[95] Following visits by other doctors, including teams from Tunisia, Jordan, and Egypt — and agreement by Israel not to block his return — Arafat was taken on a French government jet to the Percy military hospital in Clamart, a suburb of Paris.” Where he died later after being in a comma.

  111. I am anxiously waiting to see if we can become a better nation after the LPM saga – been sick all along and pretended to be okay! I do not like pretenders.

I am saddened that the vast majority of our citizens are very gullible. They believe in all things said to them by crooks sitting in public office. The LPM saga should now make the NCC sit up and do a better job on the fitness of a guy to be the president of zambia. There should be a look at the physical, mental and intellectual capabilities of each candidate. Sata appears to be senile from yesterday’s Post where he accused some people of bewitching LPM! This clearly shows that the old man is totally irrational and unable to lead a

  112. nation with 21st Century challanges but faced with mediocre leadership as that exhibited by LPM and RB.

We will need to take out all those in the current Civil Service for abusing Zambians by non-delivery of services, blinding policies, dead-end processes, and their planned enslavement of the vast majority of Zambians.

  113. Zambians are very superstitious people, why would the French kill Mwanawasa? For what. We not just accept that he fell sick from a stroke, we all know that he is not very well. Some are blaming the wife. This is nonsense. If he dies, then his time has come.

  114. FACTS ABOUT PERCY MILITARY HOSPITAL IN CLAMART:

it specialises in treating severe burns, and provides a service to victims of Radioactivity. It is a military hospital although it treats civilians as well.
in 2004 Yasser arafat was admitted for close to a month till he passed.Bassel Fleihan the lebanese Minister who was a victim of Bomb attack on prime minister Hariri of Lebanon, was treated at this hospital for 64 dys before he too passed. It is a good hospital so we wish Levy good luck

  115. CNN reports LPM is in a coma, what does the Zambian constitution say about an incapacitated president? Any lawyer out there?

  116. Please, Zedians, let us focus our attention on progressive points instead of talking about death right now. The president and his immediate family need our full support as Zambians no matter what affiliations and background we have.

The President, Mr LP Mwanawas, SC, (Doctor) is in safe hands. The French are doing everything possible within their capabilities and power to get our President back to full conscious and working level.

Lets be positive about his health and reserve the unnecessary comments to later on when such will be needed.

  117. Let us continue to pray for our president. the situation is not looking good. we pray for a miracle from God.

  118. Egyptian doctor: Zambian leader in semi-coma but ‘still alive’

SHARM EL-SHEIK, Egypt (AP) — Head of the Egyptian hospital that treated Zambia’s president after he fell ill during the African Union summit here, says the Zambian leader was in a semi-coma but “still alive” when evacuated to Paris.
Saeed Abdel Fattah Essa says the Zambian president had a “brain hemorrhage” which Egyptian doctors managed to stop. Essa also says that Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak visited the Zambian at the hospital before he was flow to France at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

  119. #165, it is not a matter of being negative or ill-wishing the President here. The fact is that a stroke that sends a person into comatose is not something you will wish or pray away and everything comes back to normal..the fact is the situation is so grave that while we pray for him, chances that he will recover and resume his duties might be 50-50. Therefore, as we pray for our dear President, as well as for all sick people in our ill-equiped hosipitals, lets keep one eye open, size the future and prepare ourselves for it. Just being pragmatic here, this is real life mudala not soap opera..

  120. Father in the name of Jesus i come against that sickness in President .Levy Patrick Mwanawasa.I speak healing and health over his life.I plead the blood of Jesus upon his life and come against any principalities in JESUS His name and declare total healing. AMEN

  121. #163,Cheif Justice becomes president after or within I am not sure, he/she calls for elections. By the way are we getting the complete picture here gentlemen, why isn’t the presidential doctor issuing statements of the exact situation? I think we are not being given the full picture, and why is Mulongoti and Banda’s statements at variance?

  122. plz pipo stop fun comments, the president is in a bad state.this is no time fo yo unpalatable comments, the nation needs yo prayers.there is no good news at all.plz pray fo zambia and its citizens.

  123. Please, much as we sympathise with LPM,let a young and healthy leader be groomed and LPM shud step aside asap!

  124. The Christian..For starters why dont you just pray in your closest instead writting your prayers in the blog. When you pray you speak to God and not to bloggers. LPM just like the millions of Zedians and world over needs our prayers. If you are serious take time off the blog and get on your nees….

  125. To the christian, i agree with #176,i think we are losing track, this is the Lusaka times blog not TBN, Last time i checked God doesnt blog

  126. oops my mistake…. but still christian i think you get the point. no need to type your prayers on LSKTimes

  127. Anyone can say anything….rumours feed on lack of information and as long as we keep on hearing the same lines, “he’s in a stable condition!”..such rumours will spring up. What stable condition ? The bad one or the one worse??….

  128. Why is The Post not covering LPM’s saga on an hourly basis so that we become better informed as events develop during the day?

A leader in coma is no leader at all. We need to get our justice working. We need to get the constitution start working when the guy falls into coma.

    Why are we this docile?

  129. #83 Yaku Tata.Surely my brethern no life is less than that of the other. The revulsion of your heart possibly emanates from the heart that seek equality, the heart concerned about others. It is a good heart my brethren. You have picked Mwanawasa at this moment to express your heart felt feelings. You are fundermentally right when you say that we must seek healing amongst our people for truely we cannot all of us with special needs from various hospital of our country be taken abroad to specialist treatment. To me it seems you do not revolt against Mwanawasa as a person but as a leader or as a symbol of the system which seems not to help the less privelleged like you and me.I really suport you…..

  130. From#184…on this one.But then you will realise that the problem in Zambia has not been created by Mwanawasa but by every one of us.My brethren the problem with us is we shun intellect and philosophy though educated we leave voting to hooligans and illiterates because we are so important in our own eyes.We allow parliament to be filled with half becked parliamentalians to decided our fate.Where do you think we can go? May the soul of our president his exellence levy Mwanawasa rest in peace.

  131. #178 and 176 brothers i think you need Jesus. You need to understand that God uses foolish things of the world to bring people to Christ.

  132. advertising and *********** with Adwords. Anyway I?m adding this RSS to my email and could glance out for much more of your respective exciting content. Make sure you update this once more soon..
