Hyena attack

Share

Two men in Chief Musungwa’s area in Itezhi Tezhi District  are nursing serious injuries at Namwala District Hospital after they were attacked by a hyena today around 04:00 hours.

The two men identified as Casius Shimukuka aged 31 and Given Namakalata aged 34 both from Mahungu Chitabadwa Village were bitten on their legs and hands as they tried to fend off the animal.

Speaking to ZANIS today, the duo said the hyena first attacked Namakalata’s goats but when he attempted to rescue his animals using a stick as a weapon, the hungry hyena pounced on him and bite him several times.

Namakalata explained that after he cried for help Shimukuka came to rescue him, but unfortunately the animal changed its mind and charged at Shimukuka, leaving him unconscious.

It was at this point that other nieghbours gathered enough courage and chased the animal away. The duo called on the Zambia Wildlife Authority [ZAWA] to move to the area to protect people’s lives from wild animals.

  1. I never thought/knew hyenas had enough courage to attack something let alone a human. They must have been really hungry neh..Shame for those men.

  2. #3 thats not rb.Thats a hyna.its just as popular as RB since they are competing with each other over zambians.one is putting suger in zambians and the other is testing.

  3. it is very sad for those two men who were almost eaten by the hyena,i just wish them a quick recovery and i call upon the zambia wild life to seriously look into the matter cos more lives might be lost.

  4. How yuh fi chase wey wild animal widda stick? Madness! Only time de hyenas dem scared is when dem sight fire or dem hear de sound of a gun. Dat’s why Dread always bun de fire red and nuh left me M16 when me deh inna bush.

  5. Very sad and wish the victims a speedy and complete recovery.
However this is what happens when we start encroaching on wild life.
we have plenty of land so why settle near wildlife.
    only one feasible reason. Poaching.
We need to heve laws that restrict people settling near Game management areas. No excuses.
Otherwise people have themselves to blame and not call on Zawa to eliminate animals who are only doing what they naturally do.

  6. hey Bun Dem dread
you dont need no gun or fire maan.
your dreads would scare da livin daylights out of any animal.

  7. it’s not all times that we want to hear jokes, what happened to the two men is sad and serious please people reserve foolish comments to yourselves. I wish the two quick recovery.

  8. This aint funny people. If you want to talk about RB & Sata, look 4 their stories.

    I wish the victims well.

  9. Why is Lusaka Times always bring bad stories from southern province. Is the HQ in southern though its called Lusaka times.Sad to hear about such things happening to the villagers

  10. I think they were trying to eat the hyena when it turned on them. You’ve got to see it from the hyena’s point of view as well. Poor animal was trying to save its own life.

  11. number 17, which grow up my dear…. that was just a question.
and the answer is yes… that looks like RB i think its him

  12. The fact of the matter is that a hyena is a WILD animal ! It gets it’s food out in the wild and often tries to emulate other stronger animals like Lions – or eat the scraps they leave behind. So the idea of going after one brandishing only a stick when it’s just about to sink it’s teeth into some juicy goat would have pissed it off beyond measure ! The moral of the story: do not go after wild animals brandishing a stick

  13. where are the wild life authoruties, the named animal above needs to be caged or something but not anything close to killing it.
    So mi i say!!!

  14. It is easier to chase a hungry hyena with a stick than to try and panel beat RB’s image. The former is instinctive bravery and the two young men have my deepest sympathy and praise for protecting their animals and their lives. The latter is foolishness of biblical proportions arising from greed and I have only contempt for RB who like the hyena is stealing our money and property to panel beat his irretrievable image. Come 30th October, Zambians should use anything they can reach for to chase the thieving hyena called RB.

  15. LOL #20 Thats a good one LOL

Never underestimate what a hungry creature would do. Some pipo can even kill others for food. I remember reading a story of a man who killed his friend over a piece of chicken in Chilanga. So if a human could do that, what more an unreasoning hyena? ZAWA please get to the rescue of those pipo before some life is lost.

  16. wild animals can do anything. but its very rare for a lone hyena to attack lager prey in this case 2 adults. the animal must have been provoked, it must have been trying to defend it self. am sure it must have just bitten those 2 poor tongas. they Vote for for PF and MCS so that they dont have wake early to look for wild fruits.

  17. Just another case of people settling near game areas and bringing livestock with them . Surely is it surprising that the predators are pouncing. Next it will be lion attacks.

  18. zambia wild life offiers are not seriously with their work and dont care about the lives of the people just like MMD…please wake up before we lose more lives…get well soon guys…

  19. 25 Kalulu and 16 Anonymous, mine was an open question. You are both !d!ots you rotten b!tches from the jungle. Rabbit Baboon RB is your father ka Kalulu and you were born through his buttocks. Anonymous you were born from that hyena’s pen!s. And your mother is a rapist. She fed you its testicles through out your childhood, that’s why your brain allows you to write those comments from the jungle. Kalulu and Anonymous you are children conceived through incest you rats. Why are you so quick to protect RB Toadface Banda to the extent of insulting me? He’s leaving office and your fermenting sacks of impotent balls will soon return to Zambia you stoop!d sw!nes from an ostrich farm.
    #21 you’re rite

  20. I’m not there. I’m in ZED but these guys are using wrong envirnmental variables so some flags are wrong. They should use the IP instead. Which town you in?

  21. #37 I think you are seriously Mad you needmedical attention as soon as possible please go before you start undressing yourself

  22. I am amased that there are so many Zambians with knowledge to browse the net but still very shallow minded as to impersonate a wild animal. This is foolish. Grow up!!! No wonder most chaps can not get decent jobs.

  23. # 18, believe it or not. Hynenas are suppose to be the ‘king of the jungle’ not lions because they have got the strongest jaws. Lets sympathize with the people hurt

  24. Number (7) and number (23) The first man could have been on the scene and the only available weapon was a stick. The second man could have just come out to see why his friend was screaming. Even teeth can be a weapon against an impending attack. Ever heard of clinging on to dear life? A man once sank his teeth in the flesh of a lion. The lion fled and the man survived. Don’t toy with life folks. Ask Katwishi no(9) who wrote that no(7)’s dreadlocks could scare a hyena (lol)

  25. A hungry hyena attacking a human being and leaving him unconscious? I can’t believe it, really. This can only happen in Zambia and not anywhere else in the world. If it were a lion, yes of course, I would agree. Be careful we’ll soon have jackals attacking human beings.
