NW Province Chief and subjects drinking untreated water

Share

Villagers and public workers in Senior Chief Ndungu’s area in Zambezi West are drinking untreated water because the area has no piped water.

Senior Chief Ndungu complained to Northwestern Province Permanent Secretary Jeston Mulando when he visited his palace recently that there was no piped water because the water pump which was donated by the former area Member of Parliament David Saviye was lying idle.

The traditional ruler said it was very unhealthy but people have no choice to source their drinking contaminated water from dambos.

Senior Chief Ndungu mentioned that in 1991 the former Member of Parliament Mr. Saviye had donated a water pump and a tank which were supposed to be installed in Mize but after he lost election to the opposition no efforts were made to have piped water in the area.

He explaianed that the water tank was also lying idle in the Boma near the Police station while the water pump and pipes were gathering rust at his palace.

Senior Chief Ndungu lamented that apart from the lack of piped water there were no boreholes in his chiefdom.

Meanwhile Senior Chief Ndungu has appealed to government to construct a bridge on the Zambezi River to connect to the west bank.

The traditional ruler said the lack of the bridge on the Zambezi River has paralyzed development on the west bank which depends on Zambezi pontoon as communication links with the rest of the country.

Senior Chief Ndungu pointed out that the pontoon charges by Engineering Services Company (ESCO) has discouraged transporters from reaching the west bank and that had hindered development on the west bank.

The pontoon charges are K40,000 for a small vehicle per single crossing which has made it hard for investors to pay attention to the area that was blessed with good soil for Rice production.

Meanwhile Northwestern province Permanent Secretary Jeston Mulando said construction of bridge on the Zambezi river can not done now but later when funds will be available adding that the matter of boreholes would be looked into soon.

  1. When did they stop drinking piped water?

Reporters confuse me. The title should read – Villagers in blah blah need piped and treated water blah blah blah. Or something near that.

Boreholes usually have untreated water too.

Hope RB will sort this one soon. I can’t wait for some action!!

  2. fyabo bakamushi, they voted RB. they can continue drink wee wee and poo poo contaminated water. they rejected the change we could believe in.

  3. Expect more trash like that from the RB Toadface administration. You voted them in and you deserve it. Maybe they’ll visit your constituency 3 years from now, shortly before the new election. For now you can just drink your own p!ss.
And you Jeston Mulando, how come now the funds for the bridge are not availible? A little more than 5 days ago you politicians were promising those myopic villagers instant development.
#1. Zebige you’re an as$hole. You !d!ots make this blog boring. Imbecile.

  4. its only day one and u already complaining! thats what u get 4 listening to propaganda.. mulechimonalelo.. viva pabwatooooo viva sata

  5. atleast they are drinking contaminated water..if it was Satana they wouldnt have water.#8 dont insult, you make this blog stink thats the problem with PF-KAPONYAS.

  6. Mwaiche #8 and friends, these people have had NO piped water.

It has nothing to do with RBB. He became Presido on Saturday for heaven’s sake.

If I remember correctly, Sata is the one on record to promise 90 development.

    We are real dude.

  7. # 11. Deee – vote RB,,, we toking of mmd as aparty, its does not matter wheather he came into power on saturday, hes on record of saying hes come to finish what levy started

  8. #14 – Kasempa.

Thank you for clarification, and the answer it carries. One can’t finish what has already been finished!

  9. So please say MMD, when you mean MMD and say RB when you mean RB. The 2 are not synonyms…..Remember RB joined MMD recently. So be factual otherwise you will make us all lose your point, if any….

  10. You guys these people from north western province deserve the water they are drinking because the produce magic ballot boxes that makes the MMD win. so let MMD provide them with drinking.

  11. the mutanda-chavuma road will never be finished. the tarring project has been terminated at kasempa. there will never be a bridge at watopa pontoon. mwinilunga pineapple plant will only remain in their heads. teta will continue driving the most expensive cars and boast about. people will continue drinking wee wee and poo poo contaminated water. lwenu bane…

  12. Let them continue drinking dirty water, they deserve it. That is one reason they should have voted for another person. People in rural areas separate politics from their daily needs and that is wrong mentality. I am still waiting for fertlisers to be bought at K50 000 because in shops you can get it at around K250 000.

  13. Ma-rubbish, don’t complain and just drink that same water! And by the way you will drink hat water for the next three years I hope, useless chaps!!!Viva PF.

  14. This title is wrong.First of all ,how do you say chiefs and villagers, why not just say “people are drinking untreated water”

  15. 44yrs after independence? These people still have no water,no electricity and they are part of the rigging?More over they voted for daddy madya mweka(MMD)?FORGET ABOUT THEM!MWANYA!!!VIVA PA BWATOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

  16. These villagers should have known better. They should drink lutuku/kachusu for water. They should have used the election as a leverage for their needs. Too Late.

  17. You supporters of RB Toadface, #10 Gunners and company, don’t rush to call MMD haters kaponya. This government has been failing the people since its inception. You support RB blindly without a cause leading one another into pits. It’s evident in a case such as this one that government has failed the people, you still try to defend them. You can’t just say RB has nothing to do with it.

  18. Iwe chief and your people STOP complaining this is what you have always wanted, thus MMD you like. moreover you and your people dont even pay tax, so continue drinking rubbish water and expect more trash coz thats whant you have always wanted.

  19. And who said all “untreated water” isn’t safe for drinking?Do you just treat anyhow even when there’s no ailment????????There’re natural springs in zambia and the world over where one can get the purest form of water. The best place that ever existed on earth was the garden of Eden and yet there wasn’t a single hospital there, not even a clinic!Did they need ‘better health facilities’ there?

  20. To say the truth, rural peole are really used by this politicians. It is easy for politicians to lie to ruralites than urbanites. See what has been happening now. The MMD has been promising these people development and service delivery. This is 2008 and nothing has been done. What is surprising is the ruralites continue voting for MMD. Shame.

  21. thats begining of problems,my tribesmate.for choosing mmd,i wont send money for fertiliser,am getting all my cows from mwinilunga bringing them over to lsk.mudi muku kala akwetu

  22. PEOPLE OF NORTH WESTERN PROVINCE DESERVE THIS UNTREATED WATER BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT THEY ALWAYS VOTE FOR.
THEY SHOULD NOT EVEN COMPLAIN BECAUSE THEY GET THIS DESERVICE FROM THEIR FAVOURITE GOVERNMENT.

  23. WATCH YOUR MOUTH,ENOUGH ON NW PROVINCE.THEY DESERVE THE BEST,THIS SHOULD BE THE RICHEST PROVINCE IN THE COUNTRY.THEY CAN VOTE FOR WHO-EVER THEY PLS.IF THE GOVERMENT DONT DO IT,I’LL SEND FLORIDA ENGINEERES TO GO FIX THIS PROBLEM.

  24. Let us mind the way we comment as it is not only this province or area were people are drinking untreated water. If They were right to vote for MMD because chavuma had no power not untill three or four years ago, also ZNBC TV came to Solwezi sometime in 2004 and even some other developmental projects came during the MMD period. So who is better the one who is insulting you or the one who has given you a piece of bread. If the opposition wants the vote of the rural people they should be polite in their language. If anything the person they voted for has gone through so who is better in terms of peace of mind. Takanyeni mulefwa kuli PB meanwhile life will go on in the the same rural areas.

  25. No. 30 mind your language. This is the same mouth disease with your PF president and it is like most of you pf cadles have the same problem. Remember that the more bad language you use on them the more lesser votes you shall receive there if anything you wont even deserve a single vote there. HH and his cadres are polite hence the reason he had more votes. The problem with pf democracy is that whoever did not vote for you is considered dull the reason you will lose alot of voters to put you in power.Sorry improve on your wisdom.

  26. Congrats Chief for voicing your concern. Its now your turn to summon politician to your palace and grill them on why they are not fulfilling their promises. You and 98% of other Zambians drink unsafe water. Even the water from piped companies like Kafubu is contaminated. In 2006 and 2007 Mufulira, Chingola and Ndola suffered a water polluted crisis. Water companies in Zed have outdated purification methods and old corroded pipes that are used to supply water.

  27. #Can someone help find the following PF cadre individuals and tell them to contact me on [email protected]:

[In a parallell topic on LT last week “We are winning despite biased media coverage, HH”, there were PF cadres:]

    10. mumbulu
    6. chikondi
    5. sylvia masebo
    4. Muwala
some character “Father Christmas” who promised sweets but has since disappeared.
I may just have to send condolences to their families too in case 1 or so had a fatal heartattack.

  28. Ba # 48 you are very funny. I am alive and am sure those other “Cadres” ahahahahahaha me a PF Cadre hmmmmm are alive too. PF gave MMD a good run and i think its good for democracy, God is the only one who truly knows if the elections where free and fair. I only hope RB will honour his word.

Water problems in North-western Province, well i wish them the best but the truth is even in 2011 they will have the same problem coz they are too stuborn.

  29. Dear LT please urgently communicate to Chief Ndungu to hold a meeting with his subjects and put a decree in place that every villager in his area should boil their drinking water. This will prevent cholera, dysentry and jiggers what the Kaondes call ‘tutombela’.(lol)

  30. #48 I do not know what makes you think I am a PF supporter! In fact my prefered candidate was Miyanda, I however, agree with PF when I feel they have a valid point.

  31. #52 I understand that drinking boiled water may prevent cholera and dysentry, but jiggers? Would be interested to learn how that works. #48. Would like to hear from you why you thought HH would win the last elections, the man did not have a prayer of chance with the two giants wrestlng it out, especially in his “non-traditional” areas. I knew Miyanda would not win I only stuck to him to boost his morale!!!!!! The man says he will try again, hope there will be more others who will support him in 2011(!).

  32. please any luvale ,kaonde and kaluchazi write in any of the mentioned tribes to explain the preventive measures to avoid out break of cholera.

  33. I am not suprised at this even when these kamushi sit in the midst of all the problems they opted to go for MMD.Dont complain shut up and shame on you – MULENWAFYE na yamutoilet

  34. Well, Muwala, first of all byepi, I am no Kaonde though, please dont get me wrong. You might not be one too, at least you are a Zambian!Sounds like you know more than me. Well not all the water ends up being drunk, dearie. Some of it is used for bathing and some of it collects somewhere and the lil’ creatures breed in it and multiply. Unhygienic conditions favour jiggers – you know what I am saying…Tell me something – I may have a misconception.

  35. WHEN WE TALK ABOUT VILLAGERS WE SHOULD NOT INCLUDE THE BEMBAS AND TONGAS WHO PROGRESSIVELY VOTED FOR CHANGEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee SATA OR HH
