The Kitwe District Land Alliance has appealed to President Rupiah Banda to withdraw the draft land policy as it does not support transparency.
Kitwe District Land Alliance chairperson, Bwalya Mpange, said the current Land Act of 1995 was not only pro-poor but also non-transparent and was not in tune with the spirit of poverty alleviation.
Officially opening a two-day training workshop for councilors on Transparency Land Administration at Mindolo Ecumenical Foundation today Mr Mpange welcomed the government’s move to overhaul this law as evidenced by the 2006 land draft policy.
He explained that the draft land policy in its current stature does not support transparency and lacks support to the poor people in terms of equitable access and ownership of land.
Mr Mpenga also expressed worry that there had been incidences where some civic leaders were being caught up in illegal plot allocation in Kitwe.
He reminded the councilors that since they had been identified as important partners in land administration in the district, there was need for them to be knowledgeable in land administration and be more transparent on allocation of plots.

The should also revise the perion which tittle take to be issued. there is no way it can take 3 yrs to issue tittle deeds, the documents get lost from time to time, many times you will discover the land was sold and tittle issued to someone else especialy if someone in the top eyes it
for those of us in the so called diaspora, let us prevail on RB to ignore shikapwasha’s unreasonable policy that all those holding old passports should change them before april. first and foremost, it takes long for the passport office in lusaka to process passports for people outside and secondly, it is very expensive to pay for “fidindo” at the home offices of the countries we are in, britain especially. the policy should be that those applying for new passports and those replacing them on expiry or being full, should be subjected to the new conditions. £1,000 teinono na credit crunch iyi iliko!
This a serious mistake zambian have and thats why they get locked up in situations which they fail to come out. No man should be be allowed to make dicission the the whole nation. Not even the corrupt RB
its even so shameful that at 44 years of independnce zambia has no land policy.
Please think of next generation! ”Go and multiply”.
Let guard jealously our land. This not political but economical and religious.
“When asked about people attributing apathy to lack of delivery of promises by politicians, Hakainde said that was why Zambia needed change…He also said governments of national unity were destructive to Africa and Zambia did not need that.”
