Global economic crisis shows effects on families

Share

Effects of the global economic crisis have already started showing a negative impact on growing economies, such as Zambia, with only  a few people managing to spend for Christmas.

According to a survey carried out this morning by ZANIS, people said it is hard to do shopping because there are no funds to meet the needs of many families.

Most people expressed concern about lack of funds to do shopping because  prices have been hiked so much, making it difficult for many people to buy gifts for their beloved ones.

Alfonsaias Haamanjanti said people should not over-spend unnecessarily but consider critical things such as school fees and uniforms for children when schools reopen.

Mr Haamanjati said it is important to budget for the things that one needs by writing a list and follow it.

He pointed out that the global financial crisis may not be felt now, saying there is need to save money and shop only when it is necessary.

He said the global financial crisis may be felt so much next year, adding that most Zambians should consider saving their money and use it when there is real need.

Mr. Haamanjanti advised most Zambians to avoid unnecessary sales and advertisements which show that commodities are cheap yet they are spending more money on these commodities.

He said countries like America and most European countries have cut down their demand, adding that the government of Zambia does not have much income.

And a business lady, Mwape Mulundika, pointed out that it is important to keep a budget and avoid luxuries while Mrs. Genala Kamalata has called on government to consider reducing the price of  staple foods and other essential foods.

Mrs. Kamalata said Christmas will soon be over, hence the need to avoid spending and to focus on more things of benefit.

Mrs. Roister Kafunda, however said the global financial crisis has led to high prices, adding that mealie meal  is now costing so much, making it very difficult for huge families to survive because they use more than one bag of mealie meal per month.

She said long ago people would survive on their salaries, but now a lot of people have become sophisticated in order to make ends meet under these difficult circumstances, adding that more people have compromised their jobs because they want to survive, resulting in corruption and crookedness which have eroded the system.

  1. RB IS ONE LUCK GUY.
HE CAN AFFORD A CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY AND NOT JUST HIMSELF BUT FOR THE WHOLE OF HIS CLAN AND WITHOUT BLOWING A HOLE IN HIS POCKET. YOU COULD SEE THE EXCITEMENT OF THE GRAND CHILDREN WHEN BOARDING THE PLANE TO MFUWE.

  2. Who paid for those grown up RB sons with their wives! so those married guys are still dependant on their father! shame on RB’s sons. Does anyone know how they are accomodated at Mfuwe…three couples at Tax payers cost….

  3. 5
That is like getting maana in this day and age. 50 days on the job and the next moment you are off to some holiday with your entire clan. RB is promoting indispline in his offsprings, as they will grow up thinking having things for free is normal. Even from a moral point of view RB is not helping those little kids as they will think grand fathers marrying girls the age of their mothers is fashionable. What a disaster to the nation at large. Its a bunch of confused household/s

  4. “He said the global financial crisis may be felt so much next year, adding that most Zambians should consider saving their money and use it when there is real need”.

What an i d i o t! How can people save when there is nothig to save?

  6. Fellow Zambians I am hurt by the state of affairs affecting our citizens. Today is Christmas day however our people can’t afford
even a slice of bread! What joy can our people celebrate on this day?
Our president is on holiday, resting and enjoying himself with his
family members while the country sinks down in hunger and hoplessness, no light but darkness…sleeplessness dawns their bedrooms…I do not know how fellow citiens please help me to understand what this may be. What is God telling us in all these circumstances…?

  7. Having followed the PF vision of more money in the pocket with reduced taxes. I have come to realise that this would have been a big economic blunder a country would have had as a strategy for stabilising the economy. The truth of the matter is that until the US economy is stabilised then only our economy will also recovery. If the american auto industry is no bailed out then the copper prices with still remain low and export earnings will remain low and a lot of job cuts. PF does not provide any economic solutions other than politicking. at the rate we are going copperbelt will be heat hard for the low copper prices. Bwana Sata educate your Cadres to brace themselves for hard times

  8. This is happening everywhere..Zambia is no exception….

    People just learn to go with the flow… **==**==**==8-}8-}8-}8-}8-}8-}8-}8-}

  9. Nyamaz also said that there were job losses in the mines and the government did not know what to do although they were looking for a solution. Now, is he looking for a solution in Mfuwe? Shemuneni bane, shame!

  10. #17 we can export mbeba that’s what he’s looking into – people here in the west also have no money so are looking for a cheap dish

  11. Mulongoti is a chief boot licker, even when he is a ministry unrelated to the president’s office he continues defending wrong things.

  12. OK PA ZED PALIBA AMASOBELA SANA LETS JUST PRAY THAT THINGS COUNLD CHANGE IN TIME COZ THE WAY I SEE THINGS ARE GOING MWANDINI AWE TWASEBANASANA.

ANYWAY HAPPY XMAS AND GOOD NEW YEAR(2009 :d:((:((:((:”>:”>:”>:”>

  13. AS THE JAHOVA’S WITNESS SAID EVERYTHING WHICH ARE HAPPENING NOW IT WRITTEN IN THE BIBLE TO THEM ITS A NOMAL THING WE ARE AT THE END OF THE WORLD LET US CHANGE OUR WRONG DOING. :((:((:((8-|8-|8-|8-|8-|:((:((:((:((:((:d:d:d

  14. i certainly sympathise with suffering masses. However we fail to recognize the laziness in a typical zambian. just waiting for handouts instead of doing a bit of farming or other enterprising chores. shame on us

  15. 24. jumbo, you ‘laziness in a typical zambian’ was what president HH said will be a thing he will want to tackle immediately he became President if it happened, but unprincipled characters said HH is insulting Zambians.

Many of us Zambians are surely ‘just waiting for handouts’ a thing which cause them to vote for failures like Sata who flashes out money to a dancer during campaigns and probably buys chibuku for his PF kaponya cadres.

    Very sad scenario.

  16. Yes just waiting for handouts and KK made most Zedians lazy because he was giving everything free . Mostly people who enjoyed free everything were foreigners.

  17. GRZ when are you going to say THANK YOU to president HH who wrote President RB Banda containing ways of improving our limping economy. It is sad to note that the Kwacha currency rate to the US Dollar has now surpassed or is about to where former President Chiluba left it with us in 2011.

Let us learn to say thank you any help that comes our way. After all, the MMD GRZ is the one that requested for help from the opposition with solutions to the Global/National Financial Crises that we are facing as Zambians and Zambia.

  18. Iwe #28 who told you that HH was waiting for thanx from RB? Thats a wrong way to go about things never force someone to say thankyou or it will not be genuine. I have come to know that you are a christian infact an adventist like me and so you should know that christ was not telling anyone to thank him whenever he did something for them but those that went back to say thankyou like the leaper from samaria they got blessings. So if the man does not want to be greatful, leave him alone God will deal with him.

  19. “The Opposition Patriotic Front has written to the Speaker of the National Assembly Amusaa Mwanamwambwa, requesting him to declare the parliamentary seats of the 16 defiant Members of Parliament vacant.
The PF argues that the expelled MPs on December 14th 2007 commenced legal proceedings in the Lusaka High Court against the party.
According to the letter sent to Mr. Mwanamwambwa and signed by PF deputy General Secretary, Chileshe Mulenga and obtained by Muvi TV today, the defiant MPs in December 2007 withdrew their membership from the party by stopping their monthly contributions.”

  20. Above continued.
“Dr. Mulenga says following the MPs’ action the PF Central Committee resolved to accept their decision not to continue to be PF members.
He noted that the MPs in question continued to perform their functions under the protection from the court pending the determination of the matter.
Dr. Mulenga however says the high court on Monday 22nd December this year handed down a ruling in which it discharged the interim order of injunction.”
Since this is a good move by PF, please the UPND write those expelled 16 MPs letter to join the U-Team as soon as possible so that you can campaign with them in the areas they have been MPs.Vote for a sensible group of trustworthy leaders.

  22. 29. kalampa #1, you asked, “Iwe #28 who told you that HH was waiting for thanx from RB?”

Where did I write that president “HH was waiting for thanx from RB”.

Do you need eye googoes to read properly? Or do you want me to re-write my posting over the thanks message in broken Bemba language since you seem as if you failed to understand simple English language!

For your INFORMATION, it is a general practice to say THANK YOU to whoever gives you something so that that someone can say YOU ARE or AINT WELCOME next time, in case your family did not teach you such good manners.

  23. #33 continued.
The Holy Bible records in “1 Thessalonians 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you” and it is in this good spirit that I am asking the MMD GRZ to appreciate help. You wrote “I have come to know that you are a christian infact an adventist like me and so you should know that christ was not telling anyone to thank him whenever he did something for them but those that went back to say thankyou like the leaper from samaria they got blessings.” In light of the verse I have given above, are you implying that Jesus Christ doesnt want us to say THANKS.

  24. Mind you, 29. kalampa #1, “1 Timothy 4:16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.”

And lastly, “2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.”

I hope these scriptural words are enough to help you understand my intention to President RB Banda’s MMD GRZ.

If you aint satisfied call on me again!

  25. Forget global crisis, arrest chiluba and chungu for sleeping in silk pyjamas at public expense!!Iwonder how many women got matching panties?? :((:((:((

  26. #10,12 and 14 all your comments are very relevant to the main story. I enjoyed them. It is sad that the quality of this blogg is slowly being reduced to discussing personal issues and settling political vendetta’s and unresearched religious quotations.

I think the Govt is doing as good as job as it can given the circumstances that we are in. This problem is global. Is any clever person on this thought Zambia was immune think again!!

  27. Zambia is not a growing economy but rather a developing economy. The term growing economy is the same as emerging economy, these are middle income countries like south africa, turkey, brazil, china, india

  28. Breaking News: Yesterday,I received intelligence reports on my Central Command Post which indicated that The Sata’s Imagebuliders POST’s Fred M’membe is probably bitter about president Hakainde Hichilema because the man has about 17 Billion Zambian Kwacha of which 10 Billion is a credit from credits which effectively reduces his money to 7 Billion. This might be the reason of the Kalijo (MC Wabwino) where the POST indicated probably by implying that UPND or HH can overvalue their property to values like 38.8 Billion Zambian Kwacha.I was very impressed with this data which has cleared my mind on how seems jealous work. Be prepared to see that HH’s money is in ZK100’s Bil with his new invest..

  29. The brother, in this light Fred M’membe seems to have enough money for his family – or business(es) – and so I am failing to understand where the kalijo is coming from. The most likely reason is thus tribalism!

    =d>.

  30. Gentleman and ladies, fellow country men and women, this is our time and this is our moment. Support the only true leadership for 2011 and that is only the U-Team with a manifesto that late Mwanawasa and alive Magande tried to use in bringing Zambia to some sane level as an economy and Nation.

Since this is our time and moment as Zambians, let us make sure we help in getting the young and energetic president Hakainde Hichilema to become President of our great Nation, Zambia.

    I would have loved to stand as Zambian presidential candidate in 2011, but I have commitments right now. I am considering doing so in 2016. I have already secured some support from non-Zambians of all forms. =;

  31. #39.Maestro Hatombwe=#35.Maestro Hhehhehhehhe???

For once, can’t you stick to the topic & comment on the serious issues rather than display things which have already been read by other bloggers? THANK YOU is not a thing to force people to do. Moreover, that is advice which can even be reject and thrown out as trash even before reading it.

No offense on this issue, but you are populating the blog with alot of things that are not related to this topic. As a physicist, you must know the word,”ENTROPY”, so minimize on this. You are a different SDA, and not like the rest of us.

  32. Mulongoti yesterday said we cannot understand the complexity of this economic crisis because we simple grade fours(Post 25 Dec). What do you think of this.

  33. Ho Ho Ho!

Hope you all had a good christmas.

Sony Ericsson Phiri, Baby C, Rashid, Anonymous-UK and all the regulars, Father Christmas is back.

    Thank you for your messages.

#46 Then Zambia should be the richest being led by an economist! But, it is not easy.

    Ho Ho Ho!

  34. Lets put facts on the table. These guys in government will always spend like whoa. They don’t feel the effects because they get so much. That established, it would also suffice to say that no matter how much noise we make, they will listen less. Nothing wrong with complaining and criticizing them but we have to look at our immediate futures, that is tomorrow and the other day. In the very unlikely event that government listens to us, they will do so after a very long time and we cant wait for them to sort our immediate problems. So what do we do. I need practical examples for the short term not things like start farming, that’s long term. So here we go, economists, advise us.

  35. 43.Geologist, Canada; you wrote “As a physicist, you must know the word,”ENTROPY”, so minimize on this. You are a different SDA, and not like the rest of us.”
Indeed we taught you ‘P191: Introductory Physics and P231: Properties of matter and Thermal Physics’ since you are a Geologist from UNZA – unless I am mistaken and so you know very well that I understand ENTROPY.
On the SDA issue, while I appreciate that you may be one of us like you wrote who said all SDAs have the same nature and way of dealing with things. In case you are new to the church, read about the characters of Isreal’s/Jacob’s children in Genesis 49. Remember that even the 144 000 are from these tribes who are different.

  36. #50 continued.
As far as I am concerned, an SDA is one who has the following attributes:
Revelation 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the REMNANT of her seed, which KEEP the COMMANDMENTS of God, and HAVE the TESTIMONY OF Jesus Christ.
Revekation 14:12 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here [are] they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
Revelation 19:10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See [thou do it] not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

So baba, show how different I am!

  37. 43.Geologist, Canada; I will be waiting. Please, do not be a coward to respond to my #51 plea for you might just help me to something else I do not know about being SDA.

    >:/

  38. #42 your contributions are off topic,by the way do you know what hatombwe trnslate in Kasama?.thats what you should go and do best.UTOM????????

  39. 53. Bolingo well I appreciate your concern, I also take pride in respect, love and honour other people like Chewe who gave me the name Maestro Hatombwe.

‘Tombwe’ in my language Tonga refers to the stick or what is in it that people smoke as in cigarette as consumption for satisfication or whatever other reasons. So, if this differs from “what hatombwe trnslate in Kasama” means in Kasama, I will be glad to know it.

With the above, I inform you that I clearly understand the name given to me by Chewe, but I have to help tribalists to calm down also and learn good manners. Remember even Jesus Christ was called names, but he never resisted such. Have a blessed day and keep well.

  40. 53. Bolingo and others, I hope that is enough.

For now, I am off on a Sabbath recess until it ends on Saturday evening as espoused and instructed in the Holy Scriptures of our God.
