Govt challenges critics on presidential campaign promises

Share

Government has challenged the allegations of unfulfilled election campaign promises by the Republican President, Rupiah Banda as false.

Chief Government spokesperson, Lt Gen Ronnie Shikapwasha, said  it is unfair and a mere campaign of lies against the government for any one to judge president Banda and his government as having failed to fulfill.

Gen Shikapwasha said the government should be commended for the measures it is taking to mitigate the impact of the global financial crisis.

Gen Shikapwasha said President Banda  promised to ensure that no one would die of hunger and to this he effect has taken firm measures to import the shortfall of the commodity.

He said it is important that all Zambians take particular interest in knowing the availability and also the pricing of the staple food, fuel and stability of the mines and other industries in  the country.

Gen Shikapwahsa, who is also Information and Broadcasting Services Minsiter, noted that other millers should emulate what Chimanga Changa milling did to reduce mealie-meal prices, adding that government is monitoring.

He noted  that the world economic crisis was unexpected as six months ago the global economies were generally stable.

He also said the negative developments have moved so fast that few nations have been able to find solutions, but president Banda’s administration, however,  has moved in with speed and resolved to ensure that the impact is down to minimum.

Gen Shikapwasha said the government is in touch with the mining companies on how best to deal with the impact of the financial crisis on their operations and incomes without exacerbating the job situation.

He further said that government is on course in actions that will lead to economic stabilization, food security and the provision of social services.

  1. Our ministers, what do they take people for? why not just keep quite if they have nothing to say. Problem with propaganda is that it eventually even those who started it.

  2. This is good and is expected and the reduction is timely, that is why we voted for him because he is better than Sata who can chase the investors. We will vote for you in 2011 again.

  3. 7 WISEMAN
THE REDUCTION IS DUE TO REDUCED PRICE OF CRUDE OIL ON THE INTERNATIONAL MARKET. STOP DREAMING AND BEING CHILDISH IN YOU BLOG. MINES ARE CLOSING, IS IT BECAUSE OF SATA OR THE WORLD ECONOMIC DOWN TURN. WAKE UP MY FRIEND.

  4. No 8 Umwina Kalale; You say wiseman is being childish. A wiseman once told me only a child goes arround calling others childish. The reductions in mealie meal prices are affected by the knowledge that government is determined to flood the market with maize and therefore millers hoarding the product are likely to lose out. Wake up to that.

I usually do not answer to rubbish claims. But your is just too rubbish to let stand. Have you gone out and checked the mealie meal prices and discovered that they are really down? Chimanga Changa is out for some political favours just as National Milling did when RB was campaigning.
You need to open your eyes as to how all of a sudden Peter Cottan is always in the company or near RB. The govt is toying around with the illeterate masses like you and RB and MMD are enjoying the circus. Worst off maize from outside will be expensive and not cheap as your myopic mind wants it to be.

  6. 9
Don’t get cheated easily. All imported stuff, maize included can not be cheaper that what is produced locally. If the govt supplies cheap mealie meal, well they will be susbsidising the cost of maize. Unfortunately subsidies are not the answer like in this case where you subsidise consumption and not production. If anything such subsidies do not last and when thay do the damage is worst off. We need cheap fertilizer produced at NCZ and not imported fertilizer. MMD is but one useless party and out of steam just as UNIP ran out of steam. Go look for the truth and not lies my dear as the truth shall set you free.

  7. No. 10 and 11. What Zambians are asking for is relief from the high prices they are facing right now. There are short, medium and long term solutions that need to be applied. Amongst short term solutions maybe mealie meal subsidies. Medium term may include fertiliser support and subsidy. Long term may include better marketting and credit facilities for workers. No. 10 should also learn that amongst the remedies bad language and intemperence does not feature as a solution. Anger management may be a short and medium term solution for my other alterego Umwina Kalale.

  8. where are the 4000 jos humpty Dupty promised zambians during campaigns? That is that we are waiting for and not the massive job cuts we are hearing of. **==**==**===:)=:)<):)<):):@):@):o):o):o)

  9. No. 13 gc. Obama has promised five million new jobs but anyone who is fair and serious will know that two months into his Presidency those jobs will not be there and instead the jobless figures will probably still rise in the first qaurter of 2009. With your refference to “Humpty Dumpty” it is clear that RB has created at least one new job- that of comedian unless that was already your day job.

  10. 14 ALTEREGO
YOU CAN NOT BUT REPLY TO EVERY STATEMENT ON THE BLOG. THERE IS SOMETHING MISSING IN YOUR BRAIN OR YOUR BRAIN IS NOT THERE. WE ARE NOT PUTTING WORDS INTO RB’S MOUTH BUT JUST QOUTING HIS USELESS BRAIN VOMITTINGS.
WHO GOES ON A HOLIDAY LIKE RB HAS GONE TO AND YOU EXPECT HIM TO WORK OR REFLECT ON ANYTHING. HE HAS NOT GONE FOR A WORKING HOLIDAY OR REFLECTIVE HOLIDAY WHICH ARE TOO DIFFERENT WITH THE HOLIDAY NYAMA SOYA IS ON. THE GUY HAS GONE TO DOZE FROM MORNING TO EVENING UNTIL 10 SOLID DAYS, WHEN MINERS AND OTHER ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES ARE LOSING LIVELIHOOD MEANS MY FOOT. WAKE UP ALTEREGO

  11. PF has nothing to offer to stabilize the economy of Zambia. When America catches an economic flu every country catches it. Let not PF blind you that RB has failed. The financial crisis or world economic melt down is an external factor beyond our control. RB and his learned team in the govt are doing that is good to serve this country in this harsh economic environment. Whilst doing that is good for Zambia, PF is busy urinating on the same by expelling their MPs to have bye elections which will drain the treasury.Lets respect Gods will and that will being that RB was anointed by God to rule. Sata is not anointed by God yet to rule may be in 2016.

  12. SHIKAPWASHA SHOULD LET WE THE PEOPLE BE THE JUDGE OF HIS GOVERNMENT’S PERFORMANCE. WE ARE NOT IMPRESSED SO PULL UP YOUR SOCKS; ALL OF YOU INSTEAD OF ASKING US TO PRAISE YOU FOR NOTHING. WHEN PEOPLE SAY YOU ARE FAILING IT IS BECAUSE OF WHAT THEY HAVE SEEN IN YOU AND YOUR PERFORMANCE SO FAR. WE CANNOT WAIT FOREVER BEFORE JUDGING YOU. WE’VE BEEN MONITORING YOU FROM DAY ONE.

  13. ‘Government has challenged the allegations of unfulfilled election campaign promises by the Republican President, Rupiah Banda as false.

What challenge has the MMD GRZ challenged? I feel ‘…responded to the challenge of unfulfilled election campaign promises…’ would be better here.

  14. GRZ when are you going to say THANK YOU to president HH who wrote President RB Banda containing ways of improving our limping economy. It is sad to note that the Kwacha currency rate to the US Dollar has now surpassed or is about to where former President Chiluba left it with us in 2011.

Let us learn to say thank you any help that comes our way. After all, the MMD GRZ is the one that requested for help from the opposition with solutions to the Global/National Financial Crises that we are facing as Zambians and Zambia.

  15. “The Opposition Patriotic Front has written to the Speaker of the National Assembly Amusaa Mwanamwambwa, requesting him to declare the parliamentary seats of the 16 defiant Members of Parliament vacant.
The PF argues that the expelled MPs on December 14th 2007 commenced legal proceedings in the Lusaka High Court against the party.
According to the letter sent to Mr. Mwanamwambwa and signed by PF deputy General Secretary, Chileshe Mulenga and obtained by Muvi TV today, the defiant MPs in December 2007 withdrew their membership from the party by stopping their monthly contributions.”

  16. Above continued.
“Dr. Mulenga says following the MPs’ action the PF Central Committee resolved to accept their decision not to continue to be PF members.
He noted that the MPs in question continued to perform their functions under the protection from the court pending the determination of the matter.
Dr. Mulenga however says the high court on Monday 22nd December this year handed down a ruling in which it discharged the interim order of injunction.”
    Since this is a good move by PF, please the UPND write those expelled 16 MPs letter to join the U-Team as soon as possible so that you can campaign with them in the areas they have been MPs.Vote for a sensible group of trustworthy leaders =;

  17. Zambia is not poor but mismanaged and misruled. We need to Organized to bring in Real Leadership from Parliament to Plot 1 in 2011

  18. Gentleman and ladies, fellow country men and women, this is our time and this is our moment. Support the only true leadership for 2011 and that is only the U-Team with a manifesto that late Mwanawasa and alive Magande tried to use in bringing Zambia to some sane level as an economy and Nation.

Since this is our time and moment as Zambians, let us make sure we help in getting the young and energetic president Hakainde Hichilema to become President of our great Nation, Zambia.

    I would have loved to stand as Zambian presidential candidate in 2011, but I have commitments right now. I am considering doing so in 2016. I have already secured some support from non-Zambians of all forms. =;

  19. =;But why do we export maize at the first place. The conman is assuring his family or the nation? Im sure people are dying somewhere, this guy assured his family=))

  20. i wish people like shikapwasha could just keep quiet beause he’s so boring and doesn’t know what’s right and wrong.its him,tentamashimba-another useless minister who will suffer so much as soon as he’s dropped,mulongoti-what waste of space-what kind of ministers are these/give us a break mwebantu, ala the 3 are the waste i can assure you.i hate it when people try to justify lies as well-at times people should learn to say the truth, even though they say the truth hates but at least its the truth.do not take people for grasnted all the time muzailasha one day.

  21. he who laughs last, laughs the loudest-aleni ba tentemashimba,i hope you prepare for when you’re not minister pantu mukachula imwe na mulongoti+ shikapwasha.I can see u in 8-10yrs time really finished. :d/

  22. its always depressing to read about retrogressive issues like baby M’s why this in 2008 where are we going and this’s not an rb creations its been there even kuli ba Levy.alamwandi bulanda pa zed. 🙂

  23. #7 Chinja shina as there’s nothing wise in your contribution. What has force MMD to reduce the prices is the planned PF led demos. Thats why you need a strong opposition.
