Chief Justice evacuated to South Africa for treatment

Chief Justice Enerst Sakala has been evacuated to South Africa after suffering from a heart problem.

Justice Sakala was flown to South Africa last night after a team of doctors in Zambia recommended that he undergoes a detailed investigations for his heart problems since facilities are not available in the country.

Justice Sakala who fell ill on Monday and was admitted at Lusaka Trust Hospital where he was seen by a team of doctors, who included those from University Teaching Hospital (UTH) , and was found to have a heart problem emanating from a long standing problem of high blood pressure.

The Chief Justice is hospitalized at Milpark hospital were he is receiving treatment.

Health Minister Kapembwa Simbao told ZANIS in a press Statement that Justice Sakala’s condition is described as fairly normal as he is able to talk freely and walk by himself .

Mr. Simabo said Justice Sakala is also able to perform his normal chores without any difficulty or assistance.

The Minister said the nation will be updated on his condition from time to time.

    Firstly, all the best to Chief Justice Sakala as this news is not looking ir sounding good. I really wish him a quick recuperation.

    Secondly, why does the Nation need the update on Chief Justice Sakala’s condition? While I appreciate that he is the head of the JUDICIARY wing, are there emmergency matters that he needs to do? Don’t we have a deputy Chief Justice or an acting in such instances?

  9. Yes, this is sad news but we hope he recovers quickly. This brings me to our usual converstaion about govt priorities. After evacuating so many people for specialised treatment, dosn’t the govt realise the need for these facilities at UTH or other Hospitals in Zambia? These guys don’t use their heads properly. We need to push them again just like we are doing for the passports.

Listen to the men who spend time working and thinking positively. I am sure he will advise our non-thinking politicians but would they listen?   50. Surely, for how long shall we keep on evacuating our patients to South Africa? Can’t we build our own facilities through joint effort of government and private sector.

    Genuine cases of ill health, like this case of our Chief Justice Sakala, make very sad reading indeed and I ask all my fellow bloggars on LT to join me in wishing our Chief Justice quick recovery.

    My earnest request to government is to look into establishing a high-powered independent body of entrepreneurs who should look into building a fully equiped specialist self sustaining hospital to save lives in our country. :(:(:(:(:(

  76. Chief Justice Ernest Sakala is a performer and we wish him well. But on the other hand, will the average citizen forever be ignored? How many government officials are we going to evacuate to South Africa for treatment? Why can’t Kapembwa Simbao initiate the ground work for a modernised UTH? Who knows how much medical equipment 5 of these evacuations can buy? Some of these ministers that can’t perform, they are comforted by the fact that tax payers money is a never ending reserve.
    It won’t be long before they start evacuating themselves for circumcision abroad. Soon we’ll be evacuating Rotten Buttocks for emergency liposuction of his behind and who knows who next and for what.

    In all, only MC Sata and President RB Banda conducted themselves in a 100% tribal manner as their statements had to do with a motive getting 100% support from their tribes mates.
    On president HH, I would have written a similar thing to the above two if he issued a statement pleading for 100% support in the Southern Province for some reason about being Tonga which he has never done. On all HH’s campaign messages, he has been quoted as asking people not to vote for any candidate – including himself – on tribal grounds but on ability to perform and policies promised by his political party including life telling testimony like family values.

  254. Even Mr Sata is not without guilt here! He has been part and parcel of the government that messed up the health care system in Zambia. He only reconciled with Mwanawasa when he became a beneficiary of tax payers’ money to evacuate him to RSA, and even then, he was never cared for by the National health service. I pity the doctors and nurses in government health institutions who have to work under such conditions. At the rate we are going Zambia just needs surgeons, nurses and clinical officers. The rest are redundant. We are worse off than in 1964!

  255. We do not need to spend millions of $s on HIV/AIDS prevention campaigns anymore. Spend the money on high tech laboratories for tests and for drugs. Treat every case of HIV with drugs tailored for individuals after resistance testing and we will wipe out the disease in less than 10 years. We need to tackle diabetes, stroke and heart diseases and Road traffic incidents. These things are depriving the nation of the most productive people in the country. Then, children! They are the seed of the nation. Healthy children grow up to be bright adults. Right now their brains are being formed and lacking essential nutrients will affect their mental acpacities later.     You are right. I have often wondered why we Zambians do not raise money for charitable projects! I mean big money. We can raise funds for a funeral here, a small project there but never for something remarkable. There are some hospitals and schools in Zambia that started as charitable institutions. Arthur Davison aka Yengwe built a children’s hospital in Ndola. The churches have built schools and hospitals all over the country and Llewellyn built Kitwe Central Hospital. Post colonial Zambians? Nothing. But then, with all the Xtended family dependants, that is charity enough!
