Government says it attaches great importance to efforts of developing sports in the country.
Sport, Youth and Child Development Minister, Kenneth Chipungu, says government would provide relevant financial support to various sports activities as a measure of contributing to the development of the industry.
Mr Chipungu, however, challenged sporting academies to be transparent in the manner they utilize government grants meant for various sports projects.
He regretted that some sporting academies were in a habit of misappropriating government grants.
Mr Chipungu was speaking when he addressed coaches for various sports activities, from Chawama Youth Sports Academy in Lusaka today.
He called on the private sector to partner with government in the development of sports in the country.
He also advised youths in the country to actively participate in various sports activities as a measure of disengaging themselves in anti social vices.

jokes nevers ends sports when you have failed to educated and feed.

THOSE WORDS HAVE BEEN SAID MILLION TIMES BY YOUR PREDECESSORS AND THEY NO LONGER APPEAL TO ANYONE. IF YOU LOOK AT ZAMBIA’S SPORTING INFRASTRUCTURE, IT COMPLETES THE WHOLE STORY. PLEASE, JUST DON’T BORE US WITH A SPEECH TO FULL FILL YOUR TIMESHEET.
zambia will never develop for there is too much lip service by these polisuckers
what support is this guy talking about, let them build infrastracture and invest in grassroot sports.otherwise we will hear such speeches more than a million times with no tangible results.
children’s football pitches are given away as plots by MMD chairmen, ther’e no recreation facilities for the youth,we don’t have any goverment sports academies, then this asshole minister comes blubbering about goverment’s commitment to improving sports!mushindo! :-l:-l:-l
Help…I am confused which sport, Elite sport/well being?!! With ‘No’ specific sports policies we are doomed…no direction…no vision!!! I do not know why we still have a national sports council that serves no purpose. Nobody knows or understands the funding criteria for sport. We do not even know how much Govt. allocates to sport in the budget yet we want to see results as in winning…!! Mismanagement, lack of transparency/accountability…you having a laugh aren’t you? We have no vision…no idea, we are a joke. Throwing money at mickey mouse projects is the wrong way to go. Implement sustainable initiatives/programmes!! Talk is cheap Minister…Sport policies!!!
Which sports academy does the government support. Am very confused. To all bloggers, thanks for calling this lipservice. We have heard this story before.
Zambia has infatuated itself with the British system of running sport. However, the difference is that British Sport is driven by policies that are evaluated or droped if they do not address specific goes. The ‘Sport for All’ programme Zambia adopted is a failed policy yet Zambia continued with it in the name of sports development…has this programme produced measurable results and if so how much has been spent on such questionable initiatives. Going by this evidence, it clearly highlights the need to do away with the NSCZ and modernise our sports system. It is important to introduce/implement policicies/iniatiatives that work to meet the needs of all Zambians. Continued..
Continued from #9. What needs to be done? Govt./stakeholders need to sit down and identify where we are as a sporting nation. Secondly, there is a need to strategically categorise sport i.e elite/non-elite. Thirdly, introduce a Zambia Institute of Sport that should be responsible for taking care of elite sport – funding, running coaching programmes, monitor sporting progress nation-wide, promote Govt. policies. Because sport epitomises the values of captalism, clubs need to apply for funding by meeting outlined guidelines that should be in the name of developing sport. Such a system would promote transparency and encourage accountability. This system would do away with the NSCZ.
What this minister has said is a direct reflection of how govt in Zambia operates: no strategy, no vision, no mission and above all, put in your pockets as much as you can. Ala! Bakabwalala:-w:-w:-w
It very unfornetely to have such ministers in Gvt. They dont have a direction and vision 4 themselves and Zambia. Shame!!
twapapata we are fed up with those sentiments.sport development when we cant even afford to make prepare recreations in our country.pa zed we will end up talking and no progress.ooh continue saying [-(
We have heard these words several times in the past. As a country which calls it’s self soccer loving doesn’t not have any infrastructure to boast of. History in 1986 we demolished Dag under the guise that we shall put up a modern one in preparation for 1988 Africa Cup. Govt withdraw the did under the excuse of no money and history repeated its self when we said we shall host the 2011 All Africa Games and withdrew saying we can’t afford to host the games.
In Zambia we can talk and talk but no action. 🙁
This is the most Idi*tic statement to come from one minister. We razed down Dag in Ndola till today not re-built, we razed down the grandstand of Indepence stadium, todate not built. We bid to host 1988 Africa Cup of Nations failed to do it in K.K’s regime, we have done it again in 2009 failed to host All Africa Games. atase why are Zed Politicians liers? Why?
Kindly forgive me if am wrong………what development is the govt talking about apart from them getting huge allowances??????
To improve sports in the country you have to reintroduce PE at primary School ok.
#17 The Cuban sports structure is outstanding. Can’t Zambia work in Partnership with the Cuban Government based on the solid relations Zambia has with Cubans? Realistically speaking, Zambia has more resources and opportunities if compared to Cuba (trade sanctions etc.), yet the Cubans are more organised than us. This alone leads me to conclude that Zambia’s problems are purely based on the lack of management/policy, vision hence no direction. Sports Administration in Zambia is for this reason fragmented. The lack of qualified PE teachers – degree level means at grassroot level Zambia sports future doomed!! :-w
I agree with .17. improve sports in schools, play parks in every constituency and appoint coordiators not sports council who just have prolong workshops.. **==
