Treacherous Kitwe-Chingola road claims a life

Share

A 53-year old employee of Nkana Water and Sewerage Company in Kitwe died on the spot on Saturday while a Chinese national had his arm amputated after the two vehicles they were traveling in collided head on along the Kitwe Chingola Road.

Coppperbelt police chief, Antoneil Mtetwa, told ZANIS in a telephone interview in Kitwe today that the accident happened after a Chinese national, only identified as Nick, who was driving a Land Cruiser ACD registration number 3169, hit into a Mazda ABD 3839 which was being driven by the deceased as he was trying to over take another vehicle.

Mr Mtetwa said the accident, which happened around 19:30 hours, also left two other people injured as they also bashed into the two vehicles which had collided.

He said Nick, who is currently admitted to Kitwe Central Hospital, had his arm amputated while another person, identified as Jeff Chetsn Rache, aged 36 years old, is admitted to Nchanga North Hospital in Chingola.

  1. Nine Chale,
You are the minister of Finance, please consult with the minister of Works and supply how much is needed to work on this road.A dual way is long overdue not only on this road but also Lusaka-Kabwe-Ndola road.We cannot continue losing lives just like that.

  3. who can tell me who was over taking while the accident? My English is not good enough to figure it out from the long sentence.

    Pray for the deceased person.

  4. How sad, indeed this road has claimed a lot of lives rarely have i driven through this road without having a sight of an accident.God bless the survivor :)>-

  5. Zambia’s road network should be re-visited if pipo’s live are to be spared.
Iam in America and accidents happen all the time but its rare to hear that some one died cos of the road accident.

  6. I was telling bloggers just yesterday how bad this road is… some of you were busy laughing at me..

I had driven over that road so many times during my recent visit to Zedi..
    Seeing is beleiving

    and Cutey talks sense…..always…. :-??:-??:-??:-??:-??:-??:-??**==>:d<:*

  7. whats wrong with our goverment why cant they do something about this road,do they want one of the goverment officials to die on this raod before they do something. Its time tyo work RB DONT JUST RELAX.

  8. I travel along this road everyday and i come across aleast four accidents in a week.Government knows this road is not safe but they aint doing anything about it , let one of their children die on this road maybe thats when they will wake up

  9. Bane Lumwana Mine has started production & dispatching more than 40 trucks of Concentrates from Lumwana to Chambeshi smelter daily a distance of over 350 km.This will damage the Solwezi – Chingola- Chambeshi Road and cause a lot of accidents more on top of the already too many. when will the politicians learn? They cancelled a rail line project started By Kavindele instead of giving guidelines all because Kavindele challenged Levy same way Magande shanted4challenging NyamaSoya.

  10. We have accidents on this Road every week. Can some rank the road in terms of Accidents and loss of Life. This is probaly on top the all world

  11. If they can`t make a dual carrige way, why not build some speed humps? If it means building a thousand of them on dangerous spots then so be it. As long as they save a life.

Better be late than lose a life.

  12. The same raod has more than 40 Concentrates trucks from Lumwana & more than 40 trucks from KCM Chililabombwe and Chingola to Nkana Smelter. Heavy trucks coming & going to Congo, more than 40 trucks taking spares and good to Lumwana and Kansanshi mine. This gives you the scale of the problem. Add on the smaller vehicles, buses heisshh it’s a death trap for those overspeeding. When Zambia is playing in Chililabombwe, the situation resembles hell on earth. God Help us.

  13. May the deceased soul rest in peace. The dual way into CNC is long over due. How many more have to die for government to react. God help us. Motoristist – please be extra careful. Surely speed kills!!

  14. Now I know that Nicky the Chinese national, this boy speeds when driving like no man’s business and everyone in Kitwe thinks he is on drugs. He is a silly boy very rude and all that.Tho’ too bad he had his arm amputated am sure he has learnt his lesson.

  15. Now please do not blame the road because this road is NOT treacherous. The high incident of accidents in Zambia is simply because of reckless and treacherous drivers! I used to commute on this road every week and I was always appalled at the speeds people were reaching. The national speed limit on these road is 100 km/hr and that is just about 60-65 mph. In Zambia, drivers in good cars drive on average 120 kmh which is more than 70 mph. There are no autobahns in Zambia! Some overtake over continuous white lines. This is clearly a case of dangerous driving!

  16. #24 THE PONTIFF GENERAL & 8 SKYE
Forgive Skye. He may be using a sticky key board. You the type you find in Internet cafes in the back streets? Chewing gum under the tables, static over the CRT screen…
OK, if it was the English here is a paraphrase for Skye:
Nick in Land Cruiser overtaking someone unknown, crashed inrto the dead person’s Mazda which was coming from the other direction. In Police language Nick should be charged with the most serious offence of ‘causing death by dangerous driving,’ which carries a custodial sentence… but in Zambia? Who knows?

  17. When will individuals ever take responsibility for their own lives and safety?
‘Government should do this…’ Government, government all the time. If we want small government and less interference from government then we should learn to be responsible. The questions that will be asked are: 1. Were road signs clear about overtaking? 2. What is the speed limit on this road? 3. Were the ambient conditions (e.g. lighting, rain e.t.c.) hazardous? 4. What is the braking distance at the speed limit? 5. What was the roadworthiness of the vehicles involved? 6. Were the drivers under the influence of intoxicants? DON’T BLAME GOVERNMENT>

  18. What in the world is a chinese doing driving in our streets?
Please revoke lock him up and deport him for careless driving

  19. Or just lock him up for life. He’s killed a productive Zambian who would have made a worthy contribution to the national development

  20. Something bad has happened and its not the last. truly this road is busy, I drove from to chililabombwe to be honest the road from kitwe is narrow, no space for overtaking properly and in case of an oncoming hazard, you have no chance but to cause accident. Our roads are getting congested on daily basis, small cars buses and trucks are increasing daily but nothing seem to be happening. Its like a family of 4 cooking nshima in the same pot even after their family has 3 more people to feed from the same pot. The idea of dual carrigeway is the only solution, look at ndola kittwe, accidents are reduced incredibly. Do something GOVT.

  21. Its unfortunate that our roads are not planned propery.I don’t see any road of being made due carriage. These planners have allowed ZAMTEL to lay their fiber link cables near the roads hence giving no road for the expansion in the country. We will always leave in a stone age errer 8-|8-|

  22. MHSRIP Lets also support and encourage community intiatives to save lives. Locals living along our major highways should be supported with intiatives to help save lives and earn a bit of money rather than wait for GRZ.

Good pipo of LT how you all doing?

I was on a long break and i threw away all my gadgets that speak technology and just enjoyed a quiet farm life with family.
Happy new year and God bless you all

  23. #30,Thank you for making a pharagraph for me.

English is not my first language, I pay attention on this accident becasue I am a Chinese.

  24. Dear Zambian living in America, I too live in America and have to disagree with you about your blog. It’s not just a factor of good roads bad roads it could easily be a factor of both so think about it. The road that runs from KT To Chingola has claimed too many lives I agree but I bet you live in the city so you don’t see how bad the roads are out in the country. I vacation out in the country all the time and the roads there have claimed loads of lives.

  25. I am going to visit Kitwe in June..for the first time in many years. I was born there. A bit scary to hear all this news of the bad roads etc.
To change the subject..anyone know the farm on the opp side of Kafue used to be called Ricoba Farm. Frank Cowan owned it??
